Unable to delete encrypted iPad backup in iTunes

Hi:
We are unable to delete the encrypted local backup under the subheading "Backups" in iTunes.
Basically, one needs the password to delete the encrypted backup, and we don't have it. (There are a zillion posts about this issue, iTunes automatically entering a PW without letting one know among them, etc., but bottom-line we do not have the PW for whatever reason)
Posts say that one needs to completely restore the iPad to delete the encrypted backup. Note that we are not trying to recover the encrypted backup in any way, just to delete it so that we can start over with a new encrypted backup on our computer.
So here's what we have tried (3 x, just to make sure that we did it correctly):
Backup the iPad to iCloud.
Go to iTunes, select the plugged in iPad, and go to the button that says "Restore iPad" and run through the erase procedure.
Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and delete any backups for the iPad on the computer.
Unplug the erased iPad, and then restore it from the Cloud.
But, after all this, when we plug the iPad back into the computer and it is recognized in iTunes, the "Encrypt local backup" box is checked under the "This computer" category (even though "This computer" is not checked). And unchecking the "Encrypt Local backup" button doesn't help since it is still asking for an unknown password. And what is so frustrating is that under "Backups>Latest Backup" it correctly states that "Your iPad has never been backed up to this computer".
So, how do we get our iPad backed up to our computer, rather than iCloud, given all this?
Thank you very, very much!
OS Yosemite
iOS 8.1
iPad 2

I don't know if this will help, but on your computer, launch iTunes, choose Store > View My Account , then sign in and click Manage Pre-orders. If the pre-order still shows there, you may be able to cancel it. If not, go here:
iTunes Support
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.
Regards.

  • I forgot my encrypted ipad backup password

I forgot my encrypted ipad backup password in itunes - ok but I know my ipad pass so I figured I'd just go to prefs >> devices, delete the old backup, and then just redo a whole backup and set a new pass. Should be simple, right? Nope! Stupid itunes keeps asking me for my **** old backup password... I don't know what it is, I just want to make that go away and have it do an entirely new backup! How do I do that?

You must restore the iPad as a new device, there is no way around it. If you delete the old backup and try to backup again, the backup will still be encrypted.
If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore, choose set up as a new device.

    It still didn't work...
Within this commonfiles\apple folder, there is only one folder, labeled "Internet Services." Within this folder, there are 6 folders, labeled:
    APLZOD.resources
    BookmarkDAV_client.resources
    CoreDAV.resources
    iCloud.resources
    iCloudServices.resources
    ShellStreams.resources
Within all but CoreDAV and BookmarkDAV_client, there are multiple different folders, all labeled starting with a two letter (acronym I believe, for different languages) then .lproj (for example, a folder is labeled "ar.lproj".
In each of the folders of APLZOD.resources, there is a file labeled "APLZODlocalized.dll."
In all of the folders containing the multiple .lproj folders, there are likewise "name"localized.dll files contained.
In the BookmarkDAV_client and Core DAV folders, they each contain only one file, "Info.plist"
I attempted to delete all of these files, and still, the FileAssassin could not delete them. I unlocked one of them for instance, and I tried to delete the file myself (thru windows explorer and just clicking delete), and I still had the same issue of coming eventually to the window requesting me to "try again" to have permission.
What can I do?? I'd like to avoid Unlocker, but if it really is a reliable and SAFE program, and someone knows a SAFE place to download it from, I'd appreciate it very much so!!
    thanks!!

Apple (and no one else) can not assist (with serial number or iCloud) in finding a lost or stolen iPad.
Report to police along with serial number. Change all your passwords.

  • How do I delete my encrypted iPad backup, & then create an unecrypted backup?

    Good Afternoon,
I had recently dropped my iPad. The screen still functions, but every swipe is pretty much an invitation to cutting myself on a glass shard so I'm sending it in for exchange.
In any case my first backup (which is now antiquated) was encrypted & I can't remember the password.
Can I delete my previous backup and create an entirely new backup (without encryption)? If so, where can I delete said backup?
It seems everytime Ive tried to take off that "Encrypt my backup" checkmark item, it prompts me for the password..
Thank you in advance if anyone is able to aid in this question.

