Unable to dismount Hybrid Karaoke CDG disk formats in Mac OS 10.5.6

Hi Everyone,
Ran into a problem today, when I put in a karaoke CDG disks from a company called "All Star Karaoke", I see an Audio CD mounted as well as a "Untitled" cd mounted. I cannot unmount these CDs unless I reboot and hold down the touch pad button. I have tried using DiskUtility to unmount, to no avail.
There is even a discussion of this issue in the kjams.com forum here:
http://karaoke.kjams.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=336&p=1977
Does anyone have a solution or work around for this Mac OSX bug, besides using a sharpie marker to mark out the outer sectors?

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.
2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
4. Press COMMAND-E.
5. If none of the above work try this:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
/usr/bin/drutil eject.
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into single-user mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

You need a cd burner and software that supports CD-G.

  • Unable to open windows using boot camp.  Get message "The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk."  Any thoughts, Thank you.

Unable to open windows using boot camp.  Get message "The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk."   I am using an Imac , Lion operating system, and Windows 7.  It worked a few days ago.  Any thoughts, Thank you.

Note that nowhere in the Boot Camp instructions does it tell you to use Disk Utility to format the Windows partition. The Boot Camp Assistant program creates the partition & sets the +partition scheme info+ of the disk as appropriate for the Windows installer but the Windows installer itself is responsible for formatting the new partition with the appropriate +file system scheme+ (NTFS for Windows 7).
If you follow the instructions in the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide to the letter you should have no problems installing Windows.

  • Unable to backup to external hard disk drive (HDD)

I am a new Mac user. I have been using a Samsung 200GB HDD as an external backup for my old PC and there have been no problems between the HDD and the PC which runs on Windows XP.
However, when I connect my Mac to the HDD, the Mac has Read Only rights for the files in the HDD. When I transferred the files in the HDD to the Mac I could Read and Write. However, I am now unable to transfer the files back to the HDD. The message 'HDD cannot be modified' appears. I have tried re-formatting the HDD but to no avail.
I know this probably has more to do with setting up the HDD correctly than with the Mac but can someone help? Thanks

Actually FAT32 partitions support upto 2TB. The 32GB limit idea comes from that fact that the windows XP format utility simply does not give you the option for FAT32 for partitions larger than 32GB. The reason for this is after 32GB, the cluster size doubles, and if you have many small files the filesystem loses efficiency, and microsoft basically wants you to use NTFS instead! It is still possible to format using various 3rd party utilities or under other OS's (e.g. Mac OS).
Like the other replies in this thread, if you intend to use the disk only with mac os definetly format it as MacOS Extended. However FAT32 still is the best (and only) fully supported FS across vaious OS's (Mac OS, Window, Linux etc.) - so if you do need to share the drive FAT32 is the way to go. You can format upto 2TB so partition size should be no problem however another very important point is the 4GB filesize limit with this filesystem. FAT32 does not support files larger than 4GB. this should not affect most people, but if you are working with video, you may come across files larger than this... and trying to write such files to FAT32 will simply cause your application (e.g. video editing or backup software) to fail.

    Micky,
The iTunes Store sells songs in AAC format.  Most Android phones can play AACs.  Just sync them to your phone per the instructions with the phone.
If by any chance your phone does require MP3 format, you can use iTunes to convert the files, per this guide:
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - Apple Support
(This conversion does not require burning.)
For future reference, note that the iTunes Store is really optimized for people using Apple devices.  You might find it more convenient to buy music in Mp3 format from Amazon Digital Music or Google Play Music.

  • 2nd gen shuffle disk format FAT32 on a mac?

    Guys,
my incredibly stable quad g5 has gone "nuts" since I've had my 2nd gen shuffle. It hangs, won't mount external USB drives if the 2nd gen shuffle is docked during startup, lots of other really weird things.
The shuffle was delivered to my work, so the shuttle was 1st connected to a Windows box, but just to charge it fully.
when the shuffle is connected to the quad, it only actually shows in iTunes about 25% of the time... whether or not it shows up in iTunes, I can see an "iPod" on the USB bus. I've got lots of USB 2.0 powered ports... changing ports doesn't make a difference at all.
according to iTunes, the software version is 1.01, which was updated from the shipping 1.00 while connected to the Windows machine. (this might have been a bad thing to do)
when the shuffle is connected to iTunes, despite the fact that the checkbox allow disk access, most of the time I still see the shuttle mounted as a drive volume. When it doesn't show up, I can still see the drive briefly mount and unmount if I toggle settings or do anything with the shuttle.
obviously, I've tried restore(s) from the quad, which resets the contents of the shuttle but doesn't change the disk format.
the shuttle itself operates as expected, it's only while it's docked to the quad that all heck breaks loose...
    Any ideas???
    Thanks

