Unable to connect to home network (WPA2-PSK, works on Windows)

Hello!
I am having problems with connecting to my home network (on a FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7360 SL) which uses WPA2-PSK encryption.
Windows works normally so I don't think that it is a router issue.
In addition, I managed to connect to my Universities WPA2 network and another unsecured network without problems.
I tried netcfg+wpa_supplicant, wpa_supplicant on its own and wicd (on a sidenote, wicd didn't even manage to connect to the router when using a cable). None worked.
This is the wpa_supplicant conf file that I am using:
## wpa_aachen.conf
ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=wheel
ap_scan=1
fast_reauth=1
network={
ssid="myssid"
psk=hexcode
proto=WPA RSN
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
pairwise=CCMP TKIP
I am getting an "authentication timeout" error everytime I try. Yes, I double and triple checked the passphrase. I also tried it via hexcode and plaintext passphrase.
Does anybody have any suggestions?

Ive been trying the same thing for several hours googling it etc. wicd doesnt work always ends up with bad password error no matter what..
so.. this worked for me:
get into term as root and type:
NetworkManager start
then it will pop up in the notification area click network settings / wireless /connect to hidden network and type name, pass and it connect just fine..
really simple and it works

  • WiFi -  unable to connect to home network

    I had a problem syncing and iTunes not recognizing my iPod touch, (and my new iPad). Did a restore on the iPod Touch and that solved the syncing problem, now I cannot connect to the WiFi in my home, (cannot connect with my new iPad either). I have a Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router Model WRT160N. I am dying to connect the new iPad and get it up and running, etc. Can anyone help me solve the "Unable to connect to (my home network's name)".

    Use G band, not N. I encountered a lot of problems with my new router on wireless N. Here is a reply I wrote for the other posts about iPad connectivity problems:
    I have the base iPad 16gb Wi-Fi model and it was connecting to wifi fine. A few days ago I had to get a new modem/router. I bought a netgear dual band model (G and N) and used wireless "N" on my my two MacBooks and my iPad.
    Two days ago I started getting the "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding." error on the iPad along with the schizophrenic signal strength bars going from three, to one, to two, to disappearing totally, to whatever, and Safari not opening pages and sometimes crashing, and when it would connect running slower than molasses.
    My laptops worked fine, seeing both G and N and working equally well regardless of which I chose.
    I did all the jumping thru hoops I have read on this and various forums and that Apple suggested back in April with naming each band on the router differently but with same security settings, renewing lease on Safari, reseting iPad, resetting network settings, turning auto connect off, etc., etc., etc, none of it worked.
    So I started to wonder . . . does the iPad even work with "N" . . . the Apple site says "yes", but I wondered . . . what happens if I have the iPad ignore "N" and connect only with "G".
    Guess what . . . that fixed the problem.
    I went into Settings > WiFi > and told it to "Forget this Network" for the "N" band and then selected the "G" band.
    Problems gone.
    If you're experiencing the connection problems I'd bet dollars to doughnuts you're trying to use wireless "N". Have it ignore that band and use "G".

  • Unable to connect to home network on my iPad 2.

    It's been working fine, until this morning. I reset the router (linksys), turned off MAC filtering. Wi-fi settings show "home", but Safari says not connected.

    From manual:
    Network
    Use Network settings to configure a VPN (virtual private network) connection, or
    access Wi-Fi settings.
    Add a new VPN configuration:  Choose General > Network > VPN > Add VPN
    Configuration.
    VPNs used within organizations allow you to communicate private information
    securely over a non-private network. You may need to configure VPN, for example, to
    access your work email on iPod touch.
    iPod touch can connect to VPNs that use the L2TP, PPTP, or Cisco IPSec protocols.
    Ask your network administrator which settings to use. In most cases, if you’ve set up
    VPN on your computer, you can use the same VPN settings for iPod touch.
    Once you enter VPN settings, a VPN switch appears in the Settings menu that you can
    use to turn VPN on or off.
    VPN may also be automatically set up by a configuration profile. See “Connecting to
    the Internet” on page 19.
    Change a VPN configuration:  Choose General > Network > VPN and tap the
    configuration you want to update.
    Turn VPN on or off:  Choose VPN, then tap to turn VPN on or off.
    Delete a VPN configuration:  Choose General > Network > VPN, tap the blue
    arrow next to the configuration name, then tap Delete VPN at the bottom of the
    configuration screen.

