Unable to create a pdf in Acrobat 7.0.9

After installing a security patch last night I have not been able to create a pdf. When I attempt to do so I get the following message:

If you are trying to print to the Adobe PDF printer and that fails, try using print-to-file. Then open the file in Distiller. If the result is the desired PDF, then check for AcroTray running as a background application. Sometimes it has to be restarted, but should be in your startup (you can check msconfig from the start>run menu to see if AcroTray is there).

I used to be able to create a PDF using Acrobat 7.0 from a Visio drawing in XP. Now I'm running a 64-bit system, no Adobe printer can be installed, and it is unsupported. Help?

On a 32-bit system, there is a workaround. I do not think it is possible to get AA7 to work on a 64-bit system (no one has reported success and only 1 has suggested success with AA8). You may be able to print to a PS file and then open that in Distiller. I suspect that is the only way and you will have to find a decent PS printer driver to do it. I suspect the printer driver (and associated AcroTray) will not work in a 64-bit Win8 -- Acrobat and Distiller may.

Master your content in a text editor (Notepad), a word processor (Word), a page layout application (InDesign) or some application that you do a "File | Print" with. Print to the Adobe PDF virtual printer that is installed with the install of Acrobat (any version). You'll have a seachable PDF. If a PDF has page content that is the image of text (the output of a scanner) use Acrobat's OCR feature to obtain searchable content.

When creating a PDF in Acrobat Pro it seems to change my reference numbering system???

I am trying to create a PDF file using Acrobat Pro trial version (before I buy it I need to know if it works for me). The file I am using is a condensed version of a report so it has some of the tables/figures omitted and therefore the numbering sequence isn't sequential ie. it can jump from Figure 9-2 to 9-4. For some reason - when creating the PDF - the program is CHANGING the numbering system of the original file in the body of the document - but the Table of Contents keeps it how I had it. HELP??!!! How do I make it just create the PDF exactly how it is in the Word document file without automatically making any changes like that to it?!
I have tried several ways to create the PDF - in Word - I tried doing it as a Print command, also in Word I tried doing it from there, also I tried creating it from a file right in Acrobat Pro. I also tried "protecting" the document first - but this didn't work either.

You might want to specify what kind of graphics are giving you problems.
Frame drawings or imported files? If imported, what file type? RGB or
CMYK? Any spot colors?
The best graphics are EPS because FrameMaker passes them around the
Windows GDI unchanged and EPS files can retain spot colors, too. Other
types of graphics get passed through Windows GDI and converted to RGB
where the result can sometimes be astounding. In Save as PDF, what's the
setting for "Convert CMYK colors to RGB?"
Check also "GetLibraryColorRGBFromCMYK=" in maker.ini and change it from
"Printing" to
"None". That seems to get the best results for having what you see on
screen match what ends up in the PDF.
There are also color management settings in your Distiller .joboptions
file that can affect the result. Usually, you want to set Settings>Edit
Adobe PDF Settings> Color> Color Management Policies to either "Leave
Color Unchanged" or "Tag only Images for Color Management."

I have Adobe Acrobat 8 prof which came bundled with ScanSnap.
I am using a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.8.
I have been trying to 'Create pdf from file'.
Adobe won't load an RTF file, a Pages file or a Word file.
It tells me to use the source application and print with Adobe PDF. When I try to do this I get the message

You need to install software to use this printer. To install the software, choose Software Update from the Apple menu. If the software for your printer isn’t available in Software Update, contact the manufacturer of your printer.
I have tried software update but Apple has not supplied an update for the Adobe printer.

Books are designed for and printed on 8.5 x 11 inch stock, US Letter size. You shouldn't have to select any size. While viewing the All Pages mode in the book Control-Click on the page and select Save Book as PDF from the contextual menu.
That will create a PDF that iPhoto uses to upload and print. Not all pages will be the same size as the dust jacket will be present in it's full size, 32.8 inches x 8.91 inches:
If you want a PDF that's designed for your own printing the type Command+P while viewing the All Pages window. In the first print window click on the PDF button. It will present you with a contextual menu where you should select Save as PDF. That will give you an 8.5 x 11 PDF file with all pages the same size.

Unable to create a PDF from Word or from Clipboard coming from Word

Until a few days ago, I had no problem creating a PDF file from a Word document, or from a Word-generated clipboard item. Now this does not work anymore. I have entirely re-installed Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (successfully), but I still cannot create the PDF coming from the above sources. I now also (sometimes) have the same issue when a clipboard item comes from Excel. No problem with any other source data, i.e. PowerPoint, Web pages, etc.

Answering "Yes" goes through a lengthy process (successfully), but still does not create my PDF. Both my Word and Excel programs are Microsoft 2007 Professional.
Any suggestions?

