Unable to erase 4s

Hi.  I got a new 5c but only because the wifi button stopped working on my 4s.  The 4s is not using cellular and I can't connect it to wifi because the button is greyed out.  I need to erase all content and settings and i can't.  I've searched the boards and can't seem to find a solution.  I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue.  Thank you in advance.

Try forcing the phone into recovery mode, as described here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Restore it as a "new" device.

  • Aggravated: Unable to Erase Authorization, Here's what I've already tried...

I need to test out Epub files I create before sending them to market, so I downloaded Adobe Digital Editions for Mac from here: Download | Adobe Digital Editions
    I followed installation setup
I logged in with my existing Adobe ID
I downloaded a few borrowed Epub books from my local library so I could test an already-working file and be sure the program works sufficiently before trying the file I created.
I then tried to add the *.acsm file by both File>Add to Library and by double-clicking on the file in Finder.
I received the following message: "Unable to Download Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ACT_NOT_READY
I went to the help page here: License server communication error: E_ACT_NOT_READY
I followed the instructions to erase authorization, but received the following message: "Unable to Erase Authorization. Please try after some time."
I tried this multiple times but always received the same error message.
I looked here: I'm unable to deauthorize my computer.  Getting an error message "Unable to erase authorization.  Please try again after some time."
I could not find the activation.dat file, as the furthest I got was "Computer/Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe" ...but there was no folder for Adobe Digital Editions. I replied on the thread.
Wondering if it would help, I uninstalled and then re-installed Digital Editions
    Same problems are occurring.
At a loss after searching every forum topic on "unable to erase authorization" and anything remotely associated with it (especially since most posts were unanswered), I called Adobe support since I have a CC license. However, Adobe phone support does not support ADE. I asked them to inform a supervisor that questions on the forum are going unanswered.
I am now ready to throw the damn computer.
Please help me. I need this program to work as I am trying to create my own Epub documents and want to test them in a reader app before making the files available to the public.

  • Unable to erase disc and other problems

My mac died on me and I'm trying to restore. After trying a few things I've erased my partition, leaving boot camp alive and well. If I try and restore, most backups say 'unable to erase disc' or 'error'. One version restores some but gives me a list of things it can't recover and tells me to try another backup.
If it reboots after a failed attempt it can't see either partition. Not even disc utility finds them. I have to turn off and on again to see the partitions.
I have checked the disc using disk utility and repair and verify both say the disc is fine.
    1) Can I get the restore feature to not erase the partition before it restores? I can prep the disk using disk utility if I can.
    2) What else is causing the problem?
I've tried the last five or six backups so far. I've not yet had time to try the one that half-worked twice, to see whether a second attempt would work or whether it might also come up with an error (which may in turn suggest that it's the prepping of the disc that could cause this).
    Any tips greatly appreciated.

Problem sort of solved - iLife'11 appears to have caused the problem and I had to use an even earlier backup to restore the Macbook Pro.

  • Cannot erase authorization. "Unable to erase authorization. Please try after some time." Please help!!

I am having a number of problems with Digital Editions, and I have tried the chat options numerous times but no one seems to be able to help me. I cannot express how disappointed I am with Adobe. I have an ebook that I paid a lot of money for and I need to access it for work, but when I try to download the e-book I get the error message E_ACT_NOT_READY. The forums say I need to deauthorise my account, but when I try to erase authorization I get the message "Unable to erase authorization. Please try after some time." This has been happening for weeks. For 2 weeks I have been trying to solve this problem. Can somebody please help me or give me a phone number to call to reach adobe? I am desperate at this point.

