Unable to edit header regions of template

I have just recently taken over the whole editing etc, publishiing , admin of some  websties.  i have purchased contribute CS5. I was previously using Contrbute 4, which allowed me to edit the whole of the pages'header, body etc..'  however, whereas the consultant adminsitrator allowed me to edit the header regions, I now do not seem to be able to do this in CS5.  Is it because the  administrator has done something to stop me or am I missing some vital bit of info.  I can edit the content.  The old administrator is acting as if I never could do this and says I need to use Dreamweaver, which I dont have and didnt need it before, I have open the index page in dreamweaver and I still find that I am unable to edit the header and it appears to be try to access an included file,  it is trying to access Templates/base.dwt trouble is this does not exist among the files, any idea's why this might be so or is there some trick to editing the headers now that I am missing, cheers in addvance

Hi Dustin,
You can edit the existing template in the Dreamweaver as for you requirement, by creating connection to that site in Dreamweaver.
While saving the template, Dreamweaver will prompt you, asking for updating the pages using this template. You can update all the pages using that template. So then changes you did in the template will be reflected in those pages.
For example, if you place the Header part in Editable region and save the changes and update in all the pages, then when you edit those pages, the header part will be editable.
Hope this helps you.

  • Edit optional region in template

I need to edit an optional region in a template so that by
default the value is "false" for the given region.
    So to do this I:
    - select the region
    - in the 'Properties' window CLICK 'edit'
    - select the 'basic' tab
    - UNCHECK the 'show by defailt' box
    - CLICK 'OK'
Unfortunately this does nothing. The template does not seem
to have been altered at all. If I go back in to edit the same
region the box, which I DEFINITELY unchecked, is CHECKED again.
Anyone able to offer some insight, please?
    Ideas and thoughts welcome.

  • Cannot edit header on CV template

I'm having difficulty editing the header on my my CV Template.
I originally used the San Fran style template but arranged moved the address section towards the top of the document, where it has now become the header.
Unfortunately, when I go to make changes on my address, tel, etc. I can only put the cursor on the left-side of the header but all my information is aligned on the right, which I cannot access.
Please tell me how I may unlock the header and make changes. I feel like I've tried everything.
    Thanks!

How would you be able to edit the header in a CV made from the San Francisco template ?
The header feature is disabled in this template.
What you moved is not a header, which is a specific structure, it's a text block which you put at top.
In a text block, the text obey to the rules which are in use in other locations.
In this template, it's defined as aligned to the left and it obey to the settings.
To move it, you may select lines 2 & 3 and set them to align to the right or, as I did, you may insert a TAB character at the beginning of the lines.
If you don't know the behavior of a tool, it would be useful to read *_Pages User Guide_*.

  • Editing uneditable regions on template using CS4

I am updating an existing website using CS4.(I'm new at this) I went into the template made changes & saved it. None of the changes show up on the web pages. The update dialog box did not show up when I saved the changes.  When I went into the Asset file under templates there were none showing up.  But the template file is under the local files.  Obviously I'm missing something.  Please help.

I'll save the original poster some trouble.
Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes not propagating from Template to child -
    1.  Rename the Templates folder
    2.  Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other than root level
    3.  Move a template out of the Templates folder.
    4.  Make changes to an editable region of the Template (which will not propagate)
    5.  Assume that Template changes will be effected by just uploading the changed Template file to the server without also uploading the changed local files
    6.  Corrupt the site cache so that the link between Template and child page is broken
    7.  Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the Template, adding page specific content, and resaving the Template with an *.html extension rather thanits *.dwt extension. (you can tell if this is the case by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything like <!-- TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done).  If you *have done this*, then recreate the child pages (in DW) using FILE | New > Page from Template, select the Template and click CREATE.
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing them.  Have you done any of those?

