Unable to Discover C240 M3 on UCS environment

Hi All,
Does anyone know of an instant where C240 M3 servers are not discovered, in a UCS 2248/N2K (2232PP) environment. FI is running 2.1(a) and the C servers' firmware is 1.5. We are trying to connent through the single-wire management configuration, but we ar unable to disocever the servers.
Has anyone else esxperinced a similar issue ?
Regards,
Naleendra

Dear Manuel,
Please see the answers below,
For this particular set up you can only use the 2232 FEXes, I believe the 2248 are not supported
We are using 2232PP
What adapter are you using for this setup (VIC P81E or 1225)? Single-Wire is only supported by the VIC 1225 the P81E
VIC 1225
What is the Boot loader version running on the VIC?
Recommended — 2.1(0.457a)
Minimum required — 2.1(0.367e)
It's 2.1 (cannot remember exact version, will check tomorrow)
What slot is the VIC installed? for this server it should be PCIe slot 2
PCIe 2
Can UCSM is able to see the server at all or just the FSM is falling to discover the server?(screenshots are useful)
UCSM cannot see a single server. (There are 6 C240 M3 servers.)
Make sure the server is connected the same way as the screenshot below.
It is single wire Management
We have two cables (10g) going from VIC to each N2K.
4 cables (10g) connect from each N2k to upstream 6248 FIs (first 4 ports)
We see two FExes and their backplane ports show as up but servers are not discovered.
Appreciate any other suggestion.
Thanks,
Indika.

  • Connectivity between blades in Cisco UCS environment

We're trying to setup a UCS environment for testing purposes, and seem to be unable to establish any connectivity between servers within the UCS. At the moment, the environment has no upstream LAN connectivity and therefore no uplinks defined on the fabric interconnects. We had wanted to run the test within the UCS keeping it isolated, and connect in via the management interface to UCS Manager. I suppose my question is, is it possible to get the blades to talk to each other without uplinks defined and connection to an external network?
    Many Thanks - Lee

Further to what has been mentioned, you can stay in end-host mode but change the behaviour for no uplinks, which is the Network Control Policy.
Not sure where it is on the GUI (it may be CLI only) but its described at http://ciscosystems.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/sw/cli/config/guide/1.0.2/CLI_Config_Guide_1.0.2_chapter15.html
    The config item is
    set uplink-fail-action {link-down| warning}
    The description is
Specifies the action to be taken when no uplink port is available in end-host mode.
Use the link-down keyword to change the operational state of a vNIC to down when uplink connectivity is lost on the fabric interconnect, and facilitate fabric failover for vNICs. Use the warning keyword to maintain server-to-server connectivity even when no uplink port is available, and disable fabric failover when uplink connectivity is lost on the fabric interconnect. The default uplink failure action is link-down.
When you have no uplinks all the NICs look down! This is by design. Remember you have a fabric A and a fabric B. When you have a fabric that gets isolated do you want it to fail the Ethernet links so that the blades know about it and the network failover software in your OS can send the data over the working fabric. Or do you want your blade to not know and keep sending data out, but if its destined for outside the environment its not going to get there.
Hopefully that adds some more clarity to your situation.

  • SNMP monitoring of UCS environment

    Hello,
We use Level Platforms (Managed Workplace Service Center)  to monitor the environments my company supports.
We have an On Site Manager installed within a UCS environment which will monitor host IPs, etc.
The question is the best way to monitor the rest. (blades without service profiles assigned, etc.)
I was configuring new Policy Modules in Service Center and need to import MIBs, and wondered which ones would be needed. There are many for the UCS platform, and I thought maybe I was going about it all wrong.
    For reference, we have 6 chassis and @ 42 blades, 2 6248s. Actually, it's a VCE vBlock

I'm able to set up traps via the EM website following these instructions:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/em.102/b40002/notification.htm
However, what I'm really looking for is the ability to do snmp gets. I need functionality similar to how the old school DBSNMP under OMS used to work. These commands seem to be totally missing. I found the following documentation:
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/em.102/b16244/chap2.htm#sthref74
Which indicates there should be an snmp subfolder under $ORACLE_HOME/sysman, but that folder does not exist in my installation. I installed Oracle EE. Is there another package I need to install in order to make the subagent run like a normal snmp agent?
So far if I do a:
    emctl start dbconsole
that starts up the EM Website and I can use that no probelm. If I...
emctl start agent -- I get:
    Starting agent ... started.
issuing a 'emctl staus agent' gives me a normal status message. Things start to get strange when I try to start the subagent, which to my understanding is what I need running in order to to talk to net-snmp, which is the master agent running on this host. Here's what happens:
    [zaro@cheetah bin]$ ./emctl start subagent
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.2.0.1.0
Copyright (c) 1996, 2005 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
    Starting sub agent .....started
    [zaro@cheetah bin]$ ./emctl status subagent
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.2.0.1.0
Copyright (c) 1996, 2005 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
    Sub agent is not running..
I guess my question is how do I get to have the ability I used to have back in 8i to start up dbsnmp and then have my SNMP monitoring app "discover" the agent and use its instrumentation to get data?

