Unable to correct permissions in M.L.

I am receiving several permissions corrections for the iTunes directory stating the files should be a directory. Below is an example of a few reported entries after performing a permissions repair.
Permissions differ on "Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/AACEncoderConfig.nib" ; should be drwxr-xr-x ; they are -rwxr-xr-x

Why is this occurring? When I first installed Mountain Lion this did not occur

DU can't fix those kinds of things because the bom file says they should be directories but are in fact files. According to http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448, you can ignore such aberations.

Please Help, I deleted an account that was the same name as the administrator but was not the administrator. Also a samsung galaxy s phone was charging through the usb port.

Ran Disk Utility Repair Permissions resulting in multiple errors:

Ran Repair Disk, result:

Next I attempted to erase the dist to start from scratch since I have data backed up on time machine.
Error message box

Could not unmount disk
I am looking to solve without buying DiskWarrior unless only resort.

So it looks like solved it for now I will update later. What I did was after starting from the install cd for the 10.6 system I ran from terminal ran:
diskutil disablejournaling /dev/disk0s2
diskutil disableownership /dev/disk0s2
diskutil repairPermissions /dev/disk0s2
then i closed terminal and then when to disk utility and chose to repair disk with results all was fine. Then ran repair permissions and got similar results from terminal function next I erased disk and then chose to restore from time machine and it is now restoring! yea!

Depending on the system version, and Office Word version:
- a pure URL link starting with http or even www sometimes works in PDF, either produced by Aperçu or Adobe, sometimes does not work;
- other kind of links where the text under display is not a URL, never work!
I like everything with Apple computers and software, except PDF generation. Output files are usually bigger in size, and no better quality, than under Windows. Furthermore, it is weird that something as common as hyperlinks does not work correctly!
I related this question with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, but the problem is still there with Mac OS Lion.
This problem seems to have been around for years, without any proper solution from Apple and/or Adobe! To me, this is very embarrassing!

If I understand the problem correctly (I’m not sure I do) you would prefer ‘iii’ to be read as “eye eye eye” rather than “three”? The alt text property is the only way that I know of to make this happen. Hope this helps.

Per-service SID's are not being granted correct permissions

When installing SQL 2012 (on a VMWare VM), based on the following article :
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504(v=sql.110), I have noticed that the SQL per service SIDs are not being granted the correct permissions. From the initial install, the following is what was observed (the red x's being permissions that
should have been granted but were not).
When re-installing and changing from specifying a domain account, to the default values, during set-up, the 4 service SIDs that were not added to 'Log on as a Service' initially were then correctly granted permission, but the other 4 in 'Bypass traverse
checking', 'Adjust Memory Quotas for a process' and 'Impersonate a Client after authentication' were still not added.
When running a repair on this install, 'NT Service\MSSQLFDLauncher' was then granted the correct permissions, but 'NT SERVICE\MsDtsServer110' was still missing 'Bypass traverse checking' and 'Impersonate a Client after authentication'.
This also resulted in the installation of Reporting Services - Native failing in the original installation with 'Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation'.
If anyone has recently installed SQL 2012, can you check (via gpedit.msc) that the correct 'User Right Assignment' was granted to the per Service SIDs as per

Have you resolved this yet? Group policy for the OU with my desktop removes all SQL per-service rights. If group policy is your issue, I'd be interested in how some are retained.

Dreamweaver CC won't install past 82%. It says - Error DF024. Try Setting correct permissions to the specified file/folder or parent folder so that administrator has rights to modify it.(seq170) How do I do this in Windows7?

