Unable to Double Tap with TrackPad or B/T Mouse after 10.8.2 upgrade

Hello:
Could some kind person possibly help a Mac newb?
For some strange reason, I am unable to Double Tap using *either* my TrackPad or Bluetooth Mouse immediately after upgrading my Mid 2011 iMac from OS X 10.6.8 to 10.8.2.  Single tapping on any file highlights the file name and double tapping the file name (not the icon) allows renaming the file (which I believe is all normal).  All other gestures appear to function normally - just can't double-tap TrackPad or double-click the Mouse.
ALREADY TRIED:
Shutting down and removing all power cords and cables to the computer.
Removing the batteries from TrackPad & Mouse.
Creating a new user account.
Reinstalling OS X 10.8.2 including updates 3 times.
Booting into Safe Mode then running Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions and Repair Disk.
Running Capture_Data.dmg and sending the files to Apple Support.
Apple Senior Advisor said that their Software Engineer did not notice anything out of the ordinary, but is now digging deeper.
Deleted com.apple.Bluetooth.plist & com.apple.PowerManagement.plist per Apple.
Cleared browser cache & history, then emptied trash.
I am currently working with a Senior Advisor at Apple since 02.01.2013 (10 days) to follow-up on the same issue as a previous case opened on 01.14.2013 after upgrading the OS X on 01.12.2013.  Apple originally suggested that I take my iMac to the Apple Store for diagnostic testing, which I have avoided because everything was working fine before the upgrade and then I noticed the same issue with the my mouse.  I decided to hold off wiping the system clean, doing a clean install then migrating my data and settings from the backup until my Apple Advisor tells me if their Software Engineer discovers anything else after they dig a little deeper into the diagnostic report.  But that could take weeks and right clicking to open files is getting old real fast.  Besides, my Adobe CS6 apps rely heavily (if not entirely) on double & triple clicks, so I am paralyzed from using any of their products.
Since Apple said they have no reported cases like this, I have done a lot of digging on my own before writing this.  Sorry about the long post, but I was hoping to provide as much detail as possible to be respectful of everyones valuable time.  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Doug Klimek

Problem Solved in less than 5 minutes - Thank you Travis @ AppleCare!
SOLUTION:
Set the Mouse & Trackpad Double-Click speed to any value other than "Fast". The slider bar has 10 settings (1=Slow to 10=Fast) so I set mine to 9 and it works fine.  But your system may respond differently, so you might want to start with #5 (Middle) and go from there.  FWIW, the #10 setting (Fast) does work, however I had to use one finger on each hand because I couldn't tap fast enough with only one hand.
HERE'S WHAT TO DO:
Click the Apple Logo > System Preferences > System > Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad > Double-click speed > Drag slider to the #5 setting (Middle of bar) then tweak to your liking
FYI ONLY:
FWIW, I had no Double-Click problems when setting the Mouse & Trackpad Tracking to #10 (Fast) as long as the Double-Click speed (above) was set to any value other than #10 (Fast).  I am only mentioning this to share what I learned.
Click the Apple Logo > System Preferences > Hardware > Mouse > Point & Click > Tracking > Drag slider bar to your liking
Click the Apple Logo > System Preferences > Hardware > Trackpad > Point & Click > Tracking Speed > Drag slider bar to your liking
Hope this information is helpful to anyone before consider wiping their disk clean and doing a fresh M/L reinstall like i almost did.

  • Finder 'unexpectedly quit'/crash, double tap on trackpad

Since upgrading to 10.4.8 ive been (increasingly) experiencing problems connected to the trackpad's right-click (2 fingers) functionality. The problem also appears when using my tablet pen's right click funtionality.
finder simply crashes, gives an unexpected quit message and restarts. it happens when tapping with two fingers and executing one of the functionalities, mainly delete, new folder and empty trash. the problem DOESNT appear when using single tap combined with 'ctrl' button.
has anyone experienced similar problems and possibly been able to solve it?
    any help would be appreciated!

  • No more double-tap with one finger to drag?

My new macbook air 11" don't have this function.   2010 MBP with lion installed still have this function.

