Unable to find aperture library when set up wallpaper
This has stuggled me for around a year, ever since i upgrade to lion when it is available, i found its hard for me to change my wallpaper to the images located in my aperture library. It's simplely not showing up as a available option in the preference panel desktop image section.
No offense, but dont tell me to do the repair disk, repair permission thing, or change the preview as "always" in the sharing section.
This is what i've done:
1>I've done format the entier hard drive "7 pass erase" around 3 times
2>Fixed the permission, repaired disk, runned daily weekly monthly script for thousands of times.
3>Reinstalled the OS thousands of times.
4>Repair Permission, Repair Database, Rebuid Database for Aperture 3 thousands of time.
5>Runned ACL repair under recovery mode 3 times in Apple Terminal.
6>Called Apple Support, reached to 3 different senior technicients
7>Done the research online
8>Tried everything i can.
I like photography, and i have a 70G aperture library. now i can only export the image into a folder and choose the image from the folder to do it. I know I know, It's not a big deal, just wallpaper. I'd done some programing for 2 3 years. It's kind of a habbit for me to debug the thing, i feel like this is issue for me, which makes me uncomfortable. Can anyone tell me how to fix this or have any clue?
Have you tried putting your pictures in this folder:
I just tried two things: putting a folder into the Pictures folder did not result in any pics showing in the Preferences Pane; however, putting individual pics in that folder worked - they showed up in the Pane immediately.

After update to yosemite screensaver doesn't find aperture library albums
After I updated to Yosemite the screensaver doesn't seem able to find aperture library albums.
When I select an aperture library album (last 3 months) the screensaver is initially able to find this album. After a while and for sure after a restart, it uses the default 'National Geographic'.
It looks like it takes a long time for the screensaver to open the selected album and then it finally takes the default folder.
Does anybody have an idea?Screen Saver changes on it’s own
Another workaround is to delete the pictures in the National Geographic folder and add your picture there. Hard drive level Library/ScreenSavers. -

I received a psd file created in CS6 for MAC, I am unable to find the layers when I open it in photoshop in Windows. What can i do to edit the files? What can be done so that I can either open and see the layers or how can the sender save it in a way that it doesn't "merge" the layers in some way to just one?
Could try saving as tiff provided layers and transparency are chosen at the time of saving. But it's hard to give a definitive answer as it depends on the final usage. For example PSD's tend to work better in applications like In Design in comparison with tiff.

Photos blow up when set to wallpaper
I want to set a photo from my gallery to my wallpaper. When I do this it blows the photo up, how can I get this to stop? does anyone know the proper sizing?
so far there is no way to keep them from blowing up even with the cropping option you get before setting the picture as wallpaper. the picture still tends to be a little blurry when set as wallpaper because as the verizon wireless employee said they are set to screen, even cropped.

