Unable to disable iCloud Drive

Recently, my mac has been running very slowly and I often have to force quit tasks (as I get the pinwheel- which will load indefinitely otherwise). I went to the apple communities and saw that many used Etrecheck to diagnose their hardware/software problems, so I ran the diagnostic and found that my CPU was being 99% used by a process called "bird."  Some research showed that this "bird" was linked to iCloud, so I disconnected all of my iCloud syncing, except for "iCloud drive" because every time time I try uncheck it, or try to sign out of iCloud completely, I get the pinwheel and have to force quit.
(I would have posted the Estrecheck diagnosis, however I got a message that said the content was restricted)

  • How to disable icloud drive?

I enabled icloud Drive when updating my iphone to ios 8, but Yosemite (wich is required on my mac to make my documents work with Drive) is not released in Norway until late october or later. My Q: How do I disable icloud drive now?

    Hi,
Thanks for both your responses. Well that was an unexpected answer. Oh well too late now.
At least now I know. Next time I'll say 'no' to everything to be sure
Thanking you kindly. I appreciate you quick response.
    Kind regards.

  • Unable to load iCloud drive

I,m trying to access iCloud Drive through iCloud.com, but when I log in and click on iCloud Drive, I get the error message, "Can't load iCloud Drive.  There was a problem loading the application."  I have always had this problem, I have never been able to access it.  It is activated on all my mobile devices and my iMac, all of which are running the latest versions of iOS and Mac OS X.

  • Why have reminders stopped synching on ios8 when iCloud Drive is switched on

i have shared reminder lists on my iPhone that are failing to sync onto my iPad now that both devices have iOS 8 installed. If I disable iCloud Drive then the sync starts working again. Any ideas why?

That is a great comparison of the different views of app specific folders and settings in iCloud.
I agree, it is confusing. Some of the differences are easily explained, but the inconsistency is confusing and irritating.
One reason for differences is probably caused by the transit from the old application centric "iCloud: Documents & Data" to iCloud Drive. Not all applications have yet been updated to the new scheme, for example GarageBand. It still cannot access iCloud Drive, but uses the old "document&Data".  I hope, that will happen soon. But I doubt, that we ever will be able to open GarageBand for Mac projects with GarageBand iOS on mobile devices, at least if want the projects to sound the same on the mobile device. The mobile devices are still too limited to hold the full sound library and to bring the same processing power as the mac.

  • How do I share one folder on iCloud Drive

Me and my wife have different AppleID. We are going paperless and want to share one folder either on my or her iCloud Drive.
Using a mutual Dropbox account today but want to be inside Apples ECO-system.
Called Apple and they told me not possible. Are they correct?

AsI said - you have to open the application folders and delete the documents  inside - for each folder separately. And wait for these changes to sync.
The folders themselves cannot be deleted, only their content.
The iCloud setting for the applications are device specific. If you enabled an app for iCloud on any device, you will see the application collection in iCloud, even if you disable it on other devices.
If one disables the apps in the iCoud System Preferences, their folders disappear in the finder but are still in the cloud -- and there is a big pile of other garbage.
First delete the documents in the folders, until they are empty on iCloud, then hide the folders on your devices by disabling the app in the "Manage my storage" iCloud preferences.
I want to reliably delete ALL data (including any folders or metadata Apple lets us not see) -- a complete reset for iCloud Drive
You can only delete documents you move to iCloud drive, not Apple's maintenance files.
And you can only reset each device individually, that is using iCloud Drive, by disabling iCloud Drive, rebooting, signing in again. But you cannot reset the central storage in iCloud.
    - and there is a big pile of other garbage.
What kind of other garbage, beside the application collections?

  • Where is iCloud drive data stored?

What happens when I have more data in iCloud than I do on any of my devices that I choose to sync with?

What happens when I have more data in iCloud than I do on any of my devices that I choose to sync with?
You could disable iCloud Drive on selected Macs and simply use the web interface to upload and download. That will avoid the local shadow copies.

  • I don't want iCloud drive anymore, what do i do?

I would like my devices to sync back up to iCloud like they used to, is there anyway to remove iCloud drive ?

    Hi there ashley_c16,
You may find the information in the article below helpful. Please note, enabling or disabling iCloud Drive does not effect iCloud Backup.
    iCloud Drive FAQ

After I upgrade to iCloud Drive, can I downgrade and go back to using Documents in the Cloud?
No, after you upgrade to iCloud Drive, you can't go back to using Documents in the Cloud. You can turn off iCloud Drive by going to Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive. If you turn off iCloud Drive, your documents and data will no longer be kept up to date across all of your devices.
What if I already upgraded to iCloud Drive but still have devices with iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks?
You won't be able to use iCloud Drive on these devices until you update to iOS 8 or OS X Yosemite. If you already upgraded your account and need to use a device that doesn't support iCloud Drive, you can still work on your documents locally, but they won't be kept up to date with documents on your devices with iOS 8 or OS X Yosemite, or on iCloud.com.

  • Why can't I see iCloud drive in finder

Although I updated my Mac with Yosemite I am unable to see iCloud drive in Finder. Now what?

Go to the Finder Preferences and enable iCloud Drive to be shown in the Finder's sidebar:
Then you'll be able to access it via:

  • ICloud drive not syncing on yosemite

So I use iCloud drive quite extensively across my iPhone, iPad, mac and iCloud.com.
All devices (including iCloud.com) always seem to be kept in sync, except my mac. I'll find files that are more than 24 hours out of sync with the rest of my devices.
    Any thoughts?