  • When I try to erase my authorization of my computer it keeps saying, "unable to erase authorization. Try again after sometime"

.When I try to erase my authorization of my computer it keeps saying, ""unable to erase authorization. Try again after sometime"

Ok. I was able to resolve this issue.  On my mac, it was due to two things. I'm using two macintoshes.  One for home and one for work.  Both are setup for handoff.  1) make sure the library folder is not invisible.  There must be more than one occurrence of the activate.dat file to delete.  2) Once I found it on my work mac and deleted it, it actually removed authorization from both macs!  I can't explain how this happened, but it must be due to the handoff settings.  So, then I re-authorized the original macintosh first and made sure my books could be read with no errors, then I authorized the work mac (before any books were imported to the library).  Both macs were authorized, and the first mac was working fine.  Then I imported the books into my work mac and everything is working properly on both macs.

  • I can't erase my authorization in order to reauthorize it. It says "Unable to erase authorization. Please try in some time." However, I have tried on various different days and the same thing appears.

I am not able to erase my authorization in order to reauthorize it.  I follow the steps in the dialog box and it says unable to erase authorization.  I've tried uninstalling the pplication and reinstalling it but that doesn't work.

I have windows 7 so the other answers to this don't work for me.

  • Unable to erase Samsung Pro 850 in Macbook Pro mid 2012

I have just installed a Samsung Pro 850 in a 13" Macbook Pro mid 2012.
I boot the computer with a USB stick with Yosemite image on it.
When I try to installe Yosemite on the disk it fails with an error "Unable to unmount volume for repair".
After that I have tried to erase and partition in disk utility, but that fails with "
wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed".
It looks a lot like this old discussion:
Disk erase ailed with the error :wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed.
I have tried putting the Samsung Pro 850 in an external USB case. When it sits in the USB case I can easily install Yosemite on it, and erase and partition - no problem.
Tonight I took the disk to a friends 2011 Macbook Pro 17" (running SATA 2). He had no problems whatsoever with the disk.
Why does it only fail in my MBP?

Did your friend also try using your USB flash drive installer? Have you tried this method:
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Unable to erase disk

I am trying to completely erase this external hard drive that I was using with Time Machine.
I started having issues after I...
Added a partition to a disk that I was already using with Time Machine
Encrypted the first partition that contained the Time Machine BackupsI encrypted it using the Time Machine software
Encrypted the newly added second partition
Erased both partitions so that they were no longer encrypted nor contained data.
Now... I'm unable to delete either partition.  Only if I click on the first partition does it allow the minus (Delete) button.  However, when I click it nothing happens.  When I view the log it says it can't find the partition.
When I click the second partition it doesn't even give me the option to delete it.
When I click on the actual disk volume (very top left) it does NOT give me an "Erase" tab to delete both partitions and start fresh.
    What am I missing?

Ok. While no one has been able to assist...  I have eventually found a so far work around. By using the apple start up/utilities via a USB and the using disk utilities option I created two partitions. The first created a new clean pation and the second portion failed as it contains all of the corrupted files, which is fine.  I am now restoring from back up to he new clean Parton.  While this has halved my disk space it at least gives me a way to start up my computer and I will then try and use this portion via Terminal to fix the other portion.  Thanks to anyone that did think of a remedy and if you do think of anything please lt me know.  The issue apparently is that all of the files are in an open status.

I'm trying to reset my 5th gen IPOD nano so i can give it to my niece, but I don't seem to have the 'erase all data' option under the settings menu. I've tried hitting menu and play/pause button to do a hard rest, but that doesn't work either. Uggghhh.
Also, does anyone know if she can just use it as an MP3 player without itunes?

  • Unable to erase external hard drive with Disk Utility

Macbook Pro (mid 2010) running 10.9
    Hello
Recently, my Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1 TB external hard drive has not been showing up on my desktop or in finder.  The light is on when connected, and in the Disk Utility it appears.
    1.  It was naturally created with a partition on it (all of the 1TB allocated to it) and it appears in the Disk Utility as well; however, it is grayed out.
    2.  I clicked the actual drive in DU and it was verified as being ok.  I clicked on the partition next to verify and it said "Error disk needs repaired"
    3.  So I clicked repair, "Disk Utility cannot repair the disk..restore as many as your backed-up files...etc."
    4.  No problem (the data on the hard drive is used for my Time Machine back ups and my current internal hard drive is working fine with all the data intact)
    5.  Ok, so I click the erase tab on the entire external hard drive...erase..."Disk cannot be unmounted"
    6.  Ok, I try to erase the invidual partition..."Could not open disk"
It seems every time I try to erase this drive completely im hitting blocks.  I even tried this method from the OS X Recovery menu (Command+R on startup).  I would greatly appreciate any help to just get this whole thing external hard drive erased and start anew.  How else would I go about this?
    (pictures for reference)
    Thank you all

