Unable to create P2V of Server 2008 R2 due to Error: 3210
I am attempting to create a Physical to Virtual Conversion of a Server 2008 R2 server that is hosting SQL 2008 R2 on it. When attempting to use SCVMM I receive the error below. When attempting to use Disk2VHD I receive the error that no boot device
can be found, but it did create a vhd(that is unbootable no matter what I did). Specs and error are below. Any help would be appreciated.
Target Hyper-V Host:
Server 2012, fully patched and hosting multiple VM's already
SCVMM Host:
Server 2012, fully patched running SCCVM 2012 w/ SP1 and SQL Server 2008 R2 (SCCVM and SQL are 180 day evaluation fresh installed)
Physical to Virtual machine in question:
Server 2008 R2 running SQL 2008 R2 (SQL is Full paid version)
Raid 1 (OS) and Raid 5(Data) setup on hard drives
Below is the error that is coming up in SCVMM when attempting to create the virtual mahine from the Physical:
Error (3210):
Boot and\or System volume \Device\HarddiskVolume1 was not selected or is not found on source machine SQL3.
Recommended Action:
Selected machine SQL3 cannot be virtualized. Verify that the boot and system volumes are selected for migration. Then try the operation again.
open disk management,
just give a disk lable to boot volume before scanning client system information , it works.

ODBC error generating temp file: "Unable to create file buffer" Server 2008
Guys:
I have a 32 bit application that has been running for years with no problems under XP and MS Server 2003.
To access the oracle DB we use MFC drivers and ODBC system datasources for Oracle 10g and 11g.
We recently moved from MS Server 2003 to Server 2008 Standard Edition (32 bit).
We also upgraded our DB from 10g to 11g R2.
Now the application gets intermittent errors when accessing the database like the one below:
"Unable to create file buffer"
I looked this up on other forums and it seems to be a problem with the ODBC driver creating uniquely names temp files
in the system temp folder. This was a documented problem some years ago and was fixed but now seems to have
reared its ugly head for Server 2008.
I'm not sure who the culprit is: 2008 32-bit or the 11g drivers.
I just know that some of our transactions fail because ODBC has problems and this is killing us.
As you see we are still running on a 32 bit OS and have created the ODBC DSNs using odbcad32.exe.
The application connects to the DB and works MOST OF THE TIME but random transactions now fail because of this error.
If I try to kill all of the *.tmp files from the windows temp directory it seems to solve the problem for a while but then the problem comes back rather quickly.
Any help here would be apprciated.This may solve the issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/130719
Don't just delete the offending file...it will be recreated eventually. Post a dummy file to prevent the error from reoccurring.
My only question is why you put more info on database and ODBC versions here and not in your SR? I'll note this in your SR for ya ;) -
Hi, We recently created new Azure subscriptions and Hosted Services, and now trying to create federations. We are getting and error "The required VM size or combination of VM sizes is not currently available in the selected region". What does this
mean and how can we resolve this to create a federation successfully? BTW, we use a SQL VM and not a standard A1, A2 types VMs and we have already set the DisablePackageValidation flag to true in these subscriptions.
Thanks,
-ven
Hi,
This is a sql azure issue. You also post this question on SQL azure forum. From error message, you need make sure your VM region is in one location.

Unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE 11G(on 64 bit Linux box)
We are unable to connect to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE 11G which is on 64 bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Infrastructure: OBIEE 11.1.1.5 64bit, on 64 bit Red Hat Linux Enterprise Linux 5.6 , MS SQL Server 2008 on 64 bit Microsoft Windows Server
Issue Description: Unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE11G RPD
Details: We are unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE which is on a 64 bit Linux box. We created the ODBC connection on Linux box to the SQL server. Whenever we try to import metadata it throws an error that says ‘Connection Failed’.
Here are the steps we followed to setup the ODBC connection on Linux box.
1) We updated the user.sh file with the LD_LIBRARY_PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH_64 values that point to $ORACLE_HOME/bifoundation/odbc/lib
This is where we found the driver for SQL server SEmsss23.so.
2) We updated the odbc.ini file with the entry for SQL server with the connection details
SI_SQL_Server_DEV = SQL Server
[SI_SQL_Server_DEV]
Driver=/u001_OAS/Oracle/Middleware/Oracle_BI1/bifoundation/odbc/lib/SEmsss23.so
Description=DataDirect 5.1 SQL Server Wire Protocol
Address=10.230.216.52,54970
AlternateServers=
AnsiNPW=Yes
ConnectionRetryCount=0
ConnectionRetryDelay=3
Database=SVBDW_NEW
LoadBalancing=0
LogonID=SIDatavalidation
Password=~~~Password123
QuoteID=No
ReportCodePageConversionErrors=0
3) We updated the IDENTIFIER_QUOTE_CHAR with single quotes instead of double quotes in the DB features of the RPD
4) We updated the bash_profile file to point the ODBCINI variable to the path where the OBIEE odbc.ini file is present.
Export ODBCINI=/u001_OAS/Oracle/Middleware/instances/instance1/bifoundation/OracleBIApplication/coreapplication/setup/odbc.ini
The error in nqsserver.log file says “[nQSError: 16001] ODBC error state: IM002 code: 0 message: [DataDirect][ODBC lib] Data source name not found and no default driver specified.”Hi,
Make sure SQL Configuration Manager make sure the TCP/IP enabled. please try below method
Method 1
Re Create a new ODBC & Oracle Bi Server DSN Configuration test it and use it in the connection pools.
define your ODBC data source in your server where the BI Server is installed. Check your DB connections in your physical layer and make they are defined on your BI Server as well.
Method 2:
try using the complete TNS in below format in the datasource name section:
(DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST =DB IP)(PORT = 1521)) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL) ) and provide the credentials.
Method 3:
To use the OCI call interface you need to have oracle client DB to be installed so that you can establish a connection using that DB credentials and connect to the remote dB and then import the tables.....this is the rule of thumb.
hope helps you.
Thanks

This code work fine in server 2008, but get this error in server 2012. Do yo have any idea?
Need some more info as to where this is installed and how.
First thing to try would be to uninstall the solution and reinstall.
Check the GAC for your assembly as well as web.config.
If you don't see it in one of those places, something went wrong with the install and you'll need to start over.

P2V SQL Server 2008 R2 HYPER-V Clustering
Hi all,
i have current sql server 2008 environment which have the following requirements:
1. SERVER A with failover cluster 1 node server (physical server)
2. 4 shared disk storage (SAN)
3. The connectivity is HBA
i am supposed to migrate the existing into hyper-v environment which the following information detail:
1. provision CSV in the same storage with existing 4 shared disk storage
2. SERVER B (HYPER-V will be deployed for future sql server cluster)
the scenario is we want to migrate the server A to Server B.
Please correct my plan as the following detail:
- We want to P2V the existing into SERVER B (Hyper-V).
here is my questions
1. is it possible the vhd after P2V process is attached into CSV storage ?
2. is it possible the shared storage in the previous environment is re-mapping volume into the Hyper-V ?
sorry if my thread is disorganized, i am novice in this case. need your kind advice for the best practice solve this issue.
please tell me if there is anything less clear.
Best Regards,
ariFirst question is why do you want to P2V? It does not take that much effort to create a new VM and then use SQL tools to backup and restore the databases into the new environment. Then you are using known and proven tools instead of trying to
make everything work from a P2V.
When you P2V, the process will create virtual hard drives from each physical drive. If you want to make your SQL Server into a VM, it does not make sense to keep the storage on pass-through disks. It is better to use VHDs for the storage of a
VM.
Having single node clusters does not make much sense, unless the idea is to immediately add a second node when available.

All,
Need any help that someone can provide. Currently I have a T5140 server. Yesterday it crashed unexpectedly. We were able to reboot the system and it come back up with the service light on. Service light was indicating a memory DIMM problem. We powered down the server to replace the memory modules that had service led showing for them. After powering the system on, it never gets past POST now. We attached a serial console to the ILOM and watch the post. POST starts normally. Then we start to see messages about "unable to create files. Finally POST gets to a point where it looks like it is finishing but hangs. It hangs at the point where it say that it is initiating run level 3. But it just sits there and never boots the system. Any ideas? Is this a motherboard issue that really cemented itself when the power was removed to the system? Any help would be greatly appreciated. We are stuck.
Thanks.I have had this same issue, unfortunately you will need to place a service call for a field tech to come on-site and replace the failty DIMM. The T5140 WILL NOT BOOT if any one or more DIMMs fail to POST.
The only partial solution is to disable the CPU that is connected to the bad DIMM so the system will successfully boot up in degraded mode. But I would not run the box like that for long.
You need to call service a.s.a.p. -
Unable to dual boot Windows Server 2008 On My new HP laptop
Hello,
I have recently purchased a laptop from HP Site. Here are the specifications of my laptop.
OS : Windows 8.1
HP ENVY 17T
4710HQ PROCESSOR
16GB RAM
I have created a new NTFS Partition and I am trying to install WINDOWS SERVER 2008 from setup file from my hard disk.Hi:
Yes, the drive controller in your notebook is set to AHCI, not RAID.
Here are the AHCI drivers in the setup information file I posted above...They are in the iaAHCIC file...
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C03&CC_0106.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) 8 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9C03&CC_0106.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) 8 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller"
You need to select the driver that matches the hardware ID for the specific Intel(R) 8 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller your model has.
It either has the 8C03 controller or the 9C03 controller.
You can find the hardware ID for the specific controller your notebook has by clicking on the Intel(R) 8 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller.
The click on the Details tab at the top of the Intel(R) 8 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller window.
Now you see a Property drop down list and it is defaulted to Device Description.
Drop down on that and select the third item (Hardware ID's). Now you should see the ID device string. -

Hi Rahul.U,
Are you able to connect to SQL Server successfully from SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) when enforcing encryption?
According to above error message, it could be caused by the inappropriate server name or incorrect TrustServerCertificate configuration in the connection string from Visual Studio. There are some proposals for you troubleshooting this error.
1. Make sure that you connect to the SQL server using the fully qualified domain name (FQDN).
2. When connecting to a SQL Server instance with a valid certificate, please add the
TrustServerCertificate
parameter and set it to true in the connection string. For more details, please review this
article.
However, if you can successfully connect to SQL Server via SSMS, but still fail to connect to SQL Server from Visual Studio, I would like to recommend you post the question in the .Net Framework forum at
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/home?category=netdevelopment . It is appropriate and more experts will assist you.

Unable to connect to sql server 2008
i have windows 8 64-bit on my system, i installed sql server 2008 it installed successfully, but now i'm unable to open server management studio, it is showing error like "provider:named pipes provider, error:40-
could not open a connection to sql server microsoft sql
server, error:2" and in configuration manager there is nothing under "sql server services and sql server network configuration"kindly help me to fix this problemHello,
Please run the Discovery Report as shown in the following resource and make sure the Database Engine Services is listed
on the report.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/petersad/archive/2009/11/13/sql-server-2008-discovery-report.aspx
If the Database Engine Services is listed on the report, please apply SP3 for SQL Server 2008 since SQL Server is not compatible with Windows 8 without that service pack.

Hope this helps.

Creating a window server 2008 virtual appliance.
how to get there?
What you mean by Windows Server 2008 Virtual Appliance? If you mean how to run Windows Server 2008 on a VM then simply you need to have a hypervisor (Hyper-V, VMWARE ...) and then you can create a new VM the hypervisor, specify the ISO file or install media
location for Windows Server 2008 and create the VM.
If this is for evaluation then you can get the VHD from here in case you have Hyper-V: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16572

Unable to install SCCM client on Windows Server 2008 R2 - certificate permission error?
I am trying to comply with corporate policy, which is, have an SCCM agent or client on every Windows device. I have successfully used the provided SCCM installer on other Windows 2008 R2 servers. However for one particular server I cannot get the SCCM agent
to install successfully. I've searched forums and documentation, but can't find a solution. Part of the problem is the lack of feedback by SCCM on what is wrong. I think I have narrowed down the symptom to the following error messages from the "C:\Windows\CCM\Logs\ClientIDManagerStartup.log":
[LOG[Certificate [Thumbprint C559304C1598F17641D0732EB9EB787169A25FA7] issued to 'SMS' doesn't have private key or caller doesn't have access to private key.
[LOG[Failed in GetCertificate(...): 0x87d00281]LOG]!><time="10:56:59.014+300" date="04-17-2014" component="ClientIDManagerStartup" context="" type="3" thread="3024" file="ccmcert.cpp:2122">
[LOG[CCMCreateAuthHeaders failed (0x8009200b).]LOG]!><time="10:56:59.014+300" date="04-17-2014" component="ClientIDManagerStartup" context="" type="3" thread="3024" file="clientauthutil.cpp:978">
When I use the Certificates MMC snap in to look at installed certs on this Windows Server 2008 R2 machine, there are plenty of normal and expected certificates there. There is also a branch called SMS with hundreds of entries, I have no idea what that is.
The above error seems to indicate a permissions issue. What do I do to fix this SCCM install? It seems like a server cert issue, not an SCCM issue, so I'm posting to the Windows Server forums.
Thanks in advance.
Thanksthis maybe helpful...

should be asked in SCCM forum...

Is having 2 SSD's in a MacBook Pro (Late 2008 and up) Bad?
Hello, I was wondering is it a bad idea to run a MacBook Pro (unibody) with 2 SSD's installed with a data doubler? Would this cause stress or damage to the MacBook Pro in anyway? Thank you.
