Unable to fast forward podcasts

Hi everyone,
I have been having problems with trying to fast forward podcasts. On the occasion that I have to stop my podcast halfway through, I am sometimes unable to start at the point where I start. I've tried fast forward to the point where I've stopped but am not able to do so.
Can someone please tell me if we can actually fast forward podcasts? I've tried the 5R's and it still doesn't. I vague recall being able to do so in the past.
Please advise. Thank you in advance.

I have the same problem as well. Whenever I want to fast forward certain podcasts they restart from the beginning. On my other Ipod the same podcast can be fast forwarded fine. I have tried a reset which oes not help. The hidden diagnostic commands indiciate that everything is ok. Does anyone have any answers?

  • Unable to fast forward through podcasts

I've recently noticed that I can't fast forward through podcasts on my iPod touch, specifically with NPR All Songs Considered ones (I don't listen to any other ones, so it may not be specific to these ones). Its annoying because I can't pick up from where I left off listening. Every time I try using the bar to move through the podcast, it starts over from the beginning. Is this intentional? Is it specific to the podcast?

This is a long standing problem with iPods and appears to be specific to podcasts that get encoded using LAME, arguably the best available encoder anywhere.
From what I can tell from searching over the years, this is due to the iPod looking at a very old style header (XING) instead of the proper field in the LAME set header. This is as near as I can figure out from the posts.
This causes problems like the iPod thinks the track is shorter than it really is (a good example of this is a long MP3 like one disc of an audiobook) and stops prematurely. Very annoying.
In the case of the NPR podcasts, the bug in the iPod causes crashes when you try to fast forward or seek.
Neither of these problems appear to be related in any way to "remember playback position", so don't necessarily go down that route.
An easy way to check for this issue on a podcast is to highlight it, and then right click, select Get Info. If you see LAME as the encoding, look out, your iPod will possibly not play it correctly.
These same podcasts play back absolutely fine on any other player, and over the years it has been consistently narrowed down to a bug in the iPod.
I sure wish Apple would fix this. I just had the same problem with a recent podcast on my 2nd gen Nano, so we loaded it onto my son's brand new iPod. I thought surely Apple would have fixed this by now, but sure enough, still broke on the latest Nano version!

  • Fast forward podcasts

On my iPhone I have a 15 second fast forward "button" in podcasts. I do not see that same button on either of my iPads. Is there a way to get the 15 second fast forward "button" on iPads?

  • Unable to fast forward.

I have the latest version of Quicktime installed on my MacPro.
I recently installed the real player app and since then I am unable to drag the Quicktime cursor to fast forward through a movie.
This occurs with any .wmv movie. Even though I have the latest Flip4Mac installed.
I have tried trashing all of the real player app and files that I can find, to no avail.
    Any ideas?

  • N91 new firmware, unable to fast forward or rewind

I just upgraded my Nokia N91 to the new 2.00.052 firmware and run into a problem. After the upgrade, I can no longer fast forward, rewind or pause tracks encoded in eAAC+ format. If I do attempt to do any of the above actions, the song pauses and just won't unpause. However, the problem doesn't occur with songs encoded in mp3 format.
I have tried formatting the hard drive and erasing the phone memory and updating the firmware again, but to no avail. I have been using the latest versions of PC Suite and Nokia Software updater.
This is pretty annoying, as these are fundemental operations that one might want to do when playing a song. And I love the eAAC+ format, don't want to go back to mp3.
Does anyone have any suggestions at all?
    Cheers

Well, I don't use eAAC+ songs that much, but I can confirm that I have the same problem
It only plays the song from the begining.

  • Unable to Fast Forward Through A Song Without It Restarting the Song

    Hello,
I have a new 5th generation 80gb ipod. If I attempt to fast forward through a song, it moves the clock ahead, but then restarts the song. The same also occurs if I try to rewind back in during a song. At first, I thought it was a touch issue, but it is not.
Also, when a song starts to play, the clock clicks off 3 or 4 seconds, then starts back at 0:00, but the song keeps playing normally. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Z1 Unable to fast forward/rewind music

I wondered if anyone could help me with this. Within the Sony Walkman app the function 'Press and hold' to fast forward or rewind doesnt work. When you use this feature on my phone it just skips tracks on release of the button regardless of the length of time the button is held down. Is anyone else having this issue or is it just me? Cant find any similar issues searching round the web. Thanks in advance
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Are you in the overview screen where you just have a small song bar at the bottom of the screen and the screen is showing your other albums, if yes, than you can't fast forward or rewind. Press on the track that your are listening to, to reach the screen that is showing the cover art of the song and some sort of bigger track controls. On this screen you should be able to fast forward and rewind the song.

