Unable to connect using SMB in finder to iPhone
i am running 10.6.2, i can connect in finder using afp://xxx.xxx.x.x to my iphone logging in using root and password
however, when i try smb://xxx.xxx.x.x, i get this error
connection failed: there was an error connectiong to the server "xxx.xxx.x.x". check the server name and IP address.
i thought i should be able to connect using afp or smb.
Yup, thats the format that i've been using.
I tried what you said and this time it said that it couldn't find the server. I tried using both the ip address and the URL, neither worked

Can't connect using SMB, but can with CIFS
I'm trying to connect to a windows share from my PB running tiger. I can connect fine in finder going 'Network/Workgroup/PC_Name/' but if I us the 'Go > connect to server' in finder I cannot.
I click go, connect to server and type "//192.168.0.3/My Documents/' it says cannot find sever. Same if is use the smb prefix.
When I get info on the share it says CIFS://WORKGROUP;MARK@PC_NAME/My Documents/
so I can't understand why I cant connect using SMB, I've checked directory access and SMB is enabled, workgroup is set. I know I've been able to connect via SMB before, not sure why I can't now?For the longest time I have had an Alias of all my remote PC servers in the Dock. One click and I'm connected. As of 10.4.5 those Alias' no longer work. When I click on them instead of getting the volume mounted and ready, I get a the login window with the Workgroup and User Name asking for the password that should be in the Keychain. I enter the password and click connect and get nothing. No errors, no pings, just the Network icon in the Dock turns into a ?.
I go to the Network Browser and the servers show up in their proper workgroups. I click the server, get the login window, put in the password and get an error that the "Server" could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found. With three buttons "Delete Alias", Fix Alias", and "OK". If it can't be found, then what is it showing me in the browser?
I have 10.4.4 on another partition for emergency backup use in the event 10.4.5 fails (and it is). I went to 10.4.4 and all works just fine. All this started in 10.4.5.

I lost my iPod it's almost been a week now , but I've been using find my iPhone to track it. Recently it showed that my IPod has been offline (wifi) now so I've been wondering if there's a way for Apple to turn it back online (wifi)
- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.

- You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
- If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.
- Apple will do nothing without a court order

If you set up the Find My iPhone service prior to your iPhone going missing - the app is for tracking a device from another iOS device - then there is a chance that can be tracked, though it depends on a number of factors (the iPhone is turned on, connected to either the 3G or a WiFi network, or has not had the Find My iPhone service disabled or the iPhone been completely restored). Log into icloud.com and go to the Find My iPhone section. If you did not set up Find My iPhone, check with your cell carrier. Some carriers offer their own tracking service, though you usually have to pay for it.
If your carrier does not offer such a service and you did not set up Find My iPhone, then there is no way to track the unit. Contact the police and change any passwords for any online accounts you may have used from your iPhone (the iTunes Store, for instance).

I lost my iPod Touch 4th G and I've tried using iCloud and Find My iPhone. But all it says is "Offline." Sadly it's not connected to the internet . There is also no passcode on the iPod so whoever has it can easily access to my personal information. Is there any other way to locate it without wifi?? (The answer is most likely no, but...... I still wanted to ask.)

Will an iphone 4 on a pay as you go basis let me use the app "Find My iPhone"?
If I purchase an iPhone 4 (not under contract) and use the pay as you go basis, can I use the app "Find my iPhone"?
Phone needs to be connected to wifi or cellular data in order to track your phone via fmp.

No. If it is offline then it is not capable of being located over the web.

upgraded to iOS7 but cant accept the terms and conditions as it is 'unable to connect to server' on both my iPhone and iPad, whilst my collegues all could accept them...RESET did NOT work. Any alternative thoughts?
I got it to work by enabling cookies in safari settings and turning off private browsing. Cookies are probably the key thing here. Accept button will appear at bottom right of first screen of agreement.

I have 2 Company ipads. They were set up by someone who has left the company. His email address was deleted when he left - so we cannot send a recovery email request. He connected both iPads to 'find my iphone' - and we cant locate his mobile! help!
If you have the original receipts, you can take them to an Apple Store and they may be able to remove the activation lock. A good lesson learned to have an employee clear a device when leaving.

I think you're stuck if you don't have Find My iPhone enabled.

Using the app "Find my iPhone", I activated lock my iPhone remotely from my iPhone to my sons iPhone. How do I deactivate it for him to use? It says emergency calls only now..

Enter the pass code you set up when locking the phone or the screen lock code already in use on the phone if you weren't required to set one up when you locked it.