It still has the option but it's been moved to System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad tab > Trackpad options... button > check dragging.

  • DC Offset problem with Peak 4.14 on MacMini after new hard drive upgrade

    Tiger 10.4.11
    Bias Peak 4.14 (24-bit 44.1 AIFF files)
    USBPre 1.5
The reason for this new topic is a problem that developed with Bias Peak 4.14 on my MacMini. Suddenly, when I apply the "Remove DC Offset" DSP process to a recording, the Bias Peak meters may stop displaying correctly.
About 50% of the time, only one meter will respond to the sound, or neither will (the meters work fine on the raw file before I apply the DSP function). The rest of the time, they work normally after DC Offset. I'm still waiting to hear from Bias about this via their forum, but no-one has responded yet. I don't know if this is just a GUI bug or an indication of a recording problem. The really spooky thing is that the problem only shows up part of the time.
This is happening on a new installation of OS X on a new drive that I installed. See a note at the bottom of this post for a hardware issue that may or may not play a role.
I've been recording vinyl successfully for a long time now on my MacMini (24-bit 44.1 AIFF), using a USBPre external A/D converter and Bias Peak (currently v4.14). But recently Peak froze as it was saving a file. I had to do a hard shut down which led to a corrupted system. I'd been meaning to upgrade to a larger drive anyway, so I put a 120 gig drive in.
After first installing/updating OS X on the new drive, and installing/upgrading Bias Peak, I had no problems. But then the control panel for the USBPre froze as I was getting ready to shut down. This worried me, so I ran diagnostics with TechTool and installed eDrive. The meter problem began showing up after this change. I wiped out the partition and reinstalled from scratch again, hoping that this would get things back to normal. But I still have the meter problem after applying DC Offset. Note, I created two partitions on the drive, and put Tiger on the first partition.
The makers of the USBPRe (Sound Devices) say there is nothing about the USBPre or drivers that should be causing this.
So I'm stuck, and faced with the following ideas for what might be wrong:
    1. Peak has a bug that I've somehow triggered. This may or may not be affecting the recording.
    2. Something about my recording hardware/driver has changed that is "corrupting" my recordings sometimes, and this is causing Peak to have trouble metering the sound.
    3. I screwed up my computer hardware and this is screwing up the recordings part of the time. See my upgrade note* about the hardware.
    4. The new drive seems to be a little slower to display folder contents. I wonder if this apparent latency could be causing the DC Offset problem in the original recorded file.
    * Upgrade note: When I tried to put the cover of the Mini back on after upgrading my drive and testing it out, I discovered that I hadn't screwed the drive/fan/DVD setup in correctly. The screws had fallen out and disappeared (my tiny screw driver made it very hard to tighten the screws I guess. I thought I’d done it correctly).
I turned the Mini upside down a couple of times before I discovered the screws missing.. My first attempts to put the cover on with the Mini sitting upright were not successful, so I turned it upside down to take the cover back off. The screws probably fell out then. When I tried putting the cover top down on the table and lowering the Mini into the cover I discovered that the drive/fan/DVD assembly was loose!
The drive is now secured completely except for the screws, and it is working. The slowness I mentioned above is something I noticed before the screws fell out, but obviously the assembly was not secured 100% even before I lost the screws.
I apologize for this convoluted post and hope it is clear enough. Please help if you can, I'm under pressure to finish my recording project.
    Vinyl_Man

    Hello, DaddyPaycheck,
The USBPre is powered by the USB bus, and it is plugged directly into the MacMini.
The screws remain in hiding. I'm amazed that I didn't find them on the motherboard or something like that. If they don't turn up fairly soon, I'll try to get replacements from an Apple service center. And I'll make sure I have a better small screwdriver.
I just did a test with Audacity for OS X and Cool Edit for Windows. I opened files that give me the meter problem in Peak and removed the DC Offset. When I opened the files I had modified in Audacity and Cool Edit, Peak metered the sound correctly. Somehow Peak is sensitive to something in the file that does not bother the other apps, and when the other apps have adjusted the DC Offset, Peak is happy. Peculiar.
I'm thinking about recording with Audacity now instead of Peak. I'm still concerned that something is wrong, though, since I don't understand the problem.

