Unable to create or update object after creating database

I have installed Oracle 8.1.6 on a Solaris server (with documentation, cause I'm not expert of Unix).
Next I have created a database and a user (with the doc too !!)
I can make select on all the objects of this database (system tables for example). I have created one test table without any problem. Now I can't create any table or update the table on the server or on a client (the sql + froze). The select orders work. I tried to restard the server but the problem is the same.
Thank you very much for your help

There are no error ! (alert.log)
The sql plus (on the client or on the server) froze when I launch the create or update command. The select command works.
Thank you very much.

    RoboHelp 6.0 on my PC is suddenly unable to open existing
    projects or create new ones. The problem is not in the projects, as
    other people can unzip the same set of files and open them with
    RoboHelp on their PCs.
    The Details:
    When attempting to open an existing project (any project
    whether in version control or not), I get the message " Open
    project was cancelled or the application was unable to load
    database for..."
    I found the article that says to delete the CPD and XPJ files
    and then to use the Edit option to open the HHP file so that
    RoboHelp will recreate the two files. When I try that, I get the
    message "Unable to create database. Check that the directory is not
    read-only." It's
    not read-only.
    When I attempt to create a new project, the application acts
    like it is going to create one, but it just creates a project
    folder without the new first topic and then repeats the New Project
    Wizard window that prompts for title, etc. It will keep creating
    folders and returning to this window in a loop without ever really
    creating a project.
    RoboSource Control is functioning normally, by the way.
    I have uninstalled and reinstalled RH 6 several times, and
    have even uninstalled RH 6 and installed to RH 5 just to see if it
    could open projects, which it does with no problems. After that
    test, I uninstalled RH 5 and reinstalled RH 6, only to encounter
    the same problem all over again.
    This started happening after I uninstalled other unrelated
    software and received a message that some Service Pack 2 files had
    been changed and prompting me to insert the Service Pack 2 CD,
    which I don't have. This is because our IT department pre-builds
    our systems from an image and then distributes job-specific
    applications over the network. IT tried repairing Service Pack 2,
    but that didn't work. I'd like to uninstall and reinstall Service
    Pack 2, but the IT person says it's too risky on a system that was
    built from an image.
    We would like to find out
    which files RoboHelp is looking for when it launches a
    project so we can replace those files manually. Does anyone
    know what they are or have another suggestion that might fix the
    problem?
    Otherwise, I am stuck having to allow IT to rebuild my
    system. That means reinstalling and reconfiguring everything on it,
    just as if I were upgrading to a new PC. This can take a whole work
    week. However, I have already spent close to a work week on this
    problem, so maybe rebuilding would save time in the long
    run.

    Problem Resolution = HHA.dll
    For anyone who might be interested in the resolution to this
    issue, we did rebuild my PC and reinstall all of my software. The
    RoboHelp installation "complained" that I did not have HTML Help
    Workshop on my system and told me to download version 1.4 from
    Microsoft. I did have HTML Help Workshop..it's in my programs list.
    (It's not listed in programs on my co-workers' PCs, and they were
    not having problems, by the way.) But to make RH happy, I
    uninstalled the workshop and tried to install the version from
    Microsoft. But a message informed me that I already had a newer
    version of the workshop on my system, and I was back where I
    started. I could open projects, but there were weird problems.
    Selecting Topic Properties was met with an error message, and when
    the properties window opened, I could only see whatever template
    was assigned (or none if the topic had lost its template), and
    there was an extra section for Oracle help.
    So I started dinking around in the registry to see if I could
    get rid of any traces of the workshop so I could install the
    version RH wanted or to find any other clues to my problem. Under
    HTMLHelpAuthor, there was a reference to an HHA.dll file located in
    C:\WINDOWS\system32...only the file did not exist on my system.
    (Remember that my original problem was that some Service Pack 2
    files were either modified or missing.) So I did a Google search on
    that file name and found out that HTML Help Workshop is included in
    newer Windows operating systems, but that people used to have to
    get HTML Help Workshop from Microsoft, and that some people had
    made the mistake of just putting the HHA.dll file into the
    C:WINDOWS\system32 folder without also installing HTML Help
    Workshop. At this point it was obvious that I needed the HHA.dll,
    so I got it from a co-worker's PC. (Looking at the registry
    entries, I can also see that my system was built with a slightly
    different version of the operating system than my co-workers have.)
    Adding the HHA file to my system solved the problem. All
    projects but one were fine; one was still exhibiting the strange
    behavior. I fixed it by going back to the RoboHelp 5 version of the
    project and re-converting it to RoboHelp 6.
    I suspect that if I had known about the HHA.dll file before
    we rebuilt the PC, I could have solved the problem without going
    through that painful process. That is why I thought I should post
    the solution even though it was after the rebuild.