  • Unable to connect to home network.

    Ever since I upgraded to Leopard, connecting to my network is complicated task. I am able to go on the internet, but it seems the workgroup on my Macbook is incorrect from my Windows workgroup. How can I enter the proper workgroup on my Macbook, I've tried everything. Sorry if this question has been asked numerous times.
    Thanks in advance...

    I've had my MB for nearly 8 months now and have never been able to network with the other 2 Windows computers in my home. I've tried everything I could think of including proper workgroup names. I think it just some security protection that is preventing the MB from interfacing with my home network.
    For the most part, I've given up and since my MB IS able to share the router and access the internet, I don't much care anymore.

  • Suddenly unable to connect to home network

    My new Macbook 2.0Ghz recognised our home wireless network within seconds of being set up, and has worked fine for 2 days. But today it is no longer connecting.
    The network appears under the airport icon in the menu bar, but when I click on it an alert box comes up after about 20 seconds saying ‘There was an error joining the airport network Netgear.’
    According to Network Diagnostics, all the network systems have failed. The Network icon in the Finder side bar no longer shows a server, and the System Profiler says ‘Wireless network not available’.
    We have 2 other Macs in the house, and they are both working fine. Any ideas about what’s suddenly gone wrong with my new Macbook, and how to fix it?
    Many thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    I don't want to start fiddling around with the hardware on my new machine, Rick, but I've tried a few other things.
    I changed the channel on my router from 11 to 3 this morning, and it appeared to work - suddenly I could connect straight away, even with all the other computers using the internet. However, when I started my macbook up later on, it did not connect.
    It does seem that if I reboot the router and go online first (ie. with the other computers switched off), I can connect. But obviously that's not a proper fix!
    I've also downloaded iStumbler on all the computers, and it shows 0% noise for the connection on the others, but 9% on my macbook. I don't know if this is perhaps affecting my connection?
    I've also tried resetting the network settings (by removing the SystemConfiguration folder) and manually configuring my connection, but with no success.
    Has any one got any ideas?

  • Officejet Pro L7580 connected to home network won't work after working for several years

    My Officejet Pro L7580 would not scan today.  This happens all the time, but today rebooting, uninstalling, and reinstalling did not work.  I finally got it to work by disconnecting it from my local network and using the usb cable.  I am running windows 7 (64bit).  When i ran the scan diagnostic program, it could not connect to my computer, but the home network diagnostic says everything is ok.  The message I get when i try to scan a document is this: "The scan cannot be performed because another program or computer is using the networked HP imaging device. Try again later."

    Hi Anti-Phish,
    Thank you for your reply, and you as well Captain.  I did very carefully follow the process outlined in that post and I've actually gone through it several times to make sure I didn't goof up or miss a step - but no luck.
    Everytime I connect the coax on the secondary router, the primary router DHCP connection to verizon disconnects and never re-establishes itself.  Although, everything else on the internal network side seems to be working like a champ!
    I'm beginning to wonder if the intructions are applicable to the software on my router.  The procedure refers to a connection labeled "Broadband Coax" but my software refers to it as "Broadband Connection (Ethernet/Coax)".  Eitherway, I still disabled it and the PPPoE connection.
    If you've got some ideas and want to be a second set of eyes, I would be happy to share some screen shots of my primary and secondary routers.
    Here is the screenshot of my primary router "Network Connections" screen - the secondary router looks identical - in terms of the labels it uses, but keep in mind that after I complete the process on it - the status for the Broadband entry and the PPPoE entry read "Disabled".

