Although connected to internet (via aol/BT) when selecting E Live it says I have no internet connection. Is this a software fault in the programme or am I doing some thing wrong?

Thank you for your valient efforts in attempting to correct my  problem.
I attempted using it again today and to my surprise this time it  worked!!
I don't know what was wrong but may be there was a site problem.

  • Before I finally throw mine out, is there any reason to keep a WDTV Live Hub?

I just found my old WDTV Live Hub in the back of the closet. t hasn't gotten a firmware update in 2 years. It's missing too many of the online services that I use every day, like Amazon. I pulled the hard drive and installed it in my desktop machine about a year. It was a great little gadget that was probably ahead of its time--and I still love the UI--but I think it's time to recycle my WDTV Live Hub, but before I do, is there anything I can do with it? I have a Roku, a Chromecast and a Raspberry Pi 2 with Plex. (These are on different TVs throughout the house.) I know you can't put XBMC (sorry, Kodi) on a Hub. There is alternative firmware for some WDTV boxes, but I can't find anything one that works on a Hub. I tried selling the Hub on eBay (before I pulled the hard drive), but I couldn't find any takers. Is there anything I can do with the Hub that I can't do with a Roku or a Chromecast or a Raspberry Pi just as well if not easier? If nothing else, is there a trick to saving the default background image? The Live Hub really does have the best UI of any streaming device I've tried, and I'd love to reuse that image somehow, maybe as a background for Kodi. Heck, are there any parts, other than the hard drive, that I can recycle and use on other projects? I don't like the idea of pitching any gadget if there's still some life left in it.

right-click "save image as"   I don't use my Live Hub much either ... but i do have a 3TB usb drive attached to it, which the WDTV Live Hub media shares (via Twonky) to my other devices eg. phone, tablet, Rpi2 etc p.s. if you're gonna throw your WDTV Live Hub away .... you can throw it my way Yeah! That's what I did with mine. Pulled the drive and installed it in my Zotac BI320 and moved ALL my music to it then added it to my Kodi library! Then I gave the Hub to someone that really loves the device and his had died. So he put his Hub's drive in it and is loving life again!

  • New Apple TV is unable to connect to Wifi hub (other apple products connect just fine)

My parents new Apple TV is unable to connect to their wifi. It finds it fine and when we put in the password it states it is unable to connect. All their other apple products connect just fine as does their PS3. I have tried unplugging/ plugging back in everything, no luck...

    Hi
Make sure your ATV has the same network name as your other components.  If your ATV is new, you can call Apple for free support.  They are great.

  • Unable to connect new airport extreme to iMAC or MacBook Pro

This must have been covered but I am unable to find a thread addressing my problem. I have just purchased a new Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS). I updated all of my software and have tried to configure the AEBS for both my laptop and iMAC. I connect to the internet (IN) using a cable modem (Motorola SB 5101). Using the ethernet cable I can connect to the IN with both computers. I have configured the AEBS and the "light" comes up green.
Using the "diagnostics" program associated with Safari on my laptop (OS 10.5.6), all but the last 2 lights come up green. I do not know how to overcome this problem.
On the iMAC (OS 10.4.11) I get the message "Airport not configured". When I go to the Airport Utility App and scan, it tells me that a wireless device is not detected, even though the unit is adjacent to the computer. It does have an early wireless card (0x14E4,0x89) Firmware (Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0).
I hope there are better directions somewhere than what came with the unit.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Bob Timmons, thanks for the response... I will respond to your questions..
    1) Yes, I can connect to the internet by attaching the single ethernet type cable from the modem to each computer in-turn.
    2) Yes, when I connect the ethernet cable from the modem to the airport base station, I get a green light. (circle icon)
    3) I do not (as yet) have a spare ethernet cable to try the connection from the AEBS to either computer.
Making these connections work is a little like magic to me. I have an airport express at work that I successfully connected, but when it happened I was not sure what I did.
I get a little confused because there is the Airport programming software, the Diagnostics software that pops up from Safari, and Network software in Preferences. I am not sure which one is the main one to use.
In addition, I try to Connect, wirelessly in several places. Sometimes in an airport where an "automatic" IP address seems to be assigned and sometimes at work where we use static IP addresses.
    I need a map...;o)