  • Unable to create database error

    Hello all-
    I've been working on a project in Robohelp7/HTML for about a
    week. I come in today and try to open my project and receive the
    error "Unable to create database. Check that the directory is not
    read-only.". I've done the obvious of checking the folders and
    files within and they are not marked read only. When I create a new
    project, I receive the same error. I'm stuck at a standstill and
    can't figure out why Robohelp has decided to deny me access to my
    project or the ability to create new ones. I went so far as to
    uninstall and reinstall, to no avail.
    Has anyone encountered this? Any help would be greatly
    appreciated.
    Thanks

    There is a topic on Opening RoboHelp Projects on my site. Rh allows you to browse to either an XPJ or HHP file but that is only as good as the last time you generated an output.
    When you open with an HHP you get an option to use the XPJ or not, in which case one is created. Either way there should be an XPJ. Not sure how you have lost it.
    Backup?

  • Unable to Create database index

    Hello All,
    I have a table where I'm trying to define indexes.
    I make the additional entry for indexes via SE11.
    Call transaction SE11.
    Enter the table ..
    Choose "Change".
    Choose "Indexes ...".
    Choose the "Create Index" icon and enter the table name and the index name.
    However when I goto SE14 to create in the database,  ->
    Choose "Edit".
    Choose "Indexes ...".
    Select the index.
    Choose continue.
    -> Select 'Background' as the processing type.
      > Choose "Create database index".
    Here, I'm unable to te database index just because it is grayed out.
    I tried with user DDIC also.
    Can any one help with the reason that I am unable to create it.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Regards,
    Pradeep

    Hello Pradeep,
    Steps to create an Index
    1. Goto SE11
    2. Enter table name and F6(Change)
    3. Select "Indexes" from the Application Tool bar
    4. Select "Create Index" Option
    5. Select one option
            "Non-Unique index"
    or
            "Unique Index"
    In case of a Non-Unique Index, you can use the radio buttons to define whether the index should be created for all database systems, for selected database systems or not at all in the database.
    Check the proper Type of the Index in SE11 again. This should solve your problem.

  • Cloudscape - JSP - Unable to create database CloudscapeDB

    I created a Cloudscape database in a Java program:
    try {
    Class.forName(COM.cloudscape.core.JDBCDriver).newInstance();
         connection = DriverManager.getConnection(jdbc:cloudscape:CloudscapeDB;create=true);
    A CloudscapeDB directory is automatically created in the same directory as my
    Java program. I then ran cloudview -start from the DOS prompt, opened my database, created my tables and added data.
    In another Java program, I display the list of customers:
    public void displayCustomers(){
    try {
    Class.forName("COM.cloudscape.core.JDBCDriver").newInstance();
    connection = DriverManager.getConnection(jdbc:cloudscape:CloudscapeDB;create=true);
         Statement s = connection.createStatement();
         ResultSet rs = s.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM customer");
    This Java program works fine, displays the data from the customer table.
    I then take this same code and put in into a JSP to display the list of customers to a web page and deploy my application using the Deployment tool:
    <%
    try {
    Class.forName(COM.cloudscape.core.JDBCDriver);
         connection = DriverManager.getConnection(jdbc:cloudscape:CloudscapeDB;create=true);
    My getConnection() method throws the following SQL Error:
    SqlException Error Thrown Failed to create database 'CloudscapeDB'
    I am able to access the CloudscapeDB using the same driver and URL in the Database Tool but I don't know what I am doing wrong in my JSP.
    In the Deployment Tool, I have configured the Driver Class as COM.cloudscape.core.JDBCDriver and the JNDI Name as jdbc/CloudscapeDB and the JDBC URL as jdbc:cloudscape:CloudscapeDB;create=true. I am not sure I even needed to do this.
    Any idea why my JSP cannot create the CloudscapeDB? I believe the CLASSPATH is configured correctly because I am able to get access to the Cloudscape database in my Java program.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Unable to create database

