Unable to download using Safari

I would like to download the latest version of iTunes using Safari, but the following happens:
1. Click button to download iTunes from Apple website.
2. Safari window flashes and displays completion page saying download should proceed automatically.
3. Download window never opens.
This same thing happens if I try to download any other software such as Flash or Firefox. I've checked my preferences for Safari downloads and they are set to download to my desktop. Also, I have no problems downloading e-mail attachments from my yahoo account using Safari.

Have you recently tried Speed Download or any other download manager and then deleted it? If so, this could be your problem. Speed Download, for example, needs to be uninstalled using their uninstaller application which is included in the folder with the installer. If this appears to be your problem, I would download a fresh copy of the program by control-clicking on the download link and choosing "Download Linked File", install it, and then uninstall it using their uninstaller.

So I have Safari and Firefox and Google Chrome for browsers. Until recently, Chrome was doing its job and downloading my files for me. Today, not so much. The problem i'm having is that I have to do more work than i should have to to just download a file. Normally, if you want to download a file, just left click the file and it asks you if you want to save it or something like that. Now it just brings you to a blank page with an address at the top with .dmg or .pdf but doesn't download the actual thing i'm trying to download for me. Now i have to do some b.s. right click on the link and click "save file as..." This may not seem like a lot to do, but in relation to just clicking left click, this is a huge annoyance. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I have not changed anything in the preferences.

If you did, and didn't pay for it, as the demo or grace period ends,
and it is not paid for, it will block you from downloading. And if you
don't use their uninstaller that comes with it, and simply trash it -- it will still block you.
Can you find Speed Download or Yazsoft by using "Find?"

I tried downloading MY WOT for Safari, it starts to do so but then just disappears, I tried several times to no avail. I do not use Safari all the time, I mainly use Firefox latest version. My version of Safari is 5.1.9, I keep all software up-to-date, why is this problem happening, can someone help please.

Downloads using safari

I've just download OS X 10.4.6 and begin to have problems downloading from internet using Safari. No download takes place and keeps showing the same page. A similar problem occured with OS X 10.3.9. Anyone experiencing the same?

I don't have problems visiting "sites", my problem is with downloads. When donwload should start, No download takes place and keeps showing always the same page (seems to be starting but it doesn’t) .
Also it isn't prblem with the size of download.I guess it colud be a problem with safari, but I don't have idea how verify or how to resolve it.

Can't download using Safari

Been a mac user for 15+ years, but this glitch(?) has me all twisted. Where to start! This all seemed to have started when I started having problems with iTunes/Store and I likely have made matters worse by trashing files I shouldn't have. Not real sure what exactly happened, but it's a real brain twister this time around. Been battling with this for most of the weekend, and have tried everything I can think of. Backed into a corner now! For instance, I trashed (don't ask me why??) the X509 anchors in my keychain which has only added to the problems, and now I've lost all my pw's.
I reinstalled OSX 10.4.2, creating a previous system folder, and spent the day updating updating back to 10.4.11 which hasn't helped at all. I haven't been able to even start up my Firefox or download any file via Safari. This was before or after the reinstall. I have a wireless broadband/pc card and barely have a connection. Tomorrow I'm suppose to get an upgraded cd with the driver seeing as I can't download via Verizon's website using Safari. No matter what I try to download it will only make it to 8.2mb and state it can't create a file.
I need serious help and would appreciate any and all suggestions!

as a guess, if you have external FireWire hard drive, install everything - OS, apps, updates etc. on to the external drive and boot from it.

BUMMERS!!! SO what about the PARELLEL program I purchased...I was unable to load that on the IPAD as well..same reason? I thought if I couldn't put firefox on the safari, I'd download the parellel program and then load it up....spent $80 on the program;.....can't use it can I? Unable to download using IE 10 or 11

I have Windows 7 32-bit PC's with full updates. We are on a domain network, however, I have tested the problem as I'm about to describe on my home Windows 7 64-bit PC, and it behaves the same.
Using IE11, I cannot download anything, no messages, no prompts, it's as if the mouse wasn't working (but it is of course). I cannot even open a document from a website, as it needs to be downloaded to the local machine before opening. If I revert to IE9,
it works fine. For the longest time, we have been sticking with IE9 for this reason, but are now finding reasons in our environment to update to IE11.
I am a PC tech for a school board. There are about 30 of us that look after 10000+ PC's in 150+ schools. Time is very important to us. We use a program called 'Deepfreeze' by Faronics. It allows us to lockdown the pc's without having to set multitudes
of options. The user can do anything they like to the software & data on the C: drive, but when the PC reboots it goes back to it's last 'frozen' state, the pc's shutdown every night at 6:00.
When we need to make a change, we login as ourselves (i.e. Tech), turn off Deepfreeze, make our change (i.e. install new printer), turn on deepfreeze. We have the regkey [HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList] Default= set to 'Tech'
(rather than the 'Default' user). When the user logs in they get a copy of our trimmed down profile with changes. This saves us from having to copy our profile to the 'Default' user every time we make a change. When the computer shuts down, the users profile
disappears (via DeepFreeze), and the next time they login they get another fresh profile.
What we have found is that when the above regkey is set to 'Tech' and we are logged in as 'Tech' we can't download anything. When the regkey is set to anything other than 'Tech' and we login, IE works fine. When the regkey is Tech, and anybody else logs
in, IE works fine. Of course, it is a major obstacle when the regkey is tech and we are logged in, we can't download anything to make our profile changes. Firefox and Chrome work fine in all situations.
My educated guess seems that it is a folder rights issue, but can't pinpoint it.
Any suggestions/insight would be appreciated.

