Unable to drag to manually sort reminders list in iCal

Hi and thanks in advance for your help.
I run Mac OS X 10.7.5.
I find myself unable to manually sort reminders in iCal by dragging them up or down. If I click on the text of the reminder or the checkbox, I am able to drag it anywhere but I can't "release it". If I release my click, it goes back to it's original position and doesn't bump the other reminder down the list. I hope I am making sense.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks!

Any help?
Thanks!

  • Cannot rename Reminders List in iCal for Exchange Task List

I figured out that Exchange Tasks show up in OS X Lion as a Reminder List in iCal.  When I create a new Reminders List in iCal using File > New Reminder List > Exchange, it creates a new list with the name Untitled in the Reminders pane of iCal.  I can then rename the new (Untitled) list that I created by selecting the corresponding Reminders List from the Reminders drop-down and double-clicking over the Untitled name to rename it.  It seems that iCal successfully renames the Reminder List, but once it syncronizes with the Exchange Server, the Reminder List that I just renamed changes back to Untitled. Has anyone else experienced this issue and/or found a solution?  I don't always have the ability to log into Windows and would like to have the functionality to manage my Reminders Lists from my Mac.

    This worked for me:
The Problem: I also had the problem where I couldn't create a Reminder List having the same title as a Calendar List.  At one point I think I had the title of "Work" as both a Reminder and Calendar List, then when I deleted it from the Reminder List, it wouldn't allow me to create it again, and would go to Untitled.
The Solution (try at your own risk!):
    (1) Backup the Calendar that has the same name.  Select the Calendar by clicking the Calendar button in the top left and click on the calendar.  Go File menu -> Export -> Export... .   It should show your calendar name with ".ics" at the end, save this somewhere.
    (2) Delete the Calendar: Click the Calendar button in the top left and right-click on the calendar, choose delete.
    (3) Create the new Reminder list with the name that you want.  It should now allow you to.
    (4) Import the calendar you backed up in step 1.  Go File menu -> Import -> Import... and choose the .ics file you backed up. I've done this last step in the past but not this time around since I actually didn't care for the calendar to come back, so I don't remember the exact process after here.  I think it either gives you an opportunity to merge the events of the ics file into an existing calendar, or you can create a new calendar for the importing events.  If it doesn't give you this second choice, then first create a calendar with the name you want, select it, and start the import process over again.
    Hope this helps!

  • Manually sorting Reminders in iCal does not work

On my Mac, within iCal, I can not sort Reminders manually.  I've deleted iCal Prefs and started over, but still cannot sort manually.  Any ideas? Thanks!

The newest Version 5.0.1 (1547.4) of iCal, for Mac OSX Lion (Version 10.7.2), has the Sort Manually option for Reminders. As stated in the preceding reply, however, this option is not available in the iCloud Calendar. Therein lies the problem, apparently.
Yesterday, I was on the phone with Apple Support for an nearly two hours, trying to get to the bottom of this issue. Not knowing the answer, the first person I talked to referred me to someone in the iApps department. The person in the iApps department could not resolve the problem either. So, I was referred to a senior technician in that department. After a lengthy diagnosis, this person confirmed that this is a system-wide problem in which the function is missing. The case was forwarded to the engineers, and I will be notified when they have a response.
Once, I get the response, I will update this discussion thread.

  • How do I manually sort reminders in iCal after upgrade to 10.7.2

I used to use the iCal "To do" list to have an ordered list of things I needed to do. I would choose to sort manually (by right clicking in the to do area) and then I could drag the items into the order I wanted to do them.
After upgrading to OS 10.7.2, "To do"s has become reminders and although the option to sort manually is still there. It doesn't work. The syncing with my iphone would be great, but without the ability to order a big list it's pretty much useless to me.
Anyone know how to get this back?

  • Saving a Custom (Manual) Sort

I searched and searched through Bridge and found NO way to save a custom sort (manual) with a name (or a collection if you prefer). I created a manual custom sort in a folder and ran a PS action to reduce the size of each photo and put them into a new folder. When I opened the new folder the sort was alpha, not like the old folder. I now have to manually sort over 300 photos in new folder.
Is there a way to do this and if not, can a script be written for it. I create slide shows and no of hundreds of examples of how I would use this. It is really labor intensive to put the photos in a special order and then have no way to save it for future use.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. If I have to pay someone to do this, I will. thanks.