  • Airport failing to connect to live hub

Hi all, i gather from reading the forum pages that a number of users are having the same problem as me, so at the risk of gettin on a soap box....
While i am browsing on the internet every so often, and without warning the internet connection in airport fails, and the little airport icon in the top menu bar next to the volume shows like there's no signal. My hub is not failing and is all lit up like a christmas tree indicating the wireless is fine. I get a message telling me that i am no longer connected to the internet. The only reason for this seems to be the performance of airport in my macbook pro. I have recently downloaded a few new updates to software, including a supposed fix to the issues with airport intermittently failing. This seems to have only made the situation worse. Previously i was able to re-enable the connection by re-booting the macbook. This is no longer fixing the connection. I know there's no issue with the service provider as i am still able to get online via the firewire route, but this is definitely not the first choice.
    Anyone got any suggestions?

http://www.mediafire.com/?w94cijfi2i9rb82   ____________________________________________________________________________________  This was designed and Tested on Firmware 3.05.10 by myself and other 'testers'It will work with Firmware 2.07.17 (Except Preview Browse Info .. Which will out of alignment)This Theme was tested working with Media Library On and Off.  A README TEXT:
    * The Theme is a Non-Moviesheet Theme ... it only uses "Poster" Thumbnails either generated via the Hub's Internal Meta Scraper or a 3rd Party
    Scraper.. eg.Thumbgen
So, if you "Are" satisfied with the Jpeg Picture Quality of the Hub's Scraped Posters .. then you dont need to use a 3rd Party Application.
If you are "Not" satisfied with the Jpeg Picture Quality then of course, you can use a 3rd Party Application to generate Poster Thumbnails.
It is Recommended to use and not to exceed a Resolution of 300(w) x 450(h) Dimensions.
Whilst the Theme will do the best to Scale / Align / Fixratio of the Poster Thumbnails it is Recommended to use Posters with and Aspect Ratio of 2:3 or a Scaled Down Resolution of 1000x1500 which is a Popular Standard Format of the TMDB.
    Dont use 1000x1500 !
use a "Scaled" Resolution .. eg. 300x450, 200x300, 178x267, 120x180 are examples of scaled and maintained
    Aspect Ratio based on 1000x1500.
    * The "Appearance" of a Landscape "Fanart" image (eg. Gallery View on the Left Side of Screen) is a Vertically Pannned and Top Aligned Image of the Poster
    Thumbnail Image.
For Movie/Tv Posters with the Graphic Art Focused at the "Top" and the Title/Text is Vertically Bottom Aligned.. this "Simulated" Fanart effect is suitable.
For Movie/Tv Posters with the Graphic Art Focused at the "Bottom" and the Title/Text is Vertically Top Aligned.. then does not look so good.
2 Workarounds... Find an Alternate Poster that is Suitable or Custom Design one.
    * The Theme will work with the Media Library ON or OFF ...BUT disabling the Media Library will Disable Features / Views and Picture Quality.
    * The Option for "View Backdrop Photos" is only Available if you have gathered the Movie Info via the Hub's Internal Scraper and you have the Media Library ON.
Also, the  "View Backdrop Photos" Option ... i modified it soley for use in "Gallery View" . The Internal Firmware does Not display a Movie Plot / Overview
    whilst in this mode.
I modified it to be an "Overlay" on top the Gallery View.
Using the  "View Backdrop Photos" Option in any other View is not Recommended.
__________________________________________________________________ How to install a Theme {Guide} To install the theme, download the zip file to your PC, open your web browser (I don't recommend using IE8 or IE9, there have been issues), then type your WDTV's IP address to open the Web UI.  (Find your WDTV's IP from Setup > About)  Type in your password (the default is "admin"), click on the box next to "I accept" and then click on LOGIN, then click on "Appearance", then click on "Browse" and navigate to where you saved the "AlaskaDARK_V1.2.zip" file, then click on "Open".  Click on "Submit", then once the Web UI finishes uploading the theme (which will take approx 30 secs), on you WDTV press "Setup" on your remote, select "Appearance", then select "User Interface Themes", select "AlaskaDARK_V1.2" then when prompted select "Apply theme".