I'm unable to correct a wrong url for my home page in Firefox

I'm unable to correct a wrong url for my home page and have to manually use a separate bookmark that works once the home page loads. I use 3 url's total for the home page and the other 2 load properly.
I've searched for the incorrect url and find it in 'about:config at browser.startup.homepage'. I've made the correction to the url but it does not seem to save when I close out of about:config.
I've reset the home page under Tools and Options many, many times and it still doesn't change what is in
'about:config at browser.startup.homepage
I have been able to save the bookmark with the correct url in other folders.
I've had this problem for quite awhile, at least 8 months or so and keep FF up to date, currently using V33.0.2 and Win7 Home Premium SP1

I changed the pref.js file and that fixed the problem. thanks to those who responded to this question and for the quick replies. jjg18

HTML5 UI is unable to correctly get the information of key-events .

I have developed a plug-in for Illustrator CC2014.
But, The Plug-in UI which was built with HTML5, is unable to correctly get the information of key-events .
As problems following.
    0-9 key press       ： "keyCode" is "0"
    Shift key press     ： "shiftKey"is "false"
    Alt key press        ： "altKey"is"false"
Even if acquired at any timing（keydown, keypress, keyup） symptom occurs.
In the Windows, you can get the information of key-events is correct at the same implementation.
In the case of the browser UI, even in the Mac, I can correctly get.
What causes that can not be acquired key event information is correct on the plug-in?
Also, If you have any way to get the information of key-events correctly, please let me know.

Sudo fails even with seeming correct permissions?

When I try to sudo from Terminal, I get:

sudo: unable to stat /etc/sudoers: Permission denied
sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting
However, I can cat /etc/sudoers and see the content of the file. I'm a member of the admin group.

Valid is not the same as a file exists. The /etc/sudoers file needs to be correct format and permissions.

What tool did you use to modify /etc/sudoers ?
You are suppose to use /usr/sbin/visudo to edit the /etc/sudoers file which will validate the results before saving the updated version. See "man visudo".
While I am still using Mavericks, chances are the /etc/sudoers file still looks the same, so here is what my unmodified /etc/sudoers file looks like:

OS X web server folder in Dropbox folder: correct permissions?

Hello,
I have purchased & installed OS X server. I want to run a local web server test environment, using static HTML and PHP pages.
Everyone on the (W)LAN should be able to access the test site served from this machine.
I do not want/need outside access to the LAN/server.
As a logged-in admin, I need to be able to access the files in the server directory.
The folder I'm serving the site from ("site") is a subfolder of my Dropbox folder: /users/MYACCOUNT/Dropbox/work/site/ . Dropbox (the application / service) should be able to uplad/sync the files in /work/site/, so I can e.g. see and edit them on an iOS device.
I cannot figure out how to set the access permissions correctly. Here's what I tried:
OS X Server (2.2.1) is running.
Server's Websites service is running and configured to use the "site" folder.
Looking at the Account list in OS X Server, I see that there is a user "World Wide Web Server" ("_www"), but it is disabled and doesn't belong to any group.
I changed the owner of "site" to "_www".
I tried changing access privileges to "site" for "Everyone" to Read, then to Write, then to No Access.
Yet all I get when I try to access the site is "403: forbidden".
The web server error log has many "Permission denied: /Users/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable" entries. There is no ".htaccess" files in "/Users/", and I don't understand why the web server would even look there.
What am I doing wrong?
Do I need to set privileges for the parent folders of "site", too?
And once I have figured out/set correct privileges for the "site" folder - do I have to apply it recursively to all files and subfolders in it?

thank you - you pointed me in the right direction. The problem wasn't strictly Dropbox-related.
Obviously, the web server ("_www") really needs to see a .htaccess file in /Users/ to be happy. And as "_www" doesn't belong to the "Admins" Group, I had to change the permissions for /Users/ to 755 so it could access /Users/.htaccess (see here: http://wiki.apache.org/httpd/PcfgOpenfile ).
After that, I moved the actual website folder to /users/USER/Dropbox/somewhere/else/ . However, all folders and files I want to serve now need the same permission (755).
I don't think this approach is safe. It means that everyone on my local network now can go down that particular folder path and see/execute whatever is there, right?
What's a better approach so that only I and the web server can access these files? Should I add user "_www" to group "staff", so I can switch off access for everyone else?

