Unable to connect to Time Capsule wireless AP.

I've got WPA/WPA2 security enabled on the TC and I enter the password into the iPhone (3G w/2.2) and I get the message that it can't connect. I also have a LinkSys 11g AP and it has WPA security on it and the iPhone won't connect to it either.
This is getting beyond annoying as I have an older 11b AP that is dying and is unreliable. I've tried looking at the iPhone manual and it wasn't much of a help. What am I doing wrong?

Yes, it would downgrade the network to b/g if the iPhone or any other b/g-only compatible client were connected at the same time.
At this time, 802.11n is not supported on the iPhone. You can submit feedback to Apple about this at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Home network using Time Capsule as primary router, and Airport express for AirTunes.
The MacBook with no problems at all.
But the windows computer (windows XP SP3 Tablet PC) only connects if the network security is disable, didn't work neither with WEP or WAP or WAP2.
As you may think I'm not comfortable having my network without any security...

Mavericks unable to connect to Time Capsule

Have just set up new (Late 2013) Retina MacBook Pro with Mavericks into existing TimeCapsule.
I turned on Time Machine and the initial backup went fine. Subsequent attempts to backup result in an error message of "There was an error connecting to the server "TimeCapsule" and backups are "delayed".
Other details:
-TimeCapsule appears under Shared in a Finder window but won't connect (message to check IP address or name or contact administrator).
-TimeCapsule and backups continue to work fine with both another MBP (mid '10) running Mavericks, and a MacBook (late '07) running Lion 10.7.5
-The sparsebundles exist for all three Macs because thay appear in Finder on these other Macs.
-Rebooting my new MBP solves the problem - for a while. Then at some time that doesn't seem to have rhyme or reason the TimeCapsule is unconnectable again.
A OSX 10.9 issue or something else?

I think I have isolated the issue, though not the cause, and have a workaround:
It seems to be a problem of the 2013 Retina MBP and Mavericks being unable to find/log on to the Time Capsule while asleep and that corrupting future attempts to do so.
I turned off "Enable Power Nap while plugged in to power adaptor" in System Preferences>Energy Saver. Now no more problems of being unable to find the Time Capsule after sleep - but no Power Napping feature either.
The Power Nap option is not available in Prefs on the 2010 MBP (also running Mavericks) so that is why the same OS does not have that problem on the older laptop.

Unable to connect to Time Capsule hard drive

I have my Time Capsule set up as my wi-fi internet router and my time machine backups go on its hard drive. More often lately, I can get to the internet just fine but when I try to browse to the Time Capsule hard drive, I receive a message about it being unable to connect. This error occurs on both my iMac that is connected to the Time Capsule via ethernet and those accessing it via wi-fi. If I unplug the Time Capsule and plug it back in, it connects. It's just a pain having to do this every week! Any thoughts on why this might be happening?

There is a large number of reports of the issue. The Mac forgets the TC name.. but still has sufficient info in the routing table to get internet. Apple have so far not fixed it. And yes, it is a pain.
Can I suggest you try to connect to the TC by IP address instead of name.
I have offered a number of other solutions that plainly haven't solved it.
This is a new one. A Eureka moment.. perhaps!!
Since the IP of the TC is still available even if the name of the tc is lost in the Mac, open finder, click on Go, Connect to server, type in afp://10.0.1.1 or whatever your TC ip address is. It will request the password. Just put in your usual password to the TC.. or if unchanged it is public.
I just tested that and it worked. It should also not get lost, since it doesn't depend on the Mac keeping the name to ip in the table. See how you go and I am interested in your results.

Lost internet connection via time capsule, wireless signal grayed out. What may be wrong?

My mac mini started intermitently losing connection to the Internet. Checked settings, look OK, no changes. Wireless signal icon in the menu bar is sometimes full sometimes grayed out (no connection at all). Other computers connecting via the same Time Capsule without any problems. I've serched forums and tried some suggestions to no avail. My mini is core 2 duo 1.83 GHz, 2GB RAM. Snow Leopard up to date.
What may be wrong?

