Unable to drag drop or copy/paste now under 10.5.1 !!

Since upgrading to 10.5.1 I can no longer copy/paste or drag/drop in the finder or other apps such as keynote!! First time around I re-installed leapord and all was fixed.. since software update has now re-upgraded the MacBook Pro to 10.5.1 again.. the issue has reappears.
Any advice or guidance on the cure appreciated..

This issue has plagued me for three days. I had an instance of Parallels Desktop running and it asked if I wanted to upgrade to a newer version. Selecting "Yes" initiated the process, but once the update package was downloaded, the VM application hung. A forced quit was required, which destabilized the System and required a reboot. Following the reboot, this exact problem arose.
Trashing the preferences indicated in this thread did not work.
Repairing permissions found an issue with the /tmp directory and suggested it was fixed.
Further research this morning revealed another thread covering another aspect of this topic. The suggestion to change the permissions for /tmp to "7771" solved the problem. Give that a try.
How the permissions on that directory were corrupted by an application crash is beyond me, but this seemed to solve my issues with copy/paste drag/drop; my inability to launch X11; and a video conversion problem I was experiencing. It makes sense though, as all of these anomalies were likely the result of an inability to create a temporary scratch file in that directory.

Can't drag/drop or copy/paste; spotlight missing

I can no longer drag/drop or copy/paste files or folders. I can select "copy" but the option to "paste" is grayed out. I also no longer have spotlight on the menu bar.
One possible cause - there's a tmp folder in my trash bin. I have no idea how it got there. Is that the cause? if so, how do I reinstall the tmp folder?
I'm running 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro. Thanks.

Now to my questions. Please help if you can:
1) I can see that the tmp folder is an alias folder now; but can I still delete the original folder that's still in the trash (which is minus two files now, because I tried emptying the trash)?!??
2) Also, I have a x2 backup of the original folder before putting it in the trash (and emptying; that's how I know the tmp folder is minus two files). So my second question is, can I put the backup folder BACK where the alias folder is, and them delete the alias!???

Drag/drop or copy/paste images out of LR into other apps?

First time posting here, I've been an Aperture user the last few years and am now exploring and enjoying Lightroom. One thing I can do in Aperture is to drag and drop or copy/paste images directly from it into other apps. For example, I'll take images from Aperture and put them into Powerpoint (so this is not involving Apple's Media Browser, as in Keynote). When I do this, the generated preview of the image (not the actual RAW file) is inserted into the other app.
Is this possible in LR? I have not seen a way to do it, and couldn't find anything about it on the forum. Or do I have to manually export each image before I can use in another app?

Ah, I've figured it out now you've confirmed it can be done. It looks like I have to be in grid mode in the Library, then I can drag and drop just fine, including RAW files (obviously converted to jpeg). In Aperture I could drag and drop in either full-view or thumbnail, and I was previously trying it from loupe or Develop view in LR.
Regarding Keynote vs PPT, yes I often prefer working in Keynote, but my clients mostly work in PPT, and there are still too many conversion glitches. Besides, I can pretty much make a PPT look like a Keynote, or vice versa , for example this one...

I deleted the "desktop" in tiger, can't "alias", "copy" or "drag & drop" anything to it now, I get a message that "desktop can not be changed"

I was trying to make an alias of "SAFARI" icon to have on the desktop & in the dock as well, I managed to make the safari icon appear on the desktop, but when I wanted to switch from firefox to safari it wouldn't open / start safari, so OK, no big deal, I moved it the trash, ( by rt. click,>move to trash>click ) the horror starts here, everything on the desktop disappeared into the trash !!!!! ......
So I have tried to "drag & drop", "alias", "copy", "duplicate" to get things back out of the trash, but every attempt is met with a message "the desktop con not be changed", and whatever I try to bring anything out of the trash window, it gets a "minus - sign" added to it when it crosses over the edge of the trash window, and of course it jumps right back into the trash when the mouse button is released.
I think (barely) I will need the do a "clean install", or a "restore" from the install DVD to restore / get the desktop back.
And while the only thing on the desktop now is the HDD icon, clicking it open does not show the desktop in the Lf. column of the window where it should be, or any OS X folders when clicking on anything, but the OS is is running for this post and yahoo, etc., and there is a upward facing arrow next to the "network" name in the left column, that doesn't go away, like after installing some software, this is weird !!

What did you do? This looks like a terminal command.
Or, did you click on the safari icon then right click on the safari icon then click on open?
I do not understand how you that moving to the trash would be helpful.

This will bring you to a panel asking you for your language. Pick your language.

Click on Utilities menu item. This will give you a pulldown list of utilities.
Click on the disk utility.
You are now in disk utility. Pick your disk. Click on repair it should be on the lower right of the panel.
Once the repair completes successfully, you should update your permissions.
Verify a disk
As an alternative, you can verify that the filesystem on the disk is correct. You will not be able to repair the file system.
I suggest that you use disk utility to verify that your startup disk is OK. Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility Start up disk utility. On the left pane view, you will see a list of all your disks. click on your startup disk. Click on the First Aid Tab. Click on verify. Hopefully your disk will verify. If not, you have to boot from your installation DVD and run Disk First Aid from there to attempt to repair your file-system.

Audio drag & drop = (?) copy to project folder ?

sorry for the enigmatic topic title, but it explains what I want to achieve.
I would like Logic to copy an audio file to the projects directory after I drag & drop it in the arrange (just like it is in Cubase).
I'm really confused about the way Logic handles audio files, and reading the manual did not help me at all. I've been working with Logic for the past year and still audio is a bit... difficult. Any advice and tips is highly appreciated.

Before you start work on a project, select File"Save As..." and check the 'Include Assets" box.
(This sets the project audio recording path to the project folder).
Hiding under the 'Advanced Options', there is a check box to select "Copy External Audio Files to the Project Folder".
This does what you need!

Unable to Drag & Drop Files/Icons

Suddenly I am unable to drag and drop icons/files. I can right-click/control-click on icons and files, but I cannot drag them anywhere.
How did this happen? I wish I knew. All I can tell you is that I restarted my PowerBook, logged in, and -- bam. No more dragging and dropping.
I've restarted the PBook. I've restarted the Finder numerous times. I've repaired permissions. I've verified the HD. Nothing has worked so far.
Any ideas?

After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...

Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!

Unable to drag & drop emails

I've suddenly been unable to drag and drop emails from one inbox to another. For example, from my junk mailbox to the trash. This was the way I was doing it yesterday but after a update, unable to do so today.

I have the same annoying issue. The open email is stuck in the middle of the page and I cant see 2 open emails at the same time. How many times did you need to restart to fix this please? Thanks

Unable to drag/drop to my ipod

I recently loaded i-tunes software to my computer. (I was using the musicmatch jukebox previously to load music to my ipod.) I am unable to drag and drop music onto my ipod using i-tunes, though can drag and drop to playlists. Anyone else have this problem? What do I do? I just updated the latest ipod updates.

iTunes and Apple have a designed a special format for music and as far as I'm aware you cannot use the iPod to "sync" with other programs. This is their way of securing their future I guess. So, what you should do is use iTunes, click file, import, and then find where the files are saved (typically somewhere in My Documents) and then select the files and it will convert the files to the "iPod" format, show in your library, and sync with your iPod.

Unable to Drag & Drop email into Smart Mail Folders

With Tiger, one could create "Mail Folders" and Drag & Drop emails into them. How is this possible with Leopard? I create the Folders and Sub-sets of Folders but I cannot archive my emails by dragging and Dropping. Anyone have a solution?

The title of your question mentions "Smart Mail" folders.
The text of the question mentions "Mail Folders".
Drag and drop only works with the regular "Mail Folders". If you try to drag a message into a Smart Mailbox it will refuse to go there because the message doesn't qualify.
"Smart Mail Folders" are supposed to be set up to automatically alias an email in your inbox that has specific qualities, like, The sender is a member of a group in your addressbook, the subject contains a certain word, or other trigger (That's what makes them smart).
Depending on what you are trying to do, you may do better with creating regular "Mail Folders" so that you can manually sort important emails as you wish without having to build the Smart rule.

