Unable to create global variant for BEx query

Good Day BI Experts.
I would like to be able to provide some of my power users with the ability to create global variants to BEx queries executed using Analyzer. When they try to save a global variant now, they receive the message "You are not authorized to create variant name". Is there a generic role that can be assigned to the user for this? Or perhaps a PFCG setting to an existing role? I'm rather new at this, so details would be appreciated.

Hi.
Your users need to have create and change access for auth object S_RS_PARAM to create variants.
You can enforce a naming convention by maintaining the values of "tech name of variant" like Z*, according to your needs.

P.S:
If you have a general role for report users, add the auth object to that one in PFCG if it's not already there. In the latter case, you might have to change the values, to let your users maitain things...

How to create process variant for delete index in a process chain

I am creating a process chain, but unable to create process variant for the delete index. kindly tell me the
step by step proceure for creating the variant for delete index. also if we use variant which is previously prepared then will it be safe? will it affect the other running process chian.

Hi,
Please do not use an already created variant for index deletion. It might delete indices of some other cube.
You can follow the following steps -
1. Open the chain in Edit mode and click on "Process Types" button
2. On the Left hand side you will have various process types. Choose "Data Target Administration" and expand it.
3. Choose the first process "Delete Index" (it will be marked with a trash bin sign) and drag it to your chain
4. It will ask you create a variant. Press the create Button
5. In new window enter the Process Variant technical name and description
6. Then in new window choose Object Type = Cube through dropdown and Object name via browsing. After choosing the cube name click on "Transfer Selections"
7. Save and return to your chain
8. It will automatically generate a create index step also after delete index.
9. You need to break the link between create and delete step and insert infopackage in between to get the following steps - delete index --> load cube --> create index.

Global Variant for Query

I am on BI7.
In Query Designer, I have created a Variable for each of the Characteristic on my query.
when I run the query, I can now enter the parameter for each of this Characteristic and Save it as Variant.
When I run the query again, I can select this Variant. No problem, working fine.
However, when my colleague run this query, he/she can't see this variant.
How can we create Global Variant so that all user can use it?
Please help, thank you.

Hi Linda
You need to go to RSRT to create your variant (click 'Query Variants' then the Create button, enter name and description, then enter the selection criteria, then Save)
Then all users can see this variant, along with their own local ones.

Variant for Control Query on Bex Broadcaster Filter

I am trying to create a Bex Broadcaster setting on a query via query designer (query -->Publish --> Bex Broadcaster). In the Filter Navigation Tab, I want include a filter using a control query with variants. My control query has a variable that is set to (single value, mandatory,manual input) and i created a variant for the control query on the web. I am able to create the Bex Broadcaster setting and enter my control query but when I go enter the variant it always gives me "No selections available".
Another issue that i am having is - when I try to create a filter on a characterisitc in the Bex Broadcaster and give mulitple values in the filter, it ends up generating seperate excel files (distribution type is e-mail) for each value in the filter. Is there any way i can consolidate all these results and get it to generate on single file?

1st : no wanswer by now.
2nd : don't filter in the Broadcastsetting, filter in the Broadcastquery to avoid a broadcast for every filter value.

What is typical for amount of users that create global variants

hello all,
what is everyone's experience in how many users they give authorization to create global variants? I'm assuming if to many people the variant list can become quite big.
just thoughts on experience would be nice. thanks

In our case, specific power users have been identified and they are the only one's outside of the BW development team that have the capability of creating global variants. These power users typically create global variants that correspond to authorizations in BW. For example, 0PLANT is an authorization-relevant Characteristic. People associated to one plant can't see another plant, but Finance can see all plants. So, the power user would create the global variants as one for each plant. Finance people leave this wide open (if not mandatory).
We have ~5K report users and there are <30 power users if that helps with a percentage.

Variant for a query in Web

In my query I had a User entry Variable (Multiple Single Values) on 0DEPARTMENT.
I had give a list of 2000 departments in a excel file.
When I execute a query in WEB (7X Template) my requirement is to create a Variant so that if selected all the 2000 departments are included
How can I paste all the 2000 values in the variable screen and save it as a variant

Hi,
For this you will need to create variant for the query in RSRT transaction. Just goto RSRT transaction. Provide the query name and click on Query Variants button. You will get a n option to create variant for the query. paste all the 2000 values for that particular variable of the query and save it as variant.
Now when you will execute the query in the web you will get an option to select that variant from the query.