IPhoto can't find Aperture library files
Since Apple added the ability to open Aperture libraries in iPhoto, I've been unable to so with my main Aperture library. If I create a new library in Aperture, no problem. Upgraded the library when the latest versions were released, performed all command-option first aid when opening, multiple times, duplicated, moved the library between different drives, relocated originals (it was completely managed), checked and played with permissions, all to no avail. When I open iPhoto, it brings up a notification that it's updating thumbnails. Then I immediately get the error "The photo “xxxxxxxx.JPG” could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found." I cancel and another immediate error, this continues on seemingly forever, and, with thousands of pictures in the library, I've basically got to Force Quit. The library is on an external drive and I've tried this on 3 Macs with the same result. If I'm within Aperture and search for any of the photos that iPhoto couldn't find, they're there and Aperture can show me them in the Finder. However, what I noticed today is that if I perform a manual search from the Finder of the library, it doesn't find the file. Oddly, if there are similar names; img_001 and img_001(1), searching for "img_001" won't show the first exactly matching file at all, but will show the second. Although, I can browse and they're sitting there right next to each other. Again, same behavior on multiple Macs. I'm thinking that the Finder behavior and iPhoto issue may be related. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
DaveLéonie,
Results as follows:
Mac-Mini:~ Dave$ ls -B /Volumes/My\ Passport\ for\ Mac/Photos/IMG_0030.JPG
/Volumes/My Passport for Mac/Photos/IMG_0030.JPG
Mac-Mini:~ Dave$ ls -B /Volumes/My\ Passport\ for\ Mac/Photos/IMG_0030\ \(1\).JPG
/Volumes/My Passport for Mac/Photos/IMG_0030 (1).JPG
The first command shows one of the problem files. Second command shows a similar file that has no issues. Nothing apparent problems to me from this test.
I also copied the problem file along with the non-problem file with the similar filename (1) to my desktop. When I begin any search string, the problem file disappears. If I completely rename it including extension, it disappears. If I make a copy and change it's name, neither show up. It seems as though there is some attribute of this file, all copies, and a bunch of others in my photo database, that is causing some kind of issue. I've taken a look at both file's info and there appears to be no differences, including permissions. Appears to be more of a file system/finder problem. I may try a different community.
Thanks again. -
Unable to restore aperture library using time machine
Aperture's UI was being barely responsive earlier today, and when I deleted a photo, it ended up actually deleting an entire album.
So I close Aperture and go to my last Time Machine backup to restore my Aperture library. The restore is going perfectly normally, but it gets about halfway through and stops. It throws up a "You do not have permission to do that" notice.
I've tried doing this numerous ways, including an actual "Restore" via Time Machine and also simply pulling the Aperture library off the Time Machine HDD via Finder. Same result no matter what I do.
Help please! I'm looking at an icon of my Aperture library that has all my photos in it, but I cannot copy it!Thanks, MacDLS. I had checked the permissions under Get Info, but I don't remember an "ignore ownership" option. I'll look for it.
The problem may be a corrupted HDD. After posting my question, I ran Disk Utility, and it was unable to complete a "Repair Disk" on the backup HDD. So I'm assuming there are some corrupted sectors. -

ITunes can't find Aperture Library for iPad sync
I just upgraded from iPhoto '11 to Aperture 3. When trying to sync my iPad, and telling iTunes to now sync photos from Aperture, I get the following message:
"Your Aperture Library could not be found. Open the preferences window in Aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications."
All well and good, but when I go to the preference pane in Aperture, I do not see the referenced option. Under the "Previews" tab (Aperture > Preferences > Previews) I see the options for "Share previews with iLife and iWork" (Always/When quitting Aperture/Never)--is that the preference indication they mean? None of those options results in iTunes being able to see my Aperture library.
Oddly, Aperture can see and import photos on my iPad that are not already in my Library, but claims it cannot send photos in the other direction because the library can't be seen. FrustratingThis is a repost from another thread dealing with what I think is the same issue. It is what ended up working for me:
I have gone through a lot of steps and they all seem to have inched me closer to resolving this issue. My original post may have been cluttered so I'll list the steps I took here. The final step, though very time consuming seems to have corrected most of the problems, though I think I now need to get Aperture to generate new previews for all of my images at a size that the iPad likes (1920x1920).
1. Set Aperture's preference to Always share with iLife applications
2. Set Aperture's preference to generate previews at 1920x1920 or better
3. Repair Permissions via the Aperture Library First Aid function described here (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805). You may want to do one of the more serious Library repairs just to get things organized with the file structure system but "Repair Permissions" seems to have been all I need to do.
4. Go to the top of your image hierarchy and reprocess all of the images with the newest Aperture RAW convertor by control-clicking on Photos and selecting "Reprocess Masters"(if you shoot RAW... and you should shoot RAW). It gives you several options, I chose to preserve all of my edits which will add additional time to the process but is worth it so you don't have to re-edit everything. I selected "All Photos" and "Reprocess Existing Images"
If you have a large library (1TB or more) you are now two days or so into this process.
5. Back up your Vault to save these changes
6. Generate new previews since you changed the size in which Aperture saved the JPEGs it uses to export to Aperture. I believe this is done from the top of the image hierarchy as well by holding down the option key when you right-click on the whole library. But, I am not at this stage yet so I can't be sure about that. -
ITunes cannot find Aperture library
Hi all,
Im trying to sync pics to my iphone 5. I've used Aperture for 5+ years without a problem until now. I got a new imac and since then i am unable to sync pics. See error messages below. I dont see any option in Aperture to share as the error msg states.
I've tried all the aperture db correction steps as well as creating a new library. No luck. Any ideas are appreciated
thx
BrettFrom itunes, when checking off "sync photos from...aperture" msg is:
Your aperture library could not be found. Open the preferences window in aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications.
When i click "ok" to the above msg, get the following:
itunes cannot sync photos to the iphone "bretts iphone" because your sperture library could not be found. Open the preferences window in aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications.

