Unable to enter new passcode keyboard won't boot

I am unable to confirm my passcode.  Once I create a new passcode and hit continue the keyboard disappears and won't boot to allow for typing.  Likewise in the enter stage you don't have the option to copy your new passcode (only paste) so you can't copy and paste at confirm.

  • New Wireless Keyboard won't stay linked

I use a MBP running Leopard in closed lid configuration at work and at home most of the time unless I'm on the road. My old white wireless keyboard never forget it is synched with my laptop. However, at home I constantly have to re-introduce my new aluminum wireless keyboard to my closed lid laptop. This gets old because when I restart at home I usually like to boot off of an external drive, and of course with no active keyboard I can't use the "option" key to select my boot drive.

  • Brand new mac mini won't boot

I bought a mac mini for my teenaged daughter because the lap top options simply weren't in our price range. I have a high end dell monitor that is about five years old. It hasn't been used regularly so I felt this was a good fit. I was reassured by several that my peripherals would work with the mac mini... no problem. We had to buy a new keyboard, mouse and adapter for the monitor. This took several days and two trips to two different stores to accomplish. We finally got everything set up and working properly or so we thought. The system struggled to download office suite for mac. The system stopped working completely after attempting to download norton anti-virus for mac. Now the system won't boot at all. I've only tried to turn the system on and off to get it working again. I had it up for five minutes yesterday but again it shut down for no reason and now I can't get it back up at all. I usppose a trip to the Apple store is next on the list. Any suggestions are appreciated.

That is good news...the genius bar folks are generally great to deal with.  Especially when you make an appointment and don't get all upset while waiting for someone to get free

  • New hard drive won't boot!

I have an iBook, and the hard drive recently broke. First I installed os x on my external firewire hard drive, but the iBook wouldn't boot off of it (it's a maxtor onetouch drive). I got another hard drive, and using the installer (for panther), I formatted the drive, and installed os x on it. However, the iBook won't boot off of the drive. What is wrong? Is it more serious than just the hard drive?

Well I just tried to boot off of the external hard drive (which is a Maxtor Onetouch firewire drive), while I didn't have an operational hard drive. However now that the replacement drive doesn't work as well (which I am more concerned about), I am wondering whether it is a more serious issue, or not. When I took it apart, I didn't see a logic board connector as in http://www.sterpin.net/uk/ddibookg4uk.htm (picture 43). It boots the installation cd fine, so I assume that there is not a problem with the logic board? The drive I purchased was completely empty, and I am wondering whether the boot part of the partition is wrong?
In disk utilities (in the installer), it does not see the new internal drive. I have tried to start up holding the option key, but it only has a screen with two buttons, and that ticking clock as a cursor.

  • IMac G5 with new Seagate 250 won't boot with 10.4.8

I had to replace the original Maxtor 250 GB drive in my iMac G5 (17") today. It used to work perfectly with upgrade 10.4.8. But, the computer now fitted with a Seagate Barracuda 250 GB won't boot after 10.4.8 is installed. It does boot with the Tiger original install from the DVD. Something in the upgrade corrupts the drive. Maybe it is this specific drive, I don't know. There are errors reported by Disk Utility when I run it from the Tiger DVD after I've installed the 10.4.8 upgrade (from the web).
Did that happen to someone else ?

  • New iMac keyboard won't recognize devices

My new iMac won't recognize my iPod when I plug it into the keyboard. I have to plug it into the display . This is tough because of it's location. Anyway to make the keyboard recognize?

  • Pricing Routine - unable to enter new net price in sales order

    Hi all,
I have a routine 993 in sales order which is in Column 'Bas Type' in pricing procedure .  The routine has statement like this that calculate the unit price:
      If xkomv-kbetr is initial.
            xkomv-kbetr =  komp-netwr /  kmeng
    Endif.
This calculate the net price which appear in the column 'Amount/Net Price.   In the order, the user can change the net price in column 'amount'.  However, if i remove the line  "If xkomv-kbetr is initial",   the user can change the amount, but the amount value will stay as the original amount.  I don;t understand why this happen.   I have been debugging saplv61A (FM Pricing) but unable to get the flow.   Can anyone pls provide guidance ?

  • New mac mini won't boot.

Sorry I couldn't wait for a refresh.  So I went to FRYS and got the last 529 mini. Under 600 and I got a mini 2.3ghz i5 and and 16gb flash stick for under 600 which is normally 600 plus tax.
Good deal. I'm so happy. Sorry I got impatient and couldn't wait for the refresh.
But 1 issue. It doesn't work. When I turn it on it all I get is a picture of a blinking trackpad and mouse. My mouse is wireless and battery is fine. Or mac is picky and need brand new battery.
What do I do. I don't have any corded mice.

