Unable to download/install Mountain Lion

Hi,
I recently purchased the OS X Mountain Lion update but it won't install. I start the download and it appears as a 2.14 GB file, when it reaches the end it then jumps to the actual size of over 4GB. I have re-downloaded (after deleting from Applications and Trash) numerous times, verified and repaired disk permissions (in both normal and safe mode) and also made sure the Apple ID within System Preferences is correct but have had absolutely no luck. I have also contacted App Store support who "put a new copy on my account" and I even tried downloading it from another user account on my MBP.
When it does complete the download and I attempt to install it I get this error: "This copy of the Install OS X Mountain Lion.app application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading."
Have you guys ever seen this before? Why is the download not displaying as a 4GB file when monitoring the progress in the App Store?
Thanks in advance.

I assume when you refer to "tethering," you are referring to using a cellular device's data connection for the download? If so, that's not likely to work much better, since most cellular providers will throttle the connection after a certain point.
If you don't have access to a network that is capable of downloading the file, you should try going somewhere else. Try a coffee shop or public library, or some similar location that offers free wifi. Or if there's an Apple Store near you, go there and use their wifi network to do the download.

  • App Store - Error 13 - Cannot download/install Mountain Lion

    Hello,
I tried to upgrade to Mountain Lion via the App Store on my early 2011 MacBook Pro running Lion OS X. Whenever I try to purchase Mountain Lion I am greeted with an error 13 message. I have followed the various other forums suggesting I delete file ~/Library/Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist in the App Store cookies however this fails to work.
I have also tried the following:
Per post above, enable debug menu via
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
    Sign out
Clear cookies AND reset the app, using debug menu
    Select Menu->Store->Check for unfinished downloads
Wait for the downloads to finish and then
    restart the app store app.
But it failed to work! :(
Thanks in advance for any help as at the moment I am unable to install Mountain Lion and it's rather annoying!
    BL.

  • HT204347 Unable to Re-install mountain Lion after erasing with disk utility! help

I bought my new Macbook pro retina disply 13 inch last friday. played with it some time and try to restore using a time machine back up of my old Mac Air. It worked well but I didn't like it so I restarted and pressed Command + R to bring the restore utility and from there I used the Disk utility to erase my Disk and then after connecting to net I clicked reinstall Lion. First my machine was verified by Apple, then I entered my apple ID, then the mountain lion licence agreement came and i clicked agree and it started installing. Immediatley below the installation bar it showed 50 hrs remaining to finish installation. it was odd because I used to finish it within 2 hrs. Moreover the time appeared to increase from 50 to 51 and more. I waited all day without any use. it looked as if the disk has some write protection, the software is trying to install but unable to write.
What can i do now? I am now without a  OS in my mac.

  • Trying to install Mountain Lion 2012 Mac Mini

I am upgrading (downsizing) from an old Mac Pro running Lion, to a new 2012 Mac Mini running Mountain Lion.
I have a new SSD Hard Drive I want to install Mountain lion on via a USB dock, and then I will install it in the Mini to replace the slow 1TB drive that came with it.
The problem is, even though the 2012 Mini is running 10.8.2, (Mountain Lion) when I try to download/install Mountain Lion it tells me I cant download it and that OSX Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer.
Which is ridiculous, as it is running 10.8.2 right now./
    ideas?
    Flustered.

If you want a fresh install of Mountain Lion on the
external, you should be able to boot into the Recovery HD
and select install OSX and direct it to install on the external
    drive.
Then again, cloning is just so much simpler.

  • When Installing  Mountain Lion, showing error and taking 8-10 hrs for download and unable to Install

    Dear All,
I purchased new Macbook Air.When I download free Mountain Lion is given by Macbook, which is taking 8-10 hrs to download a littile bit and showing error message, try again...but I could not download and Instal the same.again and again showing error message.when I download this Macbook is going to sleep mode and pause. How can I cure this?PLease help me.

Try turning off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
Some ISP's have a download quota that limits download sizes. Mountain Lion is a 4.35GB file.
Check with your internet service provider. You also may need to upgrade to broadband high speed internet since Mountain Lion Recovery requires broadbaand access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection.
Check Sleep settings in System Preferences > Energy Saver.

  • I had iLife pre-installed on my aluminium Macbook 2009 with OSX Leopard on it. My hard drive broke but got most of the info off it and just installed snow Leopard on to a new drive and then downloaded and installed Mountain Lion over it. Now I don't have

I had iLife pre-installed on my aluminium Macbook 2009 with OSX Leopard on it. My hard drive broke but got most of the info off it and just installed snow Leopard on to a new drive and then downloaded and installed Mountain Lion over it. Now I don't have iLife anymore. How do I get it back?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Mac OS X doesn't come with iLife applications, so you have to install them manually after installing Mac OS X.
Insert the Applications disc or Mac OS X Install Disc 2 DVD and install iLfe applications. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest update. If you want, you can purchase iMovie, GarageBand and iPhoto in the App Store, so you will get the most recent version

  • Downloading and Installing Mountain Lion on a 2010 Macbook Pro Running OS X 10.6.8

I'm attempting to download mountain lion, but everytime I click the download button, it turns white and the just reverts back to normal. I tried restarting the computer, and I see the dock icon saying it's downloading, but again, nothing in the App Store changes. I've tried deleting the cache for the App Store, I've tried resetting the App Store, I tried creating a VPN network, but nothing worked. I'm out of idea.

I downloaded the mountain lion from the app store and it downloaded. When i installed the mountain lion it said that the hd disk is broken and cannot be repaired, and the other disk doesnt have enough space! HELP and i cannot return to my desktop with the old sofware so i cant use my computer normaly

This error means that your hard drive is badly corrupt and cannot be repaired by Disk Utility. Since you say you don't have backups, this is very bad news. You may already have lost data irrevocably.
First order of business needs to be backing up whatever you can, but this may be difficult to do if the machine won't start up any more. See step 1 of the following post:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21614450#21614450
Once you have backed up your data, you can address the other issues.

  • Unable to install Mountain Lion because HD is "being used for backups"?

I have been unable to install mountain lion because it is saying that my hard drive is being used for time machine backups. That makes no sense, because I use an external hard drive to backup my computer. I'm not sure why this is happening.

Do you, for some reason, have an item named "Backups.backupdb" on your hard drive? If so, you need to get rid of that in order to install.

  • I just downloaded and installed mountain lion on my macbook pro but it didn't change the picture on desktop to mountain lion in is still snow leopard is that supposed to be that way.

I just downloaded and installed mountain lion but it kept snow leopard on my screen is that supposed to happen or did i miss something?

Then you're good to go.  Updating your OS doesnt change your desktop background, you can do that manually, if you wish.
