Unable to edit keyboard shortcuts

Hi all.
Using my iMac at home and wanted to duplicate a shortcut I have at work. I use Microsoft Natural keyboards both places and I tied the Print Screen button to the screenshot command that saves the image to a file on the desktop at work. Well, now at home and I can't edit any of the keyboard shortcuts. I double click on them and nothing happens. I can create new application specific ones, but editing any existing ones is just working.
Anyone have any ideas as to why I would be unable to edit any of my shortcuts?

You can't, unfortunately.

  • CS6: Edit - Keyboard Shortcuts javascript error

Does anyone know how to fix this:
In CS6, when I right-click a new snippet and select Edit Keyboard Shortcuts, I just get a javascript error, the same error I get if I try to create a keyboard shortcut directly from the menu at the top of the screen, Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts.
The error is "At line 321 of <path>\Keyboard Shortcuts.js getMenuTree: Argument number 1 is invalid."
After that, where the list of standard shortcuts should appear, the list is blank. All the other built-in shortcuts also are blank, and trying to duplicate the standard set  just creates a blank set and doesn't let me add anything. Deleting Dreamweaver's cache file, the blahblah.dat thing, doesn't fix it.

Troubleshoot JavaScript errors.  Start with steps 10 & 12.

  • Edit keyboard shortcuts

Can you add the same functionality to edit keyboard shortcuts (currently in photoshop)?
    Thanks

And also the ability to use slide show's very handy shortcuts in Bridge and ACR.

  • Unable to enter keyboard shortcut preferences

OK, I've received my new aluminum keyboard today. I connected it to my "old" (November 2006) iMac 20" 2.16 GHz and installed the Keyboard Software Update 1.1. I'm encountering the issue with non-working F3 and F4 keys, like (almost) everyone else, but that's not the problem bothering me right now (I'll just wait for an update).
What's new is that I'm unable to enter the "Preferences -> Keyboard and mouse -> Keyboard shortcuts" pane. If I click on it, it just "hangs", with the "Keyboard shortcuts" highlighted, but still showing the contents of the previously selected tab.
I can then quit Preferences normally (it doesn't fully crash). If I re-enter, the same thing happens.
I have already cleared all caches, repaired preferences, re-installed the Keyboard Software Update, created a new user account, deleted com.apple.HIToolbox.plist (both the user's and the system's), even zapped the PRAM - nothing helps.
Other software I have installed which might interfere are Butler and Witch - disabling them didn't help.
Any ideas of what else could be causing this?
    Thanks for your help

I also have an error message in console.log every time I try to open that tab:
    2007-08-20 19:50:56.941 System Preferences(521) * -(NSCFString count): selector not recognized (self = 0x1641b510)
There's more - this only happens if I'm using the Italian localized version of Preferences. If I use the English version it works. It definitely looks like a bug.
Can anyone confirm it's happening on their system as well if switching to Italian?
If it's really a bug, what's the best way to file it with Apple?

  • Overwrite edit keyboard shortcut

whenever i attempt to use the F10 keyboard shortcut to do an overwrite edit all that happens is my sound is muted since F10 also happens to be the mute key. i looked in system preferences to see if there was a way to disable the mute function but couldn't find anything in the keyboard shortcut settings. so my question is how do i use F10 as a keyboard shortcut in final cut express.

I had the same problem (I have the new aluminum keyboard). After reading Tom's post, I went into System Preferences and checked the box to use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys.
However, as a result, F10 by itself functions to darken the desktop behind FCE's windows, and to cause the various FCE windows to separate and slightly recede. I then discovered that the combination of Command-F10 is the Overwrite Edit function.

  • Would like to know how to edit keyboard shortcuts so I can skip through 5 consecitive tabs whilst pressing enter?

I play a browser game called tribal wars, to play this game well I need to be able to launch attacks in rapid succession by opening multiple tabs and selecting my troops in each tab that I want to send. I need to be able to cycle through five tabs whilst pressing enter is there a way of assigning a keyboard short cut so I could do it in 150 milli seconds?