Unable to change permissions on external drive.

I have an external Firewire drive attached to my PowerMac G5 running 10.5.5. Until the past few days I have been easily accessing (reading and writing) all areas of this drive from my standard non-admin user account since I have the "Ignore ownership on this volume" box checked in the get-info dialogue.
Recently however I have been unable to write to this drive from my non-admin account. When I go to the get-info dialogue, the "Ignore ownership on this volume" box is still checked but that doesn't seem to matter.
I am unable to click on the little padlock icon to change any permissions for any file on this partition (the other partition of this drive is being used by Time Machine, and does not seem to have the "Ignore ownership on this volume" box, and I am able to click on the padlock to make changes).
Any idea what is going on?

I am having a similar problem, but I cannot unlock the drive - as there is no lock icon .The drive is one I bought at Best Buy, and is formatted FAT32. I cannot see anywhere to unlock the drive since I moved to SL. It worked fine before I did the conversion. My other drives (I have 5 total) allow me to read and write, but the problem drive is set to read-only. Any suggestions? The specifics in info are: Kind: Volume, Modified: Yesterday..., Format: MS_DOS (FAT32), Capacity: 319.99 GB, Available: 106.48 GB, etc... Shared Folder is unchecked. Sharing and Permissions says "You can only read"

Allow other users to create subfolders in Public w/ correct permissions?

I have a Public sub-folder called "Shared" which is set with permissions Everyone: Read & Write. Everyone in my workgroup should be able to have full access control to content in this folder.
This works great, except when someone else creates a subfolder, so that there is a structure like:
Public > Shared > Widgets
If I create the Widgets folder and save a document into it, it has the correctly propagated permissions (Everyone: Read & Write). However, if someone else in my workgroup creates the Widgets folder and saves a document into it, it has incorrectly propagated permissions (Everyone: Read Only).
Is there a way to adjust my settings so that Read & Write applies not only to documents within "Shared", but to any subfolders that "everyone" creates?

Leopard Not Seeing Correct Permissions on Files on Leopard Server

File on OS X 10.4 server has the following permissions:
owner abc read & write
group abc read & write
everyone read only
If I connect to the server via AFP from a client running OS X 10.4 with user xyz that's in group abc, that client shows these permissions correctly (via Finder get info).
If I connect to the server via AFP from a client running OS X 10.5 with user xyz that's in group abc, the client shows the following permissions (via Finder get info):
You have custom access
(unknown) read & Write
staff read only
everyone read only
If I disable ACLs on the OS X 10.5 client (fsaclctl -d), it shows the same permissions as the OS X 10.4 client.
I verified that the file on the server does not have an ACLs attached.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening? Thanks!

Hi - for anyone to help you, you'll need to tell us:
• what version of system software is your server running?
• You say you have to change permissions - is this when you try to upload? Is this when you try to open the file on the laptop - or when you try to open the file on the server itself?

What are the correct permissions for the Home folder?

Since buying my first mac (G4 iMac) I've since bought 2 other macs & transferred my home folder from the older computer each time. Since then I've messed around with the permissions of the Home folder a few times to try share files & folders between my Windows PCs. So the permissions of the Home folder on all computers could be messed up a little.
I want to set up permissions how they should be set up as default.
I created another user account with admin priveliges & it looks like the Home folder should be set up as follows:
Owner: 'my name'
Access: Read & Write
Group: admin or 'my name'
Access: Read only
Others: Read only
And the sub folders (Documents, Pictures etc.) should be set up as follows:
Owner: 'my name'
Access: Read & Write
Group: admin or 'my name'
Access: No access
Others: No accesss
Is this correct, & if so shall I just set permissions on my Home folder exactly the same as the new account I set up?
Or is there some way of resetting permissions for the Home folder?
(I know repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't do this).

Mac OS X does not have a built-in way of doing this, but you can make one yourself. Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and enter the following:
