Unable to enter into BIOS (T430s 2353)

Hello all,
I seem not to be able to enter into my laptop's BIOS anymore. I was able to do it few days after purchase, but no longer. I'm using T430s (2353) with latest BIOS. I see "Press <F1> ..." message, but when I try to press it, nothing happens. The only way I found to enter into BIOS now is to remove battery. This clears BIOS settings and then after first power up I am forced into BIOS to set date and time settings.
I did BIOS firmware update again just to be sure, but it did not chage a thing - I still can't enter BIOS,
Any ideas?
Thanks,
J

Slightly different model (I have a T430U) but this may help.
I had the same problem after doing a clean install of windows 8, lost the hit enter to go into BIOS option.
One way to do it is to use the advanced restart facility in windows 8.  To do this open up the "modern" UI settings (Win-C then choose settings-->change PC settings), go to the general page, scroll down to the bottom and you'll see an option for "Advanced Startup".  If you click the Restart now button and then choose to restart on the page you get offered as the PC powers down, it should let you enter the BIOS.
The other thing that seems to have restored the option to enter the BIOS for me (or at least it happened around when I made this change), was to disable hibernate.  Once I've done this I seem to get the BIOS option whenever I booted.

  • P45 Platinum - Vista works just fine, but unable to get into BIOS

This is my first build, so I'm still learning a lot. Be kind!
I'm using the P45 Platinum with an Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0ghz Wolfdale cpu, 2 2gb sticks 1066mhz G-Skill ram, a Corsair 750w PSU, EVGA Nvidia 8800GTS video card, a 74gb WD Raptor HDD and a 250gb WD Caviar HDD (both SATA). I'm currently running 32bit Vista until 64bit has more support.
I have never been able to access the BIOS - before Vista was installed the splash screen was too fast so I kept missing my oppurtunity to enter BIOS, so I went ahead and put in the Vista install DVD. It installed just fine - it doesn't see my second HDD, but I expected that due to it being SATA.
I want to enter the BIOS to disable the audio so I can download the new Realtek audio drivers (I have no sound, even after installing the driver off the CD), but when I start up the computer and hit DEL (when prompted), it takes me to the Windows Boot Manager. Several times I have repeated the process and every time it takes me to the boot manager instead of the BIOS. The BIOS is obviously working, I just can't access it.
    Any help is appreciated.

Simply keep hitting  >DEL< as soon as the Splash screen appears.  If that doesn't help, clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU.  Upon restart the system should hold with a CMOS Checksum error and give you the chance to hit F1 to enter BIOS Setup.  Now you can load "Optimized Defaults" and disable the BOOT LOGO.

  • Unable to enter into em in obiee 10g (oc4j admin) ,erroring out

    HI All,
I am trying enter into oc4j admin with proper password. how ever next screen shows an error.
    Error:
This OC4J is configured to make JMX connections via RMIS and fall back to RMI if the RMIS port is not configured. The RMIS connection on the OC4J instance null on Application Server null is configured but a connection could not be established. The JMX protocol is specified by the oracle.oc4j.jmx.internal.connection.protocol property in opmn.xml.
Any help on this .. was approached server methods as per google threads , no luck.
    Thanks,
    Ram

    Hi,
I remember this as an issue in Unix and it was recommended simply to use the Unix kill command to stop the standalone OC4J.
Also, metalink document 1312743.1 provides this syntax:
    java -jar OracleBI_HOME/oc4j_bi/j2ee/home/admin.jar ormi://localhost:23791 oc4jadmin <oc4jadmin password> -shutdown force
where <oc4jadmin password> is the password for the oc4jadmin user.
The syntax above works well on Windows. On Linux it generates the reported error.
If affected, try one of the following alternate syntax options. The first excludes the host name and port from the ormi argument. The second includes the IPV4 option.
    java -jar /OracleBI/oc4j_bi/j2ee/home/admin.jar ormi:// oc4jadmin <oc4jadmin password> -shutdown force
    java -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -jar /OracleBI/oc4j_bi/j2ee/home/admin.jar ormi://localhost:23791 oc4jadmin <oc4jadmin password> -shutdown force
    Hope this helps.

You need a CPU as well
Can you try with different PSU too?

  • Unable to enter into recovery/DFU mode for updating software

Hi, I bought a new iPhone 4 yesterday and while i was playing with it, I noticed that whenever I opened the camera app the phone crashes. I called apple and they told me to update the software.
When I connected it to itunes and tried to update, it gave me a random error (which i don't remember). I disconnected the phone and tried to reset the "Erase All Content and Settings" from the settings app itself but it was taking a very very long time. So i connected it to the computer again and now it has been stuck on the boot screen for about 2 hours. If i hit the sleep/wake button and the home button together and hold it down it goes into the recovery screen for about 2-3 seconds and then immediately quits and goes back to the boot screen, if i keep holding the two buttons this cycle continues but it never stays on the recovery screen for more than a second or two and hence I am unable to recover my phone.
I don't know what to do, please advise.

  • KT4A Ultra-FISR: unable to enter Raid Bios

System ran fine for about two months. Yesterday, raid went offline (maybe due to recent data loss). Started the machine today to find out that I can't enter the raid bios anymore??? Machine displays the boot screen, then beeps and the XP-Logo shows up. No way to press 'Ctrl+F', no sign of the controller, although it's activated in the bios and installed in Windows. Resetted the bios (V3.0), switched drives but menu still won't show up.
Any ideas? Is there a new bios?
    PLEASE HELP, TIA.

I am no good at this, but since you say your problem started when you for some reason lost the device or the BIOS(?), the computer cannot find the device, so it doesn't display any info about it.
My guessing is you should try to find it again. Would resetting the NVRAM help?
If that doesn't do it, try clearing CMOS. But follow the manual strictly, so you don't harm yourself or your system.