ah... well, I've already restored one of the times that it was connected to a proper 2.0 powered USB port.
the first time, it wouldn't come back from the reflashed state, ie it didn't reconnect to iTunes...
I disconnected, it had no songs on it, but it seemed to work... after a number of attempts to dock, it finally did, and I pumped a bunch of song over to it and it worked...
I then retried that sequence and the update worked fine.
it's still a strange beast. for example... although no disk access is allowed, it still mounts a shuffle icon onto the desktop, just no folders are visible... strange...
I've chosen to downsample to 128kbit AAC, and I'm not having iTunes autofill the shuffle. I unselected the downsample option and clicked apply. one would think that the data on the shuffle would stay as is. Nope, it wiped the shuffle and tried to put the songs that were there back on the shuffle at the original bitrates, which of course don't fit. Reselect the downsample option, click apply, and it repeats the wipe of the shuffle, and is now (again) downsampling and sending to the shuffle. Since it's on the keyboard USB port right now, this is taking quite a while.
I'll def try on other machines, and indeed without the USB drives mounted, ah, sorry, can't really do that on the quad... the iTunes library is on one of the external USB drives...
anyway, I get what you want me to try... it might be tomorrow before I can repeat the sequence enough times to say something conclusive. This has been going on for a few days already... I've restarted the quad more times since Thursday than I have in the last year!
I'm not panicking yet, but am extremely curious what is causing this problem.
Once again, thanks... I try some more tests and post back
    Michael

  • I WANT TO FORMAT MY MAC I HAVE LION 10.6 OS DISK BUT NOW 10.8 IS USING IN MY MAC SO HOW I WILL DO IT, I WANT TO FORMAT MY MAC I HAVE LION 10.6 OS DISK BUT NOW 10.8 IS USING IN MY MAC SO HOW I WILL DO IT

    Dear Team
please assist me how to format my mac, in my mac i am using lion 10.8 and i have 10.6 dvd that is purchased from apple .i am ready to erase my all data.when i try to istall with this dvd machine is saying not able to install so please give me a advice

You may have downloaded Lion. You can create a bootable flashdrive. There are many tutos on the web, such as this one : http://macs.about.com/od/macoperatingsystems/ss/Create-A-Bootable-Flash-Drive-Wi th-Os-X-Lion-Installer.htm.
You can also burn an install DVD.
When booting, hold ALT key to choose your flashdisk, and start erasing your HDD and installing.
Despite you're ready to erase all datas, I'd advise you to backup your stuff, as experience shows after erasing a disk, very often you regret not having backuped files.

  • How to read data from PC format external disk, using Labview MAC

    Hi folks,
For years I have not been able to read data files from a PC formatted (created) external disk, using Labview for Mac. More specifically:
     - I have Labview 7.01 running on OS X 10.4.11 on a PowerBook G4
     - I have a 500GB external USB/firewire disk that was formatted on a PC and has data files (custom format) that were created on the PC. I believe that C code actually creates the files, but Labview 7/PC opens the files and appends some info (I don't think the fact that C or Labview touches the files is actually relevant to this issue though).
     - I can connect the 500 GB disk to my mac, and it will mount just fine and OS X can see all of the data files (and anything else on the disk).
     - if I use my Labview app to open and read a data file it fails:
           - open/create/replace.vi (with read-only access) shows a file dialog window that lets me navigate to any file on the external disk.
           - but, the vi returns an error 7
     - if I use OS X to copy the data file to my Mac disk, my Labview app works fine.
    So, does anyone know if:
     - I'm just doing something wrong in my Mac Labview app?
     - Labview 7.x solves this problem?
     - Labview 8/Mac solves this problem?
     - OS X 10.5 solves this problem; with Labview 7 or 8; or does OS X 10.5 worsen the problem?
    Thanks, in advance...