  • [K8N NEO3-F] Problem with USB keyboard and PS2 mouse after upgrading BIOS

    Hello everyone!
I have upgraded BIOS from 1.1 to 1.4... I have Sempron 2600 (64bit) so BIOS v.1.1 did not recognise it.
The motherboard works, but after upgrading I have a small problem with my keyboard and mouse.
When I use USB keyboard my PS2 mouse doesn't work. When I connect PS2 keyboard mouse works!!!
Can you tell me what's wrong?
    Thanks, bartull@
PS. Does BIOS v.1.3 recognise Sempron 64bit? Can you give me a link to it?

I think that the problem may have been caused by flashing either with liveupdate or with winflash.  I had the problem when i used winflash correctly (shutting down all programs, checking all the boxes to clear bootblock and cmos) but had usb keyboard connected during flash.  My suggestion is to reflash with floppy to last bios version that worked using only ps2 mouse and keyboard with the following instructions:
DOS floppy flash shall be performed with :
    awfl833d.exe w7030nms.180 /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /e
(Replace biosfilename with appropriate version for Neo1/neo2 etc , switches remain the same )
    After flash is complete :
TURN OFF PSU (don't restart) wait 15 seconds
Turn on again , press the power button .
Enter BIOS and load optimized defaults (NO OTHER CHANGES) , save + exit
Boot the system again with the floppy in the drive to let the DMI pool build and update itself .
If that works, then reflash to the bios you tried before with the same procedure.  Once you have stable system with ps2 keyboard and mouse working, re-enter bios and enable usb and keyboard support as a lot of bios' have it disabled by default for some strange reason.
    Good luck.

  • Why am I having problems with my memory on my 3GS after downloading os10.5 upgrade?

Ever since we upgraded to the latest OS, the memory on my 3GS is low. Everything moves so slow when surfing the net or on social networking sites.

My iphone battery is loosing 1% per minute talking on a call - that is not exceptable given that it never behaved this way prior to the 7.1 update. I have gone through and turned off everything that I read that may be causing the new batterey drain - but nothing is helping.

  • Dragging with 3 fingers is horrid. What happened to double tap & drag?

With the previos OS version I could swipe with 3 fingers to go back and forth on pages and applications and the finder, then if I want to drag something I could just double tap with one finger and drag an item. Easy and simple.
With Mountain Lion, only way to drag with the trackpad is to hold down the physical trackpad button and drag which is kind of a pain to do, especially since my button on my 2010 Mackbook Pro doesn't seem to work as well as it should...or use 3 fingers to drag which doesn't give you as much room to navigate on the trackpad as with one finger.  The main problem with doing this is that I can't go back and forth on apps/finder/etc with the 3 finger swipe because if I turn on 3 finger drag it turns that option off.  So I'm stuck without going back and forth by swiping in apps which I always used and stuck with a more unfriendly 3 finger drag.
What happened to the double tap and drag? It made things so much easier.  Or am I missing an option for that somewhere?  Why on earth would apple remove something like that?  It's a feature I expect to use both on Mac and Windows.

Thanks so much to jeffyg3, I finally found the answer to this!
    System Preferences>Accessibility>Mouse & Trackpad>Trackpad Options.
Enable dragging ON:  choose from menu "without drag lock".

  • Hyper sensitive trackpad and double tap minimizes

I wonder if the trackpad on the new MacBooks has not become too sensitive now? Sometimes I am just hovering over it with the fingers, not touching, and it acts like I have been tapping, closing windows, popping up menus etc. Another in here asked for the options to set the sensitivity and it does not exist, but he got the advice to choose an option he could not find in the Sys Prefs and neither can I, something which has to do with ignoring accidental clicks.
Could it be that they have forgotten to add that option in other languages? I run my Macs with Norwegian set as primary language.
Another odd thing is that the option to double tap to drag does not work, either. When I double tap (with one finger) it minimizes the window and send it into the Dock...
Anyone else who have experienced oddities with the trackpad and is there a solution? Otherwise, it works well enough.

