Unable to connect to database; verify that database TCP/IP port service is

Hi i have a problem with a few servers when i'm trying to upgrade from SAP 2007 SP00 PL47 to SAP 2007 SP1 PL06, i run the upgrade for SBO-COMMON and gives me the message Unable to connect to database; verify that database TCP/IP port service is  started, and i don't know why, i hope you can help me.
Julieta

Hi,
Ensure that the connection to the database is configured properly.
   1. Check that the TCP/IP port is not being blocked by a Firewall.
   2. Set the Server's Remote Connection to accept TCP/IP connections.
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -> Configuration Tools -> SQL Server Surface Area Configuration -> Server Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections -> MSSQLSERVER -> Database Engine -> Remote Connections
Restart the 'SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)', and run the upgrade again.
Hope this will resolve your issue !

    Hi All,
During the installation of SERVER (2007 B), the next installation wizard is "Integration Platform". It requires the conncetion with SBO-COMMON. But this is giving me the Error Message - "Unable to connect to Database, Verify that database TCP/IP service is started. What is this means ? I have checked TCP/IP is enabled on my system.

    Anuj,
You need to verify that you have TCP/IP in the SQL Server Client settings set to "enabled".

     Some questions:
Are there any other databases running on this Std Edition SQL service?
[a] Yes there are, we have Kaspersky enterprise DB, Report Server DB and local application DB.
Are there any other services running on this WSUS Server?
[b] Yes there are, we have Active Directory, Kaspersky enterprise, SQL Server 2005, and WSUS all on the same server.
How many days since your WSUS server was first installed?
    [c] It's been about a year now.
What is the physical size of the SUSDB.mdf file?
    [d] 9,666,752 KB
What is the hardware configuration of this machine, including disk drives?
    [e] Intel Xeon 1.86, 2GB Ram, HD C: 39GB - E: 25.2, running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2.
How many client systems are you servicing from this WSUS Server?
    [f] Around 40.
    What products/classifications are you synchronizing.
    [g] Windows XP-vista, Windows Server 2003, Office 2003-2007, SQL Server 2005.
Okay, for starters, you have an underpowered/overextended machine running Active Directory, ASP.NET, and a database server, all on a sub 2GHz CPU with 2GB RAM, and not enough disk spindles. The machine has had WSUS running for about a year and is 9GB in size.
There's no doubt in my mind that some of your performance issues are directly related to disk and database fragmentation.
There's also no doubt that some of your performance issues are directly related to memory starvation.
I'd suggest the following long-term fixes:
    1. Get a second machine. Make it a dedicated database server. Provision it accordingly to support servicing multiple database applications.
    2. Lacking #1, this machine needs more memory. It also needs more disk spindles. At a minimum the databases being serviced should be on a dedicated physical drive; ideally there would be two dedicated drives allocated for supporting database services. The
For the short-term fixes, do this:
    1. During after-hours time, if you don't already have one, build a temporary machine that can act as a DC/GC, while you take this machine temporarily offline.
    1. Shutdown the Update Services service, SQL Server database engine, and any other services dependent on the SQL Server database engine (Kapersky, and other reporting applications). Disconnect from the network to temporarly eliminate DC traffic. (You could also shutdown the AD services, but disconnecting the network cable is ever-so-much easier.) Defragment ALL drives.
    2. Restart ONLY the SQL Server service. Obtain this SQL script to Reindex the WSUS Databases.
    3. Restart ONLY the Update Services service. Attempt the Server Cleanup Wizard again. Run it in two passes. Pass 1 performing everything except  remove unused updates. Pass 2 running only remove unused updates.
    4. After completion of the Server Cleanup Wizard, reconnect the machine to the network and resume all other services.
    5. If you're able to complete #3, secure the services of a well-qualified DBA to determine if there are any misconfigurations in your SQL Server setup that would account for why your WSUS database is 9GB in size -- such as improperly configured autogrowth parameters. Based on the products you're updating and only forty clients, 9GB is about 3x the maximum size I would expect to see in a WSUS database. It's possible this is simply caused by excess unused updates, it's possible it's caused by fragmentation, it's probable it was caused by unnecessary autogrowth of the database due to insufficient update maintenance. You'll want a DBA to assist you in shrinking that database after you successfully run the Database Maintenance and Server Cleanup Wizard.

