Unable to delete links: "XML structure element, not in layout"

Hello all,
I'm having an issue in InDesign where I'm unable to delete links appearing in multiple files that have even made their way into one of our templates. They do not list a page number where the object appears and clicking on the "< >" does nothing.
A cursory search of the InDesign forum yielded two results, both of which were answered by having the OP go into the document structure and delete stories from the Root (see below). In my document, however, there is NOTHING listed under Root in the structure. Where are these files and how do I get rid of them?
I'd really like to eliminate this problem before it spreads further. Any help?
Matthew

http://forums.adobe.com/message/2450330#2450330

Slight update: In another document the page number is listed as "DT." When I click on it I get this this message:
Links panel:
This document *does* contain elements in the structure but even when removed from the structure the items stay in the links panel. So my questions are:
1) Am I removing items from the structure incorrectly?
2) If I've already removed items from the structure, how do I remove the links that were associated with that content?

  • Missing images - "XML structure element, not in layout"

    I'm putting together handouts for several classes, which largely consists of copying and pasting text from Microsoft Word into InDesign CS5. Images I am placing manually. After re-organizing some of my files, one of my documents is now missing 118 links to images. However, none of these images are actually in my document - in the Links panel, each image says:
    "XML structure element, not in layout"
    Here's a screenshot of my links panel:
    These images are not supposed to be in the document at all. Clicking "Go To Link" does nothing. Is it possible that copy and pasting text from Word could have also copied the images in the Word document as well, without actually placing them on the pages? They now seem to be stuck in some kind of InDesign limbo.
    The only way I was able to get rid of them was to delete elements from the XML structure panel, however this deletes the content from my pages, which is not exactly helpful. Is there some way to just remove all of the missing image links from my document? Many thanks for any help!

    I was able to solve my problem. After displaying the Structure panel, I apparently had tons and tons of XML elements in the XML structure that were not placed in the document. I've never even seen the Structure panel before so this is totally new to me. I was able to delete all of the XML elements that were not placed in my document by checking their icons.

    when I scyn photo from pc to iphone , by using cable and selecting iphone on itunes, the photo which stored in my iphone , i am unable to delete some photo from them and even can not arrange them accoring to my wish, please let me know what to do ?

    you can only delete the photos you take on the phone itself as in from camera roll
    sync mean syncronize as in make the 2 side the same if you could delete the photos syncronized to your iphone then the nature of what syncronize mean result in the logic step being deleting the photo on your computer too
    you get rid of the photo by sync with another dir/ sourse or by moving the photo out of the dir of the computer and then resync

    Hi All
    I created a baseline test for my bpel process which reads an image from one server and does ftp to another server. But this baseline test invalidates and giving
    following 2 errors
    Error(40,35): <Line 40, Column 35>: XML-24521: (Error) Element not completed: 'result'
    Error(41,52): <Line 41, Column 52>: XML-24521: (Error) Element not completed: 'clpRmsImageResponseElement'
    These two errors are complaining about the following two tags on the xml source of the baseline.xml
    *</ns0:result>*
    *</ns0:clpRmsImageResponseElement>*
    The xml source of baseline.xml is as follows.
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>

  • MDIS ValueX XML Structure, element TEXT not found in xml schema

    When you extract ECC Contract through MECCM using port ERP Contract Data Transmission, if your mapping isn't correct 2 exception types are created: StructuralX or ValueX (and ImportX but I haven't seen this type of exception yet).
    Anyone noticed that the structure of the XML messages are actually different? The XSD for structuralX files are the same as the files placed in the "ready" folder, where as the XSD for the valueX files are DIFFERENT, and contain a tag called <TEXT>.
    This raises an issue when we're trying to handle exceptions in Import Manager using the type Port.  We get error "Logon Error: Source file does not conform to XML Schema. Element <TEXT> not found in xml schema".
    We can process exceptions in the structuralX folder, but not in the valuex folder because the xml file structure in the valuex folder is different.
    Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or has resolved it.  We will open message with SAP.
    Thanks.

