Unable to disable pinch & zoom - SnowLeopard

I am losing my mind... I use my MacBookPro with the trackpad most of the time, and although I have disabled all pinch & zoom in the System Prefs, I am still plagued by many applications that are still pinching & zooming.
Is this a function of newly updated programs, or is there another setting that I have missed?
Using the trackpad constantly, my thumb & index finger are ususally poised over the trackpad, and more often than not, the screen zooms or shrinks.
It's bad enough when a window's content changes in size unexpectedly, but when the desktop icons also change, and then mess up my desktop order, that is really bad.
How can I disable this completely?
Thanks, Peter

Thanks Zyriab,
but in Snow Leopard settings, all I have is "Screen Zoom" and "Pinch Open & Close", both of which are unchecked.
I have no "Scroll & Zoom" and no "smart zoom" options...

  • How do I disable pinch zoom?

    I just bought a 17" MacBook Pro Unibody, I was very happy with it at first. Unfortunately whenever I use Safari the trackpad thinks I am trying to zoom in on the page, but I am not. How do I turn this off, in the control panel it just shows a video of how to do it. I have watched myself use the trackpad and I am not pinching the trackpad, I am trying to scroll down but instead it zooms, all the time. Is there anyway to turn this off, if not I'm just going to return this computer, it's very irritating.

    get the program: MultiClutch (free, but please donate as it really takes care of some serious issues).
    With multiclutch you can add safari and reconfigure the pinch zoom shortcut to something irrelevant like Shift + alt + cmd + ^ and that will disable the accidental pinch zoom.
    Also there is a plugin for Photoshop that disables accidental rotating! Again free, from Adobe.
    Now all I need is the option to ignore if I rest my thumb on the trackpad where there used to be a click-area on previous MBP's...

  • Wanting to disable pinch to zoom on TouchSmart 310 PC

    I have our computer set up in kiosk mode to use as a sign in for our volunteers. I would like to disable the pinch/zoom feature so the screen stays at one resolution.
    Does anyone know how this is possible?

    I have the exact same issue. Is there a windows registry setting which can be used to disable zooming?

  • Disable pinch to zoom

    Hi,
    I sometimes accidentally pinch my trackpad over the desktop, making all the icons bigger and forcing me to rearrange them the way I'm used to having them. How can I disable pinch on my desktop without disabling it in other applications (safari, preview....)
    Thanks,
    K.

    Bugged me for ages as well. One thing that seems to work (hooray...)
    1/ Install BetterTouchTool http://blog.boastr.net/?page_id=195
    2/ In BTT select "Application Finder" and "Touchpad"
    3/ Add new gesture twice, set one to Pinch In, the other to Pinch Out
    4/ Keep the assigned action / shortcut empty [...or assign it to a script that says "Hooray... Not zooming" if you prefer ...]

  • Reconsider an option to disable pinch-to-zoom...

    Hi there.
    I know that I have created a topic like this before, but I would like to ask you to reconsider adding an option to disable pinch-to-zoom on iOS, when controlling the mouse pointer in the Remote Desktop app.
    I have use Remote Desktop for iOS every day, pretty much since the day it came out, and it is far superior to any other remote app on the market in my opinion.
    But I really can't stand the pinch-to-zoom feature that was suddenly added.
    I use two-finger-scroll a lot, but it really annoys me that 80-90% of the time the app thinks I want to zoom instead, even though I'm very precise in planting my two fingers horizontally and dragging them straight up-and-down.
    And you would think that if you are able to add a new feature you should definitely be able to add an option to disable it for those that don't want to use it.
    I really hope you will reconsider adding that option, because using the other control mode where pinch-to-zoom is disabled is not really an option for me.
    Thanks in advance and many greetings from Denmark.

  • Disable pinch gesture in Safari

    Is there a way to disable the pinch gesture to "zoom out" and see the tabs in safari?
    I find that it gets activated very easily when using the trackpad and keeps showing me the tabs. I prefer to use CMD+SHIFT+\ for that.

    Me too... this is actually the reason I can't use Safari as my default browser, despite wanting to. The inadvertent gesture keeps showing all tabs, which is so interruptive and annoying as to drive me away.
    I need pinch-zoom in too many other apps to disable it globally. Interestingly, I don't find myself constantly triggering it in those other apps, or if I do, the consequences are so trivial that I don't notice it and it doesn't interrupt by train of though or require a complete cognition reset in the way switching to tabs does.
    Safari's interpretation of "zoom out" to include switching from re-scaling content in the current window to going up to tab view is a non-standard one that I'm afraid is just too clever by half. It's a cool idea, but since it's different from all other apps treatment, should be an app-specific preference that can be disabled.
    I hope Apple makes this an app option override soon. I grew tired of Firefox's constant craving for additional memory, and would like to get away from the sense that Chrome tracks me in ways that the best blockers can't really seem to stop. But I'm accepting both of those over this aggravating window behavior.

  • My TABLET Pc WILL Not Pinch Zoom

    I have a Samsung Slate Tablet pc that will not pinch zoom. I have changed the relevant about:config settings and restarted firefox but still no joy.

    Which exact model of AirPort Express do you have? Which wireless security type is it configured for? Does your Windows XP PC support this type? Can the PC connect if you disable wireless security on the AirPort?