  • Unable to connect to home network using a Linksys WRT110 router

    I recently had to upgrade from a Linksys G router to a new router--the Linksys WRT110.  I was able to connect to the WiFi using my Palm TX prior to doing a firmware update to the Linksys WRT110.  Now, my Palm TX doesn't even recognize that there is a network.  I put the network name in manually and it still won't connect.  I don't know what else to do!  Incidentally, my home computer and my laptop connect to the router wirelessly just fine.  I appreciate any help that i can get to enable me to use my WiFi on my Palm TX at home.
    Thanks.

  • Intel Macs: Unable to Connect to Internet on OS X; Works on Windows XP

    Shortly after updating my systems to OS X 10.4.8, both my computers (iMac 20" Intel Core Duo & 1.83 MacBook) failed to connect to the internet when booting to OS X. I see my wireless network, and I can connect to it, but I cannot access the Internet.
    Conversely, switching to Windows XP on both CPU's allows me to connect the Internet. Are there any settings I need to check or change that allow me access to the Internet? I tried resetting my router (Netgear MR814), turning my Airport Card on and off, and repairing permissions on both computers to no avail. Again, it had worked before, and connected to the Internet stopped on OS X only. Has anyone experienced this problem or have any suggested solutions?

    In Network, check if Proxies got set, or unset if you need them. Also check the DNS settings. If you're using Static IPs the Windows® one might have taken it up.

  • Why can I connect to my home network with my iPhone 5 in one room, but when I move to another it is 'unable to connect to the network'

    At home, I can connect my iPhone 5 to my home wifi network with no problems, as long as I stay downstairs.
    As soon as I go upstairs my phone disconnects from the network. I can still see the home network it in the available network lists (with full signal strength), but when I try to reconnect I get an 'unable to connect to the network message'
    If I move back downstairs it reconnects
    This has only started happening in the past week or so
    I've tried to forget and rejoin the network, but this doesn't work
    I reset my network settings on the phone. This worked for a couple of hours and I could connect to the wifi upstairs, but now it won't connect again.
    Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this?

    Sounds like your wi-fi signal strength has degraded.  Try rebooting your wi-fi router, or get it serviced.
    Do you have similar issues with any other wi-fi routers?

    Same To me. I have Asus WL-500W router at home, WPA2-PSK(AES), password similar to this "lIGf@91pY0TnFY!Jh@7LjTUlsL3ZPY", MAC address filtering. My old Nokia E51 works, my Touch Pro Works with it. When i try my one day old Nokia E72 it does not work, the same like others:WLAN: Unable to connect. Wlan Network not Found. E72 works at my work wifi, which has the same settings but without mac filtering. Have no idea what is happening, all is setting correctly. MAC address of E72 is allowed on router. It has the same settings like E51, but E51 works like a charm E72 does not work. What is wrong?
    As already suggested, you could try disabling the MAC filtering from the router, just to outrule possibility of a typo while entering E72's MAC address to router settings.
    Have you tried swithing a WLAN channel that your router uses?
    Log in to your router's web management pages (check router's default IP address and username/password from it's manual) and switch of the "Automatic" channel selection mode. Try few different channels, like 1, 3, 6, 9, 11, if one of the channels happens to work any better. Note that in case you have set your router to use channels 12 or 13 (or in case "Automatic" channel selection mode has decided to select channel 12 or 13) you must have a SIM card inserted and some other than "Offline" profile enabled on your phone since Offline mode (i.e. airplane / flight mode) won't allow your phone to operate on higher channels than 11.
    In case you have configured your WLAN network (SSID) to be "hidden", try disabling hidden SSID mode on the router.
    Asus WL-500W router seems to be a pre-standard 802.11n device so might be worth looking in to your router's WLAN settings and see if playing around with router's WLAN operating mode and settings improve the situation. First of all ensure that your router is not set to operate in 20/40MHz mode (set it to 20MHz only) assuming that the router is in default 802.11b/g/n mode. You could also try disabling the 802.11n mode completely by selecting a 802.11b/g mode (if available).
    You should probably also check that you're running latest (2.0.0.6 ??) firmware version on your Asus WL-500W router since there seems to plenty of complaints regarding WLAN connectivity and stability issues (in general, not specific to Nokia handsets) with this particular router model.

