Unable to format DVD

I'm trying to get DVDSP to write this DVD
All the compiling is successful,
but when the formatting begins the program gets stuck after the steps
"writing ISO 9660 directories
writing ISO 9660 directories
writing UDF 1.02 structures
writing files"
then I get a yellow triangle with no explanation,
and the DVD ejects and I see the message "formatting failed"
Any suggestions?
thanks....roger

Which burner?
What brand blank disc?
What size of the encoded DVD?
+ or - DVD R?

  • Unable to read burned dvd, unable to format dvd, and unable to burn dvd

Unable to read burned dvd, unable to format dvd, and unable to burn dvd with my HP G62-339WM Notebook PCI have been unable to perform the Windows back up for months without using new discs. But even after using new discs Windows backup tells me that the disc that I previously used that it is asking to insert is not formatted. I also have not been able to read any dvds that I previously burned, instead it will sometimes recognize them as blank and they are not.  I also cannot perform a format on new dvd discs nor burn to them. I have been able to read some previously burned discs on another pc but not the discs that were created with Windows backup. I have tried everything. I have uninstalled the device, ran the fix it, tried troubleshooting, checked the registry and could not find the upper and lower filters listed. I am however able to read program software and the autorun pops up. Once in a while the autorun will pop up when a blank disc is inserted but then that is all the further I am able to use it. I don't know what else to do. I really want to be able to at least burn files to back up so that they are not lost forever. Please help!

Fixed it myself - for some reason the La Cie refused to read the media. Had to use another machine to pull the data from the drive, copy it over the network to my iMac and then mount the ISO image.

  • Unable to format a new dvd-r

I have a new imac G5 with superdrive and I am unable to format dvd-r disks. This is the first time I have attempted this. When I insert the disk and go to Disk Utility, I see the dvd drive MATSHITADVD_R UJ-845 but the ERASE button is greyed out. The bottom of the screen says the total capacity is 0 bytes (fyi). I must be doing something wrong. Thanks for your help!

    Todd, welcome to the discussions.
First a DVD-R is one time copy.
If you are trying to burn through the disc utility drag your content you want to burn in the box and then insert the disc, and then click burn.
The erase button will by grey, because you can't erase -R and it isn't necessary to Format a disc.
DVD is DVD. the main difference is in Media, -R +R -RW +RW.
and the content you intend to burn, Audio, Video, Data etc.
    Cheers Don

  • Why does Finder not see files on formatted DVD-RW?

I recently did a drag and drop of more than 90 text and pdf files onto a formatted DVD-RW.  The DVD now shows up as a blank disc.  I swear that I managed to add a couple of files and see them in Finder at least twice.  How do I get back into the files?  Disc was formatted for RW using Disc Utility which still sees the 1.7 GB of data on the disc in Info.  What happened?

    Thanks Lex:
I don't think Invisible will help.  Because I left the DVD-RW open after dragging and dropping files onto it there is no lead-out and the optical drive sees it only as a blank disc.  Somehow I got back into the disk before but since the last OS update 10.8.4 I am unable to get the disc to mount.  Seems I remember Bonjour finding and opening it once.  Nothing since.  Right now I'm leaning toward recreating the archive disc and then closing it as a data disc so I can mount it.  I recall doing this open RW in years past so I could continually add other files until the disc was full.  Protocols must have changed.  Bob Mehaffey

  • Unable to burn dvds

I am unable to burn dvds. I'm attempting to backup my iphoto library. When I drag and drop I get an alias icon on the dvd, it does not copy. When I go ahead and try and burn, the disk is ejected and i get them message, "an error has occured" This is my first attempt at burning a dvd.
    Do I need additional software?

Do you use PLUS or MINUS media?
Take a look at system profiler whether your drive is capable of writing the format you have chosen.

