Unable to deploy operating system.

We are currently running Configuration Manager 2012 R2
The site has been installed for about a year. Recently our task sequence for OSD stopped working saying that the Configuration manager client package cannot be located on the distribution point. I have checked
all of the packages and the status shows as ok. I have tried redistributing packages and even tried removing the distribution point role and re-adding the content but we still have the same issue.

Hi,
What does the Content status show for that package?
Have you been using a custom package to be able to add it to the DP share? Are you running the TS with "Access content directly from DP" if so a custom client package must be used and the option to make it availble in the DP share as well.
Boundary and Boundary Groups ok?

Jörgen

  • Error: Unable to manipulate operating system

In the CCM I have all services up and running, however, when I go to the CMC web page and look at the Servers, there are two servers in particular that are stopped and when I go to click on them to start I get a new page with the verbiage "Unable to manipulate operating system service for server".
What is causing the CMC to report this "error" whilst the CCM shows the service as up and running? I am logged on the server directly running both the CCM and CMC (not both at the same time).
My platform is XI R2 SP3.
    Thanks,
    John

    Gurusamy,
Did you try creating new service for the same type of service?
This is exactly what happened, on Monday morning I wound up creating a new service (actually every service except for the Central Management Server).  All other servers were sending a notice to the Apps log on the server "Fail to register with the nameserver.  Please check for name duplication and validness of name used".  Though no one in network ops is confessing, some type of naming convention was changed over the weekend causing all of our BO services to fail (except miraculously CMS).  So I followed SAP tech note #1199817 (add and start the services, delete the duplicate services), all done successfully via CCM, however, when I went over to the CMC side of the house, some of the newly established services indicated "stopped", which I found to be quite confusing, hence this post.  Tim's suggestion to delete the service in the CMC and allow it re-populate was the solution that worked.
    Thanks,
    John

  • Deploy operating system on specific VLAN

    Hello,
I need to cunfigure our SCCM 2012R2 for deploying operating system on specific VLAN.
I think that I need to configure DHCP server with PXE on SCCM server. After that, how can deploy operating system just for this VLAN? I can't find any tutorial for this scenario :(
    Thank you.

OK, assuming your need has nothing to do with setting up PXE then, you're only concerned about the
availability of the task sequence, and you want to limit it from Software Center while also being able to image new machines, then here is what you can do:
    1. You need to have an IP address range that covers the VLAN regardless or you won't get any content.
    2. For existing clients, create a query-collection for clients that fall within the IP range/subnet of the VLAN and deploy the task sequence just to that collection
    3. For new machines, be sure to deploy the task sequence to the All Unknown Computers collection

  • Unable to install operating system

I have a G4 Powerbook 1.5 ghz that I have been using for 1 1/2 years. All of a sudden my computer started acting slow and then I had a screen come up telling me to turn off my computer. After trying to restart, my computer is unable to do anything so I put in the Mac OS X Install DVD and run disk utility and it is unable to repair the hard drive. Then, I erased my system and started fresh and this worked for about a week and then I started having the same problem and I repeated the erase and install and it did this again. Now, I erased the system for the third time. I am trying to install the operating system again and have attempted this numerous times over the last few days and cannot get throught the whole installation. It just freezes while "Processing BSD Subsystem" in the installation. Any suggestions?
    15" powerbook g4 1.5 ghz   Mac OS X (10.3)

When you erased the hard drive, did this include reformatting the hard drive selecting HFS+ (or extended) with Journaling enabled?
Your hard drive may be failing or has failed.
When booting from the Panther install disc and navigating to Disk Utility via the Installer menu bar, what does the S.M.A.R.T. status indicate (at the bottom of the First Aid window) when selecting the hard drive at the very top of the drives and volumes window? When selecting the hard drive (not Macintosh HD which is the hard drive boot volume) includes the hard drive capacity in GB and an abbreviation for the hard drive manufacturer.
If the S.M.A.R.T. status for the hard drive does not indicate "Verified", your hard drive is failing or has failed which will require replacing the hard drive.

