Unable to hear caller during telephone conversation

Can anyone help please. I have just upgraded from 3G to iphone 4 today. All appeared fine, activation and sync worked OK, but when I make or receive calls the other caller is inaudible. If the other caller actually shouts I can just hear a very faint sound. If I turn the speakerphone on I can hear them, but not by normal means at my ear. The other caller can hear me normally. All other sounds on my phone are working fine and volume on full. Could this be a defective phone? Has anyone else experienced this? I presume there a different speaker for the phone ear part.
David

I have now sorted the problem myself, but helpful for others to report. The protective film that comes with the phone (on the front) does not have a vent for the earpiece speaker (unlike the protective films you buy to stop scratches), when I removed this I can hear properly. now feel silly, but hope this helps other dummies.

    Hi, Laura.
There are some troubleshooting steps that we can process prior to opting for a repair.  If you do have a protective film on your device make sure that is removed and test to see if the behavior persists.  Below, I have attached an article that goes over some basic troubleshooting steps.  After all steps are processed and the issue persists, we can service your unit at your local Apple Retail Store.  You can schedule an appointment buy clicking this link http://www.apple.com/retail/.

  • Unable to hear caller's voice in my iPhone 4.

I am unable to hear caller's voice unless my iPhone is in the speaker mode or connected to headset. I have done resets multiple times and also tried restore option from iTunes. Nothing helped. Any ideas to resolve this?

  • No sounds, unable to hear anything during calls

2 weeks ago my phone stopped making sounds , and I couldn't hear anything during calls Only if I used speakerphone. I sent my phone away to get fixed and received it back a Week later having been 'fixed' with a note saying the problem was due to a corrupt file , I don't download any ringtones which it said could have caused it. I only use it for normal Internet, emails, facebook, bbm etc. 2 weeks on and its happened again although This time it won't even work on speakerphone ! I am really annoyed about this and can't Bear to be without a phone again if I send it away to get fixed . Has anyone else had this problem ? And is it possible to get the phone replaced , its still under warrenty. Thanks to anyone Able to help me

If the original problem was due to a corrupted file, I would suggest upgrading the os before replacing the unit.

Saying things such as my voice is cracking up or stops working all together even though I can hear them clearly also the use of voice controlls etc is fine and it works. Even with headphones people still are unable to hear me talking and I am out of warrenty.
Would anyone be able to help me with this problem?
    Thanks.

  • Unable to hear caller

When i receive a call i am unable to hear the caller so have to put them on loudspeaker to do so. My iphone 5 was bought as a gift so i am unsure if it is still under warranty, is there anyway to find out?

You can check your warranty status by filling in your serial number here:

  • Temporarily can't hear caller during a call, but they CAN hear me.

During a call I temporarily can't hear the caller but they CAN hear me. The sound on my end is completely dead. After 20-30 seconds the sound usually comes back. My AT&T bars are all filled up so it's not because I'm in a bad cell or coverage area. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm calling someone on their home or land line or on their cell, or if I'm calling from inside my home or when I'm out.
I called tech support a couple times and their last suggestion was that the cover I have might be interferring with the sensors in the phone somehow. The speakers are all uncovered though. I have the iSkin for the iPhone, which I really like.
I have updated my iPhone software to 2.1 and I've completely restored my phone back to the original manufacturer's settings but so far it hasn't helped. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and if you think the case may be the cause of the problem.
I have an appointment to bring my iPhone in to an Apple Store but thought I'd post this before going.
Any thoughts or recommendations would be great.
    Thank you.

I had the same problem and it was the thin film skin I had on the screen. There are sensors in the black area of the screen by the speaker which are affected by the plastic cover. I dropped the phone about a foot and shattered the screen the first week and decided the loss of the sensor was better than paying apple another $300 for a rebuilt phone.

  • TS3406 I am unable to hear caller on my Iphone 6 unless it is on speaker. any ideas on correcting the issue

When making a call I cannot hear the other party unless I have my speaker on. Any idea on how to get phone to work without using the speaker to take private calls.