Unable to open Aperture library in Photos
Hi,
I am unable to open my Aperture library in Photos.
In the attempt to get this fixed, I carried out from within Aperture (by pressing alt-cmd during Aperture startup) in 'Photo library first aid' all three options that are offered: Repair permissions, repair database, rebuild database - nothing helped. I also had corrected before some dangling references to pictures that are not managed in the library; there are no offline or unreferenced pictures in the library.
In 'Photos' I am getting a pop-up windows with the message at stage "Preparing library ... 69% completed": "The library could not be opened. Photos has attempted to repair the library xxxx, but is unable to open it."
However, that same library opens fine in Aperture, and also in iPhoto.
What is the problem?
Thanks
WolfgangI talked to apple support. They recommended doing a basic level permissions repair using the following procedure:
The advice is a little outdated, and you just have to run the disk utility program to repair the permissions on your main drive and the drive upon which you store the databases. I have tried the following procedure and have re-run the importation procedure. Just at 1% now - so I hope that it will work this time. If it doesn't, I will report back after talking to a Level 2 person at Photos support.
JF
In the newest versions of OS X, there is an additional Repair Permissions application utility hidden away. This tool is located inside boot Repair Utilities. Here’s how to access it.
Restart OS X and hold down the Command and R keys.
You will boot into the Repair Utilities screen. On top, in the Menu Bar click the Utilities item then select Terminal.
In the Terminal window, type “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and hit Return.
The Password reset utility launches, but you’re not going to reset the password. Instead, click on the icon for your Mac’s hard drive at the top. From the drop-down below it, select the user account where you are having issues.
At the bottom of the window, you’ll see an area labeled ‘Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs’. Click the Reset button there.
The reset process takes a couple of minutes. When it’s done, quit the programs you’ve opened and restart your Mac. Notice that ‘Spotlight’ starts re-indexing immediately.
Great tip, thanks for sending this in Tony R!
Update: This works in OS X 10.7 Lion, and 10.8 Mountain Lion, OS X 10.9 Mavericks, OS X 10.10 Yosemite, and newer. -
Unable to open Aperture Library
I am once again experiencing problems with my Aperture Library which is stored in an external hard disk.
Keep getting an error "1712" and message saying that application can not be opened.
Have tried to repair by holding down the command and option key while double clicking in the library but still no success! :-(Have tried to move my Aperture Library from the other ext drive by dragging it across, but unable to do so. Can you point me at the right direction for this?
What happens when you try? Do you you get an error message "Some items cannot be copied" or similar? Then you new drive is probably not formatted correctly as MacOS Extended (Journaled). Backup any items you moved to the drive and reformat it:

EA2: "Unable to Find Source File" when debugging
Hi,
I was remote debugging and hit a breakpoint in a trigger which I hadn't open.
The "Unable to Find Source File" dialog popped up, saying "Unable to find source file for package $Oracle.Trigger.SCHEMA, filename TRIGGER.pls", with SCHEMA being the current schema and TRIGGER the trigger (which never got saved to file BTW).
Additionally, this was pumped in the console (partial post due to limited buffer in Windows):

at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.run(EventDispatchThread.java:121)Pre-1.5, there were some occasions where the dialog would show, but now it seems it shows whenever the source isn't opened (tried also with a package).
Also pre-1.5, indicating the correct connection to search the source in would put sqldev on the right path again and the source would open correctly, but this doesn't work anymore. Maybe that's because you had to use the second drop-down, and in 1.5 there's only 1, which might be the useless (first) one from pre-1.5.
Besides, judging from the "$Oracle.Trigger.SCHEMA", I'd say sqldev already knows the right schema anyway, and the dialog shouldn't even pop up.
BTW, after opening the source myself, the debugger stepped right in...
Hope you've got enough to go on,
K.