Did this recently start happening?  I use the same devices and starting this past weekend, experienced the same issue.
Last night, I disabled iCloud Drive on my Mac and re-enabled it and that was a big mistake, as on my Mac iCloud drive has been "setting up iCloud Drive..." for the last 12 hours.   For me, iCloud has worked perfectly until his past Saturday.
If I open Keynote, I can see document, but they all look like this (iCloud waiting to download)
For an experiment, I disabled iCloud Drive and re-enabled on my iPhone and now it has been stuck at updating for the last 12 hours:
If I look in my router's client list, I can see there is no activity from my iPhone or iMac, so it appears to be waiting on iCloud.
One last experiment, I update a presentation on my iPhone and it immediately gets uploaded to iCloud, so this appears to only be a download issue.

  • HT6312 I updated to iCloud Drive prematurely and want to revert back to iCloud. Is that possible?

How can I (or can I) revert to regular iCloud so that my documents can be easily accessible, editable, and sharable across my 4 Apple devices which I use daily?

No, sorry. There is no way back.  You can disable iCloud drive, but it will not enable "Documents in the Cloud" again. You can only wait for Yosemite to be released.  See the links below:

  • Unable to compile LaTex on iCloud Drive

Hi - I've just moved over to using iCloud drive to store my work. However I have hit a snag. Most of my documents that I write are written in LaTex. When I try to compile a document stored on iCloud drive it seems to fail (see screenshot), it appears that iCloud drive prevents the software from writing temporary files to iCloud drive. Any tips on what I should do?
If I run the same document but have the files on my desktop then it compiles fine. It just seems to be a problem when they are stored in the iCloud drive. Is there anything I can do to fix this writing issue?
    Thanks,
    Ben

Install the app that has the folder you want removed if it is not still installed on your iOS device.
From that iOS device go to Settings>iCloud Drive>
Turn off the folders which you would like to remove then delete the app.

  • Unable to read an "iCloud Drive Saved" html file on my Iphone

    Hi,
I have saved an HTML file on my MAC to my iCloud Drive Docs folder.
Now I woud like to view that on my iphone.
I go to Pages, I can see the file, but cannot open it

Firefox reports that it is my default browser. I changed the default browser to Chrome and then back to Firefox, in case that's what you meant by "redo." Right-clicking and picking Firefox in the Open With menu works, but double-clicking the file or just picking Open in the right-click menu does not.
I don't know why this is. Could it be due to a version update? I've noticed that Google Notifier's "Go to Inbox" no longer opens up Gmail in Firefox either.

  • Getting a cloud symbol with a ! in it for certain Pages files saved to icloud drive; unable to pull them up on other devices

In the last few days when I save a Pages document to the iCloud drive and list the contents of the drive it shows a cloud symbol with an ! in it and a bar in the size column.  The document shows up on another device with a line along the bottom, but it can't be opened in the new device.

  • Can't see icloud drive folder in Windows 7

    Hi all,
    I'm running Windows 7 and icloud 4.0.
I'm familiar with apple products, and have followed all requirements to enable icloud drive on my ipad and iphone.
However I am unable to find the icloud drive icon/folder in Windows explorer on my PC.
When I select the checkbox to enable icloud drive within icloud on my PC then press 'apply', nothing happens. If I close icloud and then re-open it, the checkbox has returned to the unchecked state.
I've tried uninstalling then reinstalling icloud, no difference.
By the way, it all seems to run fine on my Windows 8 devices.
I can't find anyone else with a similar issue...any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

Great you have figured it out finally. Just thought you should know that there is a bug in 11gR2 client and because of that Oracle driver version is shown as 11.1.0.7 instead of 11.2.0.2. This can be confusing 6 months or a year later down the road if you wanted to go back and upgrade your client to, let's say' 12g. To fix this, there is a patch available from Oracle metalink, patch id is p11731183 for 32bit and p11731184 for 64bit windows. This bug is mentioned in 1308617.1

  • How to delete photos in disabled iCloud library

I asked few days ago in the iCloud forum help with photos reappearing in the iCloud Photos app and unable to reduce the size of my library. (post HT204410) So far no suggestions and today I tried to start from scratch and delete all. However I ran into other issues and hope this Photos forum can provide solutions:
    1) I disabled the iCloud Photos Library option on iPhone, iPad and iMac. There were >3000 photos and videos in the library
    2) Using iCloud via Safari webbrowser there is a message displayed that iCloud Photo Library has been disabled and that I have 30 days to download my pictures.
    3) I do have copies and just want to delete all in the iCloud Photo Library using the Safari browser.  However when I select photos the option to delete is greyed out?  (see picture below)
Question 1: Is there any way I can fully delete the iCloud Photo Library faster?
    4) I created a new Photos system library (using the <option> key at start up) and in the Photos preference made this the new system library.
    5) When I connect my iMac again to the iCloud Photo Library with this empty library it download all the photos I also can see in the browser.
    6) Both in the webbrowser and on the iMac the message that the iCloud Photos library is disabled remains even after connecting them again. It shows in red in the system preference panel for iCloud (with the library ticked on? - picture below)) and in the preferences with the Photos app on the iMac (Yosemite 10.10.3) , but with different number of days remaining (29 vs 30)?). I can not find the option to cancel this deletion from the iCloud preferences.
Question 2: Anyone able to advise were to find this cancellation option?
    6) When I delete pictures on the iMac in the Photos app these are not synced with the iCloud Photos Library, at least in the browser no updates are happening ( and also still cannot delete any of the pictures...
Conclusion: I have not been able to rectify the problem, but have made it worse with a disabled iCloud Photos Library that populates a new library created on the iMac, but does not respond to changes.
Anyone who can help much appreciated.
    Thanks, Henk

If you mean Photo Stream, just go to icloud.com, log in, click on your name in the upper right, click on advanced, and then choose reset Photo Stream.  That removes all photos stored there.