    Hello sirwin1999,
For issues of not being able to hear from the receiver on your iPhone 6, then check out the article below. It will have you check the connections making sure that Bluetooth is not on as well as clearing out anything near the receiver itself.

  • Unable to hear caller voice on Z10 after upgrade to OS 10.3.1.1565

    Dear Community,
I used BB Z10 from Sep last year (Sep.2014) and it was a good phone.
But recently, my phone automatically upgrade to newest OS number 10.3.1.1565.
I think it is ok with the upgrade.
But there is a critical issue happened. I still can make a call to other ppl but they can hear me but I can't hear anything from them. But if I open the speaker or use earphone, I can hear easily.
Does someone meet the same issue with me? And how to fix this? Do I need to bring it to BlackBerry service for checking?
Oh, 1 more thing, I tried to downgrade to lower OS version (10.2.x), I still got same issue.
Thanks all and hope to receive your idea soon.
    Regards,
    Hung Tran.

Are you still dealing with this?

  • Unable to hear caller and send voice across

    Dear Team:
Just got a Z10; i am having a strange issue and could not find something similar on the forum
When i call, the receiver hears my call coming in; however i cannt hear the call going through. Similarly when someone calls me, the screen shows the caller but there is no ringtone and when i take the call, cannoyt hear the party
Only way to solve is to switch off and reboot which takes forever; this is really frustrating
I was about to migrate to Windows8 or iPhone from my earlier BB but stayed back due to Z10
I now have this issue; can someone please help solve this for me please

this is not a carrier issue. the caller at the other end will hear you. you wont hear the phone ring or any notifications
it is bloody frustrating and all you can do is reboot and the BB OS takes forever to start over
it is indeed a huge flaw...are you in asia or lesewhere
let us get the dev ctee to take notice to fix this asap; it is a decent device but this is unacceptable
    thanx

    Hi all,
There seem to be a number of you with this issue, have any of you called your carriers to report the issue? It is possible that you have defective hardware, or that there is a bug that needs to be fixed. If it is hardware you'll want that swapped out as soon as you can so you don't end up with any warranty issues!
This forum is a user to user forum, community helping community, not an official support channel. The process to receive official support from Blackberry is to contact your carrier (they are the first contact centre) and if they cannot resolve the issue then you will be upped to Blackberry support (this is Level 2 support and onwards.)
If the carrier can't help you and they don't initiate a transfer to Blackberry, you should ask them to transfer you there. Some carrier agents are a little foggy on the process for some reason, so if at first you don't succeed... try again and another agent will transfer you through.
Unfortunately complaining here probably won't solve your issue...

  • I am unable to add a call to make a conference during a conversation from my iphone 4s

I am unable to add a second call to make a conference  during a conversation from my iphone 4s with ios 5.1.1. The option to add a call is not accessible (dim) on my phone whereas the same is accessible on my second phone. Both phones have the same carrier which allows conferencing.

My apology for the typo.  The plus sign "+" was supposed to be in the quotes in the second sentence.

  • IPhone 4 upgrade to iOS 7.1, cannot hear voice during phone call

I recently updated to 7.1 and suddenly I cannot hear voice during the phone call. I can still hear voice using earphone. Has anyone experiencing the same thing? Need help. Thanks.

I have the same problem with my iphone4 32g.
After my phone was updated to ios7, people cannot hear my voice in a telephone conversation (regardless of who makes the call); however, they can hear my voice perfectly in a facetime or skype session.
I managed to record my voice using the iphone so the problem may not have to do with the phone's hardware (mic or debris in the earphone jack). I highly suspect it is due to ios7, but I cannot rollback to ios6 to prove my hypothesis.
I have performed factory reset but the problem still persists. So now I have a an iphone that can't be used to make a phone call, and this is frustrating.
I used to have high regards for the apple brand. Not anymore.