Well, I reset the TimeCapsule to factory settings and configured it again for my home network and all works like a charm again.

Unable to connect to Time Capsule: "Access the volumes and files locally"

I've been experiencing a problem for about two months now with no ability to connect to my Time Capsule. I have other systems in my household including being able to access from a Windows desktop and another older MacBook.
When I attempt to connect to the Time Capsule, I receive an error "The server <Capsule Name> is available on your computer. Access the volumes and files locally."
I've attempted various fixes including changing the network sharing name of my laptop and time capsule name via AirPort Utility as suggested in the following link without success:

Several volumes and folders have been shared and they are accessible within LAN. The problem is that I cannot even connect to the server, even though the connection has been established. Mac OS X always seems to think that it has already been connected and they are readily available but it's not listed under Network.
Looking at other topics, this seems to be a prevalent problem but I don't find any solution for this yet.

Unable to connect to Time Capsule

Good morning !
I'm stumped. I have a Time Capsule that my 2 computers back up to via Time Machine.
This morning I booted my iMac and clicked on the icon of the Time Capsule under shared ... but nothing happened. I can't see the Time Capsule's drive.
On my Mac Mini it does connect to the Time Capsule and the Time Capsule's drive is visible.
Backups are working and so does internet.
Why can I connect to the Time Capsule from the Mini but not from the iMac ?
Please help !

Connecting time capsule wirelessly to BT home hub

Help unable to set up time capsule to wirelessly join my BT home hub (original white home hub for use in UK). Goes through all the stages then when restarts can't find airport device. Took it to local genius bar and worked fine there. Is this a problem peculiar to home hubs?

ESM@ESM, welcome to the discussion area!
In order to "Join a wireless network", you need to know the exact type of wireless security that your BT Home Hub is using, so you can provide those settings to the Time Capsule. It cannot join your network unless you have the correct settings.
It would be much easier to configure your Time Capsule to connect to your Home Hub using an ethernet cable. This will still allow you to use your Home Hub wireless network for backups, and you'll also have the option to use ethernet for backups, which will allow you to backup much more quickly. Can you consider that option?

How do I connect my Time Capsule on my modem wirelessly?

I already have a modem that I use to access the internet wirelessly on my macbook. Is there a way that I can connect my Time Capsule on this modem without having to use an enthernet cable?

So you are saying that if I use the AirPort Extreme Base Station I would be able to connect my TC wirelessly and expend my wireless signal at home?
No, please see my previous answer.....

That is not possible. The Time Capsule could "extend" the signal only if it is provided by another Apple router.
What I did say was.....
When the Time Capsule "joins" a wireless network, it simply connects to the network...like another computer. If you configure the Time Capsule this way, it becomes a wireless hard drive. it performs no routing functions and it will need to be located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from your main wireless router.
I am not recommending that you set up the Time Capsule this way, but will provide the steps if you want.
So, to clarify....
The Time Capsule can be configured to "join" your existing wireless network. It will not extend or expand the wireless network. The Time Capsule becomes a wireless hard drive in this type of configuration.
I do not recommend this type fo setup for most users because it is difficult to configure and limits backups to wireless only. You will not be able to connect to the Time Capsule using Ethernet to backup, which is much faster than wireless.

Connecting a work laptop to Time Capsule wireless internet

I have recently upgraded our G4 iMac and MacBook Pro to Leopard. I have connected a Time Capsule to both machines using the wireless facility on the capsule. It asked for a password when I set up the network so I created one. However, my husband also connects to the network with his work pc. Since moving from Airport Express with no password to the new network he can no longer get online. How do I fix this? Can I create another network without the need for a password or is it something to do with his computer? I have tried deleting the password but it keeps putting it back.

I also need to know how the two computers can share wirelessly. Most of the photos, music etc are on the iMac. I am not 100% as to how the Time Capsule works!! Aren't we supposed to pull the files we want to use from the Time Capsule??? and then it backs up. How do I set up sharing and can I delete all the files on the Mac's now since they are on the Time Capsule? I need someone to explain to me how this new system works!!