We need more information to analyze this issue.
This is an odd phenomenon, it seems like you use the mandatory user profile, right?
How did you set that default user profile to Tech? Did you mean you just change the user folder name?
Could you do any other operation freely when you logon as "Tech"?
Try to reset the Internet Explorer:
1.Close all Internet Explorer windows that are currently open.
2.Open the desktop, and then tap or click the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar. Changing your settings will affect both Internet Explorer and Internet Explorer for the desktop.
3.Tap or click the Tools button, and then tap or click
Internet options.
4.Tap or Click the Advanced tab, and then tap or click
Reset.
5.In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, tap or click Reset.
6.When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings, tap or click
Close, and then tap or click OK. You'll need to restart your PC for these changes to take effect.

Unable to download using Vista; FF goes to run or save; I've selected both; download goes thru "downloading" and then disappears; can't find anywhere; have tried this many, many times on two identical computer setups.

Have tried many times to download both Firefox and Thunderbird on two 2-year old, rarely used, identical computers, both using Vista. (I downloaded both successfully on an old computer using XP.) The program goes thru the downloading process; alternately I've told it to "run", "save", "save to desktop", "save to my documents folder on desktop." It disappears when through downloading. I've checked in these folders plus temporary folder as found through "tools/internet options. I've tried to find these downloads by using "run" and using every word I can think of to help find them (temporary folder/or User/my name/firefox 3.6.9.ext and others. Get the message can't be found. AirPort Utility works only with an Apple router, as does the utility for a Netgear work only with a Netgear router.
B: Why won't AirPort utility find my AirPort Express?
Any of 3-4 common reasons. We'll have to work on troubleshooting that.
C: Why, on the two occasions the AP Utility did find the APE, did it not give me the option anywhere to set it up as an EXTENDER to the current network?
Apple designed the wireless "extend" feature on their routers to only work with other Apple routers.
D: Is there any other way to add the APE to my network as desired without using AP Utility?

Not sure how you want to proceed at this point. It might be possible to use the AirPort Express to extend the Netgear network if you connect it using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection back to the Netgear router.
If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, your best bet by far is to use another Netgear extender or repeater, which would likely be compatible with your Netgear router.

Unable to download using the Creative Cloud desktop

When I try and download applications I get the following message: "Installation Failed. Unable to reach Adobe servers. Please check your internet connectivity, firewall setting, and then try again."
I am definitely connected to the internet and have disabled the firewall but still have them same issue. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the creative cloud desktop.
Operating System: OS X 10.8.4
Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Community!
Please check the hosts file in your Mac and delete all the Adobe entries from the hosts file. Location is as follows:
Finder>> Go>> Go to folder>> /etc>> Hosts
Open the hosts file with Textedit and delete the Adobe entries (If available)
Once you have deleted the Adobe entries from the hosts file launch Adobe Creative cloud.
If the issue is still not resolved then please check http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-issues.html for further troubleshooting.

If I am not wrong then your browser needs to support cookies. Download managers pick up the username/password information from the cookies that are saved by the browsers (whether IE/firefox or whatever).

Cannot open pdf files downloaded using firefox. They open fine using safari, and used to open fine before my latest update of firefox.????

I am running the latest version of snow leopard on my mac. Since the last update of Firefox, I have not been able to open any newly downloaded pdf's. I get a message that says "The file cannot be opened.

When I download using Safari, everything works fine. I have been using Firefox for a long time and all of my bookmarks are in Firefox.

You cannot download using Safari at all on the iPad so I'm not sure what you are trying to do. You can only download content from one of the Apple Stores on the iPad - iTunes, the App Store or iBooks.

Why have Firefox stopped me

I downloaded Blue Fire Reader and it requested an adobe id. I clicked on the link that was in the error message stated http//adeactivateadobe.com. Found out that if the date and time on my Ipad is wrong that it won't let me download a book. I was off 5 hours. I reset my clock settings and adobe id let me download a book from the library. I am back to using Overdrive and adobe again on my ipad.

Downloads from Safari going to trash bin

Hello,
Whenever I download files from Safari they go to the Trash bin. It's only with direct downloads using Safari as iTunes and other program downloads/updates go to the appropriate locations. I obviously messed something up (probably deleted some important download files or pathway) and I don't know how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the basic question.

If I want to create a Download folder on the desktop that Safari will download to, I'm thinking I should create it at the Macintosh HD level so that it would be at the same level as the Applications and Documents folders, right?
No. That level is for system-wide folders. There shouldn't be a Documents folder there. Documents should be in your home folder, along with a Downloads folder. If you really want the Downloads folder on the desktop, Command-Option-Drag it there. That will create an alias to it on the desktop but leave the folder in its normal location.
Instead of putting it on the desktop, why not drag it to the dock (to the right of the divider bar) or to the Finder sidebar (lower section)?