You can also use "Ctrl+Page Down" to go to the next tab or "Ctrl+1" to "Ctrl+8" to go to the first 8 tabs (Ctrl+( takes you to the last tab).

  • Unable to change keyboard shortcuts

It drives me insane that Adobe doesn't use the standard Mac keyboard shortcuts in their applications for Mac.  I finally got annoyed enough that I went to fix them in Dreamweaver.  I found the place to set shortcuts, but when I try to replace the End key (for end of line) with Cmd+Right nothing happens.  If I hit a letter, for example, that key appears, but it doesn't seem to recognize Cmd+Right arrow as a valid sequence.  Before trying to add that I removed the shortcut for Cmd+Right that was associated with 'Word Right'.

    Hi Guys,
We are aware of this issue and are fixing this issue for the next update where the keyboard shortcuts would be as
    Move word left - CTRL+LEFT
    Move word right - CTRL+RIGHT
Move to start of current line - ALT+LEFT
Move to end of current line - ALT+RIGHT
I would appereciate it if Please log an enhancement request at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform for not being able to set keyboard shortcuts unless it includes a alpahbetical character

  • Editing keyboard shortcuts?

Is there a way to modify the keyboard shortcuts in Aperture? I tried doing it via the Keyboard & Mouse control panel but the change doesn't have any affect in Aperture. I want to use the zero key on the numeric keypad to mark a reject. It's close to the arrow keys and is more convenient when I'm going through a shoot quickly and marking the rejects.
    Regards,
    fh

By pure dumb luck, I found that one can modify the keystrokes much like one uses the Apple Toolbar. If one click-drags a colored command button off of the "Key Detail" frame it will "puff" disappear (be deleted). If one click-drags a colored command button to another location, it will be duplicate assigned to that key combination. Also, if one click-drags a command description off the "Command List" frame to a slot on the "Key Detail" frame, that command will be assigned to that key combination (or replace what was there to begin with.) Thus one can delete, modify and customize the Keystroke commands to any configuation one wants! I have found no detailed instructions or guides for this process and discovered it by experimentation (aren't Mac's wonderfully forgiving.) I hope this explaination will help others customize.
Now if I could just discover how to print-out the customized list of the commands and key combinations, I be a real happy camper!

  • [Keyboard Shortcuts] Editing the indk.-file

    Hi.
I'm working in a newspaper and we have upgraded our advertisement software. With this software a plugin is installed to InDesign to save and export.
On the last version you had the possibility to assign a keyboard shortcut in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts to the feature AdPoint > Save and Export PDF.
In the new version the menu is stil present and being used to "Save and Export" every advert produced. However, the menu does not appear in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.
Ive been trying to edit the .indk-file, but with no luck.
I copied the .indk-file from when the last version that was used. It didnt work, but this is the part in the .indk-file:
    <shortcut>
         <action-id value="0xe9600 + 5" name="KBSCE Other:0xe9600kAPP_ExportPDF_MenuItemKey"></action-id>
         <context>DefaultContext</context>
         <string>Shift+Ctrl+E</string>
    </shortcut>
Anyone know how to make this work?
    Version: InDesign CS5
    OS: Windows 7

The best way to add a +1 would be for everyone to file a feature request. Those are officially tracked by Adobe (unlike this user-to-user forum) and the more people that ask for something, the more likely it is to be implemented.

  • I can no longer do keyboard shortcuts since latest update.

I am running Firefox 34.0.5 on a Windows 7 computer. Firefox updated the other day and I can no longer use my Edit keyboard shortcuts. (ie CTRL V etc) I read an article telling how to correct this with a Mac computer, how do you do it with a Windows computer?

Firefox 35 was released yesterday. Please use Help > About Firefox and run a Check for Updates to get the latest version. Then see if that issue is resolved.

  • How do i use the "Alt+Ctrl+;" keyboard shortcut to Lock and Unlock Guides in Adobe Illustrator?