If this is your only backup device, you need to start a new backup on another drive immediately. Don't erase (or try to erase) your only backup.
After you have the other backup, boot into Recovery and try again to erase the volume. You will have to unlock it before you can do anything with it, because it's encrypted.
If you still can't erase it, the drive has failed.

  • I am unable to erase hard drive after a crash, also cannot reinstall Lion because disk is locked.  There seems to be nothing else to do, suggestions?  Where do I go from here?

I downloaded Lion 100 days ago (conveniently after the 90 day tech support)  now my HDD has crashed and it gets stuck at the apple screen.  I then hold command R and go to disc utility try to repair, that doesn't work, and try to erase.  But it says error, cannot unmount disk.  I then try to reload Lion, but it says the disk is locked.  Okay, so do I need a new hard drive?  If so that's fine, I just cannot seem to erase this drive to reinstall lion.  Also, I don't have a disk to reinstall OSx, as Lion is done via internet.

Wow, thanks.  It did the trick.  So now I am confused, do you think I still need to take in my Mac to see if there are some problems with the hard drive, or do you think I'm in the clear.  I was going to get a new hard drive installed, because I thought that was the issue seeing as I couldn't access it during safe mode.

  • Unable to erase & install from installation disk

Somehow my macmini snow leopard software bit the dust (started with EyeTV corrupting I think) so after pursuing disk repair and other options I tried doing a fresh installation but accidently used an upgrade DVD of Snow Leopard rather than an original installation disk. Install failed. I pulled out my installation disk and tried holding down the C key to boot from disk. The best I get is the whirring grey circle, but I can't seem to get a disk boot up. Happy to do an erase and install on the hard drive - if I can get to it.
Any suggestions on how to force an installation DVD boot up apart from holding the C key down?
    All replies appreciated.

Both my iMac and MacBook Pro 13' went down on 13th April - and would not reboot - both had identical failures - which from probability should be extremely low - unless it is due to the same software problem.
After a number of attempts to reinstall 10.6, recovery of my time machine latest backup - all of which failed - just now recovery from time machine to March 30th date with 10.6.2 (just before 10.6.3 upgrade was installed) - finally worked on my laptop. I am going to try it on my iMac desktop tomorrow.
I think your problems are linked to 10.6.3 update as I am convinced - both machines failing
identically around the same time in the same fashion due to same software corruption seems greatly unlikely. I see that others are having problems with mouse etc after 10.6.3 update.
Looks like 10.6.3 update requires a big fix !!

  • HT1773 Unable to erase and re-install leopard OS in my macbook pro

    Hi all
I wanted to re-install my macbook pro by using installation CD (given by apple). But when I tried to restart, unable to restart the computer even I was holding the C key.
    How can format and re-install?
    Kindly help
    Regards
    Suresh

There is not much to work with, Suresh.
For all we know it may have never worked, or it may be the wrong grey disk for your MacBook. You have done pretty well to go this long without requiring its use.
Two months ago I would have said buy another disk, the coloured retail 10.6 DVD with the image of the Snow Leopard. They used to be about $30, however finding one is now as difficult as finding a real one in the Himalaya.
If you live in the US, the 10.6 DVD can be ordered over the phone. Other countries… hard to say.
Essentially, I would question the disk,
which implies trying another 10.6.3 DVD that you know works,
or equally, inserting the one you have into another Mac just to see if that other Mac can see it, but not to proceed, just to see if it registers as bootable, using the alt/Option key during the startup phase.
