Unable to connect to the hard drive connected to the airport extreme.

I have a new Aiport extreme base station and a usb hard drive is connected to it. But mac air is not finding it. Couldn't see it in the finder.
Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, the AirPort cannot share out a drive formatted in either NTFS or ExFat. It must be in either HFS+ or FAT32. If the AirPort Utility can't recognize the drive, it can't be shared.

  • How do I access an external hard drive attached to an Airport Extreme using the Finder's "Go to the folder" feature?

How do I access an external hard drive attached to an Airport Extreme using the Finder's "Go to the folder" feature?
I have an external hard drive attached to my Airport Extreme and I can access it just fine through Finder.  I would like to be able to keyboard navigate to it in an efficient manner.  I tried to use the "Go to the folder" feature but was unable to.
I had tried dragging the drive to the Network folder but the shortcut it created does not lead to the drive's contents...it seems to lead right back to the parent directory:
I hope I explained the question well.  Thank you for all of your help and time in tending to my inquiry.

Cant you set up "back to my mac" then go to finder preferences and put a check mark under everything under the shared location. Also set up back to my mac on your airport extreme.

How do I use time machine to backup to an external hard drive plugged into my airport extreme?  I used to be able to but now time machine will not recognize my hard drive to select as a backup when plugged into my airport extreme.  I'm not sure what happened or changed.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks

  • Why can't I connect to my external hard drive anymore through my AirPort extreme?

I have a WD 500 GB external hard drive connected to my AirPort extreme that I have been using just fine for some time now. All of a sudden, I cannot access the files on the hard drive and when I try to connect to my AirPort in finder, the connection fails. What can I do to fix this?

If I restart my Mac it notices them
This is puzzling. You should not have to restart your Mac for drives to mount.
Also I plugged the hard drive directly into my Mac and had to restart it before it noticed it
Same as above. You should not have to restart the Mac for the drive to be recognized.
Connect the drive directly to the Mac and restart the Mac if necessary to mount the drive. Then run Verify Disk using Disk Utility on the Mac. If repairs are needed, run Repair Disk. Locate Disk Utility as follows:
Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
See if the drive is recognized at the AirPort Extreme. Post on your results.

  • How to move external hard drive (time machine) off airport extreme network?

For several years now, I've had an external hard drive connected to my airport extreme and it's servered as an awesome external back-up of my Macbook via Time Machine.  However, now I've had to remove the external hard drive from my network (that's a whole other story).  Anyway, when I connect the external hard drive to my MacBook, it doesn't recongize it as my Time Machine back-up. It is still looking for "My Book" on my network, which obviously doesn't exist anymore.  Can I simply re-direct it to "my book" that is now connected via USB to my computer?  Do I have to start over?  If possible, I'd like to keep the back-ups I already had and simply continue with my new back-ups.  Please advise!  Thanks!

  • Time Machine and External Hard Drive wireless backup over airport extreme

Ok can this be done? I have an external HD that I used a firewire to connect to my macbook pro and it backed up my movies, photo's etc without a problem.
When I realized I could plug the HD into the back of the extreme I tried that and I can see the shared HD in my finder but I cannot get time machine to backup wirelessly now and I can't see my previous back up in Time machine but I can see it when I look on the HD.
Can I continue to do my backups over the extreme wirelessly? How do i do this? Or do I have to plug the firewire and mac into the HD each time I want to back up using time machine?
    Thanks,

I hope that support is added to the airport extreme. I would be disappointed in apple to learn that they have disabled it for the airport extreme and connected hard drive in order to only sell another piece of hardware (time capsule) that is simply the airport extreme with a hard drive built in.
There are reported work arounds for getting the airport extreme and external hard drive to work with time machine. A couple google search results outlined the process, it didn't look too complicated. I would prefer it was a feature and not a work around though.

