Unable to delete cookies for individual websites

Am running Firefox 29 on Windows 8.1 64 bit.
This arose because a particular website was having difficulty setting a cookie (I think) - FF was giving the error that the website server was redirecting the request in a way that couldn't be completed - but with the caveat that it could be caused by cookies not being permitted. So I tried deleting the cookie for that particular website but FF seems not to comply. It is removed from the list of cookies in the dialog box and I can close the dialog, however if I reopen it the cookie it still shown as present. Doing it a second time doesn't help.
I then found that this doesn't just apply apply to one particular website, it's any website that stores a cookie. Cookies are set to be deleted when they expire as I find it useful for some website to store cookies (I can't seem to find a whitelist which allows cookies to be deleted except for those on the whitelist, this in contradistinction to the blacklist which prevent certain websites from setting cookies at all).
I've tried the following:
(1) open FF in safe mode but I get the same result (cookie not deleted)
(2) with FF closed rename the cookies.sqlite file out of the way. Starting then with a "clean" cookie file I still get the same result (cookie not deleted).
I can confirm the cookie isn't deleted by quickly opening the cookies.sqlite and searching for the website string.
I have tried setting FF cookie "policy" to remove all at the end of session and that works - but it also removes the useful ones as well. Does anyone have some ideas?

Look for and turn off '''Use Hardware Acceleration'''.<BR>
Poke around safe web sites and see if there is still a problem. Then restart.

  • Does Firefox have a setting for retaining cookies similar to the 'Preserve Favorites website data' setting found in I.E. so you do not delete cookies from favorited websites when deleting your browsing history?

In I.E. when you want to delete your browsing history, the Internet Options tab allows you to retain the cookies for the websites that are listed in your 'Favorites'. With this preference enabled, you can delete your browsing history regularly without having to maintenance your cookies that you need. My bank requires that I register my computer for security reasons. The registration process places a cookie on PC. My browsing history is set to delete upon logout and I'm concerned that I will have to re-register my PC every time I log in or I will have to maintenance my browsing history every time I clear it. Does Firefox provide a feature so I can retain certain cookies that I want to keep?

If you use [[Clear Recent History]] or other means to clear (all) cookies then those specified cookies will be removed, even if there is an allow exception.
You can let all cookies expire if you close Firefox and make an Allow exception for the ones that you want to keep.
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions"
Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"

  • How can I save the cache/cookies for specific websites but delete all other cache/cookies upon exiting Firefox?

I am using Firefox 14.0.1. I have it set to delete cache/cookies on exit, keeping my "foxden" clean. However, if I want to save the cache and cookies for a particular website, i.e a flash game that will save my current level, I cannot unless i disable the cache -clearing feature.
I would like to be able to "add an exception" to the cache-clearing or at the very least, be able to copy the relevant files for that page and paste them back before opening Firefox again.
    Any ideas?

    That is not possible.<br />
You can only clear the entire cache.
If you do not want specific content to get cached or written to disk then you need to switch on Private Browsing.
    * https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox3.1/PrivateBrowsing/SecurityReview#Configuration
For cookies you must not use clear history, but let all cookies expire when you close Firefox and make an allow exception for cookies from domains that you want to keep.

After unblocking the cookies again, I find I still can't make train reservations, even though I had done so frequently in the past.

  • Unable to display flash for some website

I bought my iphone to surf the web.
But that is more and more website i am not able to access due to flashplayer.
When is apple going to solve this issue?

    sigh
The answer (which has been repeated innumerable times on these forums) is that no one knows when or IF Apple will ever allow a Flash player/plugin for the iPhone. Adobe's position is that they don't provide one because Apple won't allow one, which seems to mean that if Apple did, Adobe would. Whatever... right now, Apple doesn't want Flash on the iPhone. Who knows if that'll ever change.

  • Disabling Javascript for individual Websites

I have finally isolated the source of unblockable ads that pop up on certain Websites, but not others. These ads originate from different sources, but many of them are Chitka ads that block part of the screen and can't even be clicked OFF. They just continuously block what you are trying to read or see.
When I disable Java on Firefox, these ads disappear--totally. Unfortunately, many other Websites that I visit utilize Java. So I am wondering, "Why can't we have control over which Websites display Java and which ones don't--much like blocking popup ads from certain Websites and allowing them from others?"
The only work around I have found, is to open TWO browsers: Firefox with Java disabled to view the sites that have the annoying ads and Internet Explorer with Java enabled to view the sites that require Java and don't have annoying popups.
Am I the only one having this problem?

  • Safari deleting cookies

Hello - I am experiencing an issue with Safari deleting cookies for certain websites; it's random - not all http nor https. For instance, I use outlook web access for corporate email. Initially Safari kept my username/password for outlook access but now each time I shutdown/re-launch Safari, I have to re-enter my credentials. Has anyone else been experiencing similar issues? Is there a fix for this?
    I'm using Safari Version 3.0.4 (5523.10.6).
    Thanks,
    Paul K.