No updates recently - except possibly whatever Microsoft updates automatically (security, etc.).
What is quite strange is this specific isolated instance:
If I am in a Word document, then highlight and select (Ctrl C) a range of text, then go to Acrobat 9 Pro and try to create a PDF from that clipboard text, I get the above error. However, if I select text from another program, such as a web page, then Acrobat does not complain when I try to create a PDF from the clipboard, and everything proceeds as expected.
So that makes one think that the issue is with Word; however, I sometimes (and "sometimes" is the operative word) get the error when taking text from Excel. But sometimes not.
Is it Microsoft? But that is strange, as all this worked a few days ago - specifically on Friday 9/3. I use this feature daily,
And, as I mentioned before, trying to create a PDF from an entire Word file also does not work (create from File).

Unable to create Adobe PDF

I have started receiving failures when trying to make PDF files. The failure I receive say"Unable to find Adobe PDF resource files. Do you want to run the installer in repair mode? Y/N" This condition has just started. I have uninstalled/re-installed my Adobe program and have tried the repair option. Anyone have any suggestions? I just created a PDF in Acrobat but when those I sent it to who open it in Reader are unable to save

it completed and can only save it blank. How can I fix this?

If they are using Reader X or below, you need to enable the form using Acrobat first. How depends on your version of Acrobat. Use the Acrobat forum for more information on that.
That being said, as long as it contains fillable form fields, users can save it using Adobe Reader XI.

How to create interactive PDF in Acrobat Pro 11 from Indesign 6 on a Mac and keep all interactivity?

I've seen much discussion on this topic or issue.
I have a 175 page doucment that needs an active TOC, urls that link, buttons that "go back to TOC" on each page and "to next page - to previous page". You can only see the functions properly in Acrobat Reader.
What's up with that? That doesn't work for my deverse client base.
Is it because this was a file originally created in ID 5? I ask because I have since created a new file, exactly the same way with the same interactive attributes as the file that doesn't work and it works fine.
Is my file too many pages for Acrobat to handle?

What you're asking for is perfectly achievable, but it won't work universally. The page count is immaterial.
Table of Contents entries created in InDesign are automatically converted into links when exported to PDF, provided the hyperlinks option on the PDF export dialog has been checked. They should work fine in any desktop software.
Buttons which link to a fixed page and 'next page/previous page' buttons created in InDesign will use a link method that requires JavaScript - this is fully-supported in the Acrobat Family on desktop platforms, but third-party renderers such as Firefox's internal viewer, and mobile PDF apps, have little or no support for scripting.

Acrobat hangs while creating merged PDF in acrobat 9.0

Hello, We are facing issue with Acrobat 9.0 while combining MS office docs with PDF ( option of Merge files into single pdf). Whenever we combine word or excel docs with pdf, Acrobat hangs. Acrobat has to be terminated to clear the session.
The option of combine files was working fine in our environment. ( combining office files into PDF )
Would appreciate any sort help with this issue.

I think this is related to this other problem: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/567165?tstart=-1 . This has appeared with current releases of Acrobat, Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader. Adobe seems unresponsive. We started seeing it this week in conjunction with Excelsius 4.5. I have both Acrobat Pro 9.3 and Acrobat Reader 8 on my PC. Pro blows up when I open the .pdf created by Excelsius, but Reader does fine.

Why do I have to pay to create a PDF in Acrobat X Pro when I have owned it for quite awhile?

I have been needing to create a portfolio with my designs and I need numerous files to make one PDF. I know how to do it, but apparently, I have to pay now. I NEVER had to pay a few years ago, and when I actually need this, I have to fork out money when I have already spent it on the software. Is there a solution to for this, or do I have submit and pay for my existing software?

But, if you are still getting the message that you need to pay then
1. Check the app you are running. It probably isn't Acrobat. Could be Adobe Reader.
2. If it's Acrobat please let us see a screen shot (DON'T email it!)

Unable to edit received PDF with Acrobat 9.3

I have been unable to edit PDF files for some time. I have Acrobat 9.3 and am wondering if I need to purchase the program or is there someithing I can do
to make changes? I have checked the security settings on this particular file and they are:

How very frustrating. I'm not aware of any system outages. Have you tried signing out, and then signing back in? I would also suggest that you clear your browser cache. Are you using the same web browser as you were when you able to convert without issue?

Unable to create PDF from website

I am suddenly unable to create a PDF in Acrobat 9 Pro from a website without a gray overlay and an error message telling me the browser needs to be updated. I'm attaching a pic of the error. Is there a way to update the browser in Acrobat? I have installed all available updates for my Acrobat version I can find. I have also updated IE and receive the same error.

The best I can tell is that it deals with Acrobat using an IE type interface. It did not have the background problem with AA8, but indeed it showed up in AA9. I do not have AAX to test that. Your options are to use PDF Maker from IE or other browser. From IE it worked without the background issue. The layout was different, but some scaling and such might resolve that issue. Printing seems to offer a better view. You likely only need a print, so I would suggest using the print function in your browser. The HTML of the site seems to recommend using a different browser than IE, so you might try FireFox.