Drag & Drop without copy across collections

When I drag & drop photos from one collection to another, selected photos are left in the original collection and also added to the other one. Often I would like to actually move the photos from one collection to another, therefore I would find it very convenient to be able to do it with a modifier key during drag & drop (e.g. Ctrl on a PC).

I agree with this request. I've also found moving images between collections unwieldy.

Can't drag and drop or copy paste

I have an iMac with a fusion drive using yosemite. It started a couple weeks ago where the progress bar would not show up during copying files. It seems I can not drag and drop files between folders, drives, or jump drives. I also notice some files that are grayed out that appear to be some of the files I wanted to move or copy on my external drives. They say they were created in 1969 and modified in 1984. I cannot delete these at all. I fixed permissions, restarted, and reinstalled Yosemite. I tried deleting a file in the library/preferences called com.apple.finder, which did not do anything either. Any Ideas?

Select the item in the Finder and open the Info window. If the Created date is January 24, 1984, see below.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Select the text on the line below by dragging across it. Don't include the blank space at the end of the line. Only the text should be highlighted.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V, then press the space bar.

Click in the Terminal window to activate it, then press return.

Unable to remove Narrative Section / Copy Paste script overflow in textarea

Hi all,
It's kind of frustrating when I added a Narrative Section in Reporting Module and I failed to remove it by press on the delete [x] button on the right top corner of the narrative section.
Secondly, I have embedded javascript with HTML Table Tag in the prefix of one of the narrative section, however, I found that I unable to view the rest of the of the lines of my script once I paste it inthe prefix section. Funny thing is it still running as it's expected to be. May I know is this some design flaws of CRM OD Configuration UI?

I should have mentioned that I had tried removing "on error resume next" from the script already but that makes it only more curious. When executing the second script that I posted (try to delete a folder from which a file is open) without this line, a pop-up
error is thrown for the line "objFS.DeleteFolder strFolderName" with the description "Permission denied". So I know that the error is there, where I expect it because the file is open, but when I run that same script WITH the line "on error resume next" that
error is not written into the log file, although that's what I'm asking to do in the function. That's the part I don't get: there is an error, but I can't catch it and write it to the log. On top of all that the function exits.
I know I posted long code but I wanted to be complete and very specific here because I have the feeling that it could be more complex than it looks at first sight. It is very easy to reproduce though, and I would really appreciate if someone of you could
follow these steps to do so and see what happens exactly for yourself (by looking into the logfile).
1. Create a folder "Alfa" in "C:\Program Files"
2. Create a text file inside that folder. Write a few words in it, save it and leave it open.
3. Run the second script I posted, the folder will not be deleted (which is normal), but the error is not written to the logfile in "C:\Windows\Temp\Alfa_Adsuite_2013_2.log" for the reason I can not understand.
4. Run the first script. It does not include a function, but the exact same code that was inside the function of the second script. It acts as it should: the folder is not deleted, but it tries 10 times to delete the folder and writes the errors into the
logfile.

Unable to drag & drop

Just got my MacBook Pro. Connected my ipod and added my purchased itunes music to the library on the new computer. So...when I go to the "Purchased" playlist, it does not allow me to add songs to a newly created playlist by drag and drop. I unchecked all items but still doesn't allow me to add these songs to another playlist. Thanks for any help you can offer.

First, make sure that the playlist is a regular playlist and not a smart playlist. If drag-n-drop still does not work, right click the track and use the Add To Playlist command.

Unable to Drag & Drop Album Artwork

anyone else having problems dragging artwork into iTunes 7? unfortunately, much of my music is unavailable in ITMS, therefore, the artwork for these albums does not get imported when i import the CD. this includes a few Beatles CDs and many indie bands. any fixes or word on what the problem may be?

I found a Widget (on the Apple site, ironically) that grabs album art for either the playing track, or the tracks selected in iTunes, and does a good job. It queries the Amazon database. If it can't find a match, it will launch a Google image search - and that works well, too. Just shift-click a batch of tracks, hit F12 for the widget, click the little "find art" button and it comes back with its guess very quickly.