  • Sharepoint Integrated SQL Reporting - Unable to connect to the server that is specified......

This is driving me crazy.  I have Reporting services implemented on several sites in Sharepoint.  For some reason just one site refuses to work.  I see all the features are there.  I can create data sources.
When I try to create a report I get :
"Unable to connect to the server that is specified in the URL,
http://help.site.  Make sure that the server is running, the URL is correct, and you have permission to use the server"
I'm using my domain admin account, I know know this works on every other site.  I know I haven't forgotten the general setup of the service.
The only difference is this site allows "anonymous" connections.  Has anyone heard of an issue about using anon and reporting services?  Either way I authenticate before I login but that doesn't have an effect.

  • Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters [Database Vendor Code: 1005]

We have a report that has been in production for some time and ran successfully with no trouble.  However, it now keeps failing with this error and the log on parameters are correct.  The whole error is:
    Error in
File / usr/local/bobje/data/procSched/mrspas051.reportjobserver/~ tmp2f0ea56e4c88a08d6.rpt: Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters, Details: [Database Vendor Code: 1005].
Can you tell us why a report suddenly fails with this error?  Thank you.

We've been having the same issue with scheduled Crystal reports (in BO 3.1).  After much testing, we found that even though reports are set to use the custom database logon credentials, if the name of the original data source changes, it causes the error (Error in File ~tmp1d06ed702daa30.rpt: Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 1005 ] ).  For example, I publish a report to a production environment.  It has an original data source called "test".  I set it to use the custom database logon.  A user then creates a recurring schedule and it runs successfully.  A developer opens the report in Crystal 2008 and changes the connection to something else, for ex "dev" (in Crystal, this is on the Database menu, select "Set Datasource Location" and pick a different option under My Connections or create a new one), then saves the report to BO.  We promote the report to prod and it overwrites the existing file.  We make sure it's still set to use the custom database connection to prod but the recurring schedules that were set up when the original data source was called "test" immediately begin to fail.  I tried working with support but they didn't really help much.  They had me install the Oracle 11G client on our servers since we were connecting to our 11G repository with the 10G client but that did nothing.  They finally claimed that since our repository database was Oracle 11G R2 (not just 11G), it wasn't supported and they wouldn't go any further.  If anyone's found a solution, I would really appreciate hearing how it was fixed.

  • Yoga 13 - unable to connect to work wifi that requires web authentication

I am unable to connect to my work wifi network.  It is an open network that you connect to but then there should be a website that it redirects you to so that you can login.  Sometimes the website comes up, but most of the time it just says limited connectivity and no sites will load.  Has anyone else run into this issue?  My IT group won't help me cause they just say that they won't support Windows 8.  I would hate to have to return the laptop because of this issue.

Connect from desktop mode and not the start screen, this will bring up the desktop version of IE and not the modern screen version. This usually works for me.

    Thanks for a feedback

    Hi Don
This advice helped me a lot! Thank you for your help!
The CR2008 connection to CCX Database could be done successfull.
It might be a helpfull info for others with a similar problem:
Creating a DSN according "Cisco Unified Contact Center Express Historical Reporting Administrator and Devolper Guide 7.0(1)"
(Wich is based on Crystal Report XI).
    With the following exeption:
In Step Creating Custom Reports , Befor you Begin, copy files from Cisco CCX Historical Reports folder on Cisco CCX HR client system to C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Crystal Reports 11 folder has to change to:
copy files from Cisco CCX Historical Reports folder on Cisco CCX HR client system to C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86.
The file crw32.exe resides in this folder and not in the folder explained in the Cisco Guide.
Therefore the shorcut to crw32.exe properties, explained in the Cisco guide, has to be as follows:
    "C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\launchHRC.exe" crw32.exe
(Quotation marks included, blank between launchHRC.exe" and crw32.exe.
With this shortcut CR 2008 will start together with Cisco Historical Report Appl. on CCX server.
Starting only 2008 will result in the following error message:
    Login failed.

As explained in the Cisco Guide after creating a DNS the test will fail by clicking Test Data Source.

