  • Problem connecting to internet with WRT54GL wireless router.

Hey fellas. I currently have a cable modem and a Linksys WRT54GL router with DD-WRT flashed connected to two computers. My desktop is wired to it, and I have a Windows XP and Mac OS X partition on my Macbook Pro, which uses the wireless connection. My PC is working fine, and the OS X partition on my Macbook Pro is running fine, but the XP partition is not doing too hot. Thing is, I have a connection to the router with an excellent signal strength, but Im getting BARELY any packets sent/received, if any. My settings are set to be assigned from the DHCP, but I can't seem to ping the assigned IP. I type ipconfig /all and everything seems to be in order - nothing abnormal to speak of, but I'm getting nothing For the record, I'm using WPA2 security. I'd really appreciate any help you guys can offer. I'm pretty tech-savvy so don't be afraid to use some more technical terms with me. Thanks in advance!

I think I should add that the windows partition does not seem to work when connecting to any other network, as well.

  • Having trouble accessing internet with new wireless WRT54...

Having trouble accessing internet with new wireless WRT54G. Used easylink to read existing router BEFSR41 which works great to westell modem provided by Verizon. When connect new router Easylink configures WRT54G but when trying to connect to internet...fails. All lites indicate good. Not using wireless device yet, just the wired ethernet. Router set up as DHCP.
I keep going back to old router and works great every time. Help!

Thanks for response, however I tried setting unit to 192.168.2.1 (leaving DHCP) to no avail. I put my old unit (BEFSR41) back in and I'm back up. I need to sit back and decide which way to go on this. Perhaps it's defective and I should return it.

You can just unplug the express and use the Uverse wireless or ethernet directly to it.

  • I can't get a signal through whole house because of a brick wall   What range extender do you recommend to be used with my wireless router ( apple brand)

I can't get a signal through whole house because of a brick wall   What range extender do you recommend to be used with my wireless router ( apple brand)

Very few 3rd party wireless extenders will work with an Apple router, so your best bet is always to use an extender that is the same brand as the main router. An AirPort Express is a popular choice for this type of application with another Apple router.
If you had a Cisco router, then a Cisco extender would be your best bet.  Same for Netgear, etc.
But......a wireless extender can only "extend" the quality of wireless signal that it receives, and not much of a wireless signal is going to make it through a brick wall, so whether any extender might do what you want is open to question.
You won't know whether an extender using wireless to connect will work to your satisfaction in your home until you actually try it out in your home.
The performance will always be much better if you can connect the extending device back to the main router using a wired Ethernet cable connection.
If it is not possible to run the Ethernet cable, a pair of Ethernet power line adapters might be able to send the signal over the existing AC power lines in your home. The theory with these devices is that you already have the wiring in place, you just need the adapters.
In practice though, things do not always work as well as the theory might suggest, so if you decide to try a pair of adapters, it might be a good idea to understand the store's return policies before you buy.

  • Can't connect to internet with new wireless n "Extreme" modem

I've had a D-Link DI-604 router for about 4 years-- and wanted to go wireless with an Apple Extreme but first have borrowed my neighbor's D-Link DIR-635 to just see if this will work in my brick house etc. (3 stories, lots of cement and brick...)
Well I get as far as the 192.168.0.1 and then "clone" my MAC address (nothing to do with a Macintosh that...). Note: I was using the same computer to connect to the internet as I previously had used with the D-Link DI-604.
I also give a manual (easy-to-remember) 5-letter password to my wireless connection--
But although this "reboots" the modem, it does NOT let me connect to the internet...
So I'm back to my D-Link 604 cable (wired) only...
One thing the set-up asked for is my HOST name. The only thing I see in the Network System Preferences is an ethernet number: 00:16:cb:cd:6c:3e but I don't find a "HOST" name-- and is that really needed? (In Belgium I'm using an ISP provider "VOO")
Any comments really appreciated-- I could actually see a fairly strong signal from the wireless router (I named it "SteveHermee" and I could see strong bands even from the top floor, with router in the basement...)-- but I could never connect to the internet via CABLE (wired) or wireless.
    Thanks,
    Steve

I got other info from others and D-Link directly.

  • Unable to connect to internet with my WRT54G router

I had no problem until a few days ago.  I have it under a secured mode and wanted to unsecure it temporarily.  I got into the 192.168.2.1  and clicked the security tab and got a clock that never seemed to come back to i closed the window.  I went back into internet explorer and could not get into the internet.  I get a popup in lower right saying  Local Area connection.  This connection has limited or no connectivty.  You might not be able to access the internet or some resources.  For more information click this message.
    Then I get
Windows could not finis repra the problem because the following actin can not be completed.  Renewing your IP address.
I do a setup and get a message
Unable to connect to the router
I try pinging the 192.168.1.1  and it times out.
    I do a diagostic and
HTTP Error 12007  connecting to www.microsoft.,com  shows up many times.
I have an Actiontec 701 DSL modem.  I can get into the internet using that only.
I've tried resetting the router, I've done   what appears to be a firmware upgrade (lights blink etc),  I've tried different power up sequences,  I've tried re-booting.
    What more can I try?

