Unable to Copy from my Mac to my external drive? Can you help!

Hi,
I am a Ex-Windows user who has just invested in a Mac and as you can imagine my knowledge is very limited so im looking for a little help please!
When i connect my Maxtor 350gb external hard drive to my Macbook via its USB lead it appears on the desktop as you would expect but if i try to drag and drop and sort of file onto it i get the following message...
the item "file name" could not be moved because "External HD" cannot be modified
Can someone advise me as to how i can resolve this issue please.

Hi Tom,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
How did you format that external drive? Open disk utility and select the external drive in the sidebar. Now read what is written in the bottom part of the window. It will say something like "partition-scheme" and when you select the volume it should say something about the "Format".
There are Windows formats and partition schemes that can be read by MacOS X but are read-only. In this case you will have to reformat the drive.

I purchased a copy of “The Complete English Poems” by John Donne as an e-book, I downloaded the e-book successfully, as well as the new Digital Editions software and transferred the e-book to my Sony Reader. However when I try to use the book it is slow opening up and very slow moving between sections, or navigating between the poem and the notes on the poems, typically between three and five minutes. In practice this means that if I wish to consult a note on a poem it can take five minutes to move from the poem to the note then another five minutes to navigate back, giving a time of ten minutes to consult a note. This is not really feasible.
I have had no problem downloading and reading other books, from Waterstones bought after the John Donne.
I have tried deleting and re-loading the John Donne, as well as resetting the reader to no avail.
I contacted Sony support who says that as my other e-books from Waterstones and other sources work perfectly, then the fault lies with “The Complete English Poems” and not the Sony reader.
Please note that I had a similar problem with a Waterstones edition of “the King James Version of The Holy Bible. “ This problem was never resolved.

Add or remove automatic items

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.

Another thing to try - Turn the iPad Off & then back ON.
If that doesn't work:
• Log out of your iTunes store account. Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
• Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
• After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

Moving to a Mac - I'm Ready! - Can you Help?

I'm getting my new iMac later this week. I'm leaving Windows behind, and I'm trying my best to make sure I don't leave anything important behind and that I make the migration as seemless as possible. So, can anyone assist me in a detailed step-by-step manner? Also, once I'm on the Mac I want to make sure LR is run as optimally as possible. In that regard, can you assist me with the eventual setup.
Currently, I have LR 2, (not 2.3 as it makes no sense to upgrade before moving). My photos - approx 7500 - reside on my C Drive in a heirarchal folder system, such as . . . My Files > Photos > Personal > Family > Vacations > Europe, etc. There is an identical backup structure on my external 320GB drive.
Since I won't be dealing with lettered drives, will there still be someplace where I could see the same folder/file structure, on my Mac? My LR catalog backups are saved in my external drive in a folder called Backups (backups from other programs are there as well.) I'm not quite sure where Adobe put my catalog, but I could find it.
Of course, I want to carry over any tags and keywords I have and all of the metadata for the photos I've edited. What should I do to prepare the move (copy any files to the external, or perhaps a CD?) BTW, should I load the Mac version of LR before I copy the files or after? I'll also have PSE 6 or 7, depending on what Adobe will do for me in terms of going cross platform and reducing my costs. I don't think I'll be using iPhoto at all.
Once I have everything up and running, what is the best configuration for LR and Time Machine? I intend on using a new 500GB external for the main backup and my current 320 will be for additional backup? I understand that Time Machine does not work well if the backup comes while you're editing. So, I know some people exclude LR from automatic backups. What is an optimum setup for LR with my two external drives? (I think they may be able to be Daisy Chained, or perhaps one a firewire (the 500GB) and one a USB) Along with my setup, what would be the best method of importing? Currently I import to a folder and then once the photos are on my computer I have LR inport them. I don't do a backup yet. I backup after I've culled the photos. Somehow, I don't think that's the best process if I have a reliable backup system like Time Machine and two external drives.
I hope that's not too much to throw at you, or too mundane, or repetitive. I know there have been similar threads, but I've never seen step by step instructions.

revert back to Maverick that is what I had to finally do. This was the worst upgrade I have ever seen. Hopefully you have Time Machine backup and can revert back. It was pretty painless except for a few issues. I will wait until Apple gets their stuff together on this upgrade or may never will.

