Unable to download Oracle 10g Express

On the download page, the download files are plain text, no links. This is true even after I created an account and logged in.
Is it the web page, or is there something else I need to do?

I think Oracle Corp. has removed 10g XE download because Oracle Corp. is pushing more for 11g now (10g XE was never officially supported but 10.1 and 10.2 Standard/Entreprise Edition are already in extended support mode: 10.2 will be in sustained support mode in July 2013).

Waited half a day to download Oracle 10g Express

Trying to download Oracle 10g Express. Web browser is always waiting for download.oracle.com.
The download finally did start, after HALF A DAY, for a 211 MB rpm.
Download of Oracle 11g starts immediately.
Now I'm too tired to install the !#!# software !

Exactly the same problem for me, just having much less patience than you, so i gave up.

Downloading Oracle 10g Express Edition

I'm trying to access the webpage from oracle 10g express edition but the site return me this page isn't available anymore, i need to download this specific version, how am i supposed to go along with that?

when you install the database to make sure the account that has administrator privileges install.
Why
Sometimes the installer glitches. Sometimes its because the user running the install isn't a local admin.
If there are no data files under the XE folder, that is a symptom of an installer glitch.
See the Local Users and Groups applet, Start/Run lusrmgr.msc open the Groups folder, right click/Properties on Administrators. If you're logged into the host with a domain account, be sure your <domain>\loginname is in that local admins group.

Unable to download oracle 10g for vista

I'm trying to download Oracle 10g for Windows Vista, but I only get a zero-byte file.
I even tried Oracle 10g XE for Windows, but I get a zero byte file.
Also, when you try to download, it waits about a couple of minutes before saying completed.
Any ideas how to resolve this?.

It seemed to be a problem with either oracle's web site or a hop between oracle and my computer. It works now. I don't think it was my computer because I succussfully downloaded files from several other sites.
I have downloaded Oracle 10g for windows vista and installed it successfully on vista home premium 32-bit.
I did get a warning because I use DHCP. It recommended to install Microsoft Loopback driver as the primary interface - I didn't do that.
Oracle seems to run okay. I downloaded sql developer and it connects okay to oracle.
I have read other messages on here that installing oracle on a windows system using DHCP without a loopback driver can fail once my IP address changes. If I did install the microsoft loopback driver as my primary interface, what else would I need to do? Would installing this driver cause other stuff on my computer to fail?
Also, when I entered the database name for Oracle, it truncated a character.
I wasn't paying attention. So, after I installed, I was unable to connect at first because I kept entering the wrong TNS name. Is there a maximum TNS name length?
Notice the TNS name is TESTDB10 but the service name is TESTDB10G

Unable to connect Oracle 10g Express from Visual Studio Server Explorer

Hello,
Please help me out here. I am connecting from Visual Studio 2008 to Oracle 10g Express Edition and the I have installed the ODAC 11 and the ODP.NET as well for Visual Studio(Both include Oracle Developer tools). But whenever I tried to connect from my Visual Studio 2008 server explorer so that I can have the database and its object there, I do get this error : "ORA-12560 : TNS: protocol adapter error."
The following is what I specified in my connection box:
DataSource Name: (Local Database)
Username : HR
Password: the password for it.
My OS is : Windows Vista Ultimate.
Please anyone who has solved such error should just help out here.

Thank you for your reply. I will like to know if you can use Visual Studio. In visual studio there is what we called Server Explorer and from there you can create connection and access all the database server from there. I am able to connect to the Oracle XE through the browser and I was able to crete table and other stuffs like that but when I tried to connect from Visual Studio 2008, I get the 12560 Error. Unable to download Oracle 10g

I'm trying to download Oracle 10g from 2 weeks and it never works. Once I click the url for download after 10-15 mins it says page not found.

I tried deleting my Cookies, temp files and I even tried to download from firefox but still I'm not able to download. Can somebody please help me?