What happened was I plugged the keyboard and mouse into my hub by mistake and it was not plugged.  But the mini should of booted anyway without anything.  I guess not however.  So all is good now.  But my wireless mouse still won't work even with unplugging it.  But sliding the switch at the bottom on and off worked and now all is good thanks.

  • New K8T NEO won't boot

I’m a longtime computer fixer but new builder –
New setup - first turn on, I get only the first MSI logo and am therefore unable to DEL into BIOS setup. The D-Bracket cycles through several combinations, but stops with red on 1 and green on 2, 3, and 4. The manual says this means:
“Boot Attempt – This will set low stack and boot via INT 19h”
The only PCI card is the video. I did try disconnecting all the drives. Nothing ever happens beyond the first MSI logo. I didn’t try changing any front panel connections. The power light does come on and the power switch functions properly.
I am temporarily using a Dell nVidia AGP video card and that is the only card installed.

As the originator of this thread, I can now give a final resolution, as my computer is now humming along and working perfectly.
The problem was a bad motherboard. It was returned to NewEgg (my cost, ca. $8.70) and they shipped a replacement back to me. YES. Instant success.
For a brief recap, initially, only the very first MSI screen showed and other than fans functioning, nothing at all would move forward into BIOS. No keyboard, mouse, nothing, in spite of trying different input devices.
When I finally disconnected the USB connection to the front ports, the computer would move forward, but the mouse NEVER worked, only one of my keyboards would work, and none of the USB ports functioned.
When I connected the front USB wires to the new Mobo (after all other setup was done successfully, inlcuding online MS updates) in the same configuration (red, white, green/yellow, black), the front ports worked fine, along with the other 6.
I did replace the memory and power supply before returning the mobo, so now I have an Antec True 430 and Crucial memory, and some extra stuff. I'll have to buy another case and build another computer for my mother (93 and still learning).
Life is fine. Thanks for the help and suggestions that helped to isolate the issue.

  • New Memory Computer won't boot windows

I am running a MSI A58M-E33 running Windows XP
    AMD A Series A4-6300 - 3.7 GHz - 2 Cores - 1 MB Cache - Socket FM2 - Box - AD6300OKHLBOX
    It came with Memory of
    ADATA XPG V1 4GB Desktop Memory Module - DDR3 1600, PC3-12800, Blue - AX3U1600C4G11-SD
It's been running fine since December. I decided to add another memory component. So I bought a duplicate ADATA memory stick
    Now my computer is saying
CPU or Memory Changed !!!! Please enter setup to configure your system.
    Press F1 to run setup.
Press F2 to load default values and continue.
I tried F2 and it goes to load XP and then ask to run in safe mode or normal. I don't see what options to select in the bios for memory. Is there an option to choose what it loads?
I tried taking out the new memory and just using the old memory and it still has the same problem. Same problem with just the new memory or just the old or both together it fails to load. I can access the bios but am unable to load the preinstalled windows os.
Do I have to reinstall windows when installing new memory? I could have sworn the last time I did this on another computer it started no problem.
The only strange thing is though the memory looks the same on the outside. Same stickers same pictures same colors. When I explore my board the old memory is labeled.
    DDR3 memory slot 1: DDR3 SDRAM - Kingmax                                          EWB4GB681CA3-16IC
And the new memory is labeled
    DDR3 memory slot 2: DDR3 SDRAM - A-DATA                                            DDR3 1600
Both say A-Data on the physical memory so I wonder if I was swindled on the original and it really isn't A-Data.
    So what should I do?

Windows XP (non-64 bit) can only detect up to 4 GB of memory.
HOWEVER....a 32-bit system will shadow various memory from the end of memory back towards the beginning. Things such as your video card memory and other various memory components will be shadowed.
On top of that, if you are using the on-board video, the memory allocated to it will start at the 4GB point and work towards the beginning. So if you set it to use 1GB of memory, it will reserve 1 GB of system memory for use with the video card. In that case, you would only have 3GB available. Add in other shadowed components, and you might be at 2.96 available.
All in all, for a 32-bit system, this isn't surprising. Many people don't remember those days, but us old people do.
I would consider upgrading to a 64 bit based OS before going further.