I am using Bridge (Version 1.0.4) and CS2 on WinXP, SP2. I am extremely disappointment in a limitation in Bridge that seems to be related to JamesAGrover's challenge to save a manual sort that he has created in a collection.
A review of topics related to manual sorting in these Adobe forums indicate that there is a general limitation to sorting a collection. This limitation seems to exist in any of the Adobe products for Mac or PC that offer the ability to view "collections" of images, for example, Lightroom and Bridge.
A "collection" seems to be a set of file names that are handled independently of the real files themselves. The magic resides in the user's experience of handling the "collection" of filenames as if they were the actual files themselves.
Of course, there is no "magic"; the collection is working with some kind of pointer to the actual files, where ever they may truly reside.
There are many powerful reasons for offering functionality of this kind. The one that primarily interests me is that by working with pointers to the same file from different collections, I can create different subsets of images and unique sort orders without copying the original files. I avoid filling my harddrive with copies, but I can burn thousands of CDs and DVDs each with different selections and sorts.
But unfortunately, inside a "collection", I am unable to execute a manual sort at all. The problem exists if my collection includes files from a single directory or from several different directories (folders). Since this seems to contradict the basic promise of a "collection" of filenames, I keep thinking that I misunderstand the user's interface.
I have set the "View - Sort" menu with every permutation of checks and unchecks for "Ascending Order" and "Manually" with no luck.
I have discovered a workaround to my problem: I have been able to manually sort, and save, a direct view of a real file system directory from the Bridge interface. But that has forced me to create copies of my images in one unique new directory for every selection and sort that I need.
To tie this back to the first post in this topic, I must observe that for me, after creating and manually sorting a collection, I will want to save the collection with its unique and idiosyncratic, manual sort. I don't want to copy the original files umpteen times! It seems that I will encounter the problem described by JamesAGrover.
I wonder if any forum member, or any one at Adobe, has a comment. Specifically I wonder about two things:
    1) Am I misunderstanding the user's interface? Is there a setting that I have not discovered?
    2) Is there a basic limitation with "collections" that has been removed in CS3?

  • Unable to drag and drop images with manual sort in CS2 bridge

I've had CS2 for several years now but for some reason, just never really needed to do a manual sort. Now that I DO need to, it doesn't seem to be working. I have the view set for manual and no matter what kind of working space I use, the program does not allow me to drag and drop the thumbnails into different positions. All I get is that circle with a diagonal line through it, showing me that what I'm trying isn't going to work.
    Any ideas?
    Windows XP

    Bridge version 1.0.4.6 (104504)

    DUUUUUUUDE! IT'S WORKING NOW!!!!
When you originally asked, "What happens if you click on an image and move it to another folder?", I didn't really understand what you were talking about because I almost never have my workspace set up in a way that the folders are showing. I always hide them. So I didn't really understand what you were saying. Just a few minutes ago, I realized that that is what you were asking so I opened up the folder area and tried dragging thumbs into different folders and saw that it does work.
So then, because of you mentioning that blue line and me know that I did see the blue line on occasion. I went back over into the thumbnails to find out if I always got the blue line or if it was a hit or miss thing. I couldn't believe my eyes when all of the sudden I saw that I no longer was getting that circle with the line through it, and low and behold, the thumbnail dropped right into position like it is supposed to!!!!
The thing is, I don't know what I've learned from this. I thought, "well, what is different?" The only thing that I can think of is that I now have the folders showing in my workspace so I wondered if that was the secret but I just now hid the folders again like I usually do and the drag and drop into position is STILL WORKING!!!
All I can figure is that somehow, dragging and dropping a thumbnail into a folder like that for the first time, triggered something so that I can now drag and drop among the thumbnail positions? Not sure. All I know is that for some reason, IT'S WORKING NOW!
Now, for the second important part, I wonder if I drag and drop everything into the order that I want and then select all of the files and drag them into a new folder, will they stay in that order? I need to go experiment with that.
If you hadn't kept at it and in turn had me keep trying stuff, it would have never happened because I had pretty much given up.
    Thanks Curt!
    You da man!!!

  • Ical reminders list won't sort on iphone

ICal Reminders won't sort on the actual device it was intended for - the Iphone
I just talked to Apple Express service over this problem.  I went to the trouble of transferring my to-do list onto icloud Reminders - where each item asked for a priority ranking and where you are then given options for how to sort  all the Reminders you entered - so that it can actually be useable as any Calendar/time management system would be.   I chose "by priority" of course, but you can also choose alphabetically, etc.  It must be said, at least to Apple, apparently, that the point of doing all this is so that the Reminders are available on your actual device - my iphone.  The Reminders all synced immediately to the Iphone.  However, the Reminders list is an unsorted jumble on my iphone.  Even when I tap out a Reminder on my iphone itself and choose a priority, the item remains at the bottom of the list as the last thing I typed in.  Apple Express Support "explains" that the priority ranking and the sorting choices are "not supported" on the device you want to use them on - the iphone.   They offered me "an article" that explains this in detail.   In other words, engaging with the Reminder function and choosing priorities and choosing sort orders is all just a cruel joke wasting your time.  I would have been better off just printing off my Reminders list on paper and circling the high priority items in red ink.  Oh - but you can't print it out either.
Unbelieveable.  Apple's ICal Reminder function actually and actively leads you to engage with completing details and choices that don't even function, or in other words - aren't "supported" on the Apple device they are stated to be designed for.  Is there a device on which this function is actually supported?  "Not at this time"
The only way to have your to-do list sorted on the iphone is to assign a calendar date for each one of them and then they only appear on that specific date.  You would not be able to view your whole list in anything other than the order you happened to enter the items.  No calendar/time management system I know of makes you put a date on every item in a  task list - some tasks have a due date, but most don't.  And every calendar/time management system allows you to sort your list, or view your list in a sorted order.   And print it out also.