  • Time to move on from WD TV Live Hub.

I love my WD TV Live Hub or at least what it could be.  But a few things continually block the experience.-Slow Network Access.  100 Mbit is sooo slow when copying HD media files to the unit.  Average of 8MBps.-Reboots and Re-indexing sometimes when you go to use it. Usually when your not in the mood for the elongated wait.-Generally slow in media menus and apps. (iView in Australia is an example) If WD produced a "new" high speed(processor and ethernet) high quality unit with 2-4TB storage and 4k support. Apps support (Netflix, iView etc) just like the Live-hub. I'd buy it in a flash!. Be happy to spend $300-$400 for something like that.  But it seems they are re-coiling from this market space. In any case, my question to all and the experts in the forum:  What's out there that's good?  There is sooo much 5h1t on the market it's impossible to even know where to start.  What's a quality high speed product with quality firmware support in a new package that can store my existing collection(hord) and be a fast upgrade from where this excelent WDTV Live Hub unit left off? Not Windows Media Centre or Apple TV please.

There are several directions in which to go. Just like anything else, no one way is the wrong way. It is a matter of what do you want, which you have pretty much stated above. Here are some suggestions ALL of which would pretty much involve using Kodi and/or Emby. Take the hard drive out of the Hub, very simple to do. Put it in a PC or connect it to your network. What you want to end up with is 1TB of shared storage and that's about the best you can do with the Hub when you quit using it. Zotac Zboxes are very reasonable and run Windows or can run open elec or a flavor of Linux. Most other mini PCs can do this as well. But Zotac Zbox B1320-U-W2 is my choice because I am most familiar with Windows OS and I can get things done so I can spend more time watching my movies than I do learning a new OS. Oh, and Windows Media Center is NOT even needed or included with the pre-installed Windows 8.1 With Bing. It just is not needed. Android TV boxes are plentifull and right now Nvidia's Shield seems to be the Hot lick. There are tons of these devices available so read, read and read some more about them before you make a decision. It is VERY easy to get one that is a total peice of garbage. See...no mention of anything that starts with an i

  • Turn unused Live Hub into a NAS?

Hi, I have a largely unsused WDTV Live Hub a am using an raspberry pi as my main media player these days. I'd like to turn the Live Hub into a NAS of sorts - it already mounts itslef as a drive on the network but the problem is it doesn't play well with OSX and copying files often fails - seem to be a common issue with newer OSX versions. Anyone have any ideas for running something else on it ie maybe linux version or something other than the custom firmware?

I pulled the drive out of mine and put it in a Zotac Zbox and then shared it. Kodi makes good use of it this way.... Maybe you could do something similar....

  • Imac i7 unable to connect to router at 270mbs on DGN2000

    Hello,
I have a Netgear DGN2000 router and i decided to switch the speed settings from 130Mbs to 270Mbs, but after doing so my imac was unable to connect. I tested my windows based laptop and that was working fine. I switched back to 130Mbs and it connected.
I've checked the Network utility and the Link speed is currently at 54Mbs (not even 130Mbs).
Airport is compatible with Draft N speed but why is my Imac not even connecting to the router when i select 270Mbs, any suggestions?
    Many Thanks

Wireless connection speeds (or lack thereof) are a bit difficult to figure out; for instance: do you have anything else that is using the network which still only works with the earlier slower "g"? Usually the network will only work as fast as the slowest (weakest) link. How far is the iMac from the router and are there any obstacles in between (walls, ceilings, anything metal, appliances, etc). And, who is your ISP, how old are the cables they are using from their hub to your house, is there a splitter?
After almost 2 years of mediocre speeds with Comcast, it was finally determined that a) their cable from the box to the house was defective and replaced and b) they supplied a new splitter. At the same time, I replaced all the Cat5 cables with Cat6 and got a new router (Netgear WNR3500) and haven't had a problem since.

The 3Com wireless router is connected to a broadband

Do you have two routers? That may be your issue. You should only be using one router, or configure one of the routers and turn of DHCP.
