Unable to drag TIFFs JPGS back to desktop from a DVD that I just burned

I feel funny for posting this... I save my photography to DVD every day - I just burned 8 DVDs. I am unable to drag the jpegs from the DVD back onto my desktop! - I get a circle with a diagonal line. What did I do wrong (after all these years). I can open individual images and "save as" but that is not what I want to do - I want to select and drag multiple files back into a new folder. In permissions I have read & write permission.

You say you have read and write permissions, but you don't say to WHAT you have them. If you open your home folder and do GetInfo on the Desktop folder therein, what are the permissions for it? If instead of dragging items to the Desktop you instead drag them to some other folder, does that work?

Using vitual machine programs (VirtualBox, Parallels, VMWare Fusion) you can run both at the same time.
Load Windows under BootCamp. Then load the VM software and select the existing BootCamp partition as the "virtualized space".
But ... BootCamp first, following Csound1's advice about backups. And you will wantto boost RAM most likely because you need to allocate certain amount of system RAM to each "virtual machine", as well as leaving some for OSX.
But ... BootCamp first.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:

Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

Only if you backed up the phone before that and did not back up after that. App settings and data are part of the backup. But all other data will be set back as well, you can't choose a single app to be restored from the backup.

Unable to drag a CD into my shuffle from iTues

I have had no problem dragging a variety of cd's into the iPod icon, form music to language tapes but for some reason, I am having problems with a CD by Dr Wayne Dyer--The secrets of the Power of Intention. I purchased this 6-cd set and downloaded it into iTunes and have played it from iTunes. I have tried draging individual tracks and also coping all of the tracks and dragging them but all have failed. When I grab the tracks and I attempt to drop them into the iPod icon; instead of a green colored circle, a red colored circle appears with the number of tracks and I am unable complete the process. Do I need to download this CD into another format and if so, what is the process
Does any one have any suggestions?

Did you try clicking on the check mark (to remove the check mark) and then dragging the CD content to your Shuffle? I kept having problems dragging the CD to the Shuffle. Then I Unchecked a track and dragged over. Voila!
If you click on all the check marks on the CD, then highlight the first track, then while holding "shift" click on the last track - and drag it over to the Shuffle - you won't have to go back and forth dragging tracts to the Shuffle.
Now, I realize that I may have been the last person in the world to figure this out - but I was so excited when I did, and it makes life so e-z!

I can only guess since you provide no details, but my guess is that these are either not industry-standard MPEG-4 videos but rather one of the offshoots that use the same file extension, or they're a resolution, frame rate or aspect ratio that iTunes can't accept. Can the videos and tracks be played in QuickTime Player? If so, open the Movie Inspector, find the Format information, and post that here along with your versions of Windows and iTunes. That might help people figure out what might be going wrong.

I'm trying to extract the files from a dvd back to Premiere, the project was assembled with Premiere Pro 1.5, I need to re-edit that same project. The dvd is not a data disk.

Along with the material in Eddie's link, you might want to read over this ARTICLE by Jeff Bellune, posted in the Adobe Encore FAQ's. While it addresses getting the material into Encore for authoring, much will apply to your situation.
Personally, I use an A-D bridge (though the file structure is already in digital form) to Capture directly from my DVD player to my computer. This is for non-commercial DVD's from my clients, where the original material is no longer available.. It's quick, easy and my Capture software Exports as DV-AVI Type II, so there is no additional conversion needed. If I need to work on the Menu structure, etc., then I use a workflow similar to Jeff's, outlined in his article.

just recently i have been trying to drag photos from iphoto onto a folder in my desktop and am unable to. it will show the circle with the white line prohibiting this move. i attempted to look for permissions, etc. but can't. please help.

Thanks for the response but this does not solve the problem. Regardless of the collection selected I still get the full circle with a line through the center. When grabbing the photo the thumbnail appears but as soon as I drag the photo into the collections panel the thumbnail disappears and the full circle with the line appears.

I usually am able to drag and drop my photos from the library to my desktop, but it is displaying the circle with the slash through it for permissions. I did rebuild my permissions but have noticed that I am also unable to take screenshots due to a "permission" issue. "You do not have permission to save files where screenshots are saved." window appears. Please let me know what I can do to resolve this problem. I just bought my new MacBook Pro after having the first generation MBP from 2006. I love these computers....but this one seems to be giving me a few issues.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Launch Disk Utility and repair Disk Permissions. See if that will help the screenshot issue. By default theyt are saved to the Desktop.
Next launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select the option to repair the library's file permissions.

Drag and drop link to desktop from Chromium

Hi, maybe my google fu skills are lacking and this belongs in the newbie corner -- but why can't I grab a link in chromium (in the address bar) and drag it to the desktop? I'm so used to doing it as a temporary bookmark in windows and macs that it always catches me off guard when it doesn't work. Google reports a workaround for nautilus where you drag it to the bookmark bar first then to the desktop. This doesn't seem to work with lxde/openbox.