  • E72 unable to discover BH-216 headset?

    Greetings!
I have just bought a Nokia E72 to replace my old Nokia 6120c. Now, the 6120c was a great phone, but lacking a full keyboard as well as WLAN and GPS made me go for the E72.
Now, I have a strange problem: The E72 is unable to discover my BH-216 BT headset, that was previously paired to the 6120c, and works perfectly with the old phone.
The E72 however is unable to even detect the BH-216, and I do not know why? I already deleted the pairing on my 6120c, but I don't think this has any effect? Do I need to do anything special to get this to work?
    I'm puzzled by this problem...
    Thanks!

    Dammit.
Next time I should really read the freaking manual...
Obviously, the BH-216 stores its pariring. Switch BH-216 off, then back on (hold on/off button for 6 seconds until green LED starts to flash rapidly) => Device open for discovery and new pairing.
    Haha.
    My fault.

  • OEM 12c unable ot discover Weblogic 10.0.1.0

I have OEM 12c grid installed and Agent 12c running on the remote host. I have weblogic 10.0.1.0 installed in the remote host. The agent is unable to discover the domain. It is failing with below error...
"Failed to discover WebLogic. Check host, port, credentials, protocol and be sure the server is running and the same farm is not already added. This UI can not be used to discover WebLogic version 7.x to 8.x. Exception: No targets discovered"
I can login to the console appication with the ip:port and credentials.. but failing while trying to discover thru the Grid Control.
I get below error in the OMS log...

I then created a empty doman on the same remote host for the same weblogic version. I was able to attch this one and not the other domain.
I am ruling out OM Grid Server - Agent connectivity issues, since the new empty domain I created can communicate to server.
I tried to check what is different between domains...
The WLD that has the issue is a clustered Domain , and has:
    - 9 Managed Servers
    - Not SSL enabled
    - Many Application deployed
    - JDBC connections
    - has a custom build authentication provider for Authentication. But i made sure the user id is valid and even can login to the console.
** The new Domain is an empty one - no applications deployed.
Can you please help understand why I am not able to attach the domain?

    Hi SathyanarrayananS:
Thank you for your support, when you say "are there any chance they are UDF or View" you mean if I could create and UDF or View with those tables?, because both tables are physical.
I am already readed the link and IMHO my query does not meets on any of examples provided.
As you can see, the first joins using the table, does not cause NJP, but when we apply the third join is when the NJP arise.
Do you need additional information about my schema?
    Best regards.

  • Unable to discover local disks in T5220

    According to http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35328_01/E35332/html/vmusg-storage-types.html#vmusg-storage-local
I should be able to use extra disks in a T5220 to store VMs:
Local storage consists of hard disks installed locally in your Oracle VM Server. In a default installation, Oracle VM Server will only use the first disk (/dev/sda), leaving other disks available for storage.
As long as no partition and data are present the device will be detected as a raw disk. The choice is yours to use the local disks either to provision logical storage volumes as disks for virtual machines or to install a storage repository. If you place a storage repository on the local disk, an OCFS2 file system is installed.
But I am unable to discover these disks using Oracle VM Manager 3.2.2.520, managing a host running Solaris 11.1 with latest version of VM Server for SPARC:
    # pkg list | grep ldom
    consolidation/ldoms/ldoms-incorporation     0.5.11-0.175.1.9.0.4.0   i--
    system/ldoms    0.5.11-0.175.1.9.0.2.2    i--
    system/ldoms/ldomsmanager    3.0.0.4-0.175.1.9.0.4.0    i--
I suspect that it is because "partition and data are present" on the disk, but I don't know how to delete partitions with the format command, only change them to unassigned and zero length, and that didn't work:
    partition> p
    Current partition table (original):
Total disk cylinders available: 46873 + 2 (reserved cylinders)
Part      Tag    Flag     Cylinders         Size            Blocks
      0 unassigned    wm       0                0         (0/0/0)             0
      1 unassigned    wm       0                0         (0/0/0)             0
      2     backup    wu       0 - 46872      279.38GB    (46873/0/0) 585912500
      3 unassigned    wm       0                0         (0/0/0)             0
      4 unassigned    wm       0                0         (0/0/0)             0
      5 unassigned    wm       0                0         (0/0/0)             0
      6 unassigned    wm       0                0         (0/0/0)             0
      7 unassigned    wm       0                0         (0/0/0)             0
I can't make slice 2 size zero, otherwise when I run label to write the changes I get an error.  Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?  Thanks!

