some sites won't open correctly and it says unable to connect to proxy. why???

I am no longer able to send or receive any files via messages on my desktop - im running OS X 10.8.4.
I haven't change any setting recently, its just started saying "unable to connect to proxy. Try again"
If i go to preferences in messages and server settings the server is api.oscar.aol.com and the port is 443 with Use SSL checked, connect using proxy is unchecked.

Hi,
iChat and Messages are rubbish with Proxies. (but see 5th paragraph)
Older version of iChat had proxy settings you could make in the app itself (As in on the AIM account's pane)
It always did slightly better when set to use the "System Settings" if a proxy was in use.
In Messages this have been reduced.
See Messages > Preferences> Accounts > Aim account > Server Settings tab.
It is now a Tick Box and a "Use System Settings" box. There is nowhere to actually stick info.
IS the computer using a Proxy to access the Internet ?
Is it set up correctly in System Preferences > Network > (Advanced Button) > Proxies tab ?
As I have never run a Proxy my knowledge is limited after the point.

After that go to Using Mountain Lion and filter "Messages" and read oldest Unread first.
Quick scan of page one from things that might be about Messages that were not marked for the filter.
Repeat for iChat Community.
Repeat if time for Lion Comunity > iChat and iChat Sharing filter.
Most days I do get all new posts.
(yesterday I didn't though).
Bumped posts can therefore get "Missed" for longer as they go up the Unread list.

Unable to connect to proxy-Webservices

Hi Experts,
I have a URL of a webservice and I am trying to test it in WS navigator but while testing I am getting error
"Cannot connect to http://10.66.231.217:8080/<some path>?wsdl: Unable to connect to proxy:8080 - proxy "
Please help me understandig the reason for error.

Anup I am getting an error "Unable to import the model." when i click next after selecting wsdl URL. Any solutiion. I tried creating deployable proxy for this web service as well but while importing the WSDL it gives below stated error

Unable to connect to proxy due to automatic https

Hi there,
I am the network administrator for an Australian K-12 school. We are cross platform, and support both Mac & Windows environments, based of an Active Directory Infrastructure.
We have local proxy server based on ISA 2006, using McAfee SmartFilter as the local filtering solution.
The issue I am having has been occuring since Firefox 12 was released. A number of websites retrieved through firefox started using the HTTPS connection by default, for example google.com, youtube.com, twitter.com, or carrying out a search using the search bar.
For example - If i search cat in the search bar, Firefox will automatically refer the search through this url - https://www.google.com.au/search?q=cat&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&channel=fflb.
With the majority of our Mac computers running Firefox 14 or later, this search is hampered and returns the message Proxy is refusing connection. To overcome this, I have trained staff and students to remove the 's' from http:// and to reattempt the connection. If it isn't a blocked term, ie porn, the proxy will ask for login details, and connect through.
In the case of a blocked website, such as YouTube, the same fix is applied to bring up the block page, which can allow the override. Further more, once the filtering is turn off. The issue doesn't rear again, until the filter cuts back in.
This also occurs, but less often with our Windows based computers running Firefox, as they support NTLM authentication straight through.
What makes it most curious, is that Safari versions 5 & 6, the current and many releases of Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer 7, 8 & 9 work flawlessly.
I'm looking for an option or a fix that will allow us to set a preference the HTTP over HTTPS for these website so that Firefox can at least work straight out, prior to the release of this feature, or adjust so that if the connection is refused/unable to connect by the proxy at, it will try by HTTP before failing to connect.
If there is anything else I can try, please let me know.

I can't speak for YouTube or Twitter, but for your search engines, you can edit some of those settings.
(1) Address bar search
You can edit the keyword.URL setting to use an http:// URL. This article describes how to access that setting, and the following thread has an alternate URL you can use for the searches:

Hi could you help me please im unable to connect to internet in internet explorer 11 ,windows 7..I cannot contact my internet security Norton nor microsoft help it says proxy server unable to connect,contact your administrator.I have been through many
things and nothing has worked.Im unable to to change anything in the lan settings as when i uncheck things it checks them again.As you can prob tell im a bit of a novice to say the least ,please help.Yours AH

If my understanding is right, you can’t use the Internet Explorer 11 to open website, and when you uncheck the option in the LAN settings, it will check it back.
Please answer the following question for better analyzation:
1. Is the computer domain-based?
2. Have you made any changes before this issue?
If this computer is domain-based, Please check if other computers have the same issue.
If so , we need to contact the administrator of the domain.
Additionally, we could try to reset Internet Explorer and check if the issue still exists.