  • Hard drive failure, new hard drive won't boot

    Toshiba Satellite A665
I bought this laptop 14 months ago, last month the laptop refused to boot. It would say:
    Isolinux disk error 05, ax4250, drive 9f
    Boot failed
Often times on boot it would just show the black screen with a blinking underscore.
I tried all my known methods and nothing so I took it to a couple of shops. Both said that the hard drive was beyond repairable and not recoverable.
So I bought a new hard drive, installed it with the Toshiba recovery media. The recovery and install on new and drive went well. Had to restart, and upon restart, the original problem came up again- black screen with blinking underscore. I am unable to boot up. Any suggestions?
    Thank you all

    AHA, just fan issue?
    Tukaine
    Sep 23, 2012 10:59 PM
Since the late 2009 iMacs came out, replacing the hard drive has caused the internal Hard Drive Fan to start running at around 6000RPM.
This is due to Apple replacing the external Hard Drive temperature sensor with a proprietary firmware and using the drives internal sensor.
Replacement drives do not contain the firmware to deliver temperature data on the temperature sensor cable.
When the iMac does not receive a good signal from the hard drive it puts the fan at full speed to protect the drive.
If you replace your drive, your iMac will initially seem fine, but soon the fan will begin to speed up to full speed. Resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) will have a temporary effect, but again the fan will speed up.
Fixes people have used in the past included:
Using smcFanControl and the terminal to set a MAX speed for the fan and writing scripts to start this after every sleep/restart.
Shorting the temperature sensor cable (Not a possibility on 2011 iMacs) this tricks the iMac into thinking the drives temperature is very low, hence slow fan speed.
Both these fixes are less then perfect and leave the drive in a dangerous situation with no protection from overheating.
Another option people try is other Fan Control software. These programs will not work for this particular issue as they often only control the base speed, and if they do control the fans actual speed they rely on the temperature reported by the sensor which is now incorrect.
    HDD Fan Control
HDD Fan Control works to fix this issue by reading the drives internal temperature using the S.M.A.R.T protocol and set the fans actual speed to a value good to protect the drive.
It runs at startup and continually to always control the fan correctly, prevent the loud fan noise and protect the drive from overheating
Instead of HDDFan Control, get the free SSDFan Control

  • New Unibody MBP won't boot from DVD or external drive, just loops

    Hey
We bought a new Unibody MBP on Monday, and loaned it to our CTO for a presentation. Having got it back from him now I wanted to nuke the installation and put a fresh copy of leopard on it, so I dropped the DVD in the drive, powered down, and booted holding the "C" key.
I get the chime, screen lights up, thinks for a bit, and if you use your imagination you can almost hear the DVD spin up. Then the screen goes black, lights up, chime, thinks a bit, goes black, lights up, chime and so on
I've tried booting from an external bootable clone I created with CCC (firewire external HDD), and same symptoms.
I even tried swapping in a hard drive that I know has a working bootable copy of Leopard on it, and then all I get is the eternal cycle, without pressing any keys on startup.
I also tried holding down the Option (Alt) key on boot to get the boot device selector. This correctly identifies the various boot devices - the DVD, on-board HDD and external firewire drive (if connected), and lets you select them, tries to boot, thinks, black screen, screen lights up, chime, repeat cycle endlessly until extremely frustrated.
Is there a known cure for this or am I doomed to take the thing back to the Apple store on Monday?
    Thanks
    Konrad

That is not the reason it didn't work. Here is the actual clarity:
*A retail Leopard DVD should be able to boot a new Macbook Pro unibody.*
So you are saying even if the driver for the controller on which the DVD drive sits is not available in the Leopard DVD you are using because the hardware was not manufactured at the time the Leopard release on the DVD was made, the OS should magically just boot? How is that possible? Unibody MacBook Pros have entirely NEW AHCI chipset - for which there won't be any drivers on the older Leopard DVD and as such the DVD wont be detected once the OS on the DVD loads. In cases where the chipset used is same (as in previous generations of MBP) it will boot.
The key difference here is that if you used an older version, some new hardware may not be supported - however, the computer *should still boot from the DVD*, which is the subject of this discussion.
The OP said that his computer boots from the DVD that came with the computer - just not with the old retail Leopard DVD. Also - what should happen if the new hardware happens to be the controller on which the DVD drive is sitting? How will it be able to read the DVD? What about the graphics card? If the drivers on the old leopard disk do not recognize the new graphics card - how is the OS going to display on screen?
On my way home, I stopped at a Mac store and asked them to test this. They successfully booted a new Macbook Pro unibody from an older Leopard DVD. And this is why Apple is replacing my computer, because it is a hardware issue, not a software one.
Again - you fail to understand that whether or not the old DVD boots on a new machine all depends on how much hardware has changed and what hardware has changed. It may boot on some generation of machine because the basic chipset and graphics did not change or were handled generically by the drivers on the older DVD but it may totally refuse to boot on new gen machine which has totally different / incompatible hardware.
So your claim that any old Leopard DVD must continue to boot on any new machine is not really technically explainable.