    Hello
    What is your MDM version ?
    this issue happened in old MDM 7.1 versions but was fixed in SP-2 unless you mapped Clone fields and in this case the fix is a bit later.
    In MDM 7.1 the latest builds of SP-2 and SP-3 should have the fix for all issues. But if you use MDM 5.5 then some issues regarding XSD conversion for exception where not addressed due to technical issues.
    The workaround for MDM 5.5 (If you use a late build of SP-6 Patch-4 or SP-6 Patch-5)  is to use the original file to fix the exception and not the file in the exception folder.
    Please notice that when you have Structural exception then all the Source XML file will go to the Exception folder.
    But in case of Value Exception - The source XML file will be dropped in the archive folder and another XML file containing VXR's (Virtual Extended Records) will be dropped in the exception folder, Therefore will have a different structure.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks.
    Best Regards.
    Yaron.

  • Solar01 Structure Element Configuration

    Hi Solution Manager Gurus ,
    In transaction code Solar01 , There are three default available structure elements such as;
    - Organization unit,
    - Master data,
    - Business scenarios..
    as you know that I want to delete/configure these structure elements in terms deleting any of them and/or changing of the namespaces as whatever I want accordingly. I have just created on my own roadmap & flavors (ZPR_DTY_ROADMAP & ZPR_DTY_ROADMAP)  when i create my own project by means of SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN that has been constructed by Scope---> Roadmap Select with my own roadmap & flavors (ZPR_DTY_ROADMAP & ZPR_DTY_ROADMAP).
    Is it possible to modify and/or delete these default structure elements in terms of given above the scenario? Could you possibly help me in order to solve this issue accordingly?
    Kind Regards,
    Emrah

    hi

  • In Muse can you link to an element on another page?

    I was hoping that there was a way to link to an "element" (Not a page!) located on anther page either through Muse natively or by a script.  I'm not a coder or I wouldn't be using Muse.  I know you can link to other pages but I don't know about elements of other pages, specifically a "Lightbox" pop-up.
    I have a pop-up on a secondary page, lets say page 2, that I would like to also pop-up on anther page, lets say page 1, when clicked from page 1 but I don't want to have to put this Lightbox pop-up in two (both) locations because I actually have a couple hundred of these.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ryan.

    If you want the pop up on multiple pages you will need to put it on multiple pages. Or you could add the link to the pop up as well as the pop up itself to a template and create the pages that you want that pop up using that template. Another one you can try is to have your pop up on a page all by itself with no template or other content and then add the page to any other page using an iFrame.

  • [CS3 JS] Is it possible to export just the XML structure?

    Hello,
    I am using scripts to find various objects in an InDesign document and tagging them.
    I will then want to export the XML structure but not any of the content. I'm just learning XML and do not see a way to do this.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Share/export using QuickTime to an audio only codec such as MP3.

  • Xml structure being ignored

    XML structure in "Bus Card Order Form" created in inDesign is being ignored by Acrobat>Tools>Forms>More Form Options>Export Data.
    inDesign form also has DTD.
    1. inDesign "BC Order Form" is output to interactive pdf fillable form
    2. pdf filled form is then saved.
    3. XML is then exported per above, however XML structure does not match. Rather, root is redefined as "fields' and all fields are listed alphabetically.
    4. xml data does not flow into fields in BC template.
    Both "Bus Card Order Form' and 'BC Template' have matching xml structure.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Nevermind my previous post; I see the error in our own code. You're
    right; the file isn't being used. This will be fixed in our 2.5 final
    release. Sorry!
    In the meantime, I suggest you continue to use the 2.4

  • Remove Structured Anchored Frame  without disturbing the XML Structure - Reg.

    Dear All,
    Please any one help me!, How to remove the xml Structured Anchored Frame without disturbing the XML Structure.
    Manually If I'm removing the XML Structured Anchored Frame, the XML Structured is gone.
    I tried so many ways.  If  I am removing manually in Grouped Frame, then this problem is not happens.
    I mean, Create 2 separate frames Move any xml structured contents to that frames. Group that 2 frames and make it anchored.
    Now you can remove that anchored, this xml Structure is not disturbing (I mean not removed).
    If I did the same in above method for Single Text Frame, this xml Structure is gone.
    Kindly any one person resolve this problem, Thanks in advance!!!
    Note:
    (1) I tried through in InDesign CS6 Plug-In, this is working perfectly. But I need in Javascript to do this.
    Thanks & Regards