  • New HDD, Unable to format

    Hello, everyone.
I'm a windows dude, and I'm trying to help my girlfriend with replacing her mid 2010 Macbook Pro's HDD. The part where I'm stuck at is that I am trying to format it, or do anything at all with it, and I can't. I've booted from the installation CD/DVD, and when I go to disk utility the new WD HDD is listed, but I am unable to format it, or do anything with it, as all the options are grayed out.
How do I proceed from here?
    Thanks for your time,
    Roderick

    This is the internal HD?
Can we confirm how you booted to the DVD, it's possible you somehow booted into recovery mode which can prevent erasing the entire HD (unlikely, but worth asking).
Please be aware that the top level item in the sidebar is the 'entire disk', any indented items below that are the actual volumes inside that disk's partition table. Erasing entire disks will be impossible if the disk is in use, volumes can normally be unmounted & erased.
Within Disk Utility you may need to create a partition table, depending on how the disk is currently setup - this begs the question – is this a new HD or an existing system?
This page has info on formatting disks…
    http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html
You may want to skip 'step b' in the blue section & go to to the partitioning section to be sure the partition table is a GUID one.
P.S, if the disk is functional & you are reinstalling, the installer may repartition the disk for you, start the install process & see if it appears as a destination. You can quit & go back to Disk Utility if required.

  • Unable to format partition, disk may be damaged

I was experiencing a problem with my Windows XP installation on Bootcamp. The Windows side kept restarting, and I could not find the reason, so I formatted with the Windows XP disc and tried to re-install it, but it didn't work. I forget the exact error as to why. So I went back to the Mac side and re-formatted the partition sing Bootcamp, and now when I try to re-install the Windows XP on the Bootcamp partition, I get the error:
Unable to format partition, disk may be damaged
What can I do? I don't understand, because this disk has worked before and I am on the mac side right now, so the actual disk does not appear to be damaged. What can I do?

Do a full format as it will check for errors and mark bad clusters if it finds any (full format = quick + chkdsk /x ), but only create one OS partition e.g like 30GB or something , this will be plenty enough for the os ,instead of the whole drive . Will save you time .
Wait with partitioning the rest of the drive as an extra partition until the OS is installed using diskmanagement .
Also make sure sata-dma is enabled in bios .

  • I'm unable to burn DVDs on my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

    Hello all,
I'm unable to burn DVDs on my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM running 10.4.8. When I go to burn a DVD I get one of two codes 0X8002006D, 0X80020022, why is that a 3,000 CPU cant burn a DVD. My Mac is total up to date with all software and firmware. I saw in the Discussions that I'm not the first person to have this issue but I don't see an answer from Apple, I'm pretty sure it not the DVDs (Memorex DVD-R 16X) because my ****** pc can burn them and it was a 100 pack that I used about 50 from it that I burn on both Macs and the ****** PC. I also have a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 with 2.5 GB DDR SDRAM running 10.4.8 which is also unable to burn them and it also comes up with the same errors. I have not had this issue until I updated my Macs to 10.4.8, PLEASE HELP.
    Thanks,
    Coons

Yes I can play CDs and DVDs but I was not able to burn a 4.01GB folder, I have since decreased the folder size to 3.75 and was able to burn the DVD. I'm creating another just to double check, my G5 was unable to complete the task and I also gave a shot at a 2.77GB folder and it failed I also gave a 200Mb file a chance but it still did not burn. I was able to burn the same 200MB file on a CD, PLEASE I NEED HELP.