Follow these steps..
1. in SE38 enter Program name 'RSEIDOCB'.
2. Click on variants button
3. enter variant name click on create
4. in selection screen enter default values
5. Click on attributes
4. Enter meaning
5. Press Shft + F4
6. Bottom of Screen will popup invisible fields
7. go down to screen
8. select field and click on selection variables button
   (you to have to tick selection variable check box)
9. here click on down arrow button very next to field
10.you can choose values from list and assign to field.
then save variant.

Problem while creating transaction variant for transaction KCH1.

I am trying to create transaction variant for KCH1 transaction code.
I am able to deactivate standard navigation options Change, Copy, Delete for the menu called "Group" in the main screen.
But I am unable to disable the standard navigation options for the menu u201CGroupu201D in the second screen where we enter possible profit center values in hierarchal structure. I want to deactivate u201COther Groupu201D , u201CChangeu201D and u201CCopyu201D In the hierarchy screen.
Please advice.

As I have already mentioned in my previous message, I am able to deactivate standard menu options by using Menu functions for Main screen where we provide Profit center group value which needs to be created. For this screen I have passed GUID START_CO and was able to deactivate required options. But for the Hirarchial screen, I am unable to deactivate some of the menu options. In menu functions I have passed LIST_01(GUID for the screen) and deactivated the options but was not reflecting which testing the transaction variant.
Anyone please let me know if transaction variant work for my scenario. If no please suggest a solution.

BW Accelerator for BEx query to be used in polestar

I'm using a Bex query in polestar after creating BWA Index.
The BEX query is suitable for Business Objects after checking it in the program RSR_QPROV_CHECK(which beomes infocube)
But the F-Table of the query is not Indexed and it ends dump after longtime, when activated in t-code RSDDTPS.
The BWA index is not created for the F-table of the query (which will be created as a Flat Table)
The error message i get in Business Objects is "2007:Error creating physical plan: Index does not exist;index=Query name in cube: query name_ps,scripted search: function 'ps_gnav_highlight.searchGN_v2' "

Thanks for your response but I am looking at Query indexing and not indexing the Cube.
Still the data is huge and I get errors hence need to know if Delta indexing is possible in case of Query (snapshot) indexing. you may look at transaction RSDDV -> Explorer (button on top along with BIA).

It seems saaj-impl.jar (in case of Sun One Server) or the jar which contains implementationof SAAJ API is not in the classpath.

NEW REPOSITORY INSTALLATION ERROR!!
I want to install a new Repository using Oracle9iR9.2.0.1 and iDS10g on windowsXP Professional the same machine.
After running all the SQL scripts ( ckqa,ckvalqa,ckcreate,ckreport) with success to installing a new Repository on my Database using "the Scripts Method",I start the Repository Administration Utility( RAU) to scheck the priveleges and so on.
After pressing the Install button in the RAU:
-I take public synonyms
-I scheck the box for "Support Designer Objects", then
-The Repository size is Medium
-I have not change the defauft Tablespace of the Repository_Manager names TEMPORARY_TABLES to store the index and table of System Data....Diagram Data.
After Starting, the Installation began an stop by installing some Tables like schown :

When I read the Help of the Error the
CAUSE was: Failed to find sufficient contiguous Space to allocate INITIAL extend for Segment being created.
ACTION: Use ALTER TABLESPACE ADD DATAFILE to add additional space to the tablespace or retry with a smaller Value for initial.
I then try to resolve it by schecking and changing the Values of INITIAL_VALUE and NEXT_VALUE in the ckparams.txt to 500k.I change the Values of TEMPORARY_TABLES(10214 to 51200k) and TEMPORARY_INDEXES from (20000 to 100000k).Then I run the scripts @ckparams.txt, @ckvalqa, @ckcreate but
-pressing the Scheck Privileges Button on the RAU still give me 106k for the INITIAL_ and NEXT_VALUE.
-And the installato still stop with the same Error.
Question: How schould I resolve this Configuration?

You are running into database errors. You should refer to the database documentation on how to adjust the size your tablespaces. The online Designer installation guide will advise you as to the sizes of tablespaces you require. How to create a variant for a selection screen button

hi ,
      i have created a selection screen for a normal report .
In the selection screen there is one button after the selct option for company code. when user enters some company code and presses the button the user i call a able contraol in which user gives some additional values for the comapny code.
how do i create variant. when i create varaint for the slection screen it does not take into account the other screen i called .
so every time user has to click that button and enter some values and execute. please suggest some way.

Hi,
      Inorder to create a variant for selection screen report, you need to enter valid data on the screen and click on the SAVE button which is available in the Menu.
      And regarding the button you were asking about after select option, it is not created manually it comes automatically,, you can remove this by mentioning no-extension after the select-option. You can get clear information of this if you do F1 help on select-option.
My advice to you, make effect use of F1 help.