    2) Make sure, you have ojdbc14.jar and nls_charset12.zip in your >CLATHPASS, I have it both for user and system varables, to be on the >safe side).
I don't think you need classes12.zip in the CLASSPATH.
Just fyi: for JDK 1.2.x 1.3.x, you need to have classes12.zip and >nls_charset12.zip in the CLASSPATH to work, but I didn't try it since >I have 1.4venyP, I am not questioning your post because I am still pretty new to Java (I started writing Java since February). However, I don't have any of those jar file or zip file in my CLASSPATH, and I am using JDK 1.3.1.
I am using 1.3.1 because back in February when I visited the Sun site, their J2EE 1.4 was still in beta, therefore, I downloaded the 1.3.1 of both J2EE and J2SE.
Like the original poster, I am also using Oracle 9.2 and JBuilder 8. And I never ever have to do any tweaking to my CLASSPATH. Everything works beautifully. I can compile and run any Java program from JBuilder, from Eclipse, and from the command prompt. No problem whatsoever.
That's why I don't understand why everybody is talking about all these modification to the CLASSPATH.
    Just wondering. Thanks.

  • Hyper-V - "Verify that the Virtual Machine Management service on the computer is running."

i can give the details  but as a reply by Brandon RecordsModerator already applies the short details are: that the entry for Hyper-V in windfows features doesn't allow "Hyper-V Platform" to be ticked and is greyed out.
also can hyperv be run from powershell to give a different result?(module for Powershell is available and is ticked)_
Problem solved Bradon had it right but i didn't realize the sequence to be followed mattered and when i turned virtualization technology on and booted HyperV platform was available

That could mean a couple things.  First you need Windows 8.x Pro (or Ent),
    not just Windows 8.x.
The second is that your hardware does not have the required features,
(VT-x) and/or SLAT, or that they are not enabled in your BIOS.  You should
contact the PC's manufacturer on that.
There's no way to bypass the checks for hardware or OS from powershell.

  • SQLServer 2008 Unable to connect to databse;

    Hi experts,
I have been installed MSSQL 2008 and half to install SAPB1 2007 PL49, but when i install common upgrade->Integration component, it show an error " Unable to connect to databse; verify that database TCP/IP port service is started."
But i have set the port to "1433". Most important, didn't  have choice for me to MS SQLServer2008 only show the MS SQLServer2000 and MS SQLServer2005.
Can i skip the install or upgrade the integration Component?
    thankls.

    Hi Laurenz,
Sorry to say...but it still does not connect(incorporated your suggestions), nor is the trace generated. sqlnet.log looks no different. As about any other oracle clients...I did not have any until yesterday evening when we installed the entire 10g oracle...client and database.
Anyways now too after having installed oracle 10g on D drive, no succes in connecting to remote databse.
    Two questions:
    1. Is XE client compatible with 10g database? As I am trying to connect to 9.2 version as mentioned in my initial query.
    2. When I ping the host I do get reply. BUT when I telnet i.e.
    telnet host port
....it says "could not open connection to the host, on port XXX: connect failed"
Does it mean there is a firewall at the remote end which is preventing the successfull connection? But then how do I connect thru' Perl with no extra info...
Any other suggestion please let me know...and also do you suggest I uninstall all oracle clients other than XE...or is there any way out ...having multiple clients?
Another query...hope I can use toad after having set up the XE client?
    Thanks in advance...

  • Upgrade SBO-COMMOM SQL -  unable to connect to database

    Dear Experts,
    I'm trying to upgarde from SAP 2007 A PL-42  to  PL-49.
I have currently got SQL2000 (for legend system) running under the instance name SERVER and i have installed SQL2005 (SAP uses this) with the instance name SERVER\SQL2005, both running on the same machine called SERVER.
When i try to upgrade the SBO-COMMON database, it installs the DI and reaches a point where it asks for:-
    Database Server:-              (I input SERVER\SQL2005)
    Database Name:-              (SBO-COMMON)
    User Name:-                     (sa)
    Password:-                      (password)
When i click the NEXT button, i get the error "unable to connect to database; verify that database TCP/IP port serice is started."
I have verified that the TCP/IP ie enabled, and running on port 1433.
    Addidtional Information:
During installation, it tries to access c:\windows\system32\sqljdbc_auth.dll file, when i click the NEXT button, just before i get the TCP/IP error.
    Would highly appreciate the help.
