Unable to get files from one computer to another... Help!

I have files on my iPod that have been from purchases a while ago that cannot be transferred through my purchase history. What I am trying to do is transfer the files from my iPod, to my new laptop, without erasing the files on the iPod. I have already transferred all the purchases it allowed me to, but I do not know how to transfer the other files... Including videos.

For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over.  Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over?  I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another.  Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.

I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

help! I recently upgraded my iphone to the latest IOS but my GPS seems to have a problem... I am unable to get directions from one point to another ... how do I solve this problem?

If using the built-in Maps app, directions are not available everywhere. Read here:

If that's your problem, download the Google Maps app.

  • Transfer iweb files from one computer to another

Does anyone know how to transfer iweb files from one computer to another?

Change the name of the file to Domain-2.sites2 and try to copy it to the Desktop on the new Mac.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible in Lion or Mt. Lion enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Optionsmenu to bring the this window:

  • How do I get songs from one computer to another?

I had found it once on apple support, but I'm having trouble finding it again. Can someone tell me how you get your songs from one computer to another? I'm consolidating all the songs from my wife's laptop on to mine so we can share the same library, but I don't know how to get her songs on my computer, and as a result, my iTunes.

Go to the itunes folder and copy all of the songs on to an external hard drive.  Then copy them from the hard drive to the other computer
You could also use home sharing which will send the songs over your wireless.

  • Can i drag files from one computer to another

can i drag files from one computer to another

You can, if you want to transfer files between macs I advies to use AirDrop(wi-fi needs to be enabled). Use shift+command+R, this will take you to your AirDrop in finder. Do this on both computers and you should see the user of the mac where you want to transfer files to.
If the seconds computer is a Windows, you can alway use a USB Drive, External Drive, through Dropbox(install dropbox on both computers and download the files that you need on the second computer) and if the file is small even mail.

  • Importing iWeb files from one computer to another

I have created a new website on my laptop and have my other sites on my desktop and want to transfer the site on my laptop to my desktop. I don't see where we can import files from one computer's files to another computer's files. Is there a way to do this?

    Mark:
You can copy the domain.sites2 file from the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on your laptop to the Desktop of your desktop Mac, rename it to something like "site name.sites2", and put it in the iWeb folder with your other domain.sites2 file.
If you want to merge the sites in the two domain files into one new domain file you can do so with iWebSites.

  • Getting songs from one computer to another

I bought an album a few weeks ago (first time) and I just bought a new laptop. How can I get these files from my old computer to my new one? I thought if I make the new computer authorized, I would have access to these files, but cannot. Please help. I have spent too many hours already reading stuff on this page and have hit a dead end every time. Also, if you answer with something, I may have tried it already, so please be prepared for a follow-up question. Thank you very much.

Well...you physically need to copy them from one computer to the other. You can do this by putting the files on a thumb drive for the transfer, burning them to a disc or via a firewire cable (Google Target Disk Mode for info on using the firewire cable to do this).
You'll also need to authorize the second computer in order to play the purchased content.

  • Transfering raw files from one computer to another after LightRoom selection

    Hello,
I'm trying out lightroom and love it so far. One quick question. If my assistant makes a Collection for me to work on later, how can I get the RAW files from that collection to work them on a different computer. I looked at the export option but it's only JPGs or DNF, and I want the RAW files. Can she export the RAW files for me? How?
    Thank you in advance

Thanks for your info. I'm a bit confused.
Don, if she exports the XMP sidecards I still need to have all the original files on my machine, and then filter accordingly correct? I only want to bring to my machine the Good Files. I don't want to waste time with the bad ones.
What do mean by letting her access both?
Harrison, are you saying to export the whole collection as DNG files and burn it onto a CD or something so that I can bring it into my computer? I'm not sure what you mean by letting my assistant "import them into the library on her computer" did you mean "my" computer?
Also right now I use bridge and I sort pictures by date created (multiple cameras) and then rename them with a prefix starting with 001. Can I do this in LightRoom.
Thanks again for all your help.