I tried on my colleague's computer and it worked. The only thing I did on my computer was I updated my computer with the latest Windows Service Packs. I think Oracle Downloads are not compatible with the Latest Service Packs on Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

I have downloaded Oracle 10g Express Edition - username/password problem

I successfully downloaded the above download and in my "Start - Programs" section I correctly have "Oracle Database 10g Express Edition". I click onto this link and a dropdown menu appears. I click onto the "Actual Page" link and I'm prompted for my username and password. The heading is "Database Login". I originally created my username as my email address which is "[email protected]". When I try to login using this username and my password I get an "Invalid Login" message. So it is obvious that using this username is wrong.
What do I need to do? I clicked onto the link "Click here to learn how to get started". I noticed that I had to enter username of "system" for the administrator, followed by "Enter the password that was specified when Oracle Database XE was installed". The trouble is I was given no password at any stage when doing the download. How can I find out what my password is?
Please advice. I want to practice some PL/SQL examples for educational purposes only!

I noticed that I had to enter username of "system" for the administratorIf your problem is the system user's password, then you can simply change it : enter SQL command line, and
SQL> conn / as sysdba
Connected.
SQL> alter user system identified by manager123;
User altered.
SQL>Of course manager123 is only an example.

Installing and Running Oracle 10g Express Edition on Microsoft Vista

My computer is running on Microsoft Vista.
I downloaded Oracle 10g Express Edition for Vista.
I ran the setup.exe. Everything went well there.
But, when I open the SQLPlus program, a window prompts me to enter my username, password and host string.
Can someone please tell me what it is expecting for these fields? I am using the same username and password I used to create my Oracle account.
But what is the host string?

Not able to create partitions using Oracle 10g express edition

Hello Everyone,
I downloaded Oracle 10g express edition as the documentation for the same says that it supports partitioning of the table.
But when I try to run a command like
CREATE TABLE sales_range
(salesman_id NUMBER(5),
salesman_name VARCHAR2(30),
sales_amount NUMBER(10),
sales_date DATE)
PARTITION BY RANGE(sales_date)

PARTITION sales_feb2000 VALUES LESS THAN(TO_DATE('03/01/2000','DD/MM/YYYY')),
PARTITION sales_mar2000 VALUES LESS THAN(TO_DATE('04/01/2000','DD/MM/YYYY')),
PARTITION sales_apr2000 VALUES LESS THAN(TO_DATE('05/01/2000','DD/MM/YYYY'))
I get the following error
"ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Partitioning"
Please let me know what is causing the issue/error and how to resolve it.

Where did you read that the express edition supports partitioning? I would strongly suspect that there was an error in the documentation-- partitioning is an extra cost option on top of an enterprise edition database. Perhaps you are confusing the personal edition (which does support partitioning) with the express edition?

why those all above???? how i can practice myself on exp' edition???.... actually what the s/w engineers do with express edition???
i follow the instructions given for get started....
i can view sometables which already exist....
what is the use with that.....i don't have any idea when work with get started.....i just follow the instruction given on help and create a table....

Hi,
10g express edition (XE) is free database version of 10g. Application Express (Apex) is already installed to it.
Apex version that comes with XE is 2.1.
You can upgrade it to version 3.2.1 witch is latest one. New version of Apex comes with some nice features like interactive reports.
If you have installed XE you are ready to go developer Apex applications and practice Oracle database

I have installed OEPE through Eclipse Update Manager for Eclipse Galileo 3.5. I have already installed oracle10g express edition and Appache tomcat 6.0 for web development.
Now I have unlocked the hr user and following instruction from white paper to use OEPE

Now you can configure the database connection in Eclipse. Click Window > Show View > Other..., select Data Management > Data Source Explorer, and click OK. Right click Database Connections, click New, select Oracle Database Connection, enter the hr name for the connection, and click Next.
Select Oracle Database 10g Driver Default, change the server name in the jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:xe URL if necessary, enter the hr user name and its password, click Test Connection to verify that everything is correct, and click Finish
But here when I tried to connect to the database, it give me error - Creating connection to New oracle database connection has encountered a problem