  • Hard Drive not showing in Airport Extreme

i am using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit operating system
I have the hard drive showing in the Airport Utility but can't access the files
Now i have tried all of this from the apple website with no luck, am i missing something here i have read that it only supports fat32 operating systems which the hard drive is but struggling to connect to it.
    Any advice is appreciated
    Automatically mounting hard disks
From the main window of AirPort Disk Utility enable "Show AirPort Disks in the menu bar".
Enter the username and password required to access the AirPort Disk(s).
Manually mounting hard disks using the AirPort Disk menu bar item
Click the AirPort Disk menu bar icon () and select the Base Station with desired USB hard drive.
Select the desired hard disk(s) (AirPort Disk).
Enter the username and password required to access the AirPort Disk(s).
Manually mounting Mac OS Extended (HFS+) volumes
From the Finder's Go menu choose Connect to Server.
Enter the AirPort Extreme Base Station's LAN IP address (by default 10.0.1.1).
Enter the username and password required to access the AirPort Disk(s).
Select the desired AirPort Disk(s) from the available Volumes.
    Manually mounting FAT16/FAT32 volumes
From the Finder's Go menu choose Connect to Server.
Enter the AirPort Extreme Base Station's LAN IP address preceded by smb:// (for example, smb://10.0.1.1 )
Enter the username and password required to access the AirPort Disk(s). Leave the Workgroup field empty unless you have assigned one in AirPort Utility.
Select the desired AirPort Disk from the available CIFS (Common Internet File System) volumes

You can usually enter anything you want for the user name, but the password will need to be the device password for the AirPort Extreme....(not the wireless network password).

  • What external hard drives are compatible with Airport Extreme?

I would like to get a 500GB external hard drive and connected it to my airport extreme via a USB cable, but I have heard that the airport extreme doesn't recognize some hard drives. Can anyone recommend hard drives that are known to work well with the extreme and aren't too noisy?

  • Can my external hard drive be viewed with airport extreme

looking to get an airport extreme to allow my mac air to use the wireless connection to link to it.  Is this doable?

Of course. The USB port of the AirPort Extreme allows you to connect a printer or external drive and share it with all the PCs and Macs connected to your AirPort Extreme.
When you connect the external drive to the AirPort Extreme, it will appear as a network drive. To access to it, open a Finder window and select the external drive in the Finder sidebar, under "Shared"

  • How can I connect an External Hard Drive plugged in an Airport Extreme to my Samsung Smart TV?

    Hi..
I have an Airport Extreme and an external hard drive in its USB... I could connect it to both my Windows and Mac computers, but I couldn't connect to my Samsung Smart TV... Does anybody know how to do that ?
    Thanks,
    Felipe

Did you have any luck with this? I have the same issue... my Samsung TV used to connect fine with USB drives connected to other routers, but since I upgraded to Airport Extreme, the TV no longer sees any external drives, although WiFi is working great via Airport Extreme.

  • Can I Connect an External Hard Drive to an older Airport Extreme?

I have an Airport Extreme V5.7 and was wondering if I can connect it to my external Hard drive via USB. Is this possible? Right now I have it hooked up but I don't see it anywhere on my PB G4. It mentions that I can hook up a USB Printer but I would hope that it could connect to an external hard drive as well. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks,

The round AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) do not support USB hard drives.

  • Windows 7 machine unable to connect to WDS (Airport extreme + express)

Hi - I've just dusted down my old Airport Extreme (b/g) and Airport Express to extend the range of a Sagem Mini Livebox router (that we use because it gives internet telephone and tv feeds here in France).
The AExt has an ethernet connection to the livebox and is set up as the main WDS machine; the AExp is connected wirelessly to the AExt as a WDS relay station. It all works fine - I've set the airport wifi network up with a different name to the main livebox wifi network, and can access it using my Mac machines all over the house. But my wife has a Windows 7 machine that she uses for work ... and it fails to see the airport network (but is able to connect to the livebox wifi without any problem).
I don't know Windows 7 very well, and there seem to be very few options that you can configure. The wifi adaptor is a Dell 1390 (only b/g connections according to an online manual); but the old airport boxes only support b/g compatible connections, so that should work.
I've set up a wireless network on the W7 machine that matches the airport profile: WPA personal security ... but my understanding is that this will not change whether the W7 machine can see the airport network (but only affect how or whether it connects).
Not sure what else I can do? Any thoughts on how I can reconfigure my airport WDS network so that the W7 machine can see it (and connect to it)?
    Thanks - andy

