Unable to drag clips on timeline

I have seen many forums about not being able to drag clips from source down to the timeline. but my issue is not being able to drag clips once already into timeline
I had a project started and was able to move clips around regularly, so its not a lack of knowledge, but once the updated 2014 version of premiere pro came out I have not been able to move my clips. I will click and it gives me the red cut symbol,
I thought maybe because it wasn't rendered all my effects, but its the same issue on unaffected clips as well.... What am I missing?! I have track matte effects on some clips.
Maybe a stupid question... are we supposed to delete the old version of premier pro? new to the suite life. Didn't think that would matter that much. advice
Any advice would be great... or even if have the same problem, so I could go to the adobe tech support to report it

Yes, it is now and still has an issue. I realized I wasn't able to drag other media into the timeline as well as the other forums, I have since added a "sequence" like those have suggested but still the same issue occurs, unable to move anything around. its so weird it will act like its trying to move, or understand its supposed to but it just doesn't read that im dragging it. im on a PC. specifically an Asus

  • Why can't i drag clips to timeline?

    I'm new.
Why can't i drag clips to timeline? I set in and out points but clips will not drag.

So it sounds like you're dragging from the source monitor and not from the project window. Either way, is it creating a new sequence for you when you drop it in over the blank timeline? If not what IS it doing? What version of pr are you using?

  • Can`t left click and drag clip into timeline..Need advice

Can`t left click and drag clip into timeline, or drag clips around in timeline.
Can insert into timeline from Source Window but can't drag from source window.
Can cut and paste within timeline.
Restarting cs5 doesn`t help, but restarting computer solves problem for a while.
Tried many mouses, but that didn`t help.

Thank you so much for asking
In the Project Panel a left click highlights the asset but ignores the drag.
In the timeline, a left click highlights the panel and when I try to drag it gives a flicker but that's all.
I can cut and paste in the timeline.
A restart of CS5 has no effect. Restarting the computer solves the problem for a while.
    Four different mouses--same problem.

  • Can't drag clips into timeline (newbie warning)

I'm sure that this has been discussed previously on this board, but I couldn't find a post.
Back to my problem: All of a sudden, the current project that I'm working on will not let me drag clips into the timeline. The clips turn to a "lite" color of gray and freeze. I'm brand new to this so a uncondescending response would be greatly appreciated.

Hi larget2 - this being a very friendly board, it is most unlikely that you will be scorned! We've all sought and been given willing help here from time to time.
Some more details might be of help in solving your problem:
How big is your project, and how much storage space do you have?
What is the source of your clips?
Is this your first project, or have you successfully completed others?
How far into the project were you before the problem began?
Is your project stored on your start-up disk, or on an external drive?
try repairing permissions (Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility), and with iMovie closed down, trash this file: Users(you)>Library>Preferences>com.apple.imovie.plist.

  • Lags while dragging clips in timeline?

I just started using premeire cs6 recently.  Making the switch from Final Cut.
I noticed that when I grab a clip in the timeline and drag it to a new location, it has a lag.  The clip is choppy and always dragging about a half a second behind my mouse pointer which moves in real time.  In final cut, I never experienced any lag whatsoever which dragging clips around the timeline.  Is this normal in Premiere?  If not, any ideas on how to fix this?
I'm running an 8-core Mac Pro that doesn't typically run into performance issues... especially over something seemingly simple such as this.
    Please help.  Thanks.

I'm having the same problem but on windows. When I drag clips from the media browser that are located on my raid or p2 cards it takes a longer then what it seems it should be for them to appear on the timeline. The mouse curser doesn't change for me so it just looks like you didn't grab the clips but a few seconds after they lag then poof show up.

I don't know what happened but all of a sudden, when I drag clips from project into the timeline, I'm no longer asked if I want to match clip settings with sequence settings.  How can I re-enable this asking feature?

  • Trouble dragging clips to timeline

We are having trouble dragging clips into our project timeline. The clips seem to fade out and can't be manipulated or dragged. We have not had this problem before.