  • Deploying operating system and applications to branch distribution points

    Dears,
Is there a way to distribute the content of an operating system image or an application package manually to a branch distribution point to overcome network bandwidth limitation and let SCCM know it is distributed there or you still need to distribute
    content via SCCM console?
    Regards,

You will always need to perform action via the console (or do something similar via PowerShell). I think the options of prestaging content, or a pull distribution point could be beneficial for you. Have a look here for more information:

  • Operating System on x64 can be deployed with boot image x86

    Hi,
I want to know if there is any limitation to deploy Operating System and Wim image on x64 (64 bit) using a boot image x86 (32 bits)
    Thanks

    Hi,
That is what I'm trying to accomplish because during the years with SCCM 2007 we were available to deploy x64 OS
(windows 7, 8, 8.1) using x86 boot image without any problem. Since we migrated to SCCM 2012 R2 CU 2 we have experimenting different and
    intermittent issues:
we are using x86 boot image to deploy x64 OS and
x64 drivers package. When the system reboot to start the setup, we get a black screen with a movable cursor (but nothing to click on!).
when I change the task sequence to use x64 boot image (note: using the same x64 OS and same drivers package) the process continue with success.
I'm searching any technical documentation from Microsoft to better understand this issue. What can be the reason why it work fine with x64 boot image and not with x86.

  • Windows Phone Emulator is unable to connect to the Windows Phone operating system: The phone did not respond to the connect request. Some functionality might be disabled

We are receiving following error, while trying to deploy the application on Win Phone emulator. “Windows Phone Emulator is unable to connect to the Windows Phone operating system: The phone did not respond to the connect
request. Some functionality might be disabled.”
I have tried all possible ways that we found on blogs. We are still not able to solve this issue

I have had a lot of issues with the emulator in the past.
Check out this troubleshooting guide. It might help:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/jj681694(v=vs.105).aspx
Also, I find that if I cancel my build/deploy while it is stuck on booting the OS and then wait a short while the phone OS will complete booting, and from that point I can deploy to the emulator. It's a workaround, but it works well for me.
I need to do that on Windows 10 tech preview, which may or may not be simply an incompatibility with the beta OS.
I'm a self-taught noob amateur. Please take this into account when responding to my posts or when taking advice from me.

have verizon iphone 3g; recent upgrade of operating system.  suddenly calendar has wiped out all entries and am unable to add new ones.

Please define "tried to add the Image"?
OS Installer Packages do not point to "images". They point to the complete set of source files including the directory structure from the media.
Is there a specific reason you are using OS Installer packages though? In general, there is no reason to use them anymore (unless you are actually still deploying XP).

  • Unable to include Operator Interface in TestStand deployment

Hello.  I have created a test system using TestStand 3.5.
There is only one sequence file, and this sequence calls several VIs
that I have created in LabVIEW 8.0.  I would like to distribute
this test system to a target computer, which will then run the default
Operator Interface.  No bells and whistles, just plain and
simple.  However, I'm running into problems.
First, I created a Workspace file in TestStand.  I then added a
Project to it.  In the Project, I added all necessary files for my
project (the sequence file as well as all of the custom VIs).
Then I proceeded to follow the TestStand reference manual in order to
    deploy my system.
For reference, text in italics is the reference guide and text in bold is my comments.
    Deploying the TestStand Engine
    1. Launch the TestStand Deployment Utility by selecting Tools»Deploy
TestStand System from within the sequence editor.
I did this, and set up my build how I wanted it.
    2. On the System Source tab, enable the Deploy Files in TestStand User
    Directories option.
This option collects files from the <TestStand>\...\User
directories, so that any customizations that you have made to process
models, step types, language strings, and so on, will be distributed to
    the target computer.
I did this, and copied my Operator Interfaces\NI folder to Operator
Interfaces\User.  This would assure (I hope) that I would have the
default operator interfaces included in my project.
    3. On the Installer Options tab, enable the Install TestStand Engine
    option.
    Done.
    4. On the Installer Options tab, click Engine Options to launch the
TestStand Engine Options dialog box, which you use to select the
TestStand components that should be present in the installer.
    Done.  Everything is checked.
In the TestStand Engine Options dialog box, expand Operator
    Interfaces»Full-Featured in the tree view.
    a. Click the X next to LabWindows/CVI to include the
Full-Featured LabWindows/CVI Operator Interface in the engine
installation. The X should become a green checkmark.
    b. Click OK to accept the new settings and close the dialog box.
This is where things go wrong.  There is NO Operator Interfaces box in my tree view.  It simply doesn't exist.
I've tried several different builds using different strategies.
I've done builds with the CVI operator interface in the User directory,
and I've also tried copying over the files manually.  On the
target computer, I've always gotten either an error message (Could not
open the TestStand Engine), or else TestStand opens in evaluation
mode.  In both cases, my custom VIs and sequence files are nowhere
to be seen.  Can anyone shed some light on this?  It's
    driving me a bit crazy!
    Thanks very much,
    Brett Gildersleeve

