Unable to iMessage someone

In the past I tried to iMessage my sister using her email address, but this failed as she hadn't actually set up that address for iMessages on her iPhone. In fact, she still hasn't activated iMessage on her iPhone, but she has recently bought an iPad mini and that address is set up for iMessages (I checked that for myself in her device settings). Weird thing is, when I try to reach her on that address using either my iPod touch or my Mac, it says that address isn't registered for iMessages. What could be going wrong?

Turn iMessage off and on again on both devices. If that doesn't work make sure you are setup for iMessage.

Nope, other that what ever charges you already pay for WiFi or 3G data service.

  • HT4623 Trying to iMessage someone from Australia to UK will not send message to iPhone number why as my contacts has the country of origin for each contact??

Why can't I iMessage someone in the UK from Australia using their iPhone number! my contacts has country of origin but it won't deliver the message?

Nops, no Jailbreak. And I can't even really find people with tha same issue over the web. I'm starting to think that a fresh install might be the only way to solve this. Which ***** (and at the same time might be related to the problem), since I've been restoring my iPhone data since my 3GS. I'll keep pooking for a solution to avoid a fresh install, though. Not ready to lose my entire sms/imessage history and my games progress over this. Heh

  • TS2755 unable to iMessage instead of texting to one number

My wife recently had her phone stolen, and ever since she got her new one, I am unable to initiate conversations with her via iMessage.  Any time I try to do so, my phone will only send a text message to her.  She can iMessage me, and I can reply to that with iMessages, but I cannot start a chat with her that isn't text-only on my end.
When I type in her name, the phone number shows up as green (for text only) even though she has an iPhone 5s.  She can (and does) send me iMessages on her own just fine, so I'm not sure what's going on.
I've already reset my network settings, logged out and back in of iMessage and (in case it's related as one website thought it was) Facetime.
Any help would be appreciated!  Thanks!

  • Unable to iMessage Between iPhones

I have an iPhone 4S.  My wife has an iPhone 5.  When I try to send her an iMessage, the background on the message is green, not light blue - in other words, we are texting, not iMessaging.  iMessaging has been enabled on both phones.  Both phones are connected to 3G at the time.  Why won't iMessageing work between the two phones?  I am generally (but not always) able to iMessage with other iPhones.  Why between my wife's and my iPhones?
I did notice this - when I go into Settings/Messages/Send&Receive, in the field under "You can be reached by iMessage at:", I see my iPhone number in there, ut it is grayed out.  I don't seem to be able to activate it, i.e., I don't know how to "un-gray" it.  Might that have something to do with the problem?

OK - here's what my Send/Receive looks like now:
Apple ID (My Apple ID is correctly stated here)
Under "You can be reqched by iMessage at," I have . . .
My cell phone number (checked and grayed out)
My wife's cell phone number (checked and active - not grayed out)
My wife's email address (checked and active - not grayed out)
My email address (checked and active - not grayed out)
Still in this section, it then says: "Add Another Email"
The next section is: "Start new conversations from:"  Under that is . . .
My cell phone number (not checked and active - not grayed out)
My wife's cell phone number (checked and active - not grayed out)
My wife's email address (not checked and active - not grayed out)
My email address (not checked and active - not grayed out)
It gives me the option of deleting the two email addresses in the "You can be reached by iMessage at" section.  I am unable to do anything with any of the items listed in the "Start new conversations from" section.
What should I do and, more importantly, how should I do it?  I'm afraid I am going to need a step-by-step on this if you can - I simply cannot make this sucker work.

  • IMessage problems. (Unable to iMessage one particular person..?)

Hello, I am new to the apple community and didn't know where to post this. However this question is regarding my iPhone 4S which i recently purchased. Basically me and a specific friend (which has asked for any of her details to not be given out) are having problems iMessaging (She has iPhone 4 whic she purchased a day before me. We have no problem iMessaging anyone else with an iPhone however to each other it does not work. On her phone the bubbles are still green despite the fact that we both have wifi on and iMessage on yet on mine it will be blue and say delivered but she doesnt recieve anything? However what I have noticed is that on her phone she has no other options such as the 'Send Read Receipts', 'Sent as SMS' or the 'Receive at' which from what ive tested with on my other iPhone friends do have so at first i thought that would be the problem but it can't be because like I said she has no difficulty messaging anyone else with an iPhone. (Same with FaceTime which i figured wouldnt work because they work the same way..I think?) I've tried everything and somehow it still doesnt work? Someone please help as its really starting to bug me because it keeps making me think that there is a fault in my phone. Thanks Kind Regards.

