Unable to get Windows 7 partition to connect to the internet.

Hey all, I have come here in my last ditch effort of desperation.
I purchased a new 21.5' iMac yesterday and have been trying all day to get Win7 installed via bootcamp. The drive is partitioned, I can early boot in and out of Windows. However, I am unable to connect to the internet.
I used my Snow Leopard CD while in windows and got the "Unsupported 64" error message. But was able to go open/drivers/apple/BootCamp64 then Troubleshoot, and launched it that way. Which it then installed. I then have done the same and manually installed any driver that it would allow me to (broadcom, intel..etc)
Since then I can't find any way to connect to the internet either via ethernet or wireless. I downloaded both BootCamp 3.1 and 3.2 onto a USB Drive and installed both on the Windows side, still no progress. I have gone through the control panel and tried to manually install the "Intel Ethernet Drivers" and "Broadcom" drivers from the Snow Leopard disc. Still no luck there, says nothing can be found. The Bluetooth drivers are installed fine, but it is the Ethernet drivers that for some reason will not allow me to connect to the internet in any way.
Where do I go from here? I called Apple Care and they pretty much said "We dont do Windows, good luck!" Any help would be greatly appreciated.
(Running on new 2011 21.5' iMac. OS X Snow Leopard and the partition is Windows 7 64...if you are curious about more specs, I can get them for you.)

Try this, even if you have to uninstall Boot Camp, what can it hurt seeing you are sort of dry docked now anyway:
Troubleshoot compatibility mode works best when the entire installer directory is copied to windows folder or flash memory and then run. Maybe it modifies or writes some changes to the .msi installer's properties so that they ALL run and install properly. Which did not happen when you installed the 3.0 set to begin with.
Your OEM DVD that came with new iMac is the best source of drivers. Not from an older or retail DVD Mac OS X.
Windows on Mac is not 100% seemless, and as you found, not 100% supported - getting devices insalled and enabled which is what those Apple drivers should do, isn't and not having internet access does get asked and posted. Fine if the drivers did their work. "Not found" means you didn't get a good install to begin with which enables devices and chipsets.
If your Windows install lacks internet, you can't find and update.
Some have used their first install more as a trial run through test and had better success 2nd time.
Unfortunate that not all or latest changes to Boot Camp Support aren't showing or listed in its support page.
http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
And the KB "recent changes" is hard to wade through and lost in all the consumer device articles.

    Hi Kevin,
You might need to check with your internet settings and disable firewall (if any).
Also, please refer the following KB doc link and check if the given troubleshooting steps could help resolving the issue:

Have yu tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Restore the iPod via iTunes,  First from backup and if problems persist, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Getting clamshell iBook to connect to the internet with BaseStation

    Hey all!
I'm trying to get my iBook Clamshell to connect to the internet. I have FiOS and have connected the BaseStation via Ethernet to the LAN port. I have tried to configure the BaseStation both wireless and wired, but the AirPort Utility couldn't find it either time. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
    Sarah
P.S. Its the Snow (dual Ethernet port) BaseStation.

"Finding" a Base Station for the first time with wireless is difficult.
Make it less difficult by connecting via Ethernet cable (in the second port) to configure, then switch to wireless.
    OS9 Internet setup:
Ideally, you would be hooking up by plugging the Ethernet cable into one port on a multi-port Wireless+Wired Router. If there are no cabling issues, the "connected" light should come on at the Router.
The next step is to get a valid IP Address from the Router. When the Mac "wakes up" it self-assigns an Address like 169.254.xxx.yyy and stops there. To force it to Broadcast a request for a Router to assign it an Address in the same range as all the other active IP Addresses, you need to force some Internet Activity.

Assuming that since you posted on the OS 9 forum, you are indeed using OS 9, this whole scenario can be monitored using the OS 9 TCP/IP Control Panel.

Open the TCP/IP Control Panel and check to make sure that the built-in Ethernet port is selected and that it is configured to get an Address using DHCP. All other fields can be left blank. You MUST close the Control Panel and save changes before anything will take effect.

Then force some Internet Activity, by opening a browser window and entering a URL, or setting the Network Time, or checking Software Update.

