Unable to download Adobe Reader - Error 1303

Yesterday, all of a sudden my adobe reader went away. When I try to download it, Error 1303 comes up - insufficient privileges to access directory. I have tried to go through the steps that are listed, but can't figure it out. Need some help - ASAP.
Thank you!

What is your operating system?  Are you installing as an Administrator user?

if you're using windows, click the start button>control panel>uninstall programs> and check for adobe acrobat and adobe reader.  don't uninstall anything if you find it.
but if you find no acrobat/reader run the cleaner (Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs) and then try and install adobe reader.

  • I am unable to download adobe reader

I have been trying to download adobe reader with no success.  I am using windows vista - and it starts to download then I get an error message after 66% downloaded which states "General Installation Error".  I used to be able to open pdf files but recently have a message on my computer, unable to preview as no reader installed.  I am not a very competent computer user, but usually manage . I hope someone with more knowledge and understanding of computers can assist me.

You may want to try the following:
Run this fix from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Uninstall all traces of any versions of Reader using Add/Remove Programs
If you want to reinstall Reader, download it from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • Unable to print PDF documents & then unable to download Adobe Reader

    Help,
I tried to print a PDF document this morning and received the message "The document could not be printed". I clicked OK and received a further message "There were no pages selected to print". My printer will still print word documents, emails and DVD covers produced using Nero Cover Design Essentials.
I have the latest version of Adobe reader 11.0.07. I went to the Adobe site and repaired Adobe Reader but it made no difference.
I therefore decided to uninstall Adobe Reader and reinstall it from the Adobe site. It downloaded OK but when I tried to install it I got the following message "Error: General Installation Error". I was using Mozilla Firefox so tried the same with Internet Explorer, with the same result.
I then downloaded the full Adobe reader from File Hippo, but still got an error message when I tried to install it (see below).
So I have gone from bad to worse and don't even have Adobe reader on my PC any more. The problem only surfaced this morning and last night I uninstalled two programs I decided I didn't need any more; Auslogics Disc Defrag and AVG PC Tuneup, but don't understand how uninstalling them could have caused the problem.

    Barry

    Hi again Pat,
I checked the permissions in my Temp folder and there were none. So I ticked all the boxes, but when I ticked OK I got the permission denied message again, so the problem is still tied to me not having administrator privileges. Strange thing is that even though I was denied permission, the boxes still stayed ticked. However nothing has changed as far as my problems are concerned.
It would appear to me that the answer is to get my administrator privileges back, but I have been unsuccessful in that so far. I purchased a complete PC from a good supplier but the Windows 7 setup disc that came with it does not have the "Repair Your Computer" function on it, which I understand would allow me to sort out my administrator privileges? When I rang Microsoft and asked if there was any way I could obtain that function, by download or otherwise, they weren't at all interested as I hadn't purchased Windows 7 directly from them.
As for downloading Adobe Reader via the MSI folder, I don't need to do that because when I recovered my backup from an earlier period I once more had Adobe Reader. I can use Adobe Reader to open a PDF document but it would appear I must have administrator privileges in order to print a PDF document, which was how the situation was before I decided to uninstall Adobe Reader and download a new version. I can print any other type of document so obviously Adobe demands more before it will allow printing.
In the early stages I also downloaded Foxit Reader, as I had read good things about it, but again, for the same reasons, I could not install it.
I have googled "problem with loss of admin privileges" and got a lot of hits. I will try some of the suggestions that don't appear too complex, but if they fail I will go back to the supplier. I have to sort it. I have seen suggestions about starting a new account but am not sure what to do there, or indeed, if I should do that.
Thanks for all the attempts to help me so far,
    Barry

  • Cannot download Adobe reader error "Can't establish SSL connection (16248.331.1095.307)"

I have XP x64 SP2 and have tried to download Adobe Reader. I get an error; "Can't establish SSL connection (16248.331.1095.307)" and
then after a couple of these, it closes the download manager.
We are using IE6.0.3790.359 128 cipher
As to the alternate browsers, our corporation will not allow them to be loaded. So we cannot use other browser.
The installation steps are: click get reader, allow activeX, unclick Google bar and click download- simple stuff.
Please refer to the screen shot
    Thanks