Are you trying to configure the Express to "join" the wireless network?
If yes, the message you are receiving is likely an indication that you do not have the correct security settings selected for the Express. Unless the security settings between the wireless router and Express match up exactly, the Express will display the error that "an error occurred, etc".
The easiest way to confirm if you have this problem is temporarily set the main wireless router to "no security" and try to connect the Express that way. If you can connect, then you know that it is a security issue.
Please tell us the exact setting for security that the wireless router there is using and we'll try to give you some more ideas.
The Express will connect. It's just a matter of finding the right settings.

  • Unable to connect Roku to Airport Extreme, cannot establish LAN

I have been trying to hook up a Roku box but cannot establish a LAN. Any suggestions?

Is your AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) configured to create an 802.11b/g compatible network?
Is your wireless network configured to use WPA2? Macs with 802.11b AirPort cards can not connect to WPA2 protected networks. They can connect to WPA protected networks IF they are running OS 10.3 or better. They can also connect to WEP protected networks.

  • How do I access a USB hard drive plugged into my AirPort Extreme from a PC?

    Hi
I have an AirPort Exteme, and my cousin and I are having no trouble accessing it from our MacBook Pro, however when it comes to my other cousin, she can't find it fron her PC (operating on windows 7).  When the MacBook Pro's open finder it is just sitting under 'shared'.  How do I get my cousin to access the Hard Drive from her PC? She is connected to the Wi-Fi network just fine
    Thanks in advance!

Download the Airport utility for PC from Apple - I use this to connect - This should load the Airport Base Station Agent in the system tray which can be used to connect. It should appear as a Network Drive (Z:)

  • Hard drive compatibility problems with Airport Extreme

Yesterday I received and installed Airport Extreme to create a home network where I would have external hard drives connected to the network by USB. Airport Extreme wouldn’t recognize my 1TB Western Digital My Book hard drive and after some investigation I find out that Airport doesn’t recognize HD formatted in NTFS.
So my plan was to move the data off the WD HD on to a spare HDs I have, reformat the the WD HD to a Mac/Airport extreme friendly format and then move the data back on. It’s kind of a pain but not the end of the world. Then as I’m transferring the files between hard drives I get a message that the file is too large to move to the other HD. I read some forums and see that FAT32 partitioned drives can only take file sizes up to 4GBs (I didn’t check the drive format but assume this to be the case). The problem is that some of the video files on the WD (NTFS format) are in excess of that size so I can reformat the extra drive to NTFS to get the files off the WD HD, reformat the WD to be Mac friendly and reformat in FAT32 (or something else) but then I’ll be stuck with the same problem by having the files on the other HD that will be too large to move back to the reformatted WD HD. Any ideas on the best way I can move these files onto a MAC readable/writable format that will support file sizes in excess of 4 GBs and be recognized by Airport Extreme? Is there a way that I can cut the files down to get them under 4 GBs? Any help is much appreciated.

I should be able to format the 2nd drive back to FAT32 so it can communicate to both the PC and Mac
you could do that, or you could install MacDrive on the winsloth side.
alternatively, you could format the 2nd drive in NTFS and install the _*NTFS 3G*_ driver, which will enable the Mac to write to it (Macs can read NTFS out-of-the-box).
no more 4 GB per file limit
however, i would prefer to have my drives formatted for Mac ...