Unable to connect to proxy server error when I don't use a proxy?

Hi everyone, I had an error connecting to the internet and it turned out that my proxy settings had been changed on System Preferences to connect to a proxy. I noticed that I could access certain websites like Google, Facebook and Twitter but the rest of the web was a no go. Thing is, I'm the only person that uses this computer. Anyway, I changed my settings to stop connecting to that proxy and it made me think: how did my settings get changed in the first place? For one thing I have definitely set it so that you need to put in my Admin password in order to change such settings. Could this be some form of spyware/online tracking attempt on my computer? Do you guys have any suggestions on what I can do to prevent this in the future or what I can do to make sure my computer is completely secure (if it isn't already)?

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) on the advice of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

when sending a file to another person who is using AIM. Proxy? what proxy? I have no problem when doing iChat - iChat file transfer. What's up? who's not playing nice?

Based on that info it looks like your Buddy.
iChat and AIM log on the AIM server on port 5190 using the TCP protocol.
In Direct chats (where you send pics and files in the text chat) or just plain File sending happens or moves to port 5190 on the UDP protocol.
It sounds like he has a proxy for his logging on but for the other.

[Win7 Spotify v1] no connection behind proxy

I can login to my premium account and that's it. No music playback. Actually nothing displays on the left to playlist. You need to wait a few minutes for preferences to displays after pressing Ctrl-P
I have tried completly uninstall and clear windows registries with Revo Unistaller tool and install application back.
After observing that the option file (d:\userdata\xxxx\Application Data\Spotify\prefs) keep groving infinitely with exact copies of line entries I give up and reverted to 0.9 version and blocked auto update with help of an excelent how-to found on the forum.
BTW: Discountinuation of apps support is a *huge* downgrade for me.

Same problem, unable to connect via proxy and preference screen doesn't pop up at all.
Agree with you on the friends activity feed, don't mind it but it isn't important.
I am a bit worried about the "Messages" Icon since I don't want spotify to be anything other than a tool to play music.
I definetly don't want spotify to become a swiss army knife kind of app.

I am getting an unable to connect error messagen when I start the browser. The setting is set to "no proxy" and my internet connection is working fine. What can I do to fix this?

I opened up my firefox browser yesterday and it crashed. Since then I get an error message that says "unable to connect" every time I try to load the browser. The setting is set to "no proxy" So it should be connecting. My internet explorer browser is working fine. So I know it is not my internet connection. What can I do to make the firefox browser work again?

Unable to connect Appstore through Proxy in Mavericks 10.9.1

I am working in a network with proxy. With Mountain Lion my Appstore was connecting fine. But since I have upgraded to Mavericks(10.9.1) I am unable to connect Appstore. It asks me Proxy user name and password but no connection after that. In the network preferences I have provided the username and password for http, https, ftp and socks configurations.

I am having a different problem, using Mavericks (10.9.3) with Photoshop CS 5.1 and a Wacom Intuos 5 tablet (6.3.8-2).
I used to have the white menu problem, but lately I'll be working along and then suddenly my brush tool, say, will turn into the hand tool, but still shows the brush in the tools palette. If I click on another tool, no matter what, it continues to show the hand tool. I can't brush with it anymore, so it isn't just a display problem. I'm often in full screen mode, and if I hit the "f" key to return to standard screen mode, the normal grey background switches to blue, hitting it again switches it to black, and if I keep hitting the "f" it will continue to cycle through the colors.
I've tried quitting Photoshop and relaunching, and would still have the hand icon. In the past, I would restart the cpu; today, I walked away and when I returned (within 10 minutes, probably) it was acting normally again.
This scenario plays out sometimes once a week, sometimes multiple times. I can't find anything relating to this particular issue doing a google search. Any suggestions?