Assuming that you want the English version of Adobe Reader 9.2, you can download it without download manager from http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.2/enu/AdbeRdr920_en_US.exe
If you're looking for a different version, find it at ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/

  • Unable to download Adobe Reader 8

First, removed all previous Reader and Album Starter files using the add/remove programs in the control panel.
Tried downloading both the Reader and Photoshop Album Starter together and then just the Reader. Neither of several attempts completed Adobe Reader downloading.
Got the following error message in GetPlus "Execution of Download Failed. "pase320_en_us.exe"". Hit OK and the downloading continued.
Got the following Windows error message (the box with the big red X) about 90% of the way through the download.
    C:\DOCUME~1\DCEE76~1.KIN\LOCALS~1\TEMP\ADOBE READER 8___\SETUP.EXE
Windows cannot access the specified path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
This was the result each time I attempted a download.
Nothing was downloaded to my PC. (Windows XP Pro).
Now I do not have any way to see pdf's or any other function Adobe Reader provides. Hope there is a solution!

Thanks for the info. Was able to down load but still unable to view PDF's.
    Got the following messages:
"Yellow Triangle with ! inside" Message
    "ADOBE PDF DOCUMENT"
"There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again."
Then the Box with OK inside.
Selected the OK and got the following message with the Red box with the X inside:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
Any help would be highly appreciated!!!

  • Unable to download Adobe Reader for Windows 7

I purchased a Dell Intel Core Dueo CPU, 64-bit with Windows 7 Home Premium computer about 9 months ago. I never was able to get the Adobe Reader to work so I started using Foxit.  I would prefer to use Adobe, so recently I tried to update newer version (Adobe Reader X).  It keeps giving me the error message (when I try to download it):  "can't retrieve essential parameter (16291.301.749)"
When I tried to download an earlier version of Adobe (like Above 9.1), it downloads and appears to be there, but when I open it freezes up and never opens.
    Please help - thanks -

WOW!  Double WOW -- you are awesome.  This worked perfectly.  I've owned the computer for almost a year and Adobe has never worked.  Thank you so much!!

I use Windows 8. When I finished downloaded the Adobe Reader XI, a message shown on the screen" MAPIR.dll is missing from the computer. Please install again the program". No way I can stall this program after many trials. Please help.

Googled about the MAPIR.dll it looks like this is something to do with Microsoft Office Applications.
It looks like MS has some hotfix for this error. You might want to ask in MS forums?

  • Unable to download Adobe Reader Help please

I just started working at my new job as a receptionist and i am trying to download the adobe reader but after i click on the "RUN" button is asks me for a user name and a password. How can i go about fixing this problem, can anybody help Please?

Your account on that computer is not a system administrator account. This is standard practice on workplace workstations. It saves a lot of headaches for companies. You need to get in touch with your I/T person or department and have them either: change your account to a system admin (which I don't think they'll do-but it's worth a shot) or have them perform the install.

  • UNable to Download Adobe reader files

I have the free Adobe reader.  Back about four months ago i started having trouble downloading and reading PDF files
They would come up as Nitro tabs.  When i cliked on them they would ask how i wanted to download, as pdf, Html, download.
No matter which way i tried i was unble to get them.  Ended up with a blank scree.
Any idea what i am doing wrong?

What is your operating system & version?
    What is your web browser?
    What is your Reader version?
What if you download the PDF files to your local disk, then open them from there?

  • Unable to download Adobe Reader.

Temporarily disabled Virus Protection.  Still won't download.  According to Reader Quick Fix page, JavaScript needs to be enabled.  Where do I find JavaScript?

    Have you tried another browser?
As a rule, I never attempt to download anything with IE. Microsoft has left it so full of security holes that it tries to block everything except viruses it seems.
Firefox is my browser of preference, but I use Safari an awful lot too. Once you get used to FF, Chrome, Opera or Safari, and see how much better any of them work, you'll wonder why you ever used IE for so long (other than it came with Windows).