The Time Capsule can store files on its hard drive for sharing across the network. Sharing files off one computer w/o copying them to the TC's hard drive is a general networking question and unrelated to the Capsule. Check the Leopard rums for an answer to that (though I believe the "Drop Box" in "Public" in your Home folder is the easy way to do this).
Your husband's work PC (which says "Windows" to me) probably needs to "refind" the network without the old one to muck it up. You should be able to view the "Properties" of the old connection and delete it. I could talk you through it but I'd have to fire up my (buggy) PC and I'm on the way to bed. He should be able to log in even with the password though. Be sure your TC settings are compatible with his work PC. Also, one way to "cheat" is just to rename the SSID. This will force all computers to look for a new network the first time they login. Sometimes it's the easiest way to make a computer "forget" the old one.

No you can't join a wireless hotspot with a Time Capsule directly via it's 'join' option (tried and failed - well to be exact it kinda works but the Time Capsule's ethernet ports no longer work).
What you can do is buy an airport express and use it's 'join' option to connect to the iPhone's hotspot. Then you connect the airport express via ethernet to the time capsule (in bridge-mode).
You can then connect your computers to the time capsule via ethernet or use it's wireless function to set up wireless network (with a different name to that of the hotspot) that your wifi stuff can connect to.

I get duplicate IPs error messages (no connection) sometimes when trying to connect devices to the wireless network. How do I fix? Sometimes devices cannot connect to the network because of conflicting IPs. I look on the Motorola and every device has a unique IP assigned but occasionally a device has taken the IP of another device. I have been writing down all the devices and the IPs they have been using. It happens more with PCs than Macs, ipads or iPhones.

If the Time Capsule is set up correctly in bridge mode, then it is the responsibility of the Motorola modem/router to provide the correct IP address assignments for all devices on the network.
Check to insure that the Time Capsule is correctly set up to operate in bridge mode as follows:
On your Mac, open AirPort Utility
Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Network tab at the top of the next window
Insure that the setting for Router Mode is configured to read "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Once you have confirmed that the Time Capsule is configured correctly, everything else is the responsibility of the Motorola modem/router as far as network routing and IP address assignments for devices.
If you continue to have IP address issues, then you should contact the Internet Service Provider (ISP) that provided the Motorola device to you and ask them to fix the issue.

Mac connects but PC won't connect to internet via TIme Capsule wireless net

I have my personal Mac and work PC at home. I'm switching from a wireless network using my airport extreme base station to a new time capsule. Had no problems earlier, but now with my new wireless network I have the following problem:
- Both Mac and PC are able to connect to my home wireless network created through Time Capsule
- Only Mac can access the internet via the Time Capsule wireless network
- PC connects fine to the wireless network, but the settings indicate the internet cannot be accessed
I've tried fiddling with configurations etc. but cannot seem to get the PC to connect through to the internet using my Time Capsule.
The PC will connect directly to the net if I plug in the ethernet from my cable modem....What's the problem? Any ideas?

Make it a habit to power down your modem whenever you connect something different to it. Merely detaching the AEBS and attaching your Time Capsule or your computer directly will confuse most modems, so leave it powered down for a few moments. Power down your other equipment while you're at it.
Then, power up all the equipment as follows:
Modem... wait a few moments for it to complete its startup sequence.
Time Capsule. Wait a few moments again.
Computers.
Be sure your PC and your Mac are getting their addresses "via DHCP".

HT1178 I just bought an Airport Time Capsule. I already have a AirportExtreme for my wireless network for my home. Which would be better; connect the time capsule up to the extreme or use it as the primary base station?