  • Loss of pinch zoom functionality. On newspaper sites

    LA Times, NY Times, WAPO  articles viewed in Safari on iOS devices  have recently  had the pinch-zoom functionality removed. Apple has confirmed this. The layout of the pages look similar. This is not a mobile version - same version has it on MBP.

    Hello Machine Master,
    Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, clearing the browser cache and cookies did not fix the problem.
    One additional piece of information I'd like to add - the problem only occurs on the mobile version of these sites. If I manually switch to the desktop version of Google or Wikipedia, then zooming works fine.
    Since you are unable to reproduce the problem, I'd suspect it might only be an issue with certain phones or the LG software. I'd be interested to hear if others with this phone (and not running a custom ROM) have encountered this problem.

  • No pinch / zoom / rotate?

    Hi,
    I can't figure out how to enable Windows multi touch. These seem like fairly basic features now days but I can't seem to find a setting to turn them on? Anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks.

    I running Windows 7 Pro and when I installed my new Intuos 5 touch I found I did not like two finger pinch zooming and rotate in Photoshop CS6. So I configured the Wacom to disable those touch features when I'm in Photoshop.  I do not know what windows version you running or what touch device your using.  Look around on your system see if there is any touch configuration utility installed for your touch device. Windows 7 control panel also has a Pen and Touch applet that has some tabs: pen options, Fliks and Handwriting.  I left windows pen options at the default settings. I turned off Windows Flicks for they did not work well with the wacom tablet.  Wacom has its own touch settings.  I did nothing in the Handwriting tab.
    If you can not find a configuration utility installed for your touch device.  You most likely need to enable Windows Flicks and perhaps do come custom setting in there.

  • HP G62-347NR Multitouch pinch zoom

    I just bought my G62 laptop, but I can't seem to use the zoom in/out function on the touch pad. I opened up Synaptics settings and it says that PInch Zoom is enabled (it is checked) but I can't zoom in/out in my web browser when I pinch the touchpad. Please help!

    Right Click on Synaptic icon in system tray...It will give you below option, Uncheck 'Disable Gesture' and check....

  • Prevent pinch & zoom?

    Hi!
    I'm going insane.
    I've tried everything to disable page zooming on my phone layout...

  • The new version of Firefox does not seem to allow multi-touchscreen pinch/zoom feature. Is this a bug or is there something I can do to fix the problem? Thanks.

    Since the new version of Firefox (which I love, esp the reduced menu bars at the top, leaving more web page viewable space), I am unable to use the multi-touch pinch/zoom function to resize pages. the scrolling still works, and all worked fine before.
    Is this a bug or is there something I can do to fix it?
    Thanks for your time.
    Mx

    Not a fix but if it's just a web site here and there that you find yourself using the pinch zoom feature you can use the IE Tab 2 addon to automatically use the ie engine and the zoom works.
    You lose the other firefox features on those pages but as I said, if it's just a few sites it's worth a look.
    I sure hope the Mozilla community fixes this in their desktop PC version soon. You can't gripe if it's free so I just keep waiting. :)
    Their android and iOS version supports it so why not the PC version?

  • Macbook Pro Pinch/Zoom feature does not work with Firefox 6

    Can someone please tell me how to fix this major problem?
    I can not get the Pinch/Zoom feature on the track pad to work on my Macbook Pro. I am running OS 10.6.8.
    I have seen this below in other posts, and have tried it, but it STILL does not work !!!!
    '''''Some gestures have been removed in Firefox 4.
    '''You can restore the zoom feature by changing the values of the related prefs on the about:config page.
    '''browser.gesture.pinch.in -> cmd_fullZoomReduce<br>
    '''browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> cmd_fullZoomReset<br>'''
    '''browser.gesture.pinch.out -> cmd_fullZoomEnlarge<br>'''
    '''browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> cmd_fullZoomReset<br>''''''
    '''To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.'''
    '''If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.'''''''''''
    Please someone help me - this is a great feature and its really pissing me off that I can't use it.
    HELP !!!

    I'VE TRIED THIS:
    browser.gesture.pinch.in -> cmd_fullZoomReduce
    browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> cmd_fullZoomReset
    browser.gesture.pinch.out -> cmd_fullZoomEnlarge
    browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> cmd_fullZoomReset
    browser.gesture.pinch.latched -> false
    I'VE TRIED ALL OF THE ABOVE NUMEROUS TIMES AND IT DOES NOT WORK ON MACBOOK PRO AND FIREFOX 6.
    CAN ANYBODY HELP? THANKS ♥

  • Why isn't pinch & zoom working in articles viewed on Adobe Content Viewer

    I'm not sure why I'm not able to get the pinch & zoom feature to work when viewing articles on iPad Adobe Content Viewer? I've saved my DPS articles as PDF, but it's not working. I'm on a first generation iPad with ioS 4.3.3, with Adobe Content Viewer version 2.9. I've tried saving the article in a variety of versions from v20 to v23, but no luck. I appreciate your help. Thank you.

    Hello Neil,
    I was following your posts. I am making a folio with the article type set to PDF.
    Still the PDF only can zoom in the vertical version and not in the horizontal version. Also the PDF is with zooming not sharp!
    What do I have to do to make everything work well!