  • Can't enter into BIOS on my L750D/030

When I turn my laptop on I don't get a option to press F2.
It comes up saying no network cable connected and no boot-able media found.
It almost seems that I have lost my BIOS.
How or what can I do to get back into it ?

I found that removing the middle panel on the bottom allowed access to the BIOS battery, removing this and re-inserting, then reset the BIOS and allowed access into it once again.
    All is good.

  • Unable to enter into the external drive

HiI have copied some data in My Passport external drive 1TB earlier.  However, while copying my data, due to power fluctuations (even though the system is connected to  APC UPS) the system got hanged and rebooted.  From then onwards whenever I connect the passport external drive to the system it is showing a I/O error and after a long time it will recognise and give some letter say H: in the explorer. When I verified with device manager, I could see it as WD-<Passport ID> . WD data diagnostics software could not identify the drive. How do I recover the data from this error ?  what is it I have to do to see that data is recovered and drive is made reuable. thanks in advance-sunson

Hi and welcome to the WD community.
Try connecting the drive to a different computer, or perhaps using a different USB cable or port to see if you can access the drive.

  • P6N Platinum - Unable to enter BIOS. HELP!

I have built many systems (mostly with ASUS boards), and have NEVER had an issue like the one I'm having now.
I just recently purchased an MSI P6N SLI Platinum. After installing the hardware, including two sticks of Mushkin 2GB (996561) with 2.2-2.25 voltage, I have been unable to enter the bios.
If I push the "delete" key several times, I can get to a screen that shows the board info and bios version (1.0), CPU info (dual core 2, 2.4ghz), and then the memory total (shows the 4 gb and "ok").
But that's IT. The system just stays there - it won't go into bios. The four led lights on the D-Bracket 2 Connector indicate the system is "Testing Base and Extended Memory"). I have tried some Corsair XMS2 memory with 2.1 voltage, but same problem.
Is this issue due to the fact that the memory modules are not 1.8 volts, as specified in the manual? I thought the bios would allow the higher-voltage sticks to work and then make modifications in bios.
If anyone can suggest a fix, please let me know. I've tried resetting the CMOS, placing sticks in different slots, in different quantities.
    Thank you!

Try with only one memory module in Slot 1.

    I've tried resetting the CMOS
Was your PSU unplugged, when you did that?
    If not:
Turn off computer, unplug main power cable from PSU, hit the power-on button a few times to drain capacitors and CLEAR CMOS again.
Turn computer back on and see if that helps.

  • Unable to enter BIOS on Tecra S11

Unable to enter the BIOS on a Toshiba Tecra S11 using the ESC/F2 method after setting a Supervisor password.
    Previous (working) behavior:
    - Press ESC on boot
    - F2 (bios) and F12 (boot order) options are displayed
    - Press F2 to enter BIOS
A Supervisor password was set on this machine. The User password was left blank.
    Current behavior:
    - Press ESC on boot
    - F2 (bios) option is displayed. F12 option no longer displays
    - Press F2, screen blanks momentarily than proceeds to first boot device
At no time is there a prompt to enter the password. Tried blindly typing password while screen is blank (after pressing F2). Nothing.
    Thoughts?

It appears that the password may not have been confirmed prior to you exiting the BIOS.
So BIOS password is like it is limbo and so it resorts to locking itself.
Here is a trick you can try:
Press "Power" to turn on your Toshiba Satellite. If the laptop computer was already on, restart it.
Hold the "ESC" key until you hear your computer beep.
Tap the "F1" key to unlock your BIOS.
If the above does not work then you may have to resort to removing the cover of the notebook and pulling the CMOS battery out for 30 minutes to reset your BIOS altogether.
Here is the GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS to Changing the Passowrd in your BIOS
    Turn off your Toshiba laptop.
Wait 30 seconds and turn your laptop back on.
Press “F2” repeatedly as soon your Toshiba laptop begins booting until the BIOS menu screen appears.
Enter your existing BIOS password and press “Enter.”
Press “F2” again to enter the BIOS, if prompted.
Use your arrow keys to select the “Security” tab in the BIOS menu.
Use the arrow keys to select “Set User Password.”
Press either “F5” or “F6,” depending on your Toshiba laptop model, to open the Password section.
Enter the current password into the “Old Password” prompt and press “Enter.”
Press “Enter” when the “New Password” prompt appears. Do not enter any text in this box.
Press “Enter” again to confirm the new password.
Press “F10” to save your changes and exit.

  • Portege Z30 - unable to enter bios setup

    Hi,
I am unable to enter the BIOS setup upon boot. Pressing F2 allows me to enter both master and HDD/SDD password (validation confirmed), but the screen freezes at the "Toshiba Setup Utility" graphics without any progress.
This problem started to appear quite suddenly, I did enter the BIOS setup several times before without any issue. The only change that happened as far as I know is a failed suspend/resume event.
My suspicion is that the laptop is now in the hi-speed boot regime. Can anyone confirm that? Is there any way to force it to normal boot at the boot time? I am running Linux so I cannot use the Windows utilities from Toshiba.

    > I am running Linux so I cannot use the Windows utilities from Toshiba.
Thats bad :( within the Toshiba HW Setup you would find a setting to change the boot speed option.
    > My suspicion is that the laptop is now in the hi-speed boot regime. Can anyone confirm that?
Hmm in my opinion if boot speed would be set to fast, you would not be able to press F2 and to input the BIOS password.
However, in other cases if boot mode was set to fast, you could enter the BIOS pressing firstly INS button and then F2 button
    Try it out.