    Hi Brett,
Whenever you deploy your TestStand application to target machines, you will always needs a license.  The licenses for distributing TestStand are different than for distributing LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI code modules.
LabVIEW does not require you to purchase any run-time licenses for a deployment system. You can even run LabVIEW VIs in VI format (not executables) from TestStand without using the development environment and without an additional license.
In order to run LabWindows/CVI code modules, you will need the LabWindows/CVI Run-Time engine which is also available free of charge.
Regarding TestStand, you will need a license for each machine that runs a TestStand sequence. TestStand has three types of licenses which are the TestStand Development System License, the TestStand Debug Deployment Environment License, and the TestStand Base Deployment Engine License.
    TestStand Development System License
The TestStand Development System License is required for any test sequence development and/or editing of existing TestStand sequence files that you perform within the TestStand Sequence Editor or programmatically using the TestStand API.
    TestStand Debug Deployment Environment License
The TestStand Debug Deployment Environment License gives you maximum flexibility for deploying TestStand and LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and Measurement Studio-based systems. This license allows you to install the development versions of TestStand, LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and Measurement Studio, along with any corresponding add-on toolkits, so that you can debug your test application on your deployed test station. This license does not include the ability to perform any development tasks within the TestStand Sequence Editor or programmatically using the TestStand API.
The TestStand Debug Deployment Environment License has debugging capabilities including settings breakpoints, monitoring variable values, and stepping into test code directly from the TestStand sequence.
(Note: This license does not provide the software but rather gives you the right to install a previously purchased piece of software on the target machine.)
    TestStand Base Deployment Engine License
The TestStand Base Deployment Engine License is the minimum license required for all deployed TestStand-based applications. This license allows you to deploy the TestStand Engine, a TestStand Operator Interface, and TestStand sequence files to the single test station for which the license is applicable.
The TestStand Base Deployment Engine License provides simple sequence debugging capabilities, including setting breakpoints and single stepping through test sequences in your Operator Interface. You cannot save sequences and open the sequence editor.
I hope this clears things up.
    Best Regards,
    Jonathan N.

  • Operating system not found when deploying to machines with two hard drives using MDT 2013.

Computers with two hard drives will not boot after the install OS step in the task sequence.  I get the "An operating system wasn't found.  Try removing drives that don't contain an operating system" error.  I am able to get the
machine to boot by swapping the hard drives' boot order, but the  task sequence won't complete after this.  The deployment works fine on machines with one hard drive, and I'm not getting any errors from the task sequence.  I'm deploying windows7
enterprise x64 using MDT2013.  This is a new custom image and task sequence generated using MDT2013.  I can't remove the second hard drive because there are scripts that run on the second hard drive during deployment and also because I don't desire
to remove and re-install 250 hard drives.  I've not experienced this problem with earlier versions of MDT.

The bdd.log file you sent does not show two internal drives, it shows only one.