Then re-open the TCP/IP Control Panel and see what IP Address has been assigned.

case1) you have an IP Address in the range of all other IP Addresses on your local Network, differing only in the last digits. You are good to go.

case2) you have a "self-assigned" Ethernet Address in the range 169.254.xxx.yyy. You have not been able to talk to the Router, so you should suspect cabling problems or port problems.

case3) you have Address 0.0.0.0. You have not caused any Internet activity or your software is messed up.

Remember that you must close the Control Panel for any changes to take effect.

  • I can't get my TC to connect to the Internet

I just bought a new time capsule to back up my macs, well I can't get it to connect to the internet to send out wireless internet signal. Both my networks appear, 1. "actiontec" which is my qwest gt701-wg wireless internet signal I am using right now. 2. Jordan's wifi network also appears which is obviously coming from the TC but it is sending no internet. I got the green light to turn on by hitting ignore on two problems that are keeping it from sending internet. It says it can't connect to the internet and I should cycle the router which I have tried and it also says my PPPoE password I believe is wrong which I have wrote on paper that I got from quest. HELP please

+I tried the option to integrate the time capsule to join the existing wireless network using the bridge mode. But is it correct that I cannot use the ethernet port to connect devices with the internet?+
When the Time Capsule is configured to "join a wireless network", the ethernet ports on the device are not enabled. In other words, when the Time Capsule is configured to "join a wireless network", it performs no routing functions at all. It is simply a wireless backup device.
+Do I have to establish a WDS? How wold I do this??? OR is there another way to solve my problem.+
Very few products from other manufacturers are compatible with Apple's WDS arrangement. I couldn't find any compatibility information regarding your router, so suspect that it is not compatible with the Time Capsule for this purpose.
If you are able to do so, connect an ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on your existing router to the WAN port on the Time Capsule and configure it to act as a bridge, (Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge mode)). This would enable the ethernet ports on the Time Capsule and even allow you to create another wireless network with the Time Capsule if you need that feature.
If it's not possible to run the ethernet cable, you might want to take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by using the AC wiring in your home to transmit the ethernet signal from your current router to the Time Capsule location.

  • Can't get airport extreme to connect to the internet?

My sister in law just purchased an airport extreme for her windows pc and when we connect the ethernet from the modem to the airport, the amber light flashes, indicating that it has no connection to the internet. We have rebooted both the airport and the modem, what do we do now?

Download the setup manual for your AEB here:
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#airport
    Follow the setup instructions.
Flashing light could also mean that a firmware upgrade is available for your AEB.

  • Keep getting "You are not connected to the Internet"

Hi, been scouring the discussion pages for an answer & so far nothing suggested has worked for me...
I have a MacBook running OS X 10.6.8 and all of a sudden I can't get Internet from my BT HomeHub2. It's worked fine for the best part of 2 years, woke up this morning and although AirPort is connected I get the "Safari can't connect to "www.******.co.uk because your computer isn't connected to the Internet." whenever I try to load any website.
From other discussions I've tried the following to no avail...
    Restart HomeHub & MacBook
Remove AirPort from Network preferences & re-add
    Delete 'SystemPreferences' folder from Finder/Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences & re-start
Perform a System Update for the entire MacBook --- can't do as no Internet connection!!
I know the actual Internet 'supply' from BT is working fine as I'm currently writing this on my iPad2, connected to the HomeHub and can view pages in Safari (my iPhone 4S & partner's iPhone 4 have no issue either)
If its any help, on my Network setting page, where AirPort says connected & a green light, it says I'm connected to my BTHomeHub2-**** with an IP address 192.***.*.**

    1. Power cycle your wireless router and modem.
    2. Renew your DHCP lease (for that matter make sure configure using IPV4 is set to DHCP).  This is found in system preferences, network, advanced.
    3. Create a test location.  Instead of automatic, choose edit location.  Create a test location, then apply.
    4. Try your computer out on a different network (mcdonalds, starbucks, or an apple retail store).  If you computer connects through airport there, you know your computer is fine and the issue is with your ISP or your router.
btw what type of router do you have?  and what type of encryption do you have on it?  a lot of old 3rd party routers with WEP encryption do not like to work with apple computers.

  • I just upgraded to Snow Leopard. Why do I get "you are not connected to the internet" when I hit software updates?