  • How can I fast forward in Podcast?

I want to know how to fast forward in a podcast?  I can hold down the fast forward button and it goes a few seconds and I can rewind for a few seconds.  However I want to fast forward minutes.
Any suggestions?  I see in the manual on page 62 about podcast and audiobook controlls but I don't have playback speed or a skip to any point in the timeline.

To skip to any point on the timeline, drag the playhead along the scrubber bar.  While dragging, slide your finger down to slowdown the scrub rate.

  • Why can't I fast forward my podcasts?

I've just installed the new (disastrous) version of iTunes and I can't fast forward my episodes! This means that if I don't listen/watch an episode until the end and just click on something else on iTunes (for example, another episode of another podcast) I'll have to watch the whole thing again! This is most annoying, as my episodes are typically one-hour long. What is going on?
I also noticed my old episodes (the ones I intended to keep so I could watch again) are mostly gone, and I didn't have any backups because, until now, if I wanted to keep my epidodes, all I had to do was not delete them.
Seriously, I do love Mac but iTunes is really not the best thing they've ever come up with.

No, not all ... just some of the purchased music tracks, and most of those concentrated in recent releases.
Your options are to either work with ITMS Support to get your d/l tracks replaced (frequently they'll be okay on the second try, but not always), or can go through a complicated sequence of burning off to CD and then reimporting the track (which seems to almost always work).
There are multiple threads about this very issue in this and other forums; a quick use of the Search window would have given you your answer before ever having to post.

  • Can not fast forward though podcasts on iPhone 4.

When I first got the phone I was able to fast forward though them. Then something happened three days ago and now I can't fast forward though them at all. When I'm looking at the podcast selection screen it shows '--:--' as the time for all the podcasts. When the podcast is playing it shows '-00:00' as the play time and the scrubber never moves. If I try to fast forward at all it just jumps back to the beginning of the podcast.
Anyone find a fix for this?

I have the same problem. But it happens in mp3 music as well as podcasts. The only solution I've found is to reboot my iPhone. It's kind of a hassle, so I'd like to see a fix from Apple.

  • No chapter list in podcast / Fast Forward issues

    No chapter list in podcast.
When I listen to music and press fast forward it would go the next chapter of the podcast but now it seems it goes to the next podcast.
Is there a setting or something I am missing or not aware of?
Very annoying when I download music podcast and cannot move to the next chapter!
    ARGHHHHH

    i feel your pain.
after some messing around with siri, the music app and the podcast app. here's a solution that works (kind-of). i hate it, but i'm a subscriber of the economist too and this is the only way i know to play individual chapters.
basically if you can get music app -- note NOT the iTunes app and NOT the podcast app, but specifically your music app --, to start playing your podcast then you can see the chapter list inside that podcast.
the problem is that there is no easy way to launch your music app and point it at your podcast (how dumb is that ?). the work around i've found is to use siri. if you say 'play the economist podcast', siri uses the music app to start playing the podcast. and lo-and-behold, you can see the chapters !
hope this helps. apple really need to fix this.

  • Fast Forward will not change podcasts

When in the Podcast Folder (20 gb 4th generation) and listening to a podcast, I cannot click on the fast forward area and move to the next podcast in line. I am returned to the menu where I have to start all over again. This feature works OK in my mini-ipod. Any suggestions on solving or troubleshooting this problem. Thanks.

  • What happened to the Podcast fast forward 15 sec function in the lock screen? It went away when I upgraded to iOS 7.1.

I thought the same thing, until I saw there is a podcast update as well in the app store, that fixes this.

  • Podcasts Fast Forward Stuck

When I play podcasts on my iPhone they sound as if they are stuck on the fast forward. All the voices are sped up too fast. This does not happen on songs, just podcasts. Any idea what the cause could be?

"The speed options appear along with the "scrubber bar" and "Email" and "30-second repeat" options when you tap the cover image in the "Now Playing" screen."

  • Is there a way to fast forward a podcast/music with some precision?

Is there a magnifying glass tool available to fast forward/rewind podcasts?

Yeah, but come on, that pales in comparison to the control you had with the wheel. I still can't believe that they didn't come up with some kind of touch-screen equivalent of the control you had with the wheel. Holding the button down is like chasing a moving target, although it's better than using your thumb to move the dot, which is completely worthless.