There is no end of answers to this..
But if you want AC wireless.. assuming you bought a new TC.. and the Extreme is the older N model.. then simply make sure the TC is as close as possible to where wireless AC client will be used.. and connect it back to the main router whichever that is, by ethernet.
If both are AC then it will make no difference.
As long as you can connect them both by ethernet and not use wireless extend.. it won't make much difference.
The worst case is where you use wireless extend and expect high speed but totally lose it because of your bridge link.. if that is the case you wasted your money and you can return the TC and buy a hard disk and plug it into the AE.

Time capsule wireless connectivity

I've got a two story house. The Time Capsule is upstairs, but my Macbook, only 20 feet away downstairs, has a weak signal. Any ideas on how I can maximize the signal?

Forgive the size of the post, but the suggestions below have helped others with similar issues. Try each topic individually and see if things improve, If not move on to the next one.
*Keep the Time Capsule Cool*
Some posters have observed that when they positioned the Time Capsule for better ventilation and cooling, their network connectivity issues resolved themselves. Also avoid locating the devise within poorly ventilated cabinets or piling items around or on top of it.
*Time Capsule Orientation*
While the location you chose to setup your Time Capsule may be acceptable, but the direction it is oriented can have an effect on signal strength. It appears that the signal of the Time Capsule does not radiate equally from all sides of the devise.
The antennas within the devise are positioned along the 3 smooth sides. That is, there is no antenna on the side bearing the ports and cables. As a result, position the devise with the ports and cables AWAY from the direction of most of the clients that will be connecting to it.
*Cordless Phones*
Some users have discovered that the cordless phones they have in the home occupy or are near the same bandwidth as their wireless network (2.4Ghz or 5Ghz). Try temporarily disabling the handsets and their bases and see if network connectivity improves. If so you may need to change the channel that the phone uses or purchase phones that occupy a different bandwidth.

Go to System Preferences --> Security.
Click the Firewall tab.
Change setting to “Set access for specific services and applications”.
The System will now ask you when each process wants to penetrate the firewall. Once you click “Allow” each time you are asked, it will be saved in the pane at the bottom of this window and it should never ask you again.

Launch Airport Utility.
Select the device on the left.
Click "Manual Setup."
Select “Airport” in the toolbar.
Click the "Wireless" tab.
If “Channel” is set to “Automatic” try changing to a different one. Holding the Option key down and clicking the drop-down menu should provide more channels to choose from. If you have another wireless router operating, ensure that each devices’ channels are as far apart as possible.
Click “Update”.
Close Airport Utility.
*Preferred Networks & Airport Services*
You may be experiencing interference from other networks in your neighborhood. When you click the Airport menu are there other networks listed other than your own?
If so, is your network at the top of the list? It should be.
Go to System Preferences --> Network --> Select Airport on the left.
Click "Advanced". In the “Airport” tab note the various local wireless networks that Airport detects. Is the network you prefer to connect to at the top of the list? If not drag it to the top. Are there other networks you never intend to connect to (an old work network, or a neighbors network)? Then highlight them and click the "-" button.
Make sure “Remember any network this computer has joined” is checked.
Click "OK".
For "Network Name" be sure your network is selected and then click "Apply".
Is Airport (wireless) your primary means of connecting to your network? If so, is Airport at the top of the list of services on the left? It should be.
Click the small “Gear” button at the bottom of the window and select “Set Service Order”.
Now drag Airport to the top of the list.
Click “OK”. Click “Apply”.
Now see if network connectivity has improved.
*Transmit Power & Wide Channels*
If you are using the 802.11n only (5GHz) radio mode, you can also select to use wide channels, which provide higher data throughput in your network.
Launch Airport Utility
Select your Time Capsule on the left.
Click “Manual Setup”.
Select “Airport” in the toolbar.
Click the “Wireless” tab.
Click “Wireless Options...” at the bottom of the window.
Adjust the “Transmit Power” to 100%.
Put a check mark in the box labeled “Use Wide Channels”. (If you are using a 802.11a/b/g (2.4GHz) radio mode then select “Interference Robustness”)
Click “Done”.
Click “Update” in the lower right hand corner.
Wait for the Time Capsule to restart and then see if your network speeds improve.