Intermittent proxy error "There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate. Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server "

Hi all,
From time to time (at least once a day), the following message pops up on the user's screen:
"There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate. Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server . Error Code 80000000)."
If we click "OK" it goes away and everything continues to work although sometimes Outlook disconnects. It is quite annoying...
Any ideas?

For the security alert issue, I'd like to recommend you check the name in the alert windows, and confirm if the name is in your certificate.
Additionally, to narrow down the cause, when the Outlook client cannot connect again, I recommand you firstly check the connectivity by using Test E-mail AutoConfiguration. For more information, you can refe to the following article:

Hi,
I had problems with RPC proxy, I was trying to setup cutover migration.
So I read somewhere that i need to change the certprincipalname with Set-Outlookprovider.
But after this change my outlook was not working anymore
The settings before the change were:
Name Server CertPrincipalName TTL
EXCH
1
EXPR
1
WEB
1
So I set this back to the original (above) but this didn't helped...

Please make sure the mail.abc-company.com is included in your Exchange certificate which has been assigned with IIS service.
If possible, please run the following command for double check:
Get-ExchangeCertificate | FL
For Autodiscover service, please run
Test E-mail AutoConfiguration to check if the connection is successful in Log tab and confirm the other services URL can use proper namespace in Results tab for request access.
If the Autodiscover service fails, please create a SRV record with mail.abc-company.com for Autodiscover service to have a try:

Hello,
I have just commenced a Exchange 2007 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 migration following the following guide: http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/07/25/part-1-step-by-step-exchange-2007-to-2013-migration.aspx
As per the above guide, my 2007 environment is now known as legacy.company.com and my 2013, webmail.company.com.
I'm using the same certificate on both boxes and it has the names autodiscover.company.com, webmail.company.com and legacy.company.com. All that seems to be working fine.
OWA is functioning perfectly, hitting https://webmail.company.com will pass the user off to https://legacy.company.com if the mailbox is on 2007. Alongside this, Outlook also has no issues connecting to 2007 mailboxes with the client proxy settings
being reconfigured to https://legacy.company.com automatically.
My problem comes when a mailbox is migrated to 2013. OWA functions fine and presents the mailbox but Outlook is unable to connect, presenting the error:
There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate.
The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target site webmail.company.com.
Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server. (Error Code 0)
If I modify the Outlook client's settings and disable "Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in their certificate: msstd:webmail.company.com", Outlook connects and functions fine.
I'm at a loss and have tried everything I can think and find on google. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You have not trusted the certification authority at the root.
The certificate may be invalid or revoked.
The certificate does not match the name of the site.
A third-party add-in is preventing access.
Solution:
To examine the certificate, follow these steps:
In Microsoft Internet Explorer, connect to the RPC server or to the secure server. For example, type
https://www.<var>server_name</var>.com/rpc in the Address bar of the Web browser, and then press ENTER.
Note The <var>server_name</var> placeholder references the RPC server name or the secure server name.
Double-click the padlock icon that is located in the lower-right corner of the Web browser.
Click the Details tab.
Note the information in the following fields:
Valid to
The Valid to field indicates the date until which the certificate is valid.
Subject
The data in the Subject field should match the site name.

AD Server - 2003 R2 SP2
exchange-svr01.domain.com - internal name
mail.company.net - external name
When users opened Outlook 2010, they will encountered
"There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate. The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target site exchange-svr01.domain.com.
Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server.(Error Code 10)"
I also used the Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer to test RPC/HTTP connectivity.
The RPC/HTTP test completed successfully.
    Validating the certificate name.
    Certificate name validation failed.
     Host name company.net doesn't match any name found on the server certificate CN=AMAZONA-U59HG9G.
Testing SSL mutual authentication with the RPC proxy server.
    The test passed with some warnings encountered.
The certificate common name company.net doesn't match the mutual authentication string provided mail.company.net; however, a match was found in the subject alternative name extension.