    Hm – if you can do it with a Group object, why don't you wrap around a group object?
    With ExtendScript it's quite possible to create Groups with only one single object.
    If we have a text frame selected, you could add a "helper" rectangle to the spread.
    Group the text frame and the rectangle, then remove the rectangle from the group.
    Now you have a Group with a single text frame.
    var myTextFrame = app.selection[0];
    var myHelperRectangle = app.documents[0].layoutWindows[0].activeSpread.rectangles.add();
    var myGroup = app.documents[0].layoutWindows[0].activeSpread.groups.add([myTextFrame,myHelperRectangle]);
    myGroup.rectangles[0].remove();
    app.documents[0].select(myGroup);

  • Mail sending problem with long xml structure

    Hello,
    we are sending IDocs through XI to a TOPCALL mail server
    by SMTP.
    In the RWD->message monitoring->adapter engine for the mailsender adapter the message looks fine and can be displayed in the internetexplorer.
    In TOPCALL suddenly the content in the XML structure contains a CARRIAGE, LINE FEED character in a line at position 1098. If this occurs in a tag, the XML structure is not valid anymore.
    Has somebody also experiences like this?
    How can I find out, from which system (SAP, TOCALL,...)this error comes from.?
    thanks for your help
    Werner Magerl

    Hi,
    I did not think the characterset and database would matter for this problem, but here is the info you requested.
    The database is an Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bi
    The characterset : NLS_CHARACTERSET     AL32UTF8
    And i don't have a clue about the characterset of the operating system (not even sure what the operating system is), but i think that will be utf-8 aswell.
    I'm not sure what i did, to come over as rude, but i didn't mean to and i apologize for it.

  • Delete xml element not used in document

    Hi,
    If you have a number of texts tagged with an xml element and then delete the text, the element still exist in the structure.
    You can see the element still connected to a text, by the blue diamond on the element symbol.
    But i want do delete the elements that have no connection to texts, but cant find the right property to look for.
    In Java script CS4.
    Anyone knows?
    /Mikael

    If the (text) element is unplaced, its parentStory will be an XmlStory rather than a Story.
    So try:
    var elements = app.activeDocument.xmlElements[0].xmlElements.everyItem().getElements();
    for (var i = elements.length - 1;i >= 0;i--){
        if(elements[i].parentStory.constructor.name === "XmlStory"){
            elements[i].remove();
    This is untested. If you have tagged graphics frames it will need to be modified to not error on those.

  • Unable to recreate replica as I cannot delete the xml files for the old VM on Hyper-v Cluster

    My setup
    There are 2 sites each running a Hyper-v 2012-R2 cluster comprising of 5 nodes each.
    All the machines are in a HA state and stored on the shared clustered resource.
    Initially we had replication working and it was replicating all the servers from Site A to Site B
    There were some replication issues which needed me to stop the replication and redo it again, in doing so I firstly removed replication on Fail-over cluster manager on Site A and did the same on Site B.
    On one of the servers I had to remove the VM, although the VM config and Disks still remain on the Site B Cluster.
    I was trying to recreate the replica but it always fails with the following error :
    Hyper-v failed to enable replication for virtual machine xxxxxxxx operation aborted (0x80004004).....
    I followed an article to stop the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management Service and try delete the file,
    When i tried to stop the service it would restart automatically and I was unable to delete the file. I put the service in disabled which kept it stopped however I was still unable to delete the files. I also tried to get File assassin which can help delete
    and clear locked files but it too was unable to delete it while the service was running or stopped as well as its additional mode whereby it will delete it on next reboot.
    The  Article Https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/4c4f2535-81ee-4a21-a920-b5632de2be37/hyperv-old-vm-folders-cannot-be-deleted?forum=winserverhyperv
     makes mention of stopping another service Hyper-V
    Image Management Service but I am unable to find it on 2012-R2 server.
    I have also tried to put the additional nodes in a paused drained roles state leaving only one node as the active one but it still will not let me delete the VM config
    files, without removing those files I cannot re-initiate the Replication.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Can you storage migrate any other vms or resources off of the CSV that contains the XML file in question? If so you may be able to then take that CSV offline, remove it from available storage, re-add as available storage, and add to CSV Volumes. Maybe
    that will clear your lock.
