Unable to downgrade to iOS 8.1.2

Im trying to downgrade my iPhone 5c to ios 8.1.2 but every time I try it it gives me an error (with no error code) "The iPhone "~~~" could not be updated because the firmware file is not compatible" Ive downloaded / tried to install on my phone: GSM, CDMA, and Global none of these work it takes about 3 minutes to download the IPSW's (it predicts to be 18-20 hours long) Product code: A1456 (CDMA) still unable to update. Thanks in advance! (ive tried multiple computers)

Yes I know, it's rather an exception than a rule.
From the IOS Security Whitepaper:
The authorization server checks the presented list of measurements against versions for which installation is permitted, and if it finds a match, adds the ECID to the mea- surement and signs the result. The server passes a complete set of signed data to the device as part of the upgrade process. Adding the ECID “personalizes” the authorization for the requesting device. By authorizing and signing only for known measurements, the server ensures that the update takes place exactly as provided by Apple.
The boot-time chain-of-trust evaluation verifies that the signature comes from Apple and that the measurement of the item loaded from disk, combined with the device’s ECID, matches what was covered by the signature.
These steps ensure that the authorization is for a specific device and that an old iOS version from one device can’t be copied to another. The nonce prevents an attacker from saving the server’s response and using it to tamper with a device or otherwise alter the system software.
Another paragraph added:
The startup process described above helps ensure that only Apple-signed code
can be installed on a device. To prevent devices from being downgraded to older versions that lack the latest security updates, iOS uses a process called System Software Authorization. If downgrades were possible, an attacker who gains possession of a device could install an older version of iOS and exploit a vulnerability that’s been fixed in the newer version.

  • I have an iPad Air and want to downgrade to iOS 7. How does this work?

iOS 8.1 is really slow on my iPad Air so i want to downgrade to iOS 7.
    What should i do?

Since you can't go backwards to an earlier iOS ... what you should do is reset your iPad to factory default by your iTunes program. Don't forget to do your backups!

  • Cannot turn on icloud backup after downgrade to iOS 7.1.2

I own an iPhone 4S which I upgraded to iOS 8 on 21st September. The iphone and most of applications (even phone) crashed all the time so I decide to downgrade to 7.1.2 after following instructions found in these communities. I did it just yesterday.
Now I cannot turn on iCloud Backup to my iPhone. The iCloud drive of course disappeared from Settings > iCloud, however it's still visible when I access the iCould in web. Moreover in iCloud web interface my iPhone appears as running iOS 8 and X Yosemite which is not true. My iPhone has 7.1.2 iOS.
I tried to erase my iPhone and restore it from a backup I made yesterday but I have the same issue: iCloud could not be enabled. It was enabled finally after hard reset but when I select "Backup now" the app crashes and throw me in the Home Screen. I see a message: this iPhone has never been backed up on iCloud and the last backup could not be completed.
Please help!!!!!! I want to be able to have iCloud Backup (most important settings and contacts, sms etc.) as I did usually before upgrading to iOS 8 and downgraded to 7.1.2.

    Hello,
Been experiencing the same problem, finally fix it by deleting your old iCloud backup from iOS 8.
Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage > Click on your device name > Scroll down to bottom > Delete this backup.
Then try to turn on the iCloud Backup setting toggle again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is there a way to downgrade from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 4.1 without any unauthorised modifications (e.g. jailbreaking)?

I found this piece of information: http://osxdaily.com/2012/06/18/downgrade-ios-6-beta-to-ios-5/ Yes, it's about downgrading from iOS 6 beta, not iOS 6, but the way to downgrade to a previous version of iOS is basically the same.
I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1.1 and an iPod touch 4 running iOS 5.1.1 as well. None of them is 'jailbroken'. I upgraded my iPod touch to iOS 6 for exploring it a bit more and reverted back to iOS 5.1.1. How? I did it the way stated by the website I mentioned above: just by Option-Clicking the 'Restore' button on iTunes and select the iOS 5.1.1 software. No need to enter recovery mode or DFU mode whatsoever.
In fact, Apple doesn't allow users to downgrade to a previous version of iOS: 'Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported.' (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694) The reason why I could downgrade from iOS 6 to iOS 5.1.1 may be, as the above website said, 'Typically you can’t downgrade iOS versions so easily, but because Apple is still signing iOS 5.1.1 this allows downgrading to commence with minimal effort.'
I was wondering whether I could revert all the way from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 4.1 (the version that was shipped along with the launch of the iPod touch 4 in September 2010). (for experimental purposes)
I downloaded the iOS 4.1 (a list of iOS software: http://osxdaily.com/2010/10/30/download-ipod-touch-firmware-ipsw/) and tried Option-Clicking when restoring this iOS 4.1 — no luck. iTunes said 'This device is not eligible for the requested build'. And I did a bit of research and found that there are ways to downgrade from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 4.1, but it seems you have to jailbreak the device, which is complicated and I don't want to do.
So, is there a way to downgrade from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 4.1 without any unauthorised modifications (e.g. jailbreaking)? Thanks in advance.