Can I copy my itunes library from my mac onto an external drive and then use that drive with a Vista PC?

I have 560 gb of music in my itunes library which I access via MacBook. Can I copy that library onto an external hard drive and plug it into a PC running Vista Basic to use with iTunes on the PC?

You can treat the TC as any other disk.
Although windows can have issues. Tell us if you have access issues.

I seem to have had my CS6 locked out by a copy of CC that I did not request. can you help to resolve it so I get my CS6 back please

A month ago I started getting messages when I opened CS6 asking me to continue a trial of Photoshop CC I had not requested this. It seems that it may have come down via an update.
Today I cannot open CS6 and get the message from CC to buy the product which I do not want.
Is there any way of getting back to my installation of CS6.

Paul cb. I get the same error message (9), which relates to an apparent dropping of the USB connection. I have now tried 3 different usb cables on 2 different mac's, same result.
Reading as much as I can understand, there appears to be a dependance on an SHSH signature file. I have never Jailbroken any of my apple hardware, but there is much information that can be gleaned from the associated writings.
I am not a genius my any means, but it appears as though (iMhO) that somehow the files (or some of them) on the iPad have become corrupted and the all important SHSH file is not there. This causes iTunes to have no reference point for restoring the iPad. Also, it is not possible to force a new firmware (Option click restore in itunes) without an SHSH file, this results in an error that says that the iPad is not eligible for this version ... or something like that.
MY problem is that in Dubai we do not have an Apple Genius bar and that you guys and gals are the closest I will get to an Apple Genius. The iPad was purchased for me in the States when my daughter was visting there so, I am pretty much sitting on a brick right now ... (my wife has annexed my iPad 2 until I can fix her iPad 1 .... sighs).
Unless there are any other tactics that you guys can suggest (without Jailbreaking) then I think I may be at the end of the road ..

Audio is missing when I export longer mp4s from After Effects File via AME. Can you help?

I’m using After Effects to colour correct and add some titles to long .mov files. (typically 45 mins to 1.5 hours in length).
I am then rendering out to the Vimeo 720 25 preset (.mp4s with h.264) using AME.
The problem occurs when I try to render out larger compositions (anything over an hour).
I start to get audio issues, such as no audio, glitchy audio or audio that only starts after 40 minutes for example.
The shorter compositions work fine. And RAM previews always work fine.
(I’m using Creative Cloud on an iMac running Mountain Lion.)
Has anybody experienced this bug, or know a way to fix it?

I tried to reproduce this issue by adding a shape and a table in Publisher, export it as an index.htm file, copy and paste the HTML code which in the <head>
tag and <body> tag only.
It turns out that the original design is gone.
When digging into the HTML code, I found that the HTML code from Publisher might not be compatible with SharePoint page.
For example, a shape which is added in Publisher, the corresponding HTML code would be something like:

src="index_files/image296.png" v:shapes="_x0000_s1026"></span>
We can see that, the value “src” attribute of the <img> tag represents a relative path which can’t be found in the existing SharePoint site structure, it means
that the shape will not appear in SharePoint page.

As a common practice, I would suggest you create a new HTML file using Visual Studio or SharePoint Designer and examine the design in browser during the development,
it would be easier to compose a valid and browser-compatible HTML file.

IPhoto '09 Restore from Time Machine... pictures missing, can you help?

I decided to restore an older iPhoto Library (from 2 days ago), and my most recent imports (span of time of a month) have disappeared. The events show up in the Library, but when I click on it, only gray boxes appear... no photos.
Does anyone have a solution to get the photos back? I thought that this was the purpose of having the Time Machine... to be able to restore old files and (in this case) libraries.