I only know of one cause for that:
When you have finished importing the video do not go straight to editing but first save the project, close iMovie, then open the project again.
Now the clips should behave themselves!
I hardly ever use the clips pane except for occasionally 'parking' a clip for later use. I always import straight into the timeline.

  • Dragging clips to timeline viewer

Does anyone know why I get a message such as "this may take a while" when i attempt to drag a clip from the clips pane to the timeline viewer?" It does take a looooong time. I don't remember this happening in earlier iMovie versions.
Sometimes it also starts to "letterbox" when i do the same thing. And you can't stop these actions.
    Thanks.

    Hi Carol:
You can change the Letterboxing in the preference of iMovie:
Import/ automatic conversion from pillarbox to letterbox - you need to un-check it.
To keep from waiting for it to Letterbox, change the settings to DV Widescreen when you open a new project -If you do record in 16:9 aspect ratio.

  • Drag clips to timeline 1 in PRE7

I simply want to have some clips on time line 1. But when I drag the file from my folder to the timeline it always appears on the most upper one. Also an improvement I missed in version 4? I found no threads on this issue, so it should be a minor item I guess.
And can I disable the organiser function or at least delete the clips from that area? Al my clips are intended to die in the bin... (So no reason to use this functionality)
    Rob

What project preset are you using???? If you are using an AVCHD DD 5.1 audio project the first 3 timelines are reserved for DD 5.1 audio. If you drag a clip with stereo audio to the timeline it will be placed on video/audio track 4. Alternatively, the opposite, if you are using a non DD 5.1 audio project preset and you use a DD 5.1 audio clip it will be placed on the upper most track. So basically you need to pick the correct project preset for the clips that you are using.
I am not sure if you can turn off the Organizer functionality but you can delete the clips from the Organizer and it will not effect your project.

  • Cannot drag clips to timeline

The clips go 'grey' when I attempt to drag them to the timeline to set up the movie. They do not move. Just go grey. Every clip is like that. I can move from one clip to another but it's the same. Can't make a movie. Used to be able to---many times. I wonder what's changed? It's been about 8 mths. since I last made a movie--ungrade problems? I'm up to date with the downloads...something incapatable with new downloads?
    thanks

Others have reported your problem, as you will see if you use the search function of this forum.
What seems to work is saving, closing iMovie, and then reopening iMovie. Try that and see what happens.

  • Dragging clip to timeline

When I drag a video clip to a timeline, the audio doesn't accompany. The first clip on the timeline has it's audio but no subsequent attempts succeed.

    Hi cislander1952,
I would make sure that the audio is patched (e.g. A1 > A1) in the patch panel before dragging it to the Timeline. See this discussion for further details: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5617648#5617648

  • Problem dragging clips to timeline...

I am pretty new to this so there is probably an answer right under my nose. Anyway, when I import .jpg's over to my clip viewer they show up but when I click to drag to timeline they gray out and won't move to timeline. I have been working on this project for a couple of days and did not have this issue prior to this morning. Help?
    Thanks much,
    Chris

Finally fixed same problem today. Here is what I found in Making a Movie in iMovie by Jeff Carlson. It worked for me.
Open disk utility which is located in the utilities folder within application folder. Choose your start up disk and clik to repair permissions and do that for all disks if you have more than one and restart your computer.
It solved my problem. Good luck!

  • Unable to move Clip in timeline

When attempting to move a clip in the timeline, I get a "cannot move" icon (circle with a slash) and a white rectangle icon. And I am unable to move that clip or any other clip in the timeline. I have had this occur several times and I am generally able to exit and reenter and then I can move the clip. But now I am receiving the response even after exiting and restarting and even rebooting.
    Any ideas?
This is using Premier Elements 7.0.
    Thanks!

Sounds like your project has gotten too big and computer resources have been consumed, making everything you do slow, non-responsive. You will need to break your project up into smaller chunks and work on each chunk in a separate project. Then export each project to a DV-AVI file. Reconstruct the whole movie with just the DV-AVI files in a new project.
If you have photos in your project, resize them to be no more than 1000 x 750 in a photo editing application before adding them to Premiere Elements. The photos that come from megapixel digital cameras are just too big for Premiere Elements.
