Unable to edit Input Text Field

Question

The Scenario is to update a value from pageFlowScope variable.
Hence in a jsff, I created the code as below
<af:inputText value="#{pageFlowScope.patientrecord.FirstName}" readOnly="false"
label="#{bindings.FirstName.hints.label}"
binding="#{commonBean.patientFirstName}"
required="#{bindings.FirstName.hints.mandatory}"
columns="#{bindings.FirstName.hints.displayWidth}"
maximumLength="#{bindings.FirstName.hints.precision}"
shortDesc="#{bindings.FirstName.hints.tooltip}" id="it1">
</af:inputText>
In the UI, I'm able to get the value of "FirstName" successfully, but this InputText field is showing in ReadOnly format. I even tried by setting the attribute readOnly="false".
when I don't set any value to this field, I'm able to enter input.
Please point out the root-cause-of-error.

Well, I'm populating pageFlowScope variable with a row data as below.
<af:column sortProperty="PatientId" sortable="false"
headerText="#{bindings.PatientSearchEntity.hints.PatientId.label}"
id="c13">
<af:commandLink shortDesc="#{bindings.PatientSearchEntity.hints.PatientId.tooltip}"
id="it21" text="#{row.bindings.PatientId.inputValue}"
action="update">
<af:setPropertyListener from="#{row}"
to="#{pageFlowScope.patientrecord}"
type="action"/>
</af:column>
And I think patient record is editable, by default.
p.s.: I never heard of a "ferret"