  • Moving Mail files from One Computer to Another

I had to swap out my wife's laptop while her primary machine was in the shop. Now that the primary is fixed, I need to move all her files back to it. But I am having a heckuva time.
Using Mail's "Import Mailboxes" function, the relevant Mail folders (in the Users/Library folder of the secondary computer) display the red "minus" sign, which means the primary computer doesn't have permission to use them.
However, when I go to the secondary, open Get Info on those folders and give "Everyone" Read & Write access... it does not solve the problem.
    What gives?
Same sort of thing happens when I just try to drag the folders over.
Primary computer is an iBook G4 running OSX 10.5. Secondary computer (from which I am trying to get the files) is an iBook G3 running 10.4

    Man, what a hassle.
First... the account on each computer has the same username AND short name. Yet, when "Read & Write" is entered in the Get Info box for all of the involved folders, I still can't access them from the G4.
One thing I tried was to duplicate the Mail Folder and the plist to a separate partition on the hard drive... figuring I could just move them over. At first this did not work because I still was denied access.
THEN, I connected (via share) to the G3 with a different account name (mine, not my wife's). Note that I was still logged in to the G4 with her name... but when I clicked on the "connect" button to access, the G3, I logged in with my name.
Suddenly, all those duped folders on the partition were accessible. So I duped them over to the G4 in the appropriate places.
At first I got a message saying Mail could not start because it keeps info on where it stores things in the MAIL folder, but that folder was inaccessible to me. It told me to change the permissions in Get Info. This I did, and then everything appeared as it should.
So... I got it done.... but I still want to know why Wife Account on one computer could not access things in the identical Wife Account on the other computer.

  • Moving DBF Files from one computer to another

Hi, I was looking for some help with an issue I have come across. I had SQL Developer on my Desktop with 13 different tables and up to 6 months worth of data. Yesterday when starting the desktop I got the dreaded read/write error message and the compute is not starting up now.
I have now managed to take the hard drive out and I have managed to get into the files as an external drive on my laptop. What I am looking to do is to hopefully transfer the database files from the external drive to my laptop.
I have installed SQL Developer and also installed OracleXE112 on the laptop and I have located dbf files on the external drive but when I overwrite the same files on my laptop I get a listener error. What is the best way to get all my tables back? If somebody could please advise, would really appreciate it some help.
    Thanks in advance.

Hemant, my old drive (k drive now) has around 21 gb of data within the following area:
    K:\oraclexe\app\oracle\oradata\XE
    with the files
    control.dbf
    sysaux.dbf
    system.dbf
    temp.dbf
    undotbs1.dbf
    users.dbf
So I thought I could copy these files and replace the same files I have on my c drive, but its not as simple as that lol.
I have from cmd, connected to rman on the k drive but when I try and connect to the target database I get the following error:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
I dont no if its reading the tnsname.ora from the c drive or the one from the k drive...

  • Changing iTunes and files from one computer to another

Recently, I sent all of the files that I had in iTunes through my wireless network to my upstairs computer. Then I deleted the files that I had downstairs. I didnt realize that it didnt send my filesharing files, like my Ares music. So I just re-downloaded the songs that I did not get from the file sending, into my current iTunes. When I tried to sync my iPod this morning with my new computer, it would say that it was updating on the iPod and iTunes, but nothing would happen. I thought it maybe was because I dont have the exact songs that I have on my iPod now, and maybe iTunes cant remove songs from the iPod? Anyone know what could be wrong? I cant figure out how to get my songs from my new iTunes onto my iPod that has never been synced on this computer. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Transfering Files from one computer to another over the internet using ftp

I am not sure if this is the right section to post this question but i wanted to know if it was possible to use the mac ftp file sharing to transfer a file from a friends computer to mine. He is not on my network we were hoping to transfer the file over the internet the file is quite larger about 2gb. Can any one help me in telling me a way that i could do this thanks.

Enable FTP in Preferences on the target machine.
You will need the IP address...
You can find it by going here
    http://whatismyip.com/
This may be a problem if the target machine is behind a router.
If all goes well... Go to Connect to Server.. and enter
    ftp://ipaddress
    OR
If you want to send a large file then you can check this out...