    It's important that you have a steady WiFi connection, ZealousEdge. What phone do you have? Is your phone unable to connect to any WiFi network? If you can, please try deleting the saved WiFi network and re-adding it.

    I updated yesterday to ios 5.1 and now I am unable to join my home network. I have reset network connections, restarted, entered correct name and passwords and get the message "unable to join ____".  i didn't have this problem until the update. Any other suggestions?

    Try power-cycling your wireless router (unplg for 30 seconds, plug back in).  Here's a longer list of troubleshooting steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398.

  • TS1398 I work at a hospital that has free wifi. My ipad mini connected just fine when I first bought it but now it displays unable to connect? What changed? Please help! My mini still connects at home, just not at work.

    My Ipad Mini will no longer connect to the wifi at work. It did when I first got it but now it just displays unable to connect. What gives? I work at a hospital and the wifi is not password protected and my mini connects fine at home. Please help!

    Some of these won't apply to your situation.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • IPhone WiFi will not connect to home network.

    iPhone will not connect to home network.  WiFi is on and correct password is entered.  iPhone error msg says incorrect password.  Reloaded network software and did not activate password but iPhone still shows network as locked.

    Some people who experience issues connecting to or even seeing there Wireless network should follow these steps.
    These steps are just a guideline and its not 100% that it will fix your issue.
    Mainly, if the issue persists, its possible there is an issue with your iOS settings or a hardware failure within your iPhone or iPad, specifically the Wifi adapter.
    You would want to follow these articles to do a reset & restore prior to saying it is a hardware issue.
    #1: Reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    #2: Restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    You will need to access your Admin control panel for your router.
    If you have an Airport Extreme BaseStation, you just need to open the Airport Admin Utility found in Applications > Utilities Folder.
    Enter your credentials and you will have access to the settings from there.
    For a PC: Do NOT use the CD that came with your router. That is used for people who do not know how to setup a router properly and these settings will not be available for you in most cases.
    If you are using anything other than an Airport BaseStation:
    Open a web browser:
    In the address bar, type:
    192.168.1.1 (Mainly used for Asus, Linksys, etc) or 192.168.0.1 (D-link,Belkin)
    How to figure out what the IP address is to type in?
    Windows:
    Hold down the windows key, then press R. This brings up the run box. In that box type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press enter. In the black box that pops up, type "ipconfig" (without quotes) then hit enter. Your default gateway is the IP address for your router. It will start with 192.168.....
    Take that number and put it into the address bar in your browser and hit enter. It will then ask you for a user name and password. For linksys, it's admin for both. If you have another brand, just google "default password for ******" replacing the asterisks with the brand name of the router. Once you have entered the correct user name and password, you're there.
    Mac:
    1.From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
    2.In System Preferences, from the View menu, select Network.
    3.Select the appropriate port. For example, choose Ethernet for broadbandconnections, AirPort for wireless, or Internal Modem for dial-up.
    4.Click Advanced... , and in the sheet that opens, click the TCP/IP tab.
    The number next to "Router:" is your default gateway.
    Once you get into your admin panel do these setting changes.
    1.On the router change the channel for the 2.4mhz band to channel 1, 6, or 11 (recommended), rather than auto.
    2.Also set that channel width to 20hz only, rather than 20hz or 40hz (Auto)
    3.Make sure Security is set to WPA/WPA2-Personal. Anything else will cause issues. (of course, make sure you know your password for security)
    4.Make sure to Apply/Save these settings. Sometimes the wireless connectivity will go out during this change and will come back on within 15-30 seconds.
    5.On the iPhone/iPad go to Settings > Wi fi > click the blue arrow beside the network > Select Forget network
    6.Go to Settings > general > reset > reset network settings
    7.Power the phone off and on. Connect again
