Unable to convert Nikon D810 NEFS to DNG

I am using the latest DNG converter 8.7.1.311 but when I navigate to the source folder of the raw files from the camera they are not recognized.
Has anyone else had luck with this?

Now that is being cheap!!! hahaha You really should upgrade as there are so many improvements including to the raw data conversion. Remember all this stuff is still in it's infancy and much progress is made quickly. Perhaps hold off a wee while until Lr6 is out which should not be too long from all the rumours.
Look how much you spend on the camera and how little to get the best results....

I probably missed this detail in what you’ve posted, but do you see the thumbnails of the three cameras’ raw files in Finder if you don’t convert to DNG?
What has happened in the past is that the Apple raw interpreter doesn’t read thumbnails of DNGs it doesn’t like, where at least one thing it didn’t used to like was embedded lens corrections for mirrorless cameras. Are the Olympus and Panasonic mirrorless—meaning there is no optical viewfinder and everything is seen on an LCD screen or perhaps an electronic view finder? If so the reason these are different is that the camera is doing the lens distortion corrections automatically and this information is stored in the raw files and in the DNGs but Apple doesn’t know how to use these embedded lens corrections or doesn’t know how to read the newer DNG spec that does allow for this information to be embedded in the DNG, at least.
Apple could just extract the embedded jpg preview and ignore the other parts of the file it doesn’t understand, but it apparently doesn’t do this.
What I’m not sure about is if the Apple raw interpreter still has this problem or if you’re on an older system without the latest updates for camera raw decoding by Apple.

How do I set up Premiere Elements 12 to open Nikon D810 NEF, RAW files?

I'm running a Windows 8.1 computer with Premiere Elements 12. New Nikon D810 RAW files will not open in program. Is there a plug-in or other fix for this?

You cannot import Nikon D810 nef files into Premiere Elements 12. For that you need to have Camera Raw at least 8.6 which is supported by Premiere Elements 13. So, if you want to import Nikon D810 nef files into Premiere Elements, you need Premiere Elements 13.
However, if you convert your Nikon D810 nef files into dng files with the DNG 8.6 converter, you can import those dng files into your Premiere Elements 12.

RC 8.6 Issues with Nikon D810 NEF RAW files

RC 8.6 does not correctly process Nikon D810 NEF RAW files. See the following blog article for some details:

This is very helpful. My current workflow, until ACR 8.6 and LR fully support the Nikon D810, are to use the DNG converter and import the resulting D810 DNG files into my LR catalog.
I have not yet tried this (traveling right now), but I assume I can still make a custom profile using the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport and it's associated software for my D810 using the RC 8.6 DNG files. This is my normal workflow for all of my other cameras in LR, but the process is direct from native RAW and not DNG (to produce the custom profile).

Until Lightroom gets D810 support, you will need to use the ACR plugin in order to see the profiles. The DNG Converter always uses Adobe Standard, and embeds it into the DNG. Lightroom 5.5 doesn't have the D810 profiles.

Before I purchased, let me get your thoughts on another option that just occurred to me which involves:
1)Editing my D810 NEF files in LR 5.6, which I have, then exporting/saving the edited files as JPEGs.
2) Doing any additional editing, as necessary (i.e. that might require layering or selections..etc) , with the JPEGs with Bridge or PS CS3.
This method wont involve any additional software purchase now.. right? Am I missing anything. here? Since my final output to my customers are JPEGs any way, wont this work? Will I be at any disadvantage. Am I missing anything. here?

Nikon D810 NEF's Open in ACR But Not PS CS6

I just installed ACR 8.7.1 and can view and adjust Nikon D810 NEF files but when I press "OPEN" (from ACR) to begin work in PS CS6 they will not open. CS6 does launch but I dont see the NEF file. My Canon CR2 and Fuji RAF files open fine in in CS6. Any ideas?

Which operating system are you using? = OSX 10.8.6
Your using camera raw in Bridge CS6? = Yes
What happens if you use File>Open in photoshop cs6? = Rebooted my Mac and all is well.

The Nikon Transfer that came with your camera should be ok, but if you’re using an older one, then it can change things in the raw files’ metadata that makes them unrecognizable to Adobe software.
There is a utility for fixing any NEFs corrupted by Nikon Transfer:

D810 NEF (small) files converted by DNG Comverter 8.6 is not recognised by Lightroom 5.5 or CameraRaw 8.6. The normal NEF files are visible after conversion. Is there a way out to get the converted DNGs read in LR or ACR?

No there is not, but as of yesterday, Adobe knows that the 9MP small-raw files don’t work and will likely fix in the final release. Until then you need to shoot full-res 36MP images.

Which version of photoshop and operating system are you using?
If your using photoshop cs6, cc or cc 2014, then Help>Updates from within photoshop should get you camera raw 8.6, which should enable photoshop to open the nikon D810 files.

Finder not displaying thumbnail for Nikon D810 NEF files

Hi all,
I went out and bought the D810 upon it's release the other day and shot a wedding with it yesterday, however I've come to transfer the files over to my iMac this morning but finder isn't loading up a thumbnail of the shots.
I assume this is an issue with the new NEF file type for the D810 (I had a similar issue with Photoshop CS5.1, so now have to bite the bullet and upgrade to PS CC!), but is there an update to allow Finder to show the files?
I read somewhere that an update when the D800 was released was pushed through the latest version of iPhoto. I appear to have the latest version of iPhoto though, so wouldn't appear to be the same for the D810! (That said, I can view the photos in iPhoto but I prefer using Finder!)
Do you think Apple is likely to release an update for this issue any time soon?

Support for new cameras is never retrospectively added to older versions of Lightroom.
Your other (free) option is to download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all D810 Raw files to DNG format then import the DNGs into Lightroom 4

Nikon 5700 NEF and DNG

Does iPhoto '08 import DNG photos?
I've tried converting some Nikon 5700 NEFs converted to dng by either Lightroom or Adobe Converter, but get the unsupported format dialog. Odd that it attempts to import and then warns you, rather than telling you right away that it won't accept the files.

i think the problem is not all with aperture but in Mac OS X. try opening the nikon 5700 nef file with Preview and you'll see. my brother has a nikon 5700 and he had no problems opening nikon 5700 nef file on mac os x prior to 10.4.(?) running on a third-party upgraded powerbook (the wall street). he finally bought a new mac and this is when all his nikon 5700 nef files became incompatible. so something happened during the series of Mac OS X upates that broke the support for the nikon 5700 nef file.
i suggest that you also submit a feedback requesting support for the nikon 5700 nef file.
ps: they do listen, just be patient.

Photoshop unable to open Nikon D610 NEF files

I'm using Mac Os 10.6 and photoshop cs6 is unable to open NEF (RAW) files.
I've tryed updating it and also tryed Adobe DNG Converter but the version that runs on Mac Os 10.6 is unable to convert the NEF images. Is there any Cs6 uptdate coming?

Followed your suggestion and asked in the Adobe Camera Raw.