Lxde requires some custom configuration - there's no drag and drop solution at this stage.
To make a desktop link to a webpage, you need to create a file foo.desktop on the desktop (surprise surprise), open it with a text editor, and set some parameters in the following fashion
NAME=FOO
EXEC=chromium www.foo.com
ICON=chromium
This will set up a shortcut called foo with the chromium icon which links to www.foo.com

Moving Itunes library back to desktop from external drive-problems

I had moved my itunes library to an external HD becuase I did not have enough space on my desktop. I recently upgraded my desktop and tried moving my itunes library back. I did not go too well. After several tries I set itunes to keep the library on the external drive since I did not delete it. Now when I open itunes it can't find the location for 90% of my music. I hope the application did not delete the library on the external drive. I don't think it did since the file size has not changed. How can I set this up so my songs are on my desktop and can be accessed by itunes? Any help would be appreciated.

I had used that article and followed it exactly but I am still having problems. I moved my library back to the external drive, all of my songs are there but itunes has to be directed to the songs to find them.

Unable to print to Canon iR-Adv C5045 from MacBook Pro that is connected to Windows computer and shared on the network

I am unable to print to a Canon iR-Adv C5045 from a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.9.4) that is connected to Windows NT computer and shared on the company network. I am connected to the network by ethernet.
I was able to add the printer manually by going to Advanced, Windows printer via spoolss, smb://computer name/printer name and used the Canon iR-ADV C5045/5051 driver.
When I print it appears to be printing but nothing comes out. I checked the completed jobs from the Print Queue and the job is listed. Checked the print log on the printer and it isn't listed. Is there a different driver I should be using for this configuration?

You may not have a choice as to what driver you can use. If the ADV C5045 only has the default UFR2 printer kit, then you will have to use the UFR2 driver - which is what you are using now. If you can access the copier, press the Counter Check button on the control panel. Then on the display you will see an entry labelled Check Device Configuration. Select this and scroll down through the pages. You are looking for an entry called PS. If you see it then the Canon does have the optional Postscript printer kit enabled and this will let you use an alternate driver. One suggestion would be to create the printer again using the same setting that you have done already but this time select the Generic Postscript driver included with the OS rather than use the Canon driver. This will help to determine if the driver is the cause.
If there is no PS option you will have to use the UFR2 driver and this could be the problem, as the Canon drivers don't always work well on a Mac via a Windows share. As a test, are you able to create a print queue directly to the Canon rather than via the Windows share? If you can, then this will let you check if the driver currently installed will work, as there can be settings on the copier that can block/stop you from printing. Assuming that you can print to the Canon with a direct connection from the Mac, then we can work on getting the printing via the shared queue. But if it doesn't print directly from the Mac, then it confirms that it may not be the server and more to do with the copier.

Unable to boot and install Windows 8.1 from a DVD

Hi, I have an ENVY 17 (3277nr) with windows 8.1 in it but I'm unable to update it since several months ago so I decided to reinstall the OS so I went to the windows site that lets you download an ISO image of windows 8.1 to burn it into a disc (right now I dont have a 4gb usb at hand but is also possible).
I already burned the disc by right clicking the ISO and selecting 'burn disc image' and changed the boot options but every time I turn on my computer all I see is a single underscore and then the regular windows 8 boot screen.
I already visited help wbesites in this regard and I've read things like the windows 8 UEFI thing (not on my laptop since I've upgraded from w7) and the security settings on the BIOS but none of them seem to fix the problem.
Additional details:
Oddly, when trying to open the burned dvd it only says 4.37gb out of 4.37gb, do you think my dvd drive might be damaged?
PLEASE, HELP ME OUT, BEEN 4 DAYS OF THIS HELL :/

Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forum. The first thing I would try in this situation is to download and burn the ISO from another computer.
If you have already set your boot options to boot to CD/DVD and a new dvd is still not reading you may have a hardware issue with your dvd drive.
Does the DVD drive read dvds when you have booted up to windows?
As well I would try putting the image on a USB drive and try that.
I find on occasion when I use the windows software to make an ISO it is hit and miss. There are other software out there that you can try and some are free or what is known as share ware.
Now even if you burn a good image you started with a Windows 7 system. The actual image is more than a UEFI and you will not be able to read it if you system is set as a legacy system.

Now if your system came with Windows 7 the product key that you have for your system will not work for Windows 8.1. This is one thing you will want to consider.

I'm trying to import a moive into imoves froma advd. The dvd contains an imovie I created. I need it back into the computer

It can't really be done. DVD is a compressed format that doesn't lend itself to further editing. You can possibly use Handbrake or similar tools to convert the DVD to a format that can be re-imported into iMovie. But you will lose picture quality, and there's no way to get back the transitions, subtitles, etc in any editiable form.