  • Making head editable region in template

What seems to be a new feature in DW 8.0.2 practically forces
you to let "it" add a <noscript> routine so that Flash Text
elements will be visible in IE6. In order for this automatic
insertion to be done, apparently you must have the following line
of code within the <head></head> region:
    <script src="../../Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js"
    type="text/javascript"></script>
So I manually inserted the line into my template (because I
couldn't figure out how to make the <head> region editable),
then updated all my pages associated with the template. But somehow
all those pages ended up with an absolute instead of a relative
    address, thus:
    <script src="file:///C|/Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js"
    type="text/javascript"></script>
Now, my template is correct and the pages are incorrect, and
I can't get the template to update the pages with the correct line
of code (and I can't manually changes the code in the
pages--because the region isn't editable). Consequently, the Flash
Text objects are visible ONLY in IE6, and not in Firefox and
    Netscape.
    Anyone? ....Anyone?

  • Can't Delete Non-Editable Region in Template?

Well, I can in existing templates but if I create a new one from an existing page using "Save as Template", when I try to delete a non-editable region in the template, DW won't let me.  I don't know why.  Aaaargh!
It's my understanding I should be able to edit anything in a template.  I've tried existing DW and restarting.  I've tried using other pages as a basis for the template.  Every template I create won't let me delete non-editable regions.  I'm highlighting the non-editable region and pressing the delete key.  I can't delete.

    burro_mail wrote:
Not sure DW is doing what you describe...
But I am certain you could remove the region in code view.
Even if you are a WYSIWYG-er and not a big code-head, it should be pretty easy to remove the region markers and everything between them...
Trust me, it is.  I'm wondering if the problem is associated with the fact that the source page that I saved as a template was based on a template?  I just noticed that this new template refers to another template.  I'm thinking that means the other template is controlling what I'm trying to do in the current template.
That's it.  I just tried saving a template under a different name (still retaining the correct template file extension) but did not do the save as template.  Now I can completely edit that template.  So you if you save a page that is controled by a template, as a template, that new template is controlled by the previous template.
    I've got a headache now.

  • How to delete editable regions and template?

    Hi everybody,
I posted this question earlier in the web discussions area, being unaware of a forum specific to Dreamweaver. Sorry for posting in two different places.
For the past week, I have been  learning Dreamweaver CS4 from an online tutorial. I got to the place  where I generated a template (index.dwt) from the main page (index.html)  and created some editable regions on it. At that point, I realized   that I had done all the steps by rote and did not actually absorb what I  was doing. I wanted to delete the template in order to repeat the steps and gain a better understanding of the process. When I tried to delete the  editable regions (modify-templates-remove editable regions), I was  unable to do so because "remove editable regions" was greyed out. Nor  was I able to delete the html code. I tried to  delete the template itself, but when I did that, the index.html page  retained those editable regions! Can anyone tell me if there is a way to  get back to the place I was in before creating the template?
    Thank you  for any assistance.

All you need to do is detach the index.html file from the template.  Then you can delete the template and start all over.
Go to the Modify menu --> Templates --> Detach from Template

  • Making DW CS4 Nested Template Head Region Update to Pages

    Using DW CS4...
So I made a template, called main_template, and obviously it has an editable region named head. Now from main_template I made the nested template locations_template. Now I have code that I put in the head region of locations_template. This code does not propagate out to pages created from locations_template. I can't place an editable region within the head section in the nested template. How do I solve this problem?

    > 1st: "Error accessing file "...here appears the file

This usually means you have other files open that may belong
    to templates
not in the current site. Make sure that you have other such
    files closed
and you won't get this error.

This usually means you have an error in the template file -
    we would need to
see its code to diagnose further.
    > When I check the code at line 5 or 54 I find nothing
    relevant to "Nested

It could be referring to code errors like a missing
    </head>, or <body> tag,
    too.

  • In my template, the code is grayed out and I am unable to edit it. How do I unlock the code?

I have a website based on a template. (Dreamweaver CS6). Just recently, the "code view" in the template is grayed out, and I am unable to edit it. I can edit the template in design view. I would appreciate suggestions of how the code got grayed out- or locked up. Thanks in advance.

Thanks everybody- I found a thread on a forum which solved my problem. In Dreamweaver: Commands → Clean Up HTML → (make sure non-Dreamweaver Comments" is checked. This clean up made the template then editable.
    Thanks everyone.