    Hello,
I've been trying to lock my guides in Illustrator CS5 with the default keyboard shortcut "Alt+Ctrl+;", but with no result.
When i edit this shortcut via the 'Edit/Keyboard Shortcuts...' menu, and type in the same keystroke combination for that command - so again "Alt+Ctrl+;" for "Lock Guides' - the shortcut changes from "Alt+Ctrl+;" into "Alt+Ctrl+."
This new "Alt+Ctrl+." shortcut is usable. Now the same 3 different keystrokes tabbed at the same time do lock and unlock the guides, but i'm left wondering why it is that i can't use the "Alt+Ctrl+;" combination.
There now also seems to be no way around changing the new combination into the old one again.
    I hope someone can help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Johan

Thanks Jacob. I can't seem to find a solution to my problem within the site you linked, but i'm still happy with it. Seems to be a great resource for answers.

  • How do I change the keyboard shortcut for Cycle through open documents in PS CC for Mac?

Sorry to bug the community with such a seemingly inconsequential task, but I am seriously tired of using the awkward default keyboard shortcut for cycling through open docs in PS.  I'd like to change it to what I am used in in Chrome, which is Cmd+Option+[left] or {right} arrow keys.  I noticed this is not a command listed in the in keyboard shortcuts, for whatever reason.  Where on Earth can I change this?
If it is not possible to do it by default, is there a plug-in or a change to the code that will allow this basic functionality?
    Thanks again guys and gals!

As far as I know, you can't. It's "hard wired" in.  Not even Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts is allowed  to change it.
However I did find this tip:
Anyway i never found tabs in Adobe application useful, instead i prefer the old school method: simply switch off tabs feature via illustrator/ preferences/ user interface/ open documents as tabs. Then in Mac preferences panel, under keyboard, just search for the “focus on next application window” field (under menu, keyboard and text) and assign a shortcut if the default option doesn't fit you. And there is now you can easily switch between open documents!.
The best part of this is that it can be used in all mac applications, not only Adobe ones. And remember, if you want this working on Indesign, Photoshop, etc be aware of first switch off the tab features so that the system could “see” multiple documents opened not only one single tabbed document.

  • Disable Keyboard Shortcut for Open Adobe Bridge

Is there a way to disable the keyboard shortcut which opens Adobe Bridge from Illustrator? Often when I'm working quickly I accidentally hit this (option command o) instead of (shift command o) to outline type. It halts everything to open Bridge, which I never use, and drives me crazy. Is there any way to disable this command?
Any help would be greatly approciated!!

Go to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts > Menu Commands > File and remove or modify the default shortcut for Bridge.

  • I hate it when they change all the keyboard shortcuts. Is there a fix for these?

I don't understand why Adobe thinks that consistency is a bad thing, but it seems that everytime they update they go jerking with my keyboard shortcuts. Last time it was Indesign, this time it Photoshop that has me complaining. Usually I can change things back to the way I like under Edit/ Keyboard Shortcuts... but this time they've really done it.
Probably the 2 sets of shortcuts that I use the most over the last 15 years of using Photoshop, thus have become a natural reflex, when using the program are Toggling between CMYK channels via cmd-1,2,3&4, (sorry using cmd 3,4,5&6 is just completely unnatural) and Fit to Window (cmd-0). I cannot find a menu selection anywhere that would allow me to change these back, and Fit to Window has been completely removed from the view menu altogether! WTF?
I guess I could get used to the new channel key commands if need be, but no Fit to Window? what is this world coming to?
Anyone know of a workaround to this problem.

