Unable to import a vid clip of 267 MB from iphoto (6.0.6) to imovie (6.0.3)

I am unable to import a vid clip of 267 MB from iphoto (6.0.6) to imovie (6.0.3). I tried changing the format from MPEG 1 to MPEG 4 via streamclip 1.8 but when trying to import a window comes up saying "Error during import - the file could not be imported: unknown error". It says this no matter what format I try. (MPEG 1,2,4 and compressing it to a zip. file. (20KBs, 44KBs, 115MBs etc.). Imovie "HELP" says that it should import at least the clip in the MPEG 4 format (115.9 MBs). Any thoughts on this appreciated ---- Toroya

is your converted file playable with Quicktime Player?
rename your converted file in Finder .. avoid any 'special' characters as  ☜ ©, blanks, 'signs' | \ …= dots ] ... just letters...
.. just to mention: iM is a DV-editor.. preferrable, you should work with 'dv-streams' = best quality, no loss, have a look in Streamclip's Export Options ... esp. when working with allready highly compressed material as mpegs ....

  • Why i can't import a clip of AVCHD format from iPhoto originaly from my Sony NEX-5N

why i can't import a clip of AVCHD format from iPhoto originaly from my Sony NEX-5N?

Hi there. For anyone searching, here are the results of my research and corresponding advice back to Sony...
Thanks, your comments looked correct but did not solve my problem. You may be interested to know after much testing and research, I was able to ascertain that some of the camera's AVCHD settings iMovie cannot see at all (only some, which made it even harder to figure out!). Plus, if you have recorded movie clips in more than one format to the memory card (MP4 or any one of the AVCHD's), iMovie cannot see any of the AVCHD's.
Bottom line - forgo the benefits of AVCHD on the Sony NEX-5N and just use MP4 until Apple makes it easier.

Recently, I have been unable to import all of the "songs" or discs from multi-CD operas in itunes to my ipod classic or Seagate network hard drive. Only 1 or 2 discs or 20 or so "songs" out of a  total of 40 - 80 import despite plenty of available space in both devices. When I check itunes, each opera disc with all of the "songs" are listed. Very frustrating! Any suggestions?

  • Copy more than one clip at a time from iPhoto to iMovie?? Please help!

Is it possible to copy more than one clip at a time from iPhoto to iMovie? I can't find a way to select/copy more than one.

OK you can leave them in iPhoto and access them from the iMovie Event for iPhoto.
If you prefer to move them to a regular iMovie Event, you can do the following.
    1) right-click on one of the iPhoto clips and select "Reveal in Finder". This will open a finder window showing the clips in the iPhoto Library.
    2) In a different Finder window, create a folder to hold your event in iMovie. If you are using an internal drive, create a folder using your desired Event Name under the Movies/iMovie Events Folder.
Note: If you are using an external drive, create a Folder called iMovie Events at the top level of the external drive. Then create the (Event Name) folder under this. The external drive must be formatted as MacOS Extended (journaled) for this to work.
    3) Select all the clips in the iPhoto finder window that are part of this event and Move them to the Movies/iMovie Event/(Event Name) folder.
    4) After you have done this for all the Events, open iMovie and let it generate thumbnails. This may take a while.

  • Unable to create "filename" when exporting to SD disk from iphoto 7.1

I recently upgraded from iphoto 4 to 7. I did do because when I tried to export to a SD disk, I kept getting the unable to create message on various photos. I did the upgrade to 7 and I am still seeing this error message. Has anyone else run across this one?

    George:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try exporting to a folder on the Desktop and then copy the folder to the SD memory card. Also make sure there are no unusual/unsupported characters in the file names, i.e. anything other than 0-9, a-z, _, -. The format of the memory cards, PC based, does not accept those unusual characters. If there are a lot of special characters in the file names, you can batch change the title of the files with the Photos->Batch Change menu option. Then select the option during export to use the title as the new file name.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Importing only one copy of each photo from iPhoto?

    Hi all,
I'm using Aperture 1.5.2, and I'm trying to import my pictures from iPhoto. However, for each image that I've edited with iPhoto I get a two-photo stack containing the original and the edited version. Is there any way I can import my photos so that in this case, only the edited version is imported?
Thanks in advance for any pointers!

That's a good solution. However, I have recently been through all my copies of images that I imported from iPhoto. I found that in some cases I was not happy with the result of the edited version, and others the edited version was fine, so I did not consistantly remove the same version of each image.