    Hello Christiansted,
    Welcome to the Discussions Boards.
In addition to shuffle, you probably have repeat enabled. When you tap the screen or cover art while playing a song, the scrubber bar has the Shuffle button at the right end and the Repeat button at the left end.
If the circular arrows are blue, it will repeat the album or playlist.
If the circular arrows have a small number 1 on them, it will only repeat one song
If they are white, Repeat is off.
The User's Guide explains this on page 63:

  • Is it possible to sort reminders in the list view?

The reminders, when entered with my iPhone, show up ordered by when I entered them. Is there a way to sort them by the due date? Is this something that will be added later on?

  • HT202297 I can't drag my ical events over to the reminders list.

I can't drag my ical events over to the reminders list (that's not there anymore) like I used to be able to do. Why?

What version of iphoto? If it's iPhoto 11:
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?
    Iphoto 09 or earlier
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). A Finder Window +should+ open with the file selected. Does it?

  • How to sort Reminders (in List mode)?

How do I sort Reminders (in List mode) in chronological sequence according to due date?
It works automatically in iCloud via web browser, but apparently not in the iPhone Reminders app. Please help. Thank you!

Apparently, Apple thinks you don't need to sort them. They will thus appear in the order you create them. This is also bugging me though, along with all of the other problems with this app. (not possible to set due date on iPhone)

  • Unable to drag any music into my phone play lists

I have just sync'd my phone and all the music in my play lists have been erased. I can still see them as purchases but I'm unable to drag any of them back into play lists to recreate them. I get the circle with a line through it when I attempt to. Any ideas its driving me potty.. the only things that have changed are updating the itunes software as promted. I have used a PC elsewhere since but have made sure that its authourised etc and all seems fine. Any help greatly appreciated??

Did you try clicking on the check mark (to remove the check mark) and then dragging the CD content to your Shuffle? I kept having problems dragging the CD to the Shuffle. Then I Unchecked a track and dragged over. Voila!
If you click on all the check marks on the CD, then highlight the first track, then while holding "shift" click on the last track - and drag it over to the Shuffle - you won't have to go back and forth dragging tracts to the Shuffle.
Now, I realize that I may have been the last person in the world to figure this out - but I was so excited when I did, and it makes life so e-z!

In IPhoto (Events), my "manually sort" is grayed out. I am unable to rearrange my photos. Any suggestions??

    Hello Terence,
Okay I will try reformating the camera's card. However all is well when I export photos to my iMac at home or onto my iPad.
If your suggestion does not work should I try reinstalling iPhoto from the iLife disk? If so, how do I go about doing that or is there a website somewhere explaining this?

  • Reminders lists get scrambled on iPad

When I add a new list on my iPad3 running iOS7 my lists instantly change sort order on the iPad and it throws all of my iCloud lists out of order as well. The problem does not occur if I add the list from iCloud or on my iPhone. But whenever I add a new list on the iPad it scrambles the order of my Reminders lists and I have to manually put them back in the sort order I want. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I've now upgraded to an iPad Air 2 and I am experiencing the same issue. This seems to be something fundamental with the OS. After my original post I contacted Apple Support and they acknowledged the issue. They said they needed to get back to me and nrver followed up. I will contact them again With this new info on the latest iPad.

  • IPhoto '11 -- manual sort of event photos is not available

    Hi,
When viewing an Event, for some reason, I am unable to drag and drop to sort the photos. View > Sort Photos shows Manually and Reset Manual Sort are grayed out.
I am able to do a manual sort of the Events themselves in the Events window, but when I open an Event and view the photos in that Event, I can't reorder them. I am reading the Help file, and I can't see why this isn't working.
Doing a manual sort in an Album works by dragging and dropping.
    Thanks for any help.
    John

That's correct. The manual sort applies only to the Events themselves, not their photos. Within an Event photos can be sorted by Date, Keyword, Title or Rating. Not manually. Send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
If you want to sort the contents of an Event manually drag the Event into the Album section of the left hand pane to create an Album of that event. Then you can use a manual sort.