  • Win XP Unable to format hard disk and install

Recently my system has got error about system hive error
    "C:\windows\system32\config\sysem file missing"
So when I tried to reinstall the system the winxp setup says
unable to format my hard drive after I choose C Drive to Quick Format(NTFS) and install option, this note appears
"setup was unable to format drive c:the hard disk may be damaged
make sure the disk is on and properly connected to the computer .If the disk is a SCSI disk, make sure your SCSI devices are properly terminated.See your computer or SCSI adapter documentation for more info"
Thinking that the hard disk(Seagate Barracuda 160GB SATA) might have corrupted I used Seagate seatools to check for error and the test failed. So I replaced the hard disk with brand new WD 160GB SATA hard disk and started installing the winxp. Again I'm facing the same problem. Even I checked with the new connection port.
I'm using AMD Sempron Processor. MSI K9MM-V Motherboard. dynet 512MB RAM.
As the problem is existing even with the new hard disk I think there is no problem with the hard disk or cable. the problem must be something else.
Please help me find the problem and rectify it.
(My hard disk is SATA and No-RAID, No-SCSI, BIOS detects my hard disk and I'm able to create partitions but unable to format and install WinXP)
I've used the same hard disk on another system with MSI Mother Board but it's working fine. Windows XP installs without any problem. I've replaced the hard disk in which the Win XP already exists(Win XP installed on another system with same configuration MSI K9MM-V Mobo, AMD Sempron Processor, 512MB RAM) But it hangs the system and when I restart the system it says,
"Windows Could Not start because the following file is missing or currupt:
    \Windows\System32\Config\System
You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."
I've tried this some 10-15 times every now and then this problem is popping up.
So I think this is not the problem with Hard Disk. It must be the problem with Mother Board. So please help me resolve this issue.

    Good luck!
But please remember what you wrote: "BIOS detects my hard disk and I'm able to create partitions but unable to format and install WinXP",
and what Bas wrote about listing your system components.
Have a minimised system when you install Windows.
A cloned copy of Windows can do this, for example one that a back-up program made.

  • I have restored my iPod classic and everything has been wiped off, now when I connect it to the laptop, iTunes doesn't recognise it and windows won't format it, an error message comes up "unable to format"

I have restored my iPod classic and everything has been wiped off, now when I connect it to the laptop, iTunes doesn't recognise it and windows won't format it, an error message comes up "unable to format". Can someone please help me sort this problem, it's so frustrating!!!!!!

It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

  • Portege R100: 4GB SD card runs very slow - unable to format

Laptop working fine, no issues when using 1GB SD card. When 4GB SD card inserted PC runs very slow. Eventually I am able to run Toshiba SD Memory Card Format software (latest download version). It doesn't seem to recognise 4GB card. Unable to format. When tried later with 1GB card everything works well.
Has anyone been able to get a 4GB SD card working ?
I am not sure whether the laptop software needs a patch, or if 4GB card is not fully compatible with SD card standards, though it was bought from reputable supplier.
    Graham

    Hi
I think its nothing wrong with the software but the SD card is simply not 100% compatible.
In the last time the SD card sizes increase rapidly.
I think the card reader and the software were not designed to handle such big SD card like this one.
How about buying an external SD card reader?
Such devices are not very expensive and I think the newest generation should be able to handle also the 4GB SD cards.

  • Can the dvd player support PAL formatted dvds?

    Hi,
I'm moving from the States to France, and I'm wondering of the dvd drive supports PAL formatted dvds. If not, is there an easy, user-friendly way to convert from PAL to NTSC?
    Thanks!

The entertainment industry mafia does not allow commercial DVDs to be "region free". However, a so called "Region 0" DVD can play anywhere, as is the case for most music DVDs. Playing it will not force a region change on the drive. More info on this controversial issue can be [found here|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVDregioncodes]
Note also that [the VLC player|http://www.videolan.org> can let you play most, if not all, DVD's directly on your Mac regardless of the region and without causing region changes. It also lets you play video/audio files in a great variety of formats.

  • Will MacBookPro play Reion2 PAL formatted DVDs?

Will MacBookPro play Reion2 PAL formatted DVDs?

Most optical drives in computers are shipped without having set a region code.  Here in the US, you are generally only allowed to change that region code 5 times, so if you have set it to Region 1 (US) and you want to change it to a new Region to plan the PAL discs, then you will have 3 changes left, so make sure that you keep this in mind because once you make that last change, you will be stuck in whatever region you select...