  • Importing a few photos at a time from iPhoto

I have been using iPhoto and have almost filled my laptop's memory.  I want to transfer my photos (because I have many shot in RAW) to Adobe Photshop Elements 10.  How do I impost one event (from iPhoto) at a time to Photshop?  I was unable to transfer the entire library.

Hi Barbara, Thanks for answering.  Yes, eventually, but when I tried, it canceled the attempt -not enough space.....I have already copied my entire iPhoto library to  external drives.  However (and I probably don't completely understand it) as I've been told, iPhoto only shows & works w/ jPegs, not Raw. Many, but not all of my photos are in RAW and I'd like to move up to the next level (why I purchased Photoshop).  I have done a great deal of labeling, keywording and editing my photos in iPhoto and I don't want to have to start all over again.  Am I correct in assuming that when I transfer photos from iPhoto to Photoshop, that much of the added info (editing, labelling, keywording, etc. is transfered along w/ the photo data?

When We are looking at the struture of idoc through IDOCSYN table it is showing updated structure in SAP R/3 system but import to SAP XI is failing.
Can you suggest some way to tackle this kind of problem.

  • How do I export a video clip to iMovie from iPhoto?

My video clips and photos were imported from my iPhone 5 to iPhoto on my macbook pro.  Using iMovie, I can import the photos from iPhoto but am unable to import the video clips from iPhoto into iMovie.
Is there a way that this can be done?

How are you trying to import from iPhoto to iMovie? The movies in your iPhoto Library should appear in iMovie in the Event Library in the section for your system drive as event "iPhoto Videos".
Here the videos from your iPhoto library should be shown, that you last opened in iPhoto; for example with my version of iMovie (9.0.8) the event library looks like this:
Don't you see the videos there? What is your iPhoto version and iMovie version?
As a workaround to import to iMovie you can always select the video in iPhoto and use "File > Reveal in Finder" to show the movie file and then import to iMovie using the Finder. Caution: When importing from the iPhoto library using the Finder, be sure to import to iMovie using the option "Copy files", not "Move files". Otherwise they will vanish from your iPhoto library.

  • Trouble Importing from iPhoto

When I try to import a short video clip from iPhoto to iMovie (something I've done successfully many times) I get an "unknown error" message that says the clip cannot be imported. Any ideas?

One idea is to import the video clip without going through the iPhoto interface. Use iMovie's import command -- if that doesn't work, then perhaps the video file is .avi or something that iMovie has trouble converting.

  • How do you import selected albums from iphoto?

I'm new to Aperture, and want to start by importing only selected (ie my best) albums from iPhoto.
I've tried File > Import > Show iPhoto Browser, and can highlight the album I want to import. But then what do I do?

In my test, they came in managed. IMHO it's not a good idea to reference files inside the iPhoto library. I think it's a disaster waiting to happen.

  • Importing RAW images from iPhoto to Elements 8

I just successfully downloaded Elements 8 (the free trial version). I have an iMac, and until now have used iPhoto for all of my photo file storage and editing needs.
I need to import some of my original RAW files from iPhoto into Elements 8. How is this accomplished?
I got the images I wanted into Elements 8 by selecting all the images I wanted to import, then dragging and dropping. The result? The images all got imported into Elements 8, but they are showing up there as jPegs.
The images were originally brought into iPhoto as RAW files, and I never converted them into jPegs, so they should still be RAW files in iPhoto. Why, then, do they show up in Elements 8 as jPegs? And how do I import directly from iPhoto into Elements 8 and keep the images being imported as RAW files?
Any insights/help would be greatly appreciated.

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • Importing edited photos from iPhoto

What settings do I need to change in order to import only my edited versions of photos from iPhoto into aperture 3?

    thanks for the reply,
I certainly understand your point of course.
Well, I thought since they were already in iPhotos original library, why have them saved twice. I do understand that they would be easily retrieved and used if in Aperture for sure.  However, I guess when Aperture imports them or iPhoto exports them to Aperture, they are sent with edited version along with the original. I then figured out how to use the stacks in Aperture. I was going to make a slideshow and noticed that when I pressed the slide show that it was adding both the edited and orignal version to the slide show, so all I had to do was to close all Stacks and it worked as I wanted.
But I quess I would like to know if there are now two versions of the originals taking up space on my HDs, one in iPhotos library and one in Aperture. I have 16,000 photos and want to save space on my hard drives. So the next question would be what happens to the orignal library in iPhoto when you export your iPhoto library into Apertures library?
    Thanks,
    Beatlejoose