The reason you can't do this, is that the currently shipping support for Oracle VM Manager on SPARC systems is only for NFS.  The paragraph you are quoting is from the base Oracle VM manual and that section applies to x86.  /dev/sda is a Linux convention, not Solaris, so it wouldn't apply here.
If you go to the Oracle VM Server for SPARC documentation at Oracle VM for SPARC Documentation  and then select View Library for Release 3.0 at
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37707_01/index.html
you will see a page with all the documents for the current release. Pick the "Oracle VM Manager 3.2: Quick Start Guide for Managing Oracle VM Server for SPARC" at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/vm/ovm3-sparc-quick-start-guide-1900072.pdf
You are running the correct version of Solaris 11 and the logical domains manager, so you should be able to discover the server, networks, and file-based repositories, but you'll have to wait till a later release provides support for local disk, FC SAN, and iSCSI.  I hope this helps explain the situation.

  • To be unable to discover a Nexus 5548 wirth DCNM 5.2(2e)

    Hello,
I am unable to discover 2 Nexus 5548 with the SAN client of DCNM 5.2(2e)
These Nexus are used like LAN and SAN switch. Each Nexus is a SAN fabric. I would want to use DCNM in order to configurate the zone/zoneset via GUI. These Nexus 5548 run 5.1(3)N2(1b) release.
The Nexus ARE NOT managed  via the Mgmt interface (OOB) but they are managed via an interface vlan (InB)
    I could not configure rightly
    - the snmp-server user (SNMP user V1/v2 or V3 + group ? )  CLI on Nx
    - to configure the discovery in order that DCNM discover each fabric either from web GU interface or java SAN client
    Please help !

I believe DCNM requires an ssh login to the Nexus and not SNMP.
DCNM uses Netconf over SSH protocol. See this earlier posting.

  • Cisco UCS Manager not discovering C240 server

    Hello, Cisco community!
Currenlty UCS manager shows two Fabric Interconnects, and two Fabric Extenders, but for some reason my server isn't showing up
Here is the birds eye view:
I have my C240 connected with two 10GbE twinax cables, each going to one fabric extender. (2 FEX total)
I have two 10GbE twinax cables connected from the fiber module of each FEX to each Fabric interconnects. (2 FI total)
The fabric interconnect ports L1 and L2 ports are connected to their corresponding ports. So their connected to each other.
I run 'show cluster extended-state' on the primary FI and this is what i get:
    FI-A# show cluster extended-state

    eth1, UP
    eth2, UP
    HA NOT READY
No device connected to this Fabric Interconnect
After configuring the server-side ports on each FI, the server still doesn't show up
    Any idea are highly appreciated!!
    -Alex

It's good to know that the Fabric Interconnects don't need upstream connectivity, so we can scratch that from our list of possible issues.
For clarity, here are the important firware versions:
    CMIC - 1.5(3), cisco recommends a minimum of 1.4(6)
    BIOS - 1.5.1c, cisco recommends a minumum of 1.4.7a
    vNIC - 2.1(1c), cisco recommends a minumum of 2.1(0.367e)
So, we can cross out firware mis-matches from the list.
    wdey,
I tried going trough UCS Manager and looking where i could configure the out-of-band IP management pool, but I can't find the right place to do that. Here is a screen shot of the VLAN tab of my UCS Manager.
Could you eleborate more on the process of how to do this? This might fix the issue.
Also, I noticed that in the BIOs setting screen, under Advanced -> LOM and PCIe Slots configuration -> PCIe Slot ID: 2(VIC 1225) it says Option ROM Status Not Loaded. Do you think this might have something to do with server discovery?
Thanks alot for the help guys It's really much apprecaited.

  • Unable to discover wordpress file in CS5

    Hello everyone,
This is the first time I have dabbled with wordpress for CS5.
I have XAMPP set up and have created my wordpress log in to view the dashboard.  I went in and activated a theme and it is in my file structure under my website name in the files section in CS5.
This is my file structure to the theme:
    C:\xampp\htdocs\wordpress\wp-content\themes\design-notes
I have this listed as my local site folder and my local server address in CS5
When I try to discover the index.php for the "design-notes" theme CS 5 shows and error and asks to retry.
I am to the point of desperation to fiure out what I am doing wrong.  I feel like I am close to a solution but I just can't get there.....Thank you all for any suggestions.
Another question.....How flexible are wordpress themes with editing?

Have you disabled mod-rewrite/friendly URLs in the Wordpress web admin page?  If not, log into your admin via a web browser and go to permalinks and use the default with the "?p=123".  Dreamweaver is currently unable to process other server directives thus this option may be different than it is on your live server.
I don't understand your question about how flexible are editing wordpress themes.  What DW gives you is code hinting and live view so that you don't have to remembr all Wordpress PHP functions when you custom code Wordpress in code view, and then the live view allows you to preview using the Webkit engine (Safari, Chrome, iOS, Android) without needing a browser.