No, downgrading from any version of iOS to an earlier version is not supported.

  • Apple, let us downgrade to iOS 6.0!

Well, this battery drain issue is coming from iOS 6.1 to me and it seems that it is common on almost every iPhone model (4, 4S, 5, etc). It maybe not the iOS itself, perhaps from this version, the iOS gives some opportunity to some Apps to do some stuff in the background that kills battery. Some of us have this kind of apps and having battery problem, other don’t.
My iPhone battery was good prior to iOS 6.1, with 5 hours of usage and even up to 5 days on standby! After upgrade to 6.1, it loses 2~3% battery every hour on standby and only lasts for 1 or 2 hours of usage before dead. It is not as bad as some who lose 10% of battery every hour on standby, but to me, the battery life has reduced to one quarter of past.
I am sure Apple is working on it and iOS 6.1.2 seems to be an urgent upgrade to solve, but I knew it won't solve my problem, because I don’t use the Exchange account and the update aimed to solve that issue.
I think the best solution is that the Apple gives us the choice to downgrade to iOS 6.0 until the next stable version is ready to go. This solution will give the Apple the time to find and solve the problem and gives us our phones back to use.

    This is my recent test:
I charged the phone to 100%, unplugged it and set the Airplane Mode to ON and guess what? It is 11 hours now and the battery is still on 100% of charge!
I am using 2G network and the signal in my area is very good (full antenna). Maybe the problem is in communicating with the BTS towers and nothing related to apps or settings or hardware.
It is obvious that the Airplane Mode saves battery, but maybe in recent iOS updates, it is the 2G network connection that drains the battery more than usual.
    What do you think?

There has never been a legit way to downgrade.
It will always restore to the latest available software.

Apple has pulled the iOS 8.0.1 update due to problems.
iOS 8.0.2 will be released in "the next few days".
Loss of cellular service or ability to use Touch ID after updating to iOS 8.0.1 on iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus
We have a workaround for you if you have an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and you lost cellular service and Touch ID functionality today after updating to iOS 8.0.1. You can reinstall iOS 8 through iTunes by following the instructions below. We are also preparing iOS 8.0.2 with a fix for the issue, and will release it as soon as it's ready in the next few days.

  • Unable to update my  iOS on my iPad and iPhone.

I am unable to update my iOS on my iPad and iPhone. Though I have had these devices and have been updating for over a year, the issue just started with this new release (iOS 5.1).
When I connect my Pad and Phone to iTunes (Windows PC with Vista), I am told that an update is available. When I update, iTunes tries to connect to a server. Then I receive the message, "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad. The network connection could nopt be established."
When I try to update the devices iOS using WiFi directly (not connected to iTunes). The devices say, "Checking for Update..." and does not connect. It says, "Unable to check for update...An error occurred while checking for a software update...Cancel or Try Again"

I solved this by downlading the iOS update via wi-fi at another location other than my home. I would still like to know why this download did not work at my home as it has for over a year. I have made no changes in my firewall or security settings.

  • HT1414 how to downgrade from iOS 8 to iOS 7

Since i was updated to iOS 8 i face a problem of blank screen during unlocking
So i would like to downgrade to iOS 7 again

I was getting this same behavior with 8.0x on an iPhone 4S but not with our iPads.
What seems to help is using the top switch to close the unlock screen then press it again to get the unlock screen back.
When I do that the lock screen has all of its features and is responsive again.
I don't believe I've seen this happen since 8.1 but don't make me swear in court to it.
Alas, you can only downgrade iOS for a limited time "officially" as Apple invalidates the needed files after a while, and that while is getting shorter with every release.  Some sites warehouse the needed files.