Heh...found the ad-copy I wrote for AccessPad Pro:
You're a power-user. The applications you work with do your bidding like YoYo Ma's Cello, like Perleman's violin, like Bill Evans' piano.
You've customized the way your applications openall the Tools and Palettes show up right where you like them. You may even have a few custom workspace arrangements for different purposes. You switch between them with a mouse click, and you're ready to go.
You've made brilliant use of Actions, Macros, Scripts and other built-in time- and effort-saving functions.
You know hundreds of keyboard shortcuts, and have spent time reassigning the defaults to more deftly meet your needs. You've assigned F-key shortcuts to some of those functions that don't even have shortcuts.
You're a power-user, but you've run up against a couple things that put a brick wall in front of your ever-increasing efficiency.
Firstyour keyboard is designed for typing actual text. It's been that way since the dawn of the first mechanical typewriters. The way the keys are arranged are meant to make it easy for your fingers to find the keys. Even if you use the arguably better Dvorak arrangement for key assignments. Even if you have one of those split-and-angled "ergonomic keyboards, they're still designed to do one thing well: Let the user type text as efficiently as possible.
Your keyboardwhatever the specieswas never meant to be an efficient, ergonomic way to access the shortcuts you depend on. For your current keyboardnay, ANY keyboardto perform optimally as a shortcut access device, you'd do well to have a third hand, or a freakishly long set of fingers that could bend 360 degrees in any direction.
SecondYour keyboard only allows a finite number of shortcuts. If you find yourself wishing and begging for just one more F-key, so you wouldn't have to get rid of some of your old shortcuts just to add a newly discovered "must-have", you're out of luck. It's about impossible to find one that has any more than 16 F-keys. Even if you could find a keyboard with more user-assignable keys, there's still the matter of the first problem, that is: How to reach them easily and quickly?
Forget all of those hassles, starting now.
The AccessPad Pro, by Phosergistics, is a computer peripheral designed from the ground up to allow youthe kings and queens of all power usersto have access to a virtually unlimited number of shortcuts. It sits on your desk, opposite the hand you use for operating your mouse. You rest your hand on it, in a comfortable relaxed manner. Notice where your thumb naturally falls. Right there, under your thumb, you find that there are buttons that replicated the Command & Option keys found on your keyboard. They can be pressed and activated independently or in tandem.
Under the heel of your hand is a somewhat larger button. Press down slightly, and you'll enable the same behavior as the Shift key on your keyboard.
Using your thumb and the heel of your hand you can enable 6 combinations of modifiers.
Now, look at your fingers. Beneath where they naturally rest on the AccessPad Pro you'll see six gracefully curved rows of buttons, 4 in each row. These buttons are arranged ergonomically, so the slightest curl of your finger can find and press any of the 24 buttons.
Let's do some simple math: 6 combinations of modifier keys, multiplied by 24 easily reachable, user-assignable function buttons...The AccessPad Pro gives you comfortable access to a whopping 144 shortcut assignments, all without moving your hand.
But that's not all. 144 shortcuts isn't enough for you? No problem. You can have a virtually unlimited number of these 144 shortcut sets, user assignable to work system-wide, or on a per-application basis, and you can load any set, any time you want. And because these custom shortcut assignments are written to a preset file using the industry standard XML scripting language, you can save these sets as tiny text files which you can share and trade with users on either the Mac or Windows platform.
You're a power-user. Forget about trying to grow a 3rd hand. Forget about wishing you hand foot-long fingers.
Use your mouse for moving your cursor.
Use your keyboard for typing text.
Use AccessPad Pro to speed up everything else you do on your computer. Try it for a week and you'll wonder how you ever worked without it.

  • Keyboard shortcuts: 80% customizable. 20% not ??

Hi there. Does anyone of you know why edit >> keyboard shortcuts let's you customize a long list of shortcuts ... but not all ? I can't find ALT+[ and ALT+] for example.
Or is there a secret way of modifying the remaining 20% of shortcuts (for example by editing a settings file, etc.) ?

The point is not wether or not they are working, but why they are NOT in the list (edit>>keyboard shortcuts), and thus not customizable (probably).
Because Adobe thinks that Americanization has reached a level, where we all work with US keyboards, obviously. I guess it's the same reasons like proposing to use the circumflex key ( ^ ) in the German versions Premiere or Illustrator (and, to Adobe's eternal shame, they list this even in their help files!), when a chimp knows that can never work on a German system. So much for that. Well, whatever, at least Adobe is being consistent in being inconsistent about shortcuts.
