Unable to edit page source in CS3

For some reason I am unable to edit page source in an
external application in CS3. I can't figure out why I used to be
able to, and now i can't. please advise

If you want to open the source code in an editor of your choice you can change two hidden settings.
Type '''about:config''' into the location bar. Accept the warning message that pops up, this brings up a lot of settings. You then need to change 2 of the settings that appear, for details on the 2 settings see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/View_source.editor.external view_source.editor.external] and [http://kb.mozillazine.org/View_source.editor.path View_source.editor.path]
You can also change those 2 settings by using an add-on such as [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/394/ Dafizilla ViewSourceWith]

Blank page shown after clicking "Edit Page" in Contribute CS3

I set up a site in Dreamweaver CS3 and am trying to configure Contribute to enable users to edit the content. After setting up the site in Contribute, I browse to any page, click the "Edit Page" button and all I see is the background color of the web page and a large blinking cursor in the upper left corner of the screen; the content of the page is nowehere to be found. I have attached an image showing what I see after I click "Edit Page".
The site navigates and renders just fine inside of Contribute, but I am unable to Edit pages.
Is this an issue that someone has seen before? Is there perhaps something in the HTML that is preventing the page from being rendered correctly in Edit mode?

I discovered the problem with the site.
In the template there was an EditableRegion defined around the <body> opening tag:

<body id="research">

Once I replaced this with a TemplateParam for the id attribute of the body tag everything worked just fine.

Unable to edit pages

I am unable to edit pages that another administrator
currently has on her PC. How can I override this or how do I get
the other
administrator to take off the page I want to edit?

If you are seeing this warning "you cant edit this page now
because ..... editing on another computer. Click here to make this
page editable"
then just click on "here"
please let me know if this is not the issue. and if it isn't,
please provide the error/warning you are getting.

Unable to edit WebDynpro source code after import from NWDI Track

Hi !
I am facing an odd issue when trying to modify the source code in a web dynpro that is in a Track.
This is what happens:
I create the project from Inactive DCs
I double click in the component controller (for example) and try to enter a line of code
A pop ups appears saying that in order to modify the file I have to check it out and to create an activity
The window to create a new activity appears, and I create the new activity
I am informed that the file to be edited will be included in the activity
--- Until now everything is normal ---
A try again to type something inside the source code.. and NOTHING happens, is as if my keyboard was broken.
After trying 1000 things I found a workaround that is:
Open the DTR perspective in NWDS, go to inactive -- <project>.. gen_wdp , ( and in gen_wdp right click, edit --> subfolder tree).
After doing that I am able to edit the source code... this is very strange! I mean, I never had this problem before..
somebody has a hint ?

I am able to edit the code is one of the DCs in the same track and I am unable to do so in the other. The error that I see in a popup while trying to edit the code is :
The operation can only be performed if the following objects are writable:The project is not in the repository, but there are some read-only files

Unable to edit php files in CS3

Hi,
I have users that need to edit content in php files in Contribute CS3, just editing text and adding images etc. Every time they try to edit a page they just get a grey screen with the words 'headerMenu', which happens to be the page title of a file that is included using the php include command. They cannot edit anything on the page. I have checked the admin options and they are allowed to edit scripts etc..
Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Since you have the Acrobat Pro DC 30-day trial, please try opening that to edit your PDFs (rather than opening them in Reader, and clicking the Edit PDF button).
If you search your computer, you should have both an Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and and Adobe Acrobat Pro application. They can coexist, but it does make things a little confusing.
If you want to evaluate Acrobat Pro DC, it's best that you open it directly. That way, you can get the real "lay of the land" with Acrobat before making any purchase decisions.

Unable to edit page

This is in JSK... Have created a page (simple) - "Home" in Admin UI with a Page Definition.
When I try to view the page in Contributor UI (target is to view and then edit), WCS is throwing an exception - It looks like the issue is due to something wrong in metadata but not sure about exact reason.

Users unable to edit pages

Hi,
I have a particular department in my company who cannot edit
their pages as it say they are currently being edited by anyother
user. In the past when this has occured I have searched the web
server for .lck files and deleted them and this resolves the issue.
However, in this case, there are no .lck files so I have no
idea what to do.
Any ideas?

Definately there should be a .LCK file. Say your page is on
the url
http://servername/directory/page.htm,
in the same page browse to
http://servername/directory/page.htm.LCK.
You need to remove this or
just edit it and remove the contents of it and save it.
I guess, deleting the .LCK file still re-creates it on the
fly. So try
to edit the .LCK file and remove the contents of it and try.
Later you may want to Create a Copy of the Current page and
delete this
page which is being locked out.