    Hi,
    dbassist gives this error while creating a database:
    ORA-01012: not logged on
    while in 2nd state: "Create database file" (orig. German:
    "Datenbankdateien erstellen"). What did we do wrong? Forgot to
    start any server forgot to free any file, something else?
    Our Shell-Variables are:

    I had the same problem before. Apparently, it happened to me
    because I was insisting on creating a db using shared server
    processes (MTS). The following quote says it all:
    ==========================================================
    Restricted Operations of the Multi-Threaded Server
    Certain administrative activities cannot be performed while
    connected to a dispatcher process, including shutting down or
    starting an instance and
    media recovery. An error message is issued if you attempt to
    perform these activities while connected to a dispatcher process.
    These activities are typically performed when connected with
    administrator privileges. When you want to connect with
    administrator privileges in a
    system configured with multi-threaded servers, you must state in
    your connect string that you want to use a dedicated server
    process
    (SRVR=DEDICATED) instead of a dispatcher process.
    =======================================================
    So, the answer is create a db using dedicated server processes,
    and then perhaps later on change them to shared server processes.

    Giancarlo, did you get an answer to this question? I am experiencing it as well. It may also be related to the NLS parameter setting, as I see that error message as well. And the "create database ..." command just doesn't work.

  • GW7 - Unable to delete Domain & MTA objects after crash

    Yes...I know there are similar threads already on the forums...but I'm still stuck :)
    Had a server crash - which was running GW7 WebAccess & hosted a Domain (Domain_3 in our case). And naturally, this server was put together by a long gone consultant years ago - who left little documentation and no current backup (well, we thought we had one...but it didn't restore). So I was left to wing it on my own.
    Rebuilt a server from scratch (NW 6.5 SP8). The server sits it's own tree and is in a DMZ off of a BorderManager server (multi-homed - and yes...life on the trailing edge of technology).
    I was unable to delete or use the existing GW objects (Domain_3, MTA or WebAccess)...so I created a new domain (Domain_2) and reinstalled WebAccess and the MTA. I used the same IP addresses/ports as the original/crashed server.
    This got us back on our feet and WebAccess seems to be working as expected.
    I've since tried following various TIDS about grafting the legacy objects into another part of the tree, etc. Unfortunately, the grafting process likewise failed after seemingly creating the domain & MTA objects. An error message indicated that I (as admin) didn't have sufficient rights (hard to believe...). So now I have two Domain_3 objects (w/MTAs, etc.) in different parts of the tree - which are non-functional and un-delete-able (if that's a word).
    I also managed to create another temporary domain object (Domain_9) in testing - which now won't allow me to delete it either (ugh)!
    I also found numerous pending GW operations - including the deletes, modifies, etc.
    Digging deeper - I have some stuck obituaries that are all related to the domain objects that I'm trying to get to disappear. Of course, I tried to free these stuck obituaries following various TIDs (which I've done in the past for other non-groupwise objects stuck in limbo) - but failed. I'm not sure if this is a cause, an effect, or just collateral damage...
    So I'm 10 miles past frustration...and have obviously hosed this pretty well...
    Any suggestions or guidance on where to focus my attention first?