As of now you are not able to login to your router setup page, and you are getting an error message "Limited or no Connectivity". First you can try is Unplug the Power from your router, wait for 1 min and reconnect the power to your router and check if you connected to the router or still you are getting the same error message.
If still the same problem persist then Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Need Help setting up 2 wireless internet computers with 54g wireless router

I setup the 54g wireless router using the setup disk.  It appears to have worked find and the first laptop has wireless internet.  I am not familiar with setting up a totally wireless network so I am not sure if I did the rest right.  I then setup the 54g wireless internet router on the 2nd computer.  It appears to have loaded but will not connect to the internet.  I looked at the linksys setup etc... for both computers and all is the same including the WPA key, IP address, and the rest.  No differences noted.  I have no idea why the 2nd computer does not have wireless internet access.  It has wired access only.  The 2nd computer shows the wireless network but won't connect to it.  I click on it and hit refresh and nothing happens.  I am at a loss as to what to do now.
With 2 wireless computers, must there be a main computer and a secondary computer?  The 1st computer also doesn't have access to windows network setup for some reason.  It tells me to go to the knowledge base at microsoft.com and look up 871122.  No idea why the windows network setup is not working.  It did work before I got a new cable service provider and modem.  However, the windows network setup is working on the 2nd computer. Any help is appreciated.

does the 2nd computer even need the router info loaded into it like the 1st computer or should it be enough that the wireless network was created on the 1st computer?  In other words, would having the router info loaded in both computers cause the 2nd one to not connect?  I have spent hours on this and I am very confused now.
My router connects fine to the cable modem.  the 1st computer connects fine to the router and gets the wireless internet without a problem.  Again, the 2nd computer shows the network name but won't connect to it.  help please!!

  • Problems with internet box, not wireless router

I recently got another internet box hoping my problem with disconnections would be solved but sadly it hasn't... This is the second internet box I have gotten from Verizon and it wasn't any better.  The first one kept disconnecting me from the internet and I called tech support and they couldn't help me so they just ended up sending me a new box.  I thought it might be the wireless router but that didn't solve the problem either.  Is there any way to get a newer better box because it seems like the generic box that Verizon sends doesn't last very long and recently I've been disconnecting from the internet anywhere from 2-3 times a day.  Being a college student with all my homework online and a sister and brother also in college makes it really difficult when I can't rely on staying connected. If anyone can help with this I would be very happy.

#1 Is this on Verizon DSL OR on Verizon FIOS?
#2 What is the brand and model of this Internet box?

  • AirPort Express connected to a Windows LAN already with a wireless router

My apologies if this is out there, I can't seem to find this answer....
I have a curent LAN with several Windows based PCs. There is a wireless router that is used by the Windows laptops.
My iPad works ok (not great) on this network but I am looking at putting in an AirPort in the main room in my house where the iPad is used. My hope is that this will improve performance.
    two questions:
    1) will this make a difference in wireless connectivity (speed/performance )?
    2) can this model work- Airport in a current wireless environment.

Wireless bandwidth and speed fall off as the distance increases between the source producing the wireless network and the device receiving it. Any obstructions in the signal path will slow the wireless much more than distance alone.
You haven't told us anything about the construction type of your home or the number of obstructions like walls or ceilings in the signal path. If you have a line-of-sight relationship between the main router and your iPads, then you will likely see little difference in performance compared to having a device producing a wireless network in the same room as the iPads.
If you consider that a "typical" wall of sheetrock and 2x4 construction in a home will on average, absorb about 15-20% of the signal...and you have 3-4 walls in the signal path, or a ceiling (which is thicker than a wall) and few walls, I think you already have your answer about whether it would be wise to locate the AirPort Express in the same room or close to the area where the iPads will normally be used.

  • P1102w 'unable to communicate with any wireless router or access point using the provided SSID

For more than a 1 1/2 years I have been able to print wirelessly.  Prior to getting all set up, I was getting this message and had difficulty with the setup.  At that time I was under warrantly, I was able to get help from HP.  However, it took techs a very long time to figure out why I was receiving this message.  I somewhat recall doing something in the control panel and checking the SSID and password.
I recently received a new wireless router and now my printer does not work wirelessy.  I can't figure it out!!
    Anyone having the same probelm?

  • My Macbook Pro 13' from 2011 keeps kicking me off the internet, even though my internet service (complete with brand new router) shows strong bars. Any help?!

I've had this 13 Inch Macbook Pro complete with the Lion since October 2011. I've been having trouble with the internet connection. I keep getting 'unable to connect to the internet' or 'website unavaiable'. We have a brand new router, so we know for certain the router isn't going out. Both of my parents computers connect just fine without getting kicked out. I thought maybe it was the seat, so I switched chairs and rooms and positions, but that doesn't seem to help. I check my internet connection and always says 'connected' with full bars. I've tried different browswers, using Safari and Google Chrome. It's frustrating not being able to get online and get kicked off in the middle of whatever you're doing for a reason you can't figure out. Any help/suggestions? It's been going on for a month or so now.

After biting the bullet and ordering more RAM, my computer now is working a ton better. So that must have been the main issue. With 8 GB RAM, I can now even run Parallels fluidly (better than my work PC!) where before simple things like logging in to my MBP after reboot could take forever.
The place I went to had several other people getting RAM upgrades at the same time as me, so between this and other comments I've seen in discussions here and elsewhere on the Internets, I take it to mean that either Apple should bump up the base RAM on its new machines, and/or stop charging so much for additional RAM.
I refused to believe a Pro machine bought with Lion installed would come with too little RAM for light to medium usage, but it was apparently the case. I'll mark this as a correct answer and hope some other poor soul will come across this thread and be helped by it.