Since mine also crashes a lot, I can confirm that all cookies are gone when I send a crash report to Apple
    Hi
Apple doesn't respond to Crash Reports. Until the Crash Report Bug is repaired (perhaps in 10.5.2) if you need to see it, go to your Finder: Your User Account>Library>Logs>Crash Reporter. Inside that folder you'll find the Crash Reports (accumulated in one file with the latest report at the end).
If you want to resolve the crashes, start a new topic here. Copy/paste the most recent crash report (per above) to your post. In your post describe your browser activity when the crash occurs.

  • IE fails to store cookies for some web sites

    Hi,
I am working on a PHP based website. The problem is IE is not storing the cookies for this site. I have cross checked this that the cookies are being saved in the system for other sites: I was able to login to Yahoo, Gmail and so on..... only my site is
not working. I tried Mozilla Firefox and Chrome and both are working without any issues.
Usually cookies will be stored to "C:\Users\user-name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies" and I can see cookies for other websites in this directory but not mine.
    This is my url: http://md1svcvlnx24/wmsdev/
Is there anything wrong in domain name? but I think a domain name can contain numbers.
    Thanks,
    Nagaraj

    Hi Kelvin,
Thanks for the reply. You cannot access http://md1svcvlnx24/wmsdev/ on internet, its a local environment. Our customers
have just given alias for localhost I think. We can access this instance using our local network and when I try to login to the site, I noticed the cookies not been saving to the system and this happening only for this site, rest OK.
My doubt is: What is the use of giving domain name when calling setCookie() in PHP?
Is it necessary to set domain name when calling this function? We are assigning NULL ("") value to this option when calling setCookie() funcxtion
At present we are calling setCookie() function like below,
setcookie(name, value, expire, '/', "");  Please note that we are assigning null value to domain name (last option). So do we need to assign domain name here? If so how in this case (http://md1svcvlnx24/wmsdev/)?
    I really appreciate your suggestion.
    Thanks,
    Nagaraj

  • Monitoring Bandwidth usage for individual hosted sites on osx server?

Does anyone know of a good way to monitor bandwidth consumption for individual websites hosted on osx server?

Part of this answer depends on server configuration details that you haven't provided.
Are you looking for 'bandwidth' as in total bytes transferred for any given site? or are you looking for a megabits-per-second network throughput calculation?
Are your various sites logging to separate log files? or a single, unified log file?
If you want a total bytes transferred calculation, then that data is stored in the standard log files, so a simple parser that adds up the response sizes would suffice - it will tell you that x number of bytes/megabytes were transferred.
A bandwitch utilization graph (e.g. mbps) is a little trickier, though.
Are your sites running on the same port, using name-based virtual hosting to separate the traffic, or are they running on different ports?
If different ports then you may be able to implement some kind of network monitoring, but if they're all running on the same port (e.g. 80) then that doesn't work - you're down to Apache logging.
The standard Apache logs, though, don't include enough data to calculate a bandwidth graph. It does include timestamps of requests, and the total bytes in the reply, but that's not enough - the timestamp is only accurate to the second, and there's no indication of duration... for example, a 1mb web page served in 1 second equates to 8mbps, but that same file transferred in 30 seconds is only about 273kbps.
Since the transfer time is required to calculate the bandwidth utilization for the site, you'll need to amend your logging to include the transfer size. You'll need to enable mod_logio and add the %O (output bytes) and %T (request time) variables to your log format. Only then can you calculate the bits-per-second throughput of your site.

  • Deleted cookies keep reappearing

Even though I delete cookies certain unwanted websites like MacKeeper, the sun.co.uk  still open a page and deposit a new cookie. I have made sure the Computer has its firewall turned on. These unwanted intrusive website only seem to do this on Safari, not on Firefox or Chrome.  Can I get rid of Safari and reinstall and would this help?

If you are concerned about cookie management on Safari, you'd be better of using Firefox or Chrome
Safari has a poor history when it comes to managing cookies in Safari as noted from the results of an ASC search here.

  • Why are certain websites telling me I need to enable cookies? I've deleted cookies.sqlite, cleared the history, and set custom settings for history to allow cookies and I am still getting this message.

I am on 3.6.17. Please don't tell me to upgrade. I shouldn't need to upgrade to solve a cookie problem.

There is usually no need to enable third-party cookies. Only some websites needs them enabled. E.g. you can't logout properly from Hotmail unless third-party cookies are enabled, but apart from that Hotmail (Windows Live) works without problems. You usually notice it when you have to enable third-party cookies because the website gives a warning. You end up with a lot of extra cookies if third-party cookies are enabled, so I keep them disabled and remove the live.com cookies myself in this case.

  • How can I keep the cookie history for one website while not allowing it for others?

My privacy setting is set to clear history, cookies, etc whenever I close out of Firefox. As a result, one website I use frequently re-asks security questions after I log-in even though I tell it that it should remember and recognize my private computer. According to the web tech support, it is because my cookies are being deleted. She said in Windows Vista, she found a way around that. I have Windows 7, but have not figured it out yet.
I would like to be able to specify which websites I want to be able to keep cookies for my computer. How do I do that?

Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox.
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
Make an Allow exception for the ones that you want to keep.
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions"
You can inspect and modify the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