    Hi kehander,
Thanks for the reply. I tried filling a constant path with the Mac-defined path to a data file on the USB disk (ie "DATA2:file1.dat"). This resulted in the same error message.
I then considered that maybe I was misinterpreting the LV error message, and that perhaps I was supposed to address the file using PC-notation (ie. "DATA2\file1.dat"), even though the app is running on a Mac. No joy with this, but I get a different error msg:
"Error 1430 occurred at Open File
    Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW:  The path is empty or relative. You must use an absolute path."
Can you share what your reasoning was for your suggestion... I'm not sure I understand why a constant path would produce different results?

  • Change from case-sensitive disk format to the normal Mac OS Extended.

    Hi,
I need to change from a case-sensitive disk format to the normal Mac OS Extended Journaled version.
I have no external HD fitted, but I do have some DVD-Rs. I need to restore the data from 2 users, including iTunes and iPhoto files.
What's the best way to achieve this?
    Many thanks,
    Tris.

I just got off of the phone with Adobe support. They told me they knew the solution, but that they would not tell me tonight. I had to call back between 6:00 am and 5:00 PM tomorrow. That does not work with my schedule. So I googled some stuff and found that Adobe CS 3 is not supported with Case-Sensitive file systems. So OK, let me install this to my other MAC that has a non case sensitive drive. Same error. Even though I have a non case-sensitive drive, the OS is on a Case-Sensitive Drive and I am never prompted where to install like most all other Mac Software.
I have always formatted case-sensitive. So I am thinking to myself why not start using a non case-sensitive drive. Well, to start off I want it case sensitive. I enjoy web programming and like this feature. Sure it is not needed, but I am glad Apple offered me a choice. And I am sure there are many other reasons why to use it. Also I would be interested in knowing why non case-sensitive drives are supperior.
Why is this a requirement now? I have used Adobe software in the past without this specific issue. I also have Large TB drives and do not know how to 'safely' do this. You will not catch me jumping through this hoop. I will not risk the change to the file system. And I can not be expected to format my drive. I just wonder what Adobe would say tomorrow if I called.
The Direct line I was given by adobe is 800-642-3623 for support on this issue. You don't need anything else but to call this number and ask. You can not get through after hours though.
Wow, I just can't believe this and the lack of interest Adobe had with me.
I hope I can get a refund on the software. Until I am able to downgrade my file system format, I do not want to sit on Adobe's bill. I will buy it again assuming I learn I can't do without PS CS3.

  • Extreme hard disk formats

Is exFat supported for the disk sharing in the airport extreme,
I want to keep the disk format in a readable form for windows and mac, this a external hard drive that i carry with me sometimes for file sharing.
I know Fat32 is supported, But this limits me to copying files to it that can be no larger than 4gig. I don't know if any of the mac formats will be supported in windows.
Basically the question is, what format can i use for disc sharing that is support on both mac and windows when plugged in directly via usb and the airport extreme can support. Also without file size limitations?

Is exFat supported for the disk sharing in the airport extreme
No, exFAT (aka FAT64) formatted HDDs are not supported by the AirPort when connected by USB for file sharing. As you are probably already aware, the AirPort File Server will only work with drives, formatted in: FAT16/FAT32 or HFS+. Note: Regardless of format, the AirPort will use both the SMB & AFP file sharing protocols to share out the drive to Windows, Linux, or OS X clients.
I want to keep the disk format in a readable form for windows and mac, this a external hard drive that i carry with me sometimes for file sharing.
The only option for this would be FAT32. However, the AirPort works best with HFS+ and you can mount HFS+ volumes on Windows with third-party solutions. One example is: Paragon Software's HFS for Windows

  • HT3275 Why does Time Machine say it's unable to back up because the disk is full -- even tho it's supposed to delete the oldest backups when that happens?

I'm running OS 10.6.8 on an imac from around 2011.  I back up with Time Machine to an external hard drive that has about 500 GB.  Until now, I've had no problemsm, or at least that's what I thought.  But today I'm getting a message every hour saying "Time machine is unable to back up because the disk is full."  It IS full, but Time Machine is supposed to delete the oldest backups when that happens, and keep deleting them in order.
Anyway, when I opened up my backup disk I discovered backups from February and most of March, nothing in April and nothing in May.
    I'm a little freaked.
Does anybody know why that would happen and what to do about it?
    Thanks in advance.

Hello, I don't use TM, but...
Have you looked through Pondini's extensive TM help site?

Can't imagine something not being covered there.

    Probably you were not connected.
    Try:
    connect target /;
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '/ora_backup/backupset/%F';
My output on the last command:
    new RMAN configuration parameters:
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '/ora_backup/backupset/%F';
new RMAN configuration parameters are successfully stored