  • How can we add multiple editable region in template

    Hi,
My issue is when I am going to create a new template I want to add multiple editable region in template and I want to use those editable region per page wise so that in page editor I will add different text for each page for those editable region.
I can use incontxt editor to change those area for different pages although is it possible to use online editor to add different text for different pages.
I also have a plan to solve the issue ... that is also not working.
Plan is .. if we can use tag (not the default one in template), want to use different tag like {tag_headding},{tag_sidebarcontent} in template so that we can use those tag in template and fill the field in the page online editor, so when differnt page we will create we will fill those field for those tag and that will show in the front view of the site.
Please help me. I am really stuck on this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Projjwal

    Hi Projjwal,
Yes, if you look at many of the commercial BC templates available the way they are getting around it is with Content Holders and multiple templates.
Now I know you will say that multiple templates is high maintenance ..... not if you use Content holders for both recurring content and unique content.
Think of Conent Holders as 'Includes' ... I have been doing it this way with templates that I build from scratch as well. Easier than you think.
And that way the client can change content such as footer information or whatever that appears on all pages without editing the template itself.
Only drawback is that if you are using Design View in Dreamweaver the content holders don't render. But other than that Content Holders are awesome.

  • Editable/Uneditable Region (Template)

    Hi,
I am using dreamweaver to design my personal website. I need some help please.
I created a template and designed some pages based on it. I have two editable regions in the template. I want to change one of them to uneditable.
Could you please tell me how to do it?
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi,
here is an ADOBE tuorial, where you will find some hints how to "Insert a non-editable optional region" or "Insert an editable optional region":

And "make an editable tag attribute uneditable":

  • Reformatting editable region on template.

I have several pages created off a template that has an editable region.  I want to reformat the editable region in the template, such as adding a new DIV, creating borders on it, and adding an image placeholder.
When I do this, the pages created from the template don't change also.
If I remove the editable region from the template, put in the format changes, then put the editable region back in, then all the pages I had created earlier lose their content.
Is there a way to do these format changes, make them flow through to the dependent pages and not lose the content on those pages?
    Thanks,
    Aron

    Aron,
To "reformat" an editable area on a template, create the div and structure OUTSIDE the editable area. That is, "wrap" the editable area in a div and apply style via CSS. The image placeholder is something you can place in the template, but it will not update on pages that have already been created from the template. The new div will be applied on all pages, because it will not be in the editable region.

Check if the URL of the template is right. You can go to the site setting->site content type->click the content type you want to edit->advanced setting->edit the template->open the template, and click file->to check if the URL under the template is right.
As a workaround, when you edit the template you can save the template in the local computer, and you can upload the template you have saved in the advanced setting for the content type.
The article below is about how to create Document Templates for Document Libraries in SharePoint 2010, it also can work in SharePoint 2013.

  • Unable to edit html file

    Hi,
I downloaded an html file from our server to edit the logo. However, I am unable to edit the logo part. It's like commented out. And once I opened the file on Dreamweaver CS5, I am getting this pop-up message:
"This page contains some SWF objects that may not work properly in the most recent versions of Internet Explorer. Dreamweaver cannot convert them to the new SWF markups. Please delete each of them and insert again."
I can't edit the html file and change the logo. Please help.
    Thank you and God bless!
    Dannie

    Dannie,
Are you familiar with dreamweaver templates and editable regions? If the logo is in the template, then you need to modify the template file. The changes you make to the template will automatically be propogated to all of the files which use the template.  If your html file uses a template, the html code will look like its commented out.
Also, you should not have to download the html fiile from your server because you should always keep a copy of all the html files on your computer.
I don't know about the SWF error.
    Good luck.

  • How do I create an editable style in a template

A site I am currently coding will need a DWT template for use
with Contribute to prevent the site owner from editing things
he/she shouldn't. All of the pages will essentially use a single
    template,
except I need to change a single style on every page. I need
just the contents of a single class="" to be editable. Does anyone
know a clever way to do this? You can't set an editable region
within the quotes - I've already tried that.

    1. You can make the tag bearing the class assignment have an
    editable class
attribute (read DW's F1 Help about editable attributes), or
    2. You could make the tag and its minimal legal context be in
    an editable
    region, or
    3. You could make the page have a small embedded stylesheet
    in the editable
region that is in the head of every template child page that
    would let you
specify the different styles for a given class rule.