    That's how I ended up with a 2nd copy of Domain_3 :) I created a temporary container - and tried to graft Domain_3. It created a domain object and a MTA - before failing (the error said I had insufficient rights to complete the task). Naturally, I couldn't delete these new objects either once they were created I performed this action as "admin" - authenticated to both trees (the GW objects are actually in our production tree).

    Does anyone have any ideas what else I can check. I'm a Unix person, not a Windows person, which is making it even more complicated. If I was on Unix, I'd just blow everything away and start again from scratch, but since I'm not sure how to remove all traces from the registry, etc., I don't want to try that on this machine. There was already one other database created, but it's not goign to be used.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    regards,
    Tarisa.

    hi,
    thanks for the info. the problem, as it turns out, was that I was connected to the db server via a terminal service (Microsoft Management Console), which for some reason caused probelms with TNS. After I connected directly to the machine using VNC, I was able to create the database with no problems. strange but true.
    regards,
    Tarisa.

  • Unable to create database backup

    Hello,
    Recently I requested access to database running on SQL 2008 R2.
    Now I'm dbo owner and can 'insert', 'update', 'delete' and etc.
    Currently I have to create a backup of the database but got this error:
    "The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'xp_get_tape_devices', database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'."
    What should I do to fix it?
    Thanks
    EV

    Well I ran the query you suggested against the database I'm going to backup and now my roles in this db are: db_backupoperator, db_owner
    I tried to backup again and get exact same error as initially.
    Then I tried to grant that role for db 'mssqlsystemresource' but got response:
    Lookup Error - SQL Server Database Error: Database 'mssqlsystemresource' does not exist. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
    Then I ran this query:
    SELECT name FROM [master].sys.sysdatabases
    and in the list returned I did not see 'mssqlsystemresource'
    What that could mean?
    Thanks
    nameFROM[master].sys.sysdatabases
    nameFROM[master].sys.sysdatabases

    When i'm trying to create a database through administration -> Manage Database , im getting error saying
    com.hyperion.planning.planning.HspCubeRefreshInProgressException: Cannot complete your request because the database is being refreshed.
    I tried Unlocking the application, using HspUnlockApp.cmd and it is returning a error, and im also unable find the HSP_LOCK Table
    Please let me know ur suggestions
    Thanks in Advance
    Edited by: Rao on Aug 8, 2010 8:57 PM

    Hi,
    There is definitely a table called HSP_LOCK in the planning applications repository, are you sure you are looking in the correct place.
    Anyway there is also a utility (HspUnlockApp) in the \planning\bin directory that should unlock the app and will save you having to mess around with any tables, more details :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/hp_admin/ch04s02.html

  • Unable to create Database in Reporting Service Configuration

    Hi,
    We have SQL Server 2012 in our environment. I want to enable monitor report in Lync 2013. i have separate Lync sql instance.
    I am trying to configure new database in Reporting Service Configuration manager in report Server database Configuration wizard.
    while testing connection getting below error.
    could not connect to server:A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to
    allow remote connections.(provider:Named Pipes provider,error:40-could not open a connection to SQL Server)
    kindly help to resolve issue.

    Hi Rakesh,
    Please check the below details information:
     Check the ReportServer db is present in the Database engine.
    Go and check the report server configurations (go here:Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft sql server 2012-> Configuration Tools -> Report Service Configuration Manager
    check all the connections if still not working. then create a new reporting services Database. While creating it make sure you select native mode, if you want to create a share point services then select share point integration mode.
    If the above didn't work, Please check which port is used for SQL Server database engine from SQL Server Configuration Manager.
    If we are using dynamic port, please make sure:
    SQL Server Browser service is running.
    UDP 1434 port is enabled in the firewall.
    If we are using static port, please make sure the port is enabled in the firewall.
    Below is useful link about how to troubleshoot connection issue:
