Unable to customize toolbar

I have a problem that I cannot remember when it started, but its been some time and I've worked around it ever since. The problem is that when I want to customize Safari's toolbar, no slide out window appears but even clicking on the back and forward buttons or any button for that matter doesn't work! Its as if the customize toolbar page is invisible and it even prevents me from manually typing in a new address!
Only solution I have is to quit Safari.

Norm,
The first and easiest troubleshooting step involves replacing/refreshing the com.apple.Safari.plist file.
Quit Safari and find the com.apple.Safari.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Drag the file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart and check Safari for normal behavior.

  • Aperture 2.1.4 with Snow Leopard opens but unable to customize toolbar. Nothing happens when I select view/customize.

Installed 2.1.4 on an iMac with 3GB Ram using 10.6.8 OSX.
    Experiencing two problems for now.
    1. Attempts to customize toolbar has no response. The boxes appear but no screen with the tools to import.
    2. I did the standard install over AP 1.5 and all library photos for 1.5 appear in 2.1.4 but
when opening a project/folder picture it will open and the "Loading" message appears but the wheel is not moving?
I'm using 2.1 over 3.0 because I have it and not ready to spend more until I get this working. I plan to go to LION OSX
    once Aperture functons correctly.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Updated to snow leopard and had the same problem that when the thumbnails where placed on the bottom I could only scroll left or right when no picture was marked... so I placed the thumbnails to the left side and scrolling worked normally even with a a marked picture...I also had bad color sync problems and switching screens would cause my windows to become almost black and unreadable..... I reinstalled my Leopard clone drive shortly there after... oh well... it took a while before leopard was ready for professional use.... I didn't really expect Snow leopard to be different... I will check back in at 10.6.4 or so LOL

  • In the Customize Toolbar I was unable to find some useful buttons like New Tab or Reload Current Page. Will they be added?

    I have nothing to add

You can't have an icon twice. The "reload current page" is on the right of the location toolbar and the "New tab" icon is on the right of the tab toolbar.
You can move them to the "Customize toolbar" window or any other place in any toolbar.

  • Unable to move addons; not appearing in the customize toolbar menu

I want to move my addon icons and such for a few of my extensions (Forecast Fox, Webmail Notifier), but they are locked to my menu bar or are simply not appearing. When I go to the customize toolbar screen, the addons in question are not present to be selected and refuse to be moved from their present positions to somewhere more favorable.
How can I shift their locations so I don't have to hit Alt just to see the forecast?

When attempting to move the Forecast Fox toolbar display, you have to be viewing this page - http://www.getforecastfox.com/customize/16/
That page automatically opens when you hit the Options button for that extension in Extensions on the Add-ons Manager tab in Firefox 4+ versions. This is the only extension that I have ever seen which did preference settings in this manner.

  • Selecting "Customize Toolbar" does nothing

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1 (6534.50) on a MacBook 1,1 (Core Duo).
I've been experiencing some weirdness with the toolbar. I've uninstalled Saft, all Safari extensions, reinstalled Safari a couple of times, and ran a Combo Updater once or twice.
When I choose "Customize Toolbar..." nothing happens. I'm unable to add icons. I can delete them by dragging them off the toolbar, or rearrange them by dragging them around, but I'm unable to add any.
This is the case regardless of whether I'm opening Safari in 32 (with Rosetta) or 64 bit mode.
Anybody got any hints for me?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
    Jim.

Third-party system modifications are a common cause of instability and poor performance. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
Reboot as usual (not in safe mode) if you haven't already done so. Launch the Terminal application, copy or drag -- do not type -- the line of text below into the window, and press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
Next, do the same thing with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
That's one line, not two. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
    Next, this command:
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
Again, one line. Finally, one more:
    ls -1A {,/}Library/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,La,Mail/B,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Se,Sta}* 2> /dev/null
Remember, this is all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Mail customize toolbar in full screen

I can't customize my toolbar in full screen. If I click on 'view' the option to choose 'customize toolbar' isn't availalbe. That means, I can't add the address book to 'compose new message'.
Again, I only have this problem in full screen.
    Appreciate any input.
    Thanks!

Here's an interesting bit: iTunes will let me restore my iPod touch from backup: it's still running iOS 4.3.3. I figured as much... there's backups showing in the Preferences -> Devices list for both devices (and even my old, long gone iPod touch 2G), but my iPhone (on iOS5) isn't giving me any such option. I remember I had to downgrade before to get the backup restored (something went haywire in the setup assistant, and I couldn't restore a backup from iTunes there)... If it was possible to go to iOS 5.0 rather than 5.0.1 I would just do the same thing again, but iOS 5.0.1 isn't an option. I attached a screenshot. Hopefully Apple can get this nonsense sorted out; I think iOS 5 might be the root of this, somehow.

  • Can´t access customize toolbar window in Aperture 3

    Dear Apple community,
When I call "customize toolbar" in Aperture 3.2.4, the window with additional icon options is missing, inlcuding the "done" button (see attached screenshot), but I´m able to move existing icons arround and the rectangular spaces appear. To end the customization mode, Aperture has to be restarted. In other applications there seems to be no problem.
My Sytem is a MacBook Pro, 2.4 Ghz (Core 2 Duo) with 2 GB RAM with MacOS 10.6.8
Aperture was installed from the AppStore and runs in 64 bit mode.
So far, I tried to remove "com.apple.Aperture.plist", with no effect.
I did not reinstall Aperture yet, because the current version in the AppStore seems to require 10.7. Would I still be able to install the latest version running on 10.6.8 from the AppStore?
The Problem has been reported before (https://discussions.apple.com/message/17081479#17081479), but I couldn´t find the solution.
Below, I copied the console report.
Thank you very much for your help,
    Felix

the problem exists even on a "clean" user account.
That really suggest a system wide trouble - hardware, MacOS X system, or Aperture.app.
Currently I´m wondering, if there are still remains of Aperture 2 around, which could interfere with Aperture 3.
Did Aperture 3 ever work previously correctly? Then I do not think, that there are older receipts from Aperture 2 interfering.
Does the console output (see first post) mean anything to you?
The Console output shows only calls to methods from the standard frameworks that are part of MacOS X, no frameworks that are installed inside the Aperture application. But Aperture might be calling wrong, outdated frameworks or GUI-elements (nib-files) inside the Aperture package may be missing. SO I cannot really tell, if the problem is with the system or with Aperture.
I assume you have done all ritual fixes like rebooting, Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM,
You might try to reinstall Snow Leopard and see, if that fixes it. If not, contact Apple and ask for an Aperture installer.

  • Safari 4.0.3  Customize Toolbar problem

After update verything functions OK till I click View/Customise Toolbars. After this action Adresses and Google searches cannot be typed any more unless I restart Safari
Tried to trass com.apple.Safari.plist and restart but nothing changes
No idea how to solve this
    Jorge

I could not open my "customize toolbar" feature by right clicking in the toolbar nor by choosing selection from the view menu.
    I went to Computer/Library/Imput Managers
There I had a list of all the menu plug ins for Safari. I suspected TabExpose was the problem and deleted that first, restarted Safari and it fixed the problem. The security update did not fix it, and deleting the safari plist did not help. This problem occurred with Onyx about 4 months ago also. Deleting the input manager resolved the issue.
    Hope that helps someone.

    Thanks

It's the "+" on the Tab bar. You can move it to the Navigation Toolbar if you prefer. When you start Customize, the + moves to the far right end of the Tab bar. You can drag it where you want (see attached image).
    Any luck?

  • I have 9.0.1 on 2 pc's, both xp sp3. On 1 the 'open new tab' button is visible, on the other, the 'open new tab' button is not even available in the 'customize toolbar' menu for dragging and dropping. Why?

I used the same installation file, but on 1 pc, the 'open new tab' button is available in the 'customize toolbar' menu and can be dragged and dropped onto the navigation bar. On the other pc, the 'open new tab' button/icon is not even available for dragging and dropping. I uninstalled firefox completely, including settings and preferences, then reinstalled, but that did not correct the missing button.

    Hi,
Please try '''Restore Default Set''' in the '''Customize...''' window. If it's still not visible, one reason could be that the button is already placed on the toolbar but may be hidden behind another icon or toolbar.
