Unable to download iOS 4.3.4 Software Update
I am unable to download iOS 4.3.4 Software Update for my iPhone 3GS via iTunes as the server keeps timing out. Please help!

Hello, I hope by now you have resolved the upgrade issue, but if not, here is what I ended up having to do:
“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”

It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.
Can anyone help? Please?!

Now, there seem to be a lot of different ways to solve the 8288 error, none of which are universal. Best of luck getting yours upgraded!

I’m not trying to bash, it just bothers me that he put up this whole story and finally, at the very end of his blog post, posts his solution. -

The latest available is IOS 6.1.2
IOS 5.1.1 is only available for iPad 1.
Connect and select your iPhone 4S in computer iTunes sidebar, in General tab, click the Check for Update button.
Note: You may also need to update computer iTunes to 11.0.2

The reason I want 6.1.1 is because I want to download kik and a load of other apps but I need 6.1.1.
The message is "Error. Unable to download iOS 6.1.1" or something, and I have no idea what it means or how to fix it because I know barely anything about the apple software things.
I've read a few things about it and discovered that this issue is common, but I can't get the answer I need, and the other posts about this issue were made like two years ago. I've got enough space, definitely, and last night it was downloading it so I put it on the charger and went to sleep, when I woke up it said "Cannot download. Internet connection is required." something like that. I had no issues last night, but now it's saying it cannot download.
Can someone please help?

PS: I currently have ios 5 point something.You have to have an internet connection, either wireless or through a computer with iTunes. When you choose Software Update you can only update to the latest version for your iPod Touch, iOS 6.1.6

My company will not allow us to download iOS 7 due to software / security issues on our end. The problem is I need to download numbers but it says I need iOS 7. Is there any way to get an earlier update of numbers that's doesn't require ios7?
Thank you so much! It's updating now. I'm hoping that once the update is finished that it will sync like normal as well. Of course I'm still a bit confused/concerned about how it refused to update on it's own, but for now that's not a problem. Hopefully from now on there won't be any more problems.

You are correct-there are no more IOS updates for 1st Gen iPads.
5.1.1 is the latest firmware for your iPad. -

Most likely computer Anti-Virus and or computer Fire-Wall is interferring with the download of the Firmware. Turn them OFF, so your computer can download the Firmware.

I'm trying to prepare some new iPads using Apple Configurator and the download of IOS8 failed.
The error in Apple Configurator is "Unable to download iOS 8.0. The firmware image was corrupted. Please retry the operation."
Is there a way to get the Apple Configurator to try to re-download iOS 8?Apple Support had me delete the image file from the following location:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.confi gurator/firmware/
The file name was iPad3,4_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw
I deleted this file and ran the prepare again and it download the iOS 8 ok and successfully prepared the iPad. -

thank youYou cannot buy more storage for an iPad. At least not the storage needed for an iOS update. If you tried to update and a message popped up saying you didn't have enough free space or storage on your iPad for the update you have to remove enough stuff on your iPad to provide that space. The update requires plenty of free space to install but when it is done much of that space is freed up again so you can put some of your stuff back on the iPad if you desire.
The additional storage you purchased is iCloud storage which is used for back up of your iPad.
Another alternative is to back up your iPad while connected to iTunes on your computer. When you do this the installation file is downloaded to the computer and extracted there. This method requires much less space on your iPad to complete the update.