I apologize, but I have a few follow-up questions. I believe the thread did confirm this, but I'd like to be absolutely sure bc once best buy takes my ipad, I won't see the replacement for a couple days and by then I won't be able to resync.
    1) I can delete this current encrypted backup.
    2) I can connect my current iPad and perform an entirely new backup (sans encryption).
    3) When best buy gives me my refurb iPad, I can restore using the backup from point #2?
I got a little worried after reading wjosten's point about having to restore as a new ipad.

Yoiu also have to restore the phone as a new device, after deleting the existing backups. If you don't restore as a new device, the encryption requirement will not be removed.

  • How can I retain two versions of my iPad backup in iTunes?

    HI,
When I backup my iPad on iTunes, the previous backup is automatically deleted and a new back is created.
How can I retain two versions of my iPad bacup in iTunes?
    Thanks, Ramani

Backup the device. Immediately restore the backup. The restored backup is now archived and a new rolling backup set is created. You can repeat as needed and clear older backups from Edit > Preferences > Devices.

  • HT4946 Oops, I deleted my device backup from iTunes but want it back!

When a device backup is deleted from iTunes, is there a way to get it back?  I was trying to sync my iPad and create a backup on my new laptop, but it glitched during the sync process so now my "Other" is shown as almost 25GB on my 64GB iPad.  I had created a backup at that point, which included all my local app data.  However, in my attempt to fix the "Other" size issue, I somehow ended up restoring my iPad to an old backup from two months ago and deleted the current backup accidentally.  I would really like to find out where the device backup goes when it is deleted.  Does it move to the Recycle Bin or anywhere else on the computer I can access it to bring it back?  I have lost about two months of local app data by accidentally restoring to this older backup, but now I have no current backup to use!

That is a really good suggestion, however it was all done within a period of a few hours (from time of backup creation to accidentally deleting that new backup instead of the two-month old version). Therefore, I don't believe the computer had a backup in between that time. I will look, but I think it was created and deleted all too quickly for there to be a secondary backup restore point on the computer.

  • Updating to IOS 5 deleted all prior backups in Itunes

I updated my Iphone to IOS 5 which deleted my contacts. I have tried all of the solutions that I have found on other threads without success. I wanted to restore to a backup prior to updating to IOS 5 but it seems itunes has deleted it. I am using a windows XP computer and have a Iphone 3Gs. Please help

Did you manage to get it fixed?  I'm having the same problem on my boss' 3GS. I used iPhone Backup Finder tool to locate all of my backups on our machine. Of course it didn't find his phone which was backup up prior to updating (which means it should've backed up twice seeing it does it again during an update). The tool found 3 other backups which show no info and look different than the others. This also makes sense because this is the 3rd phone in a row that updated from this machine which lost the backups. He do I manually use those files, or try to, to restore from backup in iTunes?

  • Help Please: unable to delete "artist" from "purchased" in iTunes store

In my purchased (in iTunes) category, I am unable to delete the artist from my purchased music category in iTunes store.. When I clicked on the artist it shows me no songs but has a 2 written beside the artist name. Are the songs hidden?

Open your Purchased playlist, and make sure that the View menu is set to "As List" so that you can see everything that is there.
Are you trying to delete the item from your library, or only from that list?  If the latter don't bother, because the list is rule-driven and the item will immediately pop back in.  If the former, highlight the track(s) you don't want, hold Shift, and hit Delete.

  • Deleting Partial Ipad Backup

While backing up my Ipad, I ran out of space on my SSD hard drive.  Now I have zero space on my C: drive and cannot locate the partial backup in order to delete it and create 1GB of free space that I need and redirect Ipad backup to the D: storage drive.
Any ideas?  what is the name of the Ipad back file?  How can I delete it?  it does not show up in the Ipad menu as a restore point/file.