All updates have been installed and I guess you think of the firmware and the other which came one after another. It is actually after those I noticed the increased sensitivity. As for the minimizing, it seems like there is a very fine difference between touching and tapping twice. Sometimes it works to drag and sometimes it minimizes.
Well, it is a minor problem but I got curious as someone replied to another topic here that there should be an option to ignore accidental input, but I haven´t found that option in Sys Prefs and wonder if that has been forgotten in the Norwegian localization...

  • Trackpad double tap is terrible

Has anyone else noticed the trackpad double tap to not work correctly?
I've pretty much given up when it comes to double tapping and resorted back to the button to double click.
It's getting pretty annoying, especially when I have to double click a bookmark out of the bookmark collection.

Try resetting Parameter memory (PRAM). If your PRAM contents are wrong, all sorts of odd hardware-ish problems can result.
I presume you have also tried adjusting the trackpad settings in System Preferences, correct?
Trackpad tapping, double-tapping, and double-tap with drag all seem to work fine on the Macs I'm using.

  • Problem in Double Tap

    I use 13'' 2.5GHz MacBook Pro (early 2013)
Recently I am having problem with double tapping with both the trackpad and a mouse. Sometimes double tap works but most of the time it doesn't. All the other functions of trackpad are working except for one and that is double tap.
What should I do? Please someone help. FYI the problem is only encountered only in OS X Mavericks but works fine in windows 8.1.

  • Three finger double tap not working

Since updating to iOS 5 on my iPhone 3GS, the Zoom feature has stopped working.  (Actually, when I double tap with three fingers, the screen enlarges a few pixels.)  Any ideas on how to get this feature back?  So far, I've turned it on and off, rebooted the iPhone.

Double tap with three fingers and KEEP your fingers on the screen after the second tap and then drag up or down.

  • Can't use three-finger double tap zoom.

    iPad 2 version 6.3.1.
Couple of days ago, I tried to use the three-fingered, double-tap zoom, but it didn't work. Now, being a middle-aged person, I like to use this feature. So, tried again. Didn't work. Double tapped all over the screen. Nada. Went to Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom. Zoom was on. Turned it off. Turned it on. Didn't work. Turned it off; turned it on again. Nope. Turned off the iPad. Turned on the iPad. Nuh-uh. Turned on, turned off the iPad again. Nah. Tried triple tapping the Home button to turn Zoom off and on again. Zilch. (Ordinary double-tap enlarge works, and so does Pinch to Zoom.)
I'm almost ready to reset the iPad, but that is such a drastic step, I thought I'd try here first. Any thoughts?
    -- yah

So if you double tap with three fingers and drag up the amount of zoom will increase. If you double tabp with threed fingers and drag down the amount of zoom will decrease. It is possible to have so little zoom that it looks like none.
Is that possibly what you are experiencing?

Ummm..I can't work out the 'Quotes' and how to do them on this forum board..so I'll just use bold and different fonts.
But you mis understand my question...
Here is part of my original post
I could double tap the home icon when a dialogue box was open
Implying that the dialogue box is already open BEFORE I use the double tap function.
As I go on to further explain, this dialogue box could be from either WiFi asking for a password, or Mail asking for a password, or Mail telling me it can't connect to the Server.
When you have 8 e-mail accounts and you have to hit OK or Cancel  twice per e-mail account..before you can close the app...it is more than frustrating.  ..all these multiple dialogue or warning boxes and you can't get out of them without acknowledging each of them.  You used to be able to Double tap, and Swipe the preview up to close the app..or jump to another app.
I understand this perfectly, what you said:
Double clicking the home button shows the recently opened app icons along the bottom of the screen with a preview above each icon. To open one of the apps, touch the icon and the app opens.  Copy what you want, double click, open the the other app, then paste.  The preview screens are used to close the apps by slideng the screens up.  See this:
..and that is what I am trying to do.  But when one of these Mail or Wif bode Dialogues or warnings are open the double tap is not possible..it does not work.  so you can't go to the other app to copy and paste. or slide the preview screen up to close it.