Why can't I edit the source code?

Updating an existing site that was created in Front Page. Am using DW CS4. Must be missing something totally obvious, but when I have pages open in split view, I'm unable to edit the source code. Any thoughts? I can make changes to the CSS, but direct editing in the source code seems to be unavailable.

No. HTML is HTML no matter who writes it.
This page is definitely a template controlled page, but it is one that has been 'hacked' in the sense that someone has removed the link to the template page from the head of this document (there should be a link to the template page just below the <html> tag). For example, if you look at the code on the about.htm page, you will see this -

On Firefox, i wish to edit details in the 'Page Source' file (CSS) and save the changes. Please help...

I am viewing a crossword(HTML file) prepared by me, on FIREFOX. I wish to change the color of the blank squares (which are black now), to improve the appearance of CW. I have located the appropriate place on the "Page Source" file for effecting the change. ''But, I am not able to effect the change, as the file does not accept the editing.'' Please, advise

It is View > Page Source and not Edit > Source, so you can't make changes to the source in Firefox.<br />
You will have to do that via an external editor.<br />
You can also override CS style rules with the Stylish extension.

I am unable to edit information I have typed into a spacebar, this includes backspace, and when I highlight it, even after reloading the page

I recently upgraded to Firefox 4 on my 3 yr old Macbook, though I am unsure if this is in fact connected. Now I am often unable to edit information I have typed into a search bar or text box (such as this one) even after reloading that page or pressing first the back, then the forward buttons. Has anyone else run into this, and does anyone know what is going on?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Editing Web Page Source (3.6.1 Multiuser)

I'm looking to do some more detailed formatting on some web pages used for topic overviews (such as nested bullet points), however the WYSIWYG editing options are rather limited. Is it possible to edit the source prior to publishing?

Further investigation reveals that the problem appears to have to do with the way the html file is encoded on disk. I am working on pinning down exactly what, in the encoding, is causing the problem. When I have that documented, as well as another possible "undocumented feature" I found, I will forward all info to you. This is the kind of problem I like as I am a developer with over 30 years experience including a stint as QA lead for a development group at AT&T which won the MBNQA for, among other things, re-engineering the platform used by the long distance operators. Client loses ability to edit pages in CS3

Hi folks, although the permissions I had for client in CS3 were pretty broad, she is now only able to edit text   on SOME pages whereas she was able to edit text on all before. When I log in using CS5 I do not see any draft pages, but she said she cannot even create a draft for those pages. She can only edit one page now...
Any ideas what might be the problem here?     I am now using CS 5 but had NOT opened up the website for months until she emailed me today about the problem.

Okay, I reloaded the site, made sure it is compatible and transitional, sent a new key. Client is able to log in and edit   one page but not others they have created, I think, even though she has publisher permissions. She says she has no drafts on her system. I used the same key in CS3 and was able to edit all pages. We are stumped... She is one Windows and I'm on a Mac, so my guess there is something messed up in her Win preferences or whatever they're called, like plist on the mac...   or something else.
All pages are checked in and she has Enabled the connection.
can anyone give me a clue as to what to tell her to do to restore her ability to edit pages?

T&E-Unable to edit/print expense report - Page not found or is unavailable

Hello Gurus!!
We have some of the users reporting that they are unable to edit/print the expense report. When they try to do that they are getting the error message "page not found or is unavailable". We verified that the URL for the PCD page parameter is being maintained correctly in the Homepage Area framework.
Could anybody please suggest what else could be wrong?

Missing pemissions

In the "View"-- "Page Source" window: why can't I select a portion of a URL like I used to in previous versions? If I try, the source text behaves as an active hyperlink instead. This makes copying and editing HTML a pain!

In want to copy a portion of a URL from the "View" --> "Page Source" window and paste it in my favorite text editor. This used to be a simple action with my mouse (mark portion with left mouse button, dump copy into editor window with middle mouse button). In Firefox 3.6.9, it is not plain text in the "Page Source" window but active hyperlinks (cursor shape changes) and takes me to the website of that URL, which I don't want. How can I get the original behavior (plain text page source) back?

The code taht you have shown is not the template, it is a document that has been created from a template and renamed with a dwt extension.
If you load the document into DW then go to menu item Modify->Templates->Detach from Template and save the file, you will have your original template called index.dwt and located in the Templates subdirectory.