  • How to restore new ipad air from old ipad backup using itunes.

I'm trying to get all of the content from an old iPad onto new iPad air. I backed up the old iPad on iTunes, and when I plug in the new iPad air, it prompted that I must first update the software in order to back it up. I updated the software, but now I'm not sure how to get the old iPad backup onto the new iPad because it isn't seeing the new iPad as brand new anymore. How to I transfer the old stuff onto the new one after updating the software? I'm using iTunes for Windows.

    Hey jh232808,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you want to restore a backup to a new iOS device. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
    Restore using iTunes
Use these steps if you have a new iOS device, or you need to to restore after a factory reset:
Connect your device to the computer that has your backup.
Install the latest version of iTunes.
Choose File > Devices > Restore from Back up.
You won't be able to install a backup that uses a later version of iOS than the device you're trying to install it on. Find out why.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a good one,

  • How do I view content of iPad backup in iTunes like photographs

I am very new to this. I do not use iTunes for music or movie content. I have downloaded it to my Windows based laptop to sync content from my iPad mini. Specifically I do not want to lose iMessages and of course, Photographs. My question is how can I find and transfer the pictures from my iPad camera roll in iTunes and store them in a folder in My Pictures on my laptop? iTunes does not seem very intuitive to me. When I was in the Optus shop recently the guy showed me his iTunes on his computer and he had lots of different folders, some had his photos in, I have synced but cannot see how to get to the folders to check if my photos are all there OK. Can someone please help? Please use simple English I am reasonably tech savvy but I am not of the tech savvy generation. (A baby boomer lol) Thanks much.

You should really extract your photos from the Camera Roll using Windows Explorer, or set up Photo Stream so they are copied to your computer automatically. There are third party tools that allow access to the contents of iOS device backup sets. This is just one of them: http://www.imactools.com/iphonebackupviewer/ I haven't personally tested it. There are Mac & Windows versions despite the url.

  • HT1386 I replaced my iPad and now don't see the iPad backup in iTunes.  Any advice?  Should I use my latest iPhone backup or will that create problems?

I swapped out my broken iPad for a new one, and went to sync in iTunes and only see my iPhone backups.  Should I use those to back it up (most of the apps are the same across both, and same with the email, calendar, and contacts settings).  Will that create problems if I use the same backup for two devices?  Thanks!

No it will not create problems but if the iPad that you got is running an iOS less than what you are running on the iPhone, you will have to update the iPad first, before you can restore from the phone backup. You can't use the backup of a newer iOS on a device running an older iOS without updating the device first.

  • HT1766 how do I delete a previous backup? iTunes is telling me to do that

When syncing I get an error message saying the last backup is corrupt, to delete it and rebackup. I can'f figure out how to delete a back up - or where it even is located.

    iTunes>Preferences>Devices...highlight & delete here.

  • IPad backup with iTunes 12.1.2

After updating to OS X 10.10.3 and iTunes 12.1.2:
Local backup of iPad in iTunes on Mac stops all the time on time-out. (wire connected)
Sync and backup to iCloud works fine.
Anybody else encountered this and found a solution?

Check that you have the latest version of QuickTime (7.7.6) installed
Try varying the Play Audio Using setting in Edit > Preferences > Advanced (you'll need to restart iTunes for changes to take effect).  Most users experiencing playback issues who've found that this resolves the issue have reported that setting this to Direct Sound works.
If neither of these produce improvement (and assuming you're running a 64-bit edition of Windows) try installing this alternative version of iTunes:
iTunes 12.1.2 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
The "for older video cards" label is somewhat misleading; as with the previous 12.1 and 12.1.1 releases this provides a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installed, the same as all "64 bit" versions of iTunes prior to 12.1.  As well as video card incompatibility this version may address issues with playback as well as integration with third party tools.
For the third option, see also turingtest2's user tip on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps that may be necessary to completely remove all components of iTunes prior to re-installing.