Hi randers4, thankyou for your reply but thing is she does have it on because she iMessages a friend daily and it works for them and same with me just not each other. When I have it on also it will say its delivered but she will not receive anything but her SMS still come through. If i didnt have wifi on it would fall back on SMS but seen as i do it says delivered yet she still doesnt receive it. And we have both updated to iOS 5.1. So we can't figure out who the one with the problem is. She says it is mine however I have a feeling it is hers but I don't know hence why I came here. Thanks Kind Regards.

  • Is it possible to imessage someone in China?

My friend is in China and has an Iphone 4. I have an Iphone 4s. For some reason iMessage doesn't seem to work when she isn't connected to wifi. Is iMessage available there while using regular cellular data service?

If you can send her a text message (not an iMessage), then ask her what she sees in the top left of her screen.

  • HT5622 Why is it that everytime I imessage someone my email comes up instead of my phone number?

I have try putting my phone number as apple ID but i cant or dont know how i dont want my email to come up i want my phone number to show up when ever i imessage someone

The cell phone number is registered along with the Apple ID email address when activating iMessage on an iPhone.
Settings > Messages > Send and Receive > Start New Conversations From > select your phone number.

  • If i iMessage someone and then block their number before they 'read' it, when i unblock them will it tell me what time/date they read the message?

I imessaged a person and it said delivered, i then blocked the number and a couple of weeks later when i had unblocked the number, the message still had 'delivered' and no read receipt. This person always has read receipt. Did this happen because i blocked them? or why?

problem, i think, for now... resolved.
i deleted the preference file for bluetooth, restarted, first attempt didnt work, though it did show up a keyboard with a long number as its name, used auto generated passkey here, didnt work. 2nd attempt, i then saw the name AV's keyboard, decided to use my own passkey '1234', worked!
bluetooth is strange, there must 5 methods for connecting these **** keyboards!

  • Unable to block someone I do not know

In my privacy settings, I have checked the button to only allow people to contact me who are on my contacts list.  In spite of this I regularly receive messages from people I do know know, but am usually able to block them.  I have had a message from someone today though, and for some reason I do not have a button anywhere to block them.  Is anyone able to help me resolve this please?

I eventually found the answer for myself via a thread on a different matter - right clicked the person's name and blocked them that way.
I'd still like to know how it is possible firstly for them to contact me when my privacy settings are such that they should not be able to, and secondly, how it is possible for them to manipulate the system so that no 'block' button appears, whereas it normally would be there.

  • Unable to iMessage from iPad Wifi to mobile phone?

The problem is one single mobile phone number. I already iMessage to three other non-iPhone mobiles, but when I enter this specific one, the "send" is greyed out, and I get the message "this number is not registered with iMessage ".
Any tricks or help, please?. Thanks in advance.

By "to three other non-iPhone mobiles" I assume you mean three other iOS devices which means they are set up correctly as is your iPad.  So the question is "Has iMessage been properly set up on the iPhone that fails to work?".  For example, can you send a text message to your iPad from the iPhone? How about from the iPhone to the "other non-iPhone mobiles"?

  • Unable to iMessage 1 contact

I'm able to send iMessages to just about everyone. However I have 1 friend who will not receive them from me to his phone number. He was at Apple earlier today and verified his settings. He is able to send iMessages from his number to other people but not to me.
What's strange is last week when I noticed the issue I found his contact listed his number as 'mobile' and iPhone was not in the list. I ended up deleting his contact and creating a new one which then let me assign his number to an iPhone. As soon as I open Messages and put his phone number it it defaults to Text Message, iMessage will not go through.
I've verified his settings and mine. I've deleted his contact again along with our message history. As soon as I entered his phone number it again defaulted to Text Message.
This is only happening between the two of us. We're each able to send iMessages (from our phone numbers) to other Apple users.
    Any ideas?

    Check your user names.
    Check your passwords.
These are common prroblems with iCloud/iTunes.