I am trying to upgrade the OS from 10.6.3 and, following Apple's instructions, I hit Software Update and get the message "Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem. Software Update can’t connect to the update server. Make sure you’re connected to the Internet, and then try again." I am connected, so what is the problem?

For a starting place restart your router and modem with the mac asleep.

  • Windows 10 Pro connection to the internet

I upgraded yesterday to Windows 10 Pro and have had issues with internet connectivity. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge work fine (even though if I run Chrome update it tells me that I am not connected to the internet). Many software that needs to connect to the internet to validate ownership can no longer connect. Spent a while with a Windows rep on a chat and he thought it was a driver issue, but when he transferred me to a technician the wait time was too long..... Has anyone any ideas ? Programs like Norton Utilities, Quicken, Steam cannot connect to the internet.

Hello , I understand that your desktop computer is experiencing issues connecting to your network, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter! You can check for any applicable drivers for your system by checking Windows Updates, or periodically checking the Software and Drivers page for updated Windows 10 drivers. I hope this helps! Best Regards

  • I CANT GET MY MAC TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET

I just bought a Mac book pro and am having trouble getting it to connect to the internet

Linc Davis may be right. However, how are you trying to connect? wirelessly or via Ethernet?  Usually most Mac book pro's are not setup beforehand to connect to the Internet via your modem or router, or whatever you have. Check with your ISP for your settings, or see if your macbook pro is setup for Wifi (Apple-->Prefs-->network Pane) and have it try and find a wireless network of some kind. Failing that, try and set up your own wireless network, and do what Mr. Davis suggested too

  • Can no longer get my laptop to connect to the internet

    Hi,
I recently moved my router and dsl modem after reconnecting everything my laptop no longer can acquire internet access. I have network magic on both my desktop and my wired laptop. I tried resetting the modem reseting the router. nothing seems to work.
I have network magic version 5.5.9195.0-Pure0
    Using Windstream DSL
The modem is a Speedstream 4200 Adsl Modem version a12
The router is a Belkin f4d7230-4 version 7000
The problem is present in both wired and wireless configuration.
The desktop is using Windows XP SP 3, the laptop is using Windows 7 64 bit professional
I am using ZoneAlarm Extreme Security.
I am able to connect the desktop directly to the DSL modem (bypassing the router) and have connection but when I try to connect the laptop, no internet access is available.
    I am lost!!! Any suggestions??

    Hi...
Here is one item you can check... If I am following how your home network is setup...
Usually when this happens you have to clone your mac-address to the appliance. This can be done using the administration console on your Belkin router.
First, attach your laptop or desktop directly to the DSL and check your connection.
Then after you have tested your internet connection ok directly attached to the DSL router you reconnect your Belkin router and open your network connection to the web interface. (check your ip address and gateway once attached to the Belkin and see what the gateway address is - this is the ip you need to use to get to the Belkin web interface) Once attached to the web inerface on the Belkin find the "Clone Mac Address" wizard within the advanced administration settings. Then once you clone your mac address using the wizard you should be reconnected to your network like it was originally and your setup should work again...
    Hope this makes sense...
    Good luck...
    H.
    Best Regards;

  • I have windows 7, perfect connection to the internet, but it takes forever for firefox to load pages, sits and thinks for minutes before loading. what can i do?

i have windows 7, the internet connection is perfect, i use other computers with no problem loading pages. With this pages take forever to load, worse then if i had dialup. I think internet explorer is the same, but i don't use it and it's very out of date. I tried a system restore, it worked for a day then back to the same thing. Pages take minutes to load, any page. some time out. i don't know what to do next, i've cleared history, cache, cleaned the computer up not sure where the problem is or what it is.

  • I can't get my laptop to connect to the internet through my Ellipsis Jetpack.

My laptop will connect to the jetpack but with limited access. It will connect to my mom's computer and my phone. I have windows 8.1 and she has windows vista.

The usual thing is to delete the existing Jetpack profile on the Windows laptop, and then reestablish a wireless connection to the laptop where you will have to reenter the Wi-Fi Password.
If you’re still having trouble, Verizon Wireless Customer Service (800) 922-0204, exists to help you connect your laptop to your Jetpack.
